[00:00:00] Have you ever covered a carpet stain with a rug?

[00:00:02] Ignored a leaky faucet?

[00:00:04] Pretended your half-painted living room is supposed to look like that?

[00:00:06] Well, you're not alone.

[00:00:08] We've all got unfinished home projects.

[00:00:10] But there's an easier way.

[00:00:12] When you download Thumbtack, it's easier to care for your home from top to bottom.

[00:00:15] Pull out your phone and adjust a few taps.

[00:00:17] You can search, chat, and book highly rated pros right in your neighborhood.

[00:00:21] Plus, you'll know what to tackle next.

[00:00:23] Because Thumbtack is the app that shows you what to do, who to hire, and when.

[00:00:27] So say goodbye to all those unfinished home projects.

[00:00:29] And say hello to caring for your home the easier way.

[00:00:32] Download Thumbtack and start a project today.

[00:00:35] We all have that friend who wakes up early to go get everyone McDonald's breakfast.

[00:00:39] But the rest of us sleep in.

[00:00:41] This is your sign to thank them.

[00:00:44] And if you're that friend, this is us saying, thank you.

[00:00:48] Just a friendly reminder that right now,

[00:00:51] get any size iced coffee before 11 a.m. for just 99 cents.

[00:00:55] And a satisfying sausage McMuffin with egg is just $2.79.

[00:00:59] Price and participation may vary.

[00:01:01] Cannot be combined with any other offer or combo meal.

[00:01:19] This is Shelby and Quinn backstage again at the Grand Ole Opry.

[00:01:22] But this time with Tyler Halverson, also known as Tyler Halverhoo.

[00:01:26] That's it.

[00:01:28] Can you explain your Instagram name?

[00:01:30] I don't know who is he?

[00:01:31] What is he doing?

[00:01:32] What is he up to?

[00:01:33] I think that's where the Instagram name comes from.

[00:01:35] Brilliant. Love it.

[00:01:36] We love it.

[00:01:37] You have had such a slow rollout of music.

[00:01:40] You don't technically have a whole project get out just yet.

[00:01:44] But it's coming.

[00:01:45] Yes.

[00:01:46] Is there a reason for the strategy of just putting out single after single?

[00:01:50] I think a lot of it was like we were in a slow roll with trying to get things

[00:01:55] navigated with Atlantic Records and figuring out stuff with management

[00:01:59] and just like kind of, I don't know, just no hurry with things.

[00:02:02] They'll all have their time when it is time, I think.

[00:02:05] Yeah.

[00:02:06] Well, and speaking of when it is time,

[00:02:08] we have to ask about your EP, Western of Marijuana, part one.

[00:02:11] Okay.

[00:02:12] How would you describe that EP to someone who maybe hasn't heard

[00:02:17] of Tyler Halberson before?

[00:02:18] Yeah.

[00:02:19] I think it's a nice little take on some older style of country and songwriting,

[00:02:23] but with the tip of the hat to what's coming next to you

[00:02:26] and what's new and what's going on.

[00:02:28] And I'm assuming part one is going to have all your singles out so far

[00:02:31] and probably a couple bit more.

[00:02:33] Yeah. So there's going to be two more coming out on Friday.

[00:02:35] We've got Good Graces and one called Fly Over Me.

[00:02:37] And yeah, I'm pretty excited for those to come out.

[00:02:39] Wrote one with Colton Benner and the other one with Asher Monroe

[00:02:42] and John Decious.

[00:02:44] And I might be spacing one more.

[00:02:47] This is only part one though, so when can we expect part two?

[00:02:50] So the rest of it will be coming out,

[00:02:52] I believe we're going to start slow rolling a couple more singles out

[00:02:55] like in June or July.

[00:02:57] So yeah, we've got a whole mess of music planned for this year

[00:03:00] just coming out.

[00:03:01] Exciting.

[00:03:02] It's really exciting to see all the stuff that you're doing right now,

[00:03:04] but I kind of wanted to ask you,

[00:03:06] was there one moment early on in your career where you maybe had something

[00:03:10] that just said, okay, I'm going to make music for a living,

[00:03:13] that's what I want to do?

