[00:01:06] This episode of Whiskey Refereff is brought to you by Rebels and Brennegades Festival
[00:01:09] located in beautiful Monterey, California Rebels and Renegades as a country music festival
[00:01:13] that brings together some of the best artists from across the genre including top-notch
[00:01:16] highlighters, turnpike tributors, and whiskey mires along with other great performances
[00:01:20] by Flallin Calvery, Morgan Wayne, Charlie Crockett, and so many more. The festival takes place
[00:01:24] October 6th through the 8th and tickets are on sale right now. For more information
[00:01:28] I'm purchasing tickets go to www.RebelsNrenegadesFest.com.
[00:01:31] All right, we got the boys from Flallin Calvery here. Start out by saying that this episode
[00:01:50] is sponsored by Rebels and Renegades Festival in Monterey, California October 6th through
[00:01:55] the 8th. And you guys will actually be there. It's an incredible lineup. If people haven't
[00:02:00] looked, the lineup every day is incredible. And for you guys when you kind of see the
[00:02:07] artists you know a lot of them, you've probably played some shows with some of them. How pumped
[00:02:11] are you for this festival?
[00:02:12] See this we saw it come across our deaths. Like he said, the names on their turnpike
[00:02:16] tributaries, steel woods, genuine wire.
[00:02:20] And you saw that day.
[00:02:21] Molly Tuttle just a diverse kind of you know span of music for all different kinds of
[00:02:26] listeners in Man-Royne to be a part of it for sure in a band from Lubbock, Texas you
[00:02:31] know what I mean to especially in part of a music festival out there in California like
[00:02:36] it just it just seems a little off the beat path where you wouldn't expect it but you know
[00:02:41] we've had really some great times you know in situations and places like that because
[00:02:46] of that you know so excited.
[00:02:49] Do you have a turn down a lot of festivals? Is that like a thing you said it comes across
[00:02:55] your desk like are you like nah pass pass pass or is it more like hey we're not doing
[00:03:00] anything yeah why not how does that work?
[00:03:03] It used to be I meant that more time in cheek we used to be that way where we went
[00:03:07] by every offer but now like our management team really you know kind of feels all that
[00:03:11] stuff and um definitely work mean it's more like hey man we got some good news you got
[00:03:17] you guys got an offer to play this really dope festival and we're just like like let's
[00:03:21] go do you get in a play with our heroes and stuff and yeah that part never gets old you
[00:03:25] know.
[00:03:26] It feels like festivals in general are just as fun for the artists, the acts, the bands
[00:03:32] just as fun as them for you know people coming through because we get to see other shows
[00:03:37] that we don't normally see.
[00:03:39] We get to hang out with band members from different you know there's just cross contamination
[00:03:44] going on if you all a nation cross pollination.
[00:03:48] If you will so when you hear stuff like that it's just festivals in general are just fun
[00:03:53] and then going out to California where it feels good and then just that whole Americana
[00:03:59] diversity um that's happening out there it's pretty great.
[00:04:03] Yeah we'll have a we'll have like a merged head there for the people that are gone so hopefully
[00:04:08] they can pick up I'm sure you don't need some of our team there guys and have a good time
[00:04:12] hopefully and get you some more some more gear.
[00:04:15] Is that in a crew?
[00:04:16] Yeah I'll just bring that sad country song to make me happy shirt just yes.
[00:04:21] Oh nice.
[00:04:22] I'm not working any.
[00:04:23] I'm not working any.
[00:04:24] Whether it's you or your management whoever if you ever got one more
[00:04:29] stuff we got a lot of we'll have a lot of new hoodies and all this stuff coming out soon
[00:04:33] so we're happy to say you guys anything.
[00:04:35] Shropt out WhiskeyRift.com everybody.
[00:04:38] Um I'm speaking of kind of earlier in the year and some of the stuff you've done uh Luke
[00:04:45] Holmes I think is done a really good job for being as massive he is in the mainstream
[00:04:49] kind of taking acts even he just announced some new ones for his upcoming leg but you guys
[00:04:55] were with him and he Wilson really green Brent Cobb.
[00:04:59] I was almost worked on North American leg of his 2023 World Tour.
[00:05:03] What was that like working with him and that kind of size of those crowds being on the
[00:05:10] road out there with Luke?
[00:05:13] It was uh cheerly amazing and that's learned so much it also went by like this you know
[00:05:20] it's like we started off in Cowboy Stadium on March 25th which for us was like you know
[00:05:25] we could have ended the tour there too that's that's like just getting across up a
[00:05:28] lot.
[00:05:29] Yeah that's amazing.
[00:05:30] I don't feel like a hundred thousand how many people fit in there?
[00:05:33] What the stage I guess you got to kind of remove some maybe but yeah I think that the
[00:05:36] cap was like at 60k or something like that I think the placeholds like 100 or whatever
[00:05:42] but um has that had that many Cowboys fans shut up to Sam's watch?
[00:05:46] I don't know.
[00:05:48] It was everything's every year.
[00:05:50] Everything's every year.
[00:05:51] Every every every year is their year right it's the yeah.
[00:05:55] Great probably did like a hundred thousand there no maybe in my raw.
[00:06:00] She got man I had nice idea.
[00:06:02] Well I think I think he did because he had the circle stage in the middle.
[00:06:06] I don't know.
[00:06:07] Yeah.
[00:06:08] Yeah it's all good.
[00:06:11] But that's for the tour started off and over the course of I mean 17 dates and X amount
[00:06:18] of weeks or whatever but over 17 weekends kind of got to know Luke and their camp you
[00:06:23] know a lot more and the band is really good guys and their whole team and really kind
[00:06:29] of us.
[00:06:30] We try to do our part and we play 25 minutes and just get people excited to see Lanywell
[00:06:34] soon you know what I mean?
[00:06:36] Just kind of get to befriend everybody slowly but surely and just learn from each other
[00:06:42] because everyone's out there doing the same thing and obviously people are further along
[00:06:46] and at different opportunities and stuff.
[00:06:47] And so anytime that we got a moment to hang out with Luke and think of that nature he
[00:06:53] was always very me cool.
[00:06:57] Give you give you a all of this time I mean I mean that there was a couple moments where
[00:07:02] I had a accident to meet my brother or something and I was like hey man this guy's this is
[00:07:08] my brother to be the CPA dude like he encouraged me to like not be a CPA until like do this
[00:07:13] and I'm like in the middle tell him this you know stories just go get him dude and I'm
[00:07:17] like alright.
[00:07:18] I hate to be that guy.
[00:07:19] Yeah and he talked to him for like I mean almost 10 minutes and just he's just that kind
[00:07:26] of guy you know I mean it's a totally grateful that we had the opportunity and you know
[00:07:31] it was a challenge as far as playing it's not we get 25 minutes so you get like 5 or 6
[00:07:37] 5 to 7 songs or something to try to make a splash but like I said our job is to get people
[00:07:43] excited and ready for works coming up next and to show what we do you know so it was truly
[00:07:48] a grand opportunity and all the while we're doing our North American tour as well so
[00:07:54] it's kind of the best of both world men it's been a and here we are in August already
[00:07:58] it's like where did it go you know yeah what's it like crap in a set list for like 25 minutes
[00:08:04] are you mixing it up a lot each night or you kind of just running with your same 5 6 7 songs.
[00:08:11] We changed it up quite a bit almost like we can I mean we had some songs that just seem
[00:08:15] to be good openers and stuff and how we want to close the show but just I mean it's
[00:08:20] it's really challenging man I mean it's like how do you how do you make a lasting impression
[00:08:25] you get I mean it's 25 minutes you know usually but like I said I want to discount that
[00:08:31] you know I mean I feel like we gave it our best and try to be creative and I felt like
[00:08:34] it was good we already knew that you know Luke's Luke's got the heaters too you know
[00:08:38] like it's it's high energy stuff and you know there's half of our set you know is the lonely
[00:08:45] the sad songs the stuff you know easy on the ears heavy on the heart as we say so we kind
[00:08:51] of knew into it just like let's 25 minutes let's let's throw some heaters it's the summer
[00:08:57] people are out there on the drink beer jump around a little bit so we kind of start off
[00:09:01] with that and then just saw everywhere through the country as we were going you know what
[00:09:06] worked you know what didn't in Chicago at soldier field we played a see on three pounds
[00:09:12] Chicago yeah and just just just to give it to the crowd but yeah we take it to your question
[00:09:19] or just yeah how does that what is that works I think it's great for like the highlight
[00:09:25] when he has a bunch of like the artist he picked or who if you're going to cover a song
[00:09:31] like that in a city like Chicago where what's that both used to were we found whiskey
[00:09:35] riffing came from you have to like run it by anybody performing after you like hey
[00:09:42] were were you planning on doing this because we say the cups won a game and you wanted
[00:09:46] to sing go cups go I don't know if you've been a really field ever but if the cup is
[00:09:50] when they take this song call go cups go from back in the day so like you want to do something
[00:09:54] like that but there's a couple artists after you you got to be like hey hey by the way and
[00:09:58] they're like I was going to do it is that ever happened or no I never thought of that