[00:03:14] Yeah, I think after I graduated college,

[00:03:16] like in between in the summertime I'd always go back home and play

[00:03:20] and then I just played during breaks and stuff like that.

[00:03:22] But then after school I think there's a little reality of like

[00:03:26] this is what I'm good at.

[00:03:28] This is the gift God gave me and I think I have to run on it.

[00:03:31] There's nothing else I'd rather do.

[00:03:33] And you're from South Dakota.

[00:03:34] Yes, ma'am.

[00:03:35] What is it like going from your small town with very few people in it

[00:03:40] to playing the Grand Ole Opry, to living in Nashville?

[00:03:43] I think coming from, we are a long ways from South Dakota tonight.

[00:03:48] That's all I know and I think it's just a good tip of the hat

[00:03:52] from the man upstairs saying we're doing the right thing,

[00:03:54] we're going in the right direction.

[00:03:56] And do you credit a lot,

[00:03:57] do you feel like you have small town roots

[00:03:59] that you kind of credit a lot of the stuff that you do towards?

[00:04:02] Yeah, I think so.

[00:04:03] I mean, I don't know if it's like, it's just like that's all I know

[00:04:07] and that's all I've known or all I've been around.

[00:04:09] So I think the, I can't really escape that.

[00:04:11] I can't fake and try to be something else.

[00:04:13] I'm just small town South Dakota.

[00:04:15] And who would you say or what would you say is your biggest influence musically

[00:04:20] if you had to pin it down to something?

[00:04:22] Musically, I think there's a whole lot of songwriters that I look up to.

[00:04:27] Hayes Carl and my good buddy Keith Gaddis.

[00:04:31] And just having like the right people in my corner,

[00:04:34] I'm very blessed with the community that I have in town here

[00:04:36] and all my friends and just stumbling into the right writing rooms

[00:04:39] and meeting the right people.

[00:04:41] And yeah, it's a whole lot of luck and a little bit of work.

[00:04:44] And yeah, it's all of it.

[00:04:45] And then I also have to ask stylistically

[00:04:48] and I'm talking your choice of clothing, hat, sunglasses.

[00:04:51] I feel like it's a great question because just for people

[00:04:54] that are listening with audio,

[00:04:55] do you want to describe the jacket that you're wearing?

[00:04:58] Man, I got the full on fancy Canadian tuxedo

[00:05:01] with the boots that used to slither, nice pythons down here.

[00:05:04] And it's rhinestone doubt, but it's got guns and cattle skulls

[00:05:07] and everything around it.

[00:05:08] I think I don't want to look and sound like anybody else.

[00:05:11] I just want to be me.

[00:05:12] So you're your own stylistic influence.

[00:05:15] Well, I got my friend Miss Kennedy Tracy who helps us out a lot too.

[00:05:18] But she sees the vision.

[00:05:21] Going off of the influence question,

[00:05:22] is there anyone from South Dakota that you even can look up to really?

[00:05:26] I don't know if there's any country influences there.

[00:05:28] There's not a whole lot, honestly.

[00:05:30] I mean, it's kind of a, I don't know,

[00:05:32] you're big time in a small town in South Dakota, I think.

[00:05:35] And there hasn't been a whole lot outside of that.

[00:05:38] We got some good rodeo riders like Casey Tibbs and people like that.

[00:05:42] But outside of that, there's not a whole lot.

[00:05:44] Making your own lane?

[00:05:45] Trying to.

[00:05:46] Tonight's all about you, but I'm not going to,

[00:05:49] I mean, if you look at your Instagram,

[00:05:51] you're not shy about your dating life by any means.

[00:05:54] Is there anything you want to share about that?

[00:05:56] I'm super excited that Miss Carter wanted to sing a song with me tonight.

[00:06:00] That's all I'm excited about.

[00:06:02] All right.

[00:06:03] Yeah.

[00:06:04] Do you have to ask,

[00:06:05] kind of playing back off of the Western and Marijuana EP,

[00:06:10] Dream Blunt Rotation?

[00:06:12] Would you be willing to disclose who might make up that group?