[00:10:02] that's it's been done to us so many times we're like oh shit we got to play we can't
[00:10:06] play country roots and not all the way it is so it's like and then that ephemism
[00:10:11] that's better to ask for forgiveness than permission I guess or it's easier to so it's like
[00:10:15] I mean yeah but also your point I never even considered to ask I didn't either I'm
[00:10:22] nobody else but I'm blanking West we did an article maybe it was like a historical post
[00:10:27] from back in the day but somebody opened to piss off their opener they saying the
[00:10:31] openers George Jones was opening for Buck Owens I believe while back obviously and
[00:10:40] wanted to headline and Buck was like get the hell out of here what do you mean you want
[00:10:45] a headline like I you open up I go on afterwards like that's how it is shut up so George
[00:10:52] was like I'm gonna learn his entire set and I'm gonna go out there and sing every one of his songs
[00:10:57] and that's what he did yeah that was the last time he opened up for Buck Owens
[00:11:04] that is do you that that's a legend and expert legendary story though I believe Tracy Lawrence
[00:11:11] told that story on Justin Moore's podcast I was looking for so shut up Justin Moore's podcast
[00:11:18] oh yeah he's not your body pal so yeah go on learn a Luke's whole set and then just
[00:11:26] well apparently really George Jones regretted it according to this article title of ours but yeah
[00:11:34] yeah I guess you guys got to make sure don't don't pull that I guess but you also opened a few
[00:11:42] shows for for one of the I mean I think a lot of people would put them on the Mount Rushmore
[00:11:48] of country music Willie Nelson did you get the chance to get to know him at all or if not even just
[00:11:55] saying hello like what did that feel like there was your first time meeting Willie I don't know if it
[00:11:59] wasn't at those are first time meeting him we absolutely respected you know their privacy and you
[00:12:06] know his age and wellness and all that stuff and so we were pretty much the rule of thumb was like
[00:12:13] don't don't get near and don't touch him but I guess it worked out because we got to meet him second
[00:12:23] to last show before the tour was over if we can or something and I don't remember him sit I was
[00:12:30] kind of like in shock when it's happening it's like one of those things that could go back and be
[00:12:34] like dang it dude like he you weren't as present as you could have been you know but I was just in shock
[00:12:39] oh towards us and he sticks his hand at us and shakes our hand I don't think he said anything
[00:12:45] but his expression in his face were like like nice to meet you and like thank you for being here
[00:12:51] you know I mean it's like we're like like can this is going on you know like in Oracle or something
[00:12:56] you know just came with some weird dog didn't even say anything and we're just
[00:13:01] that's great for you yeah yeah that truly you know as far as me personal and I'm sure you I'm not
[00:13:10] sure how you feel it's like getting to meet him or even to get to play on the same stage as him
[00:13:15] dude he was walking on and he embodied us to come up and sing every night like something but I
[00:13:21] remember until you know I'm not usual Lord willing it's like it's one of those things I was
[00:13:25] hoping would happen you know in our career at some point and I'm not sure who was uh you know
[00:13:32] reading my diary or whatever anything like that but it became the past man and so yeah
[00:13:38] and God bless Willie D's he's still doing it man his set still dope and he's playing the song
[00:13:43] from the heart and soul and you're remember a like a cool anecdote kind of goes with this the first
[00:13:50] show a second show we did with them was in Dallas, Texas and all of our family and stuff came out
[00:13:56] and stuff and like my my uncles and aunts my feels and Diaz from far west Texas came out and they
[00:14:02] were like I got to have moment with them and they were like we always wondered if uh you whatever
[00:14:08] if Willie would ever sing a duet with you but then like that was something I was always thinking about
[00:14:13] at home and then here we are come watching you and you're on the same stage with them and you're
[00:14:16] singing the bgb's like to the crowd and it's just like it's just like creating those moments that
[00:14:22] you remember forever you know that are really special I think that's what Willie has attached to
[00:14:26] his name like Willie Nelson and family you know it feels like a family thing and I remember crying
[00:14:33] after hearing it we play uh always on my mind just what's he called when it happens to you don't have a
[00:14:40] it was like a response or reaction and I can contain it it was like and well is it due to
[00:14:46] the fact that you started oh yeah he's in the crazy thing is um man he's he's dotted on stage
[00:14:53] he's he's up there he's playing trigger uh his guitar yeah I mean it's it sounds so iconic
[00:15:00] because it's it's plugged in it's got some sort of pickup that gives it a little bit of distortion
[00:15:04] just the hint of it and either way it's it's iconic it sounds fantastic he's over there just
[00:15:10] playing jazzy uh his son Micah accompanies him as well and you know they're playing off back and forth
[00:15:17] and it's it's easily the coolest campfire I've ever been to that's what it felt like like in Dallas
[00:15:23] 20,000 people um but no one's saying a peep everyone's listening uh and it was yeah just
[00:15:31] sitting down like a campfire and it was something I'll never forget either so killing that's
[00:15:38] the kind of artist like different as said way until like I think we had a question from like your
[00:15:42] craziest concert moment from a fan but there's certain names where like if they're playing and people
[00:15:48] are being loud and weird and like it's a certain song it's willy and I was like focused
[00:15:54] I'm like I can't imagine some of the clips we've shared of at concerts where it's like you know
[00:15:58] people are fighting and drunk and this guy gets hit and whatever they're throwing stuff it's like
[00:16:03] with willy I just gotta imagine everybody goes in there and it's just like this aura of like
[00:16:07] all right be on your best behavior I hope that was the case but with you guys in general with
[00:16:12] your with your kind of growing success and everything and these massive shows and your personal shows
[00:16:17] and you had any crazy moments because there was a lot of stuff going on recently about people throwing
[00:16:22] stuff and been in the news um if that's always happened I find it a little weird by the way I'm like
[00:16:28] we've always like seen that people send a stuff and then all of a sudden this year because like
[00:16:32] Taylor Swift got something thrown at her every time you were like so yeah I'm just like so
[00:16:38] but I remember seeing a lot of this that stuff been countryed from from years ago we posted but
[00:16:42] when you guys had any bad where you're like holy shit this is this is rony this is a little
[00:16:48] weren't expecting this or better bad
[00:16:51] but it's really impressive what was an occasion most more recently was uh whenever
[00:16:59] back in 2021 we played at nutty brown amphitheater and off it's no longer there they turned
[00:17:03] it to an hd parking lot but uh it was a historic venue there in Texas and it was like post-COVID
[00:17:10] and stuff and I was like seated kind of show or whatever but yeah people would stand up and you know
[00:17:18] we're feeling it especially during the song you'd play a devil off my back which is kind of angsty
[00:17:22] and stuff and uh there's a part we haven't played it in a while but like we play it and I would just
[00:17:28] diamond the cord and kind of just sit there and that's the band's Q waiting like when are we going
[00:17:33] to come back in but I never I never like sing the part or something I got lost in the sauce if
[00:17:38] they say and I'm just kind of dude we're hanging on this fucking moment and it keeps going and
[00:17:45] no one knows where it's gonna go because they're waiting on me and I think I'm waiting on then
[00:17:49] but then all of a sudden I think people out there in the crowd you didn't know it was going on
[00:17:53] the songs like they're waiting for the the like the course to get out yeah that's what it was
[00:17:57] fiddle solo so like all of a sudden people started fighting there was a fight in the crowd
[00:18:03] during that moment I think and I would attribute part of that fight to towards my fall I guess
[00:18:09] because it went on so long that I guess people were just like give it to me right
[00:18:14] and you're giving me a grip and don't knock out the end so much like the music that is
[00:18:20] prepared it always happens when you're like in a in a venue with too many people and then someone
[00:18:27] is you know getting back to their spot after getting a beer and someone just elbow someone
[00:18:32] and it's late at night and then they elbow harder and you're like hey that was my girl and then
[00:18:36] it just comes back and then boom you have a fight right so it's I feel like with every
[00:18:42] large gathering like that um to a certain extent it's it's gonna happen at one point or another
[00:18:49] especially when it's hot in the summer it's usually rare that it doesn't happen that our show is
[00:18:54] off and you know I mean we're pretty pretty chill pretty tame sing love songs we're all about you
[00:19:00] know love each other all that stuff so it's it is uncommon you know what I mean it's not like a
[00:19:05] go-to flat-land show if you want to get a beer throwing that to your getting to a fist fight but
[00:19:09] I know all these happened dude yeah and just let me go ahead start out that no I just like we've
[00:19:16] shared so many of these as like Sturgels covering uh I'm blanking on it but like a very like
[00:19:21] emotional song at one country years ago and small venue and people started fighting and he
[00:19:25] like stops to treat like how the fuck are you gonna fight when I'm singing this song maybe jump