[00:06:16] Shit, I think that it has to be,

[00:06:20] I mean, can they be alive or dead?

[00:06:22] Exactly.

[00:06:23] Anybody?

[00:06:24] I would love to smoke one with Mac Miller.

[00:06:26] I would love to sit down with Willie, because why not?

[00:06:30] I mean, George Jones would be,

[00:06:32] I don't know if he did, but I'd love to try.

[00:06:35] And then, I don't know, who else?

[00:06:38] I'd say it might be Jelly Roll.

[00:06:41] It might be.

[00:06:42] And Jelly Roll's here tonight.

[00:06:43] That's what I'm saying.

[00:06:44] Look, I'm here to get popcorn and watch Jelly Roll.

[00:06:47] That's really what I'm trying to do.

[00:06:49] Nice.

[00:06:50] And your first song, I think it was the first song,

[00:06:52] one of the first songs you put out,

[00:06:54] definitely my first favorite by you was Your Bar Now.

[00:06:56] Yeah.

[00:06:57] And it was the first song I heard that named Nashville places,

[00:07:00] like the Legion, and it made me excited to move here and visit all those.

[00:07:04] Now where are your bars around Nashville?

[00:07:08] Neighbors, Sylvan Park.

[00:07:09] Any day, any time, I will go there.

[00:07:12] Don't have to twist my arm.

[00:07:14] Yeah.

[00:07:15] You don't have to show us, but I know you have a bunch of tattoos.

[00:07:19] Can you give us a tattoo tour of how many, where they are,

[00:07:22] what they are?

[00:07:23] Well, I got a new one today here.

[00:07:25] I'll show you this thing.

[00:07:26] I'm pretty excited about this.

[00:07:28] This is good for the video podcast.

[00:07:30] This is the new one today.

[00:07:31] I was pretty excited.

[00:07:32] Oh wow.

[00:07:33] Yeah, I'm supposed to get another one over here on this side.

[00:07:35] The same thing that's appearing each other?

[00:07:36] Yeah, gunslinging.

[00:07:37] That's cool.

[00:07:38] I'm kind of excited about it.

[00:07:40] It's new.

[00:07:41] My favorite, I think, is when I show them this New Mexico,

[00:07:46] I always say it's for all six burritos.

[00:07:49] The gas station in West Texas and New Mexico out that way,

[00:07:52] because they're always there for you.

[00:07:54] You think Taco Bell is there for you, but All-Sup is really there for you.

[00:07:57] Is that an official sponsor?

[00:07:58] It should be.

[00:07:59] We're working on it.

[00:08:01] You're working out if it's not.

[00:08:02] I put a lot of beef bean burritos in my body.

[00:08:04] They should sponsor me.

[00:08:05] Well, we're going to do some rapid fire questions,

[00:08:07] if that's okay with you.

[00:08:08] So you can keep the answers relatively short, however you want to do it.

[00:08:11] First things up, is something that's still on your bucket list that you want to do?

[00:08:15] On the bucket list.

[00:08:18] I would like to sing at the NFR.

[00:08:20] That is very high on the bucket list.

[00:08:22] I think that's very reasonable.

[00:08:23] I hope so.

[00:08:25] And are you a NASCAR fan by chance?

[00:08:27] No, I don't...

[00:08:28] Would you really...

[00:08:29] That wasn't a South Dakota thing.

[00:08:31] I don't know.

[00:08:32] I think NASCAR is pretty southern.

[00:08:33] That's fair.

[00:08:34] We did dirt track.

[00:08:35] There was a bunch of dirt tracks.

[00:08:36] It'd be sprint cars and stock cars and stuff like that.

[00:08:39] But yeah, not quite NASCAR.

[00:08:41] Favorite 90s country song?

[00:08:43] Favorite 90s country song?

[00:08:45] I'm going to have to say...

[00:08:48] It's going to have to be some Papa Love Mamas from Garth Brooks.

[00:08:52] Garth.

[00:08:54] What about your favorite sad country song?

[00:08:57] Tell Lori I love her.

[00:08:59] Keith Whitley, just rip my fucking heart out, please.