[00:19:30] on Brian maybe he was covering yeah I don't it was what it was it was it was I think it was a cover
[00:19:35] for sure and it was like you see it you're just like whoa and then your the whole elbow thing that's
[00:19:40] so true like yeah we're pat like past the age where you know you're going to the bars you guys
[00:19:47] are just like the douchey guys walking by and doing the old but I'm looking back at like going
[00:19:52] to Cubs games in Chicago and stuff and people are drunk by off their ass by 11 o'clock
[00:19:58] morning but because the game starts at 120 and you're just like that whole like oh I'm not going
[00:20:04] to move I'm gonna like stiffen up when you're trying to get by my my seats right there then it's like
[00:20:10] and then now with college football starting and uh in the NFL we were already getting some
[00:20:15] there's people in the preseason of football getting in brawl who we posted some articles so it's
[00:20:21] just they say fuck there guys I don't know it doesn't remind me of one story uh from the
[00:20:27] lute tour we're in Edmonton Canada which I've never been there I don't know much about it uh but
[00:20:33] it's very far north I heard there's a lot of like oil or rigors a lot of wilderness people like
[00:20:39] the burly guy yeah their tough man and uh I did see a couple fights I've been to pit right and uh
[00:20:46] and it's so far north that towards the end of Luke set the sun is still up so you can see everything
[00:20:51] and it's like 10 pm and everyone's been on it for a while right and uh I think he's uh he's singing
[00:21:02] long neck ice cold beer long neck ice cold beer no but why and uh and once out of the stadium just like
[00:21:10] cheers during this low part you kind of look over there and someone is uh someone's you know going
[00:21:16] on a knee to uh propose they propose during that song which is hilarious for one uh the people
[00:21:24] fighting in front of me they look they stop fighting and then they look for a second and then they
[00:21:30] stop fighting just because of that certain just like these people are the wall is bro
[00:21:37] people that's a lot of deep north yeah of course we have like but I just feel like there's tough
[00:21:43] towns uh Pittsburgh was another tough town you just a good blue collar town where uh we're sitting
[00:21:48] side on side stage and people are just jumping over just in these side stage and security's taken
[00:21:55] home and uh but I mean it's it's high energy stuff over uh and in Luke's you know set um but yeah
[00:22:02] I feel like there's always gonna be that luckily there's luckily there's you know guys like
[00:22:10] can and if you have security guards instead of kind of just sweeping away it's like I would
[00:22:15] imagine 99.99% of people are not trying to get no flab when they go out there and you know
[00:22:20] yeah yeah like I said boozing for three hours before show starts or however it gets
[00:22:25] the new federal concert and you're getting drunk and you're having a good time you spend money
[00:22:30] and all this stuff maybe you had to get a babysitter whatever you have a kid
[00:22:35] it's like to know that route it's just like crazy to me and maybe I'm just like
[00:22:39] if you're like an old soul now I'm old there's five but I can't pull out
[00:22:42] I'm so I backed out during an Allen Jackson concert once like I didn't even make it to Allen
[00:22:47] it was Chris Young who was there was a middle per Josh turn oh yeah Josh Turner yeah
[00:22:54] and I blacked out in the middle of Josh Turner didn't even see how get to the stage
[00:22:59] and it's just like I don't even know if I've seen Allen's then so it was like yeah it'll probably
[00:23:05] be like the biggest regret about life at some point hey was was was Josh Turner playing long black
[00:23:11] train you just blacked out there and well I'm black out train and it was I mean we were I was like
[00:23:18] 21 or something 22 this would be for it was here if yeah yeah yeah long before that and like
[00:23:24] I don't it's just like you know so it's like what do you you look back on that and what are you
[00:23:27] doing and I imagine there's a lot of people who are kind of me at that age and you know
[00:23:32] 15 years later you're kind of well yeah there's what were you described you know something comes
[00:23:40] to mind of like going to a concert and I used to feel it but there's still sometimes like
[00:23:46] a going to room I had a conversation with our bus driver one time with like I used to go
[00:23:50] into like a restaurant take anything of what we do out of this like oh someone recognized you
[00:23:57] or knows you're anything I don't know if that has any effect on it or where but I just
[00:24:01] I used to like be afraid of like going in social settings at social anxiety and now I just
[00:24:07] I don't know I just see us all as human beings like I think the writing songs are playing on stage
[00:24:11] and realizing that oh people fill these emotions too like we're all the same you know it means like
[00:24:15] I don't have that fear anymore more times than not but I think that they're you know there are some
[00:24:22] social anxiety plates apart both go people out in the crowd you know like oh man like I'm in
[00:24:29] this big thing when really it should feel like we're all together we're all together you know
[00:24:33] there should be no division you know what I mean but those other substances getting away and stuff
[00:24:38] and you kind of lose sight of all that stuff and so instead of happening but I don't know that's one
[00:24:43] thing I want to try to be as frontman on stage like making people feel comfortable hey man have a
[00:24:49] good time don't get don't get your ass kicked or someone don't kick someone else's ass let's just
[00:24:54] let's try to make it through this thing you know without a story like that or whatever but
[00:24:59] all right I don't know that kind of came to mom when you're saying that um if that's it
[00:25:04] I'm talking about it. What is it different from like a private show we were talking a little bit
[00:25:08] before we got on about you guys doing a private show and and Steve's neck of the woods and like
[00:25:12] we've talked with you know a bunch of different artists about private shows here and there like park
[00:25:16] and McCallum and I imagine sometimes it's like weird because people just like are like who's
[00:25:22] what's going on over there there there's like a full band and it's like I don't maybe they're not
[00:25:26] familiar with the music or maybe it's a corporate event where it's like we actually mean Steve wants
[00:25:32] to see whiskey Myers not want to see we went with whiskey Myers to a Miller Miller light like corporate
[00:25:38] event and nobody in the room was like who is everyone in the room was like who is this what's going on
[00:25:44] and we're like guys Cody can and singing a fucking acoustic show shut your mouth and pay attention
[00:25:50] and nobody there was like they just couldn't care less. It has like 25 year old girls at work there
[00:25:54] they're just like talking about their plans for after they leave the office like you could just
[00:25:58] feel it I was like come on. He's like he's singing stone and you're just like come on people
[00:26:04] where's your soul um if you had like what's it like how does that differ obviously you played
[00:26:09] major stadium was played with Willie you know your own massive tours that you guys sell out and then
[00:26:16] how does that kind of like the opposite end of the spectrum. Like like playing and people talking
[00:26:22] like you're saying or like just kind of like not being attuned to what what's going on again. Yeah
[00:26:26] just like the private show when somebody books you at like a you know their own kind of event
[00:26:31] that's a separate thing that's not open to the public but kind of what's that experience like
[00:26:36] sure yeah uh another story comes to mind the guy that made this new record that we're
[00:26:43] released in later this year since the white baker he was telling me that he played an
[00:26:47] event for some mega corporation Microsoft Apple somebody and he he it was a breakfast event
[00:26:53] or something and they didn't play very well to be there and he said same thing no one it's
[00:27:00] he might as well have been invisible or something word no it's less than comfortable and at that
[00:27:05] point yeah it's like you almost like you're in a bad dream or something but it's like he's like hey dude
[00:27:09] I played my songs and sang the best I could and and maybe you don't do the small top thing in
[00:27:15] between maybe you're just like whatever but he's like they still you know paid me to be there so
[00:27:20] I give my best but you're right there is a I I still try to figure out how to do those uh
[00:27:26] private events can't be strange but like like we just played one literally just lost speaking on
[00:27:32] tandem uh for the second time we got it last year it's on this amazing property it's literally a
[00:27:39] homestead the project's called the homestead and really nice people up there that are
[00:27:44] like their dream and they they invited us to come out there and play a show and
[00:27:50] the same thing you're talking about no one knows who we are no one I mean they know who we are but
[00:27:54] everybody else and it's like and you kind of get those insecure feelings do they care whatever
[00:27:59] it's like hey dude they're we're here to deploy our songs into they they asked us to be here so
[00:28:05] like I'm pointing to these people and everyone else I think it's just the matter of like
[00:28:11] trying to put it in peoples and their terms like someone that why should I listen to you guy
[00:28:16] that's you know don't be preached at or is it like hey man this hey guy that's like stirring your
[00:28:21] Cheerios over there during the breakfast gig the song is about uh that feeling or whatever and
[00:28:26] they might be more inclined to listen but uh yeah sometimes those private shows feel like you're on
[00:28:31] a different planet but I just there's something within me being optimistic looking at the glass
[00:28:36] half full of like there's gotta be a way to make this thing feel like a party you know what I mean