[00:09:02] What are you doing when you're not playing music?

[00:09:05] Oh shit, probably thinking about playing music.

[00:09:07] I really don't have any hobbies.

[00:09:09] I just like to write, run and go play shows.

[00:09:14] Yeah, you're giving it your all.

[00:09:15] What is your go-to drink order?

[00:09:17] I'm guessing what's in your hand.

[00:09:18] It's a Coors Light every time.

[00:09:20] Every time.

[00:09:21] Or Coors Banquet.

[00:09:23] Next question.

[00:09:24] What song of yours are you most proud of?

[00:09:26] What's the one that you feel like is the best that you've put out?

[00:09:29] I do think that Tiffany Blue is probably one of the better ones that we've wrote.

[00:09:33] And just the way it came out, I'm very, very proud of that one.

[00:09:37] That's Quinn's favorite.

[00:09:38] It is my favorite.

[00:09:39] I like it.

[00:09:40] We're just talking about it.

[00:09:41] How do you feel about Beyoncé and country music?

[00:09:44] I just had somebody ask me this in Rolling Stone the other day.

[00:09:47] And I think that it's great in the sense of Nashville's been trying to make pop country for the last five, ten years.

[00:09:53] And now we actually have pop stars making a country album.

[00:09:56] So I think it's awesome.

[00:09:57] And this one's not written down, but I'm looking forward to the Post Malone country album.

[00:10:01] Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

[00:10:02] I've been waiting for that since he did that Brad Paisley cover and all the Dwight stuff.

[00:10:06] Yeah, that's what I want.

[00:10:08] A lot of teasers from Post Malone.

[00:10:09] I'm personally just ready for him to announce it.

[00:10:11] Just drop it.

[00:10:12] Exactly.

[00:10:13] Guilty pleasure song that you have.

[00:10:15] Doesn't have to be country if you have a house.

[00:10:17] Bop It and Seals.

[00:10:20] What is your favorite fast food when you're on the road?

[00:10:23] Oh, shit.

[00:10:24] I think it's a tie.

[00:10:25] Whataburger is always there, always great.

[00:10:28] And then In-N-Out.

[00:10:30] I know they are like a rivalry, but sometimes I like to compare.

[00:10:33] I'm from California, so In-N-Out all the way.

[00:10:35] I know.

[00:10:36] I go back and forth.

[00:10:37] Your hangover cure.

[00:10:38] Marijuana.

[00:10:39] There you go.

[00:10:41] What is your karaoke song?

[00:10:43] Chicks Dig at Chris Kaggle.

[00:10:45] You didn't even have to think about that one.

[00:10:46] That one would have been off the cuff.

[00:10:47] That's awesome.

[00:10:48] And then last one we've got for you, Over Under on Travis Kelcey, Taylor Swift getting engaged by the end of this year, by the end of 2024.

[00:10:55] Oh, hell.

[00:10:56] I mean, I hope they break up.

[00:10:58] Oh.

[00:10:59] Really? Why is that?

[00:11:00] I don't know.

[00:11:01] I think we just need something else to fixate on.

[00:11:04] Maybe.

[00:11:05] I don't know.

[00:11:06] She's selling a lot of Chiefs jerseys, though.

[00:11:07] So I mean, they're doing something.

[00:11:08] I think there's some.

[00:11:09] Do you think there's any sort of like connection NFL, Roger Goodell, Taylor Swift?

[00:11:12] There could be.

[00:11:13] Yeah.

[00:11:14] You're buying that conspiracy.

[00:11:15] Yeah, Goodell, Swift.

[00:11:16] They're going to be part owners now pretty soon.

[00:11:17] Yeah, probably.

[00:11:18] Well, I'm glad we could wrap up the interview with a conspiracy theory possibly.

[00:11:21] Hell yeah.

[00:11:22] But Tyler, thank you so much for the time.

[00:11:23] We really appreciate it.

[00:11:24] Thank you all.

[00:11:25] Congratulations on your Grand Ole Opry debut and we're looking forward to new music this year.

[00:11:28] Me too.

[00:11:29] Thank you all for having me.

[00:11:36] Thank you.