[00:28:41] and I don't think it's something we keep trying to scratch the itch or figure out maybe maybe
[00:28:46] we book you for something whiskey rift does one day and then hey pay you better than you've
[00:28:51] been paid for one of those things and then we make sure we bring the energy and it's just
[00:28:59] well yeah because we all like love your music and know you guys versus google or somewhere without
[00:29:05] the show now man that'd be awesome but definitely we've got to be a lot of fun and I mean I better
[00:29:11] just sounds uncomfortable yeah I would be so but everybody has to be jack through the roof like
[00:29:17] everybody's gotta be like ripping shots like okay here they come to guys like let's go let's play
[00:29:22] there's no we're not we're not doing cheerios
[00:29:26] and now do that be a lot fun that there's a concept that kind of comes to mind of like
[00:29:31] that I read I learned about in the book of like either married to your audience or you're dating
[00:29:36] them and in the scenarios but like this is a private if it's flatline cabri sold out show
[00:29:42] we're married to audience man I can go out there and play my kazoo for the first song if I want to
[00:29:46] because people are there to see us but it's like and then you know the dating your audience scenario
[00:29:51] it's like do you walk into someone maybe don't know and give them a big kiss on the cheek or do you
[00:29:55] say hello you know and shake their hand and like I think there's a process in these social you
[00:30:01] know interactions that were all involved in that I think add up to something like hey I
[00:30:06] care that you're here thank you for being here below this is who I am like it's a
[00:30:10] it's a respect thing I guess yeah it's like reading someone else like close down to it how do
[00:30:15] you have fun on a first day you know I guess talking but when it comes to a show I guess only
[00:30:21] one person's really talking you know the yeah or saying anything you know they're listening so
[00:30:27] it's like how do you read the room you know and just kind of dig into your bag of trip
[00:30:32] tricks you know right yeah for me weird for for us to I met did you sit in the back of the classroom
[00:30:40] that couldn't be a good time for you guys that sat in the back of the classroom growing up
[00:30:45] it's pretty ironic how we made it to the probably cloud out so I guess you know this is a humor but
[00:30:52] at the end of the day like we were talking about full circle being kind to another respects
[00:30:55] each other making each other feel welcome and if people receive that and they do and if they don't
[00:31:00] then I've also heard like a 3% of people will never like you no matter what you do so it's like
[00:31:08] there is a greater whole you know a good out there that's put take more of our attention span yeah
[00:31:14] yeah right you mentioned a new album kind of in passing at that last one what do you guys got
[00:31:22] cooking this the rest of the I know a new single coming out secondly tomorrow it'll be it'll be
[00:31:27] out once this podcast goes live so we're looking at a new album like what's what's what's what we
[00:31:34] got going on here yeah we have a new album in the in our back pocket we're gonna put it out later
[00:31:40] this year can't stay exactly just when at the moment because I don't know I should know this but
[00:31:45] I don't but it's gonna be we have three we have obviously you coming out on August 25th and then
[00:31:53] that third single it's gonna drop later in September and then we hope to put out the record sometime
[00:31:58] between now for the years over so um it always this whole everything we're doing man plan shows
[00:32:08] we can get lost in the touring aspect and like who we played with all this stuff and then there's
[00:32:13] the making of the music and getting in the studio and birthing it and all that stuff which is
[00:32:18] it's like the most important part but it also less it's so small and the span of time as far as
[00:32:25] like we were in the studio for two weeks uh in Austin earlier in March and it's like everything
[00:32:32] hinges upon is built upon that but no one ever gets to see it but luckily for you know everyone
[00:32:37] out there's listening to their fans and stuff we had to you know document documentarians are
[00:32:43] going to call them they don't think they they they recorded the whole process and everything all
[00:32:48] of our all of our shenanigans the ups and downs highs and lows just having a good time there wasn't
[00:32:53] any lows but no I can't thank you Vinnie it was it was a great process two weeks of just living
[00:32:59] at the studio um and just steam what these songs could be um not really even overthinking too much
[00:33:06] and that's how music should be I feel like it's uh it was a good time but and like you said something
[00:33:13] in our back pocket and uh kind of you just waiting to wait in the play for everyone yeah man
[00:33:19] awesome what's it like they're over when you're ready yeah yeah we have right man yeah all right for
[00:33:25] sure now uh we have we can give you a pinky something you can do a pinky promise over the phone
[00:33:30] can't share it to anybody but uh you can send you a preview before it comes out for sure oh yeah
[00:33:36] for sure um and then right before we let you go one fan question kind of just go back to kind of
[00:33:41] just uh the uh the drinking stuff because fans always want to know hangover cures do you have a
[00:33:48] ritual pre-show or do you have like a go-to drink and and then if you if you kind of over serve
[00:33:53] yourself so to speak do you guys have a a hangover cure before you guys hit the hit the next show
[00:33:59] I hit the road again so so wait you said first a pre-reach ritual
[00:34:07] they have a ritual or a or a go-to drink for a show and then if if you kind of do it too
[00:34:12] you have a few too many do you have a hangover cure we usually do a shot at Keela or some kind of spirit
[00:34:19] I mean spent to Keela lately uh just before the show not everyone yet it's kind of it's it's
[00:34:26] all right you know it's cleaner and it's kind of a stand-up I guess but uh we uh we do that for
[00:34:32] the show a sale of prayer even before all that stuff starts like our piano player Adam G
[00:34:39] I just discounted he does a lot more than play piano he plays the last step but
[00:34:44] he's using the backlamps breathing dude just yeah 15 minutes whim Hof breathing I would say
[00:34:51] before the show just whim Hof yeah yeah brother just you know getting I got a ice barrel back here
[00:34:58] hi that's dope man I wish they could one of these days maybe we can bring that to you
[00:35:02] out on the road so it's like just your clothes you're wearing this up and you know then what's that
[00:35:10] no I go you bring one of those on the road I'm like you guys are very close you're gonna have
[00:35:14] your whole your whole your whole your whole your whole bus with a spa and a sauna and uh
[00:35:23] yeah dude we'll make sure and let you know the passcode so you can come on
[00:35:29] yeah dude so we like try to raise our uh you know just at least me personally try to breathe
[00:35:35] you know get yourself up to snuff and feel good and then we usually say a little prayer take a shot
[00:35:42] eela uh Jason Yuji says the prayer just pretty much more or less like you know hey let's all be
[00:35:50] we're all there for each other let's all be present on stage let's have a good time and read
[00:35:54] Dylan our guitar player will be like we usually break it out one two three you know whatever it
[00:35:59] might be 90% of the time it's loose and colorful which we got from a john mayor documentary
[00:36:05] the john mayor trio yeah loose and colorful so we'll say something that's like hey like this is
[00:36:09] what we're gonna do on stage just be loose because of full and then play the show and if we do
[00:36:14] have too much uh yeah what is it what's your name over gravity sleep that's usually the best
[00:36:23] just to sleep through it but if I can't um like probably like a workout of some sort or uh
[00:36:34] yeah a workout of some sort catch it catch a w for the day um and just or just uh sit outside in
[00:36:40] the summer and just sweat or uh that sounds like the two things you don't want to do is be in the sun
[00:36:46] and the y'all hot it's kind of like yeah I think sitting out with the sun and sweating it out
[00:36:51] and breathing like two things yeah crazy but letting that stuff get out of you and then
[00:36:56] if you actually hear the dog kind of trick you know I do think that does help but they say it's not
[00:37:01] the way it's a short term it is uh when speaking of whim off though I would say like from experience
[00:37:09] just if you if you did have access to a sauna and then from there you go to an ice bath I mean
[00:37:16] you're you're a new you're a new man like a little brook's and dog brand new man starts playing
[00:37:20] just through the evidence yes I like a cold shower nice cold ice cold shower little hair of the dog
[00:37:30] maybe ice cold shower bear yeah you hear the dog yeah I had an ice cold shower again that sounds really
[00:37:36] stuff it is whim off over here climbing a mountain barefoot you know we can we can take a cold shower
[00:37:43] I think guys great yeah right oh yeah but uh no guys we love you love the music love you guys uh
[00:37:50] been so nice to us and cool with us and can't wait to share the new stuff and obviously this Friday too
[00:37:55] as well big big music date is Friday with the firm pie can zap and you guys with a new single and
[00:38:01] um look can't wait to share it stay safe out there and again I'm really excited to be able to
[00:38:07] have you on again so appreciate the time boys hey thank you for the kind words and for you know always
[00:38:13] uh sharing our music to a lot of people out there that never heard it and thank you for your time
[00:38:18] as well you know you guys are in Wisconsin Colorado national Tennessee but glad we can
[00:38:23] put it because it's about music and live man so until next time you guys take care absolutely cheers guys
