[00:01:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, there's a reason he didn't get that Super Bowl

[00:01:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah

[00:01:24] [SPEAKER_01]: It seemed like they were bringing it up a lot tonight

[00:01:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Which I didn't know if it was like on purpose to have like show their support and be like yeah

[00:01:33] [SPEAKER_01]: That's all right Al like we still love you or if it was more like

[00:01:38] [SPEAKER_01]: You're really good at your job still and I disagree with this

[00:01:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Decision that they made did you have any thoughts on that? I

[00:01:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Did not listen with the sound on for long enough to have any strong opinion on this

[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_01]: but try to get yourself a little Al Michaels time during these prime games because

[00:02:31] [SPEAKER_01]: He really drops of doozies on there because he knows he's not not on broadcast TV

[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Like he is just openly talking about how shitty the hotels are in some of these cities

[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's become sort of a running joke with him in Kirk

[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Kirk's like yeah, I hear you're excited for next week. We got a great hotel coming

[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_01]: You know it's sort of stuff like that. So I would highly recommend

[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_01]: All right, I could also see why they don't run on our on casting the Super Bowl because it our guys gotten a little loose

[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, you know he's trying some things out. He's working some things out

[00:03:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of trying some things out the Broncos tried getting their asses beat

[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_00]: And let me tell you they were pretty good at it once they started

[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_00]: That was if you listen to the podcast

[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_00]: I knew that this was gonna happen as the no stradamus of the Broncos. I

[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, I just touch

[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Terrell Davis issue

[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_00]: which Dan keeps in his basement and then I

[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_00]: I

[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Briefly and I want to emphasize this here briefly

[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_00]: touched Ed McCaffrey's old femur and

[00:03:44] [SPEAKER_00]: then I see into the future and

[00:03:48] [SPEAKER_00]: I know it's gonna happen in these Broncos games. So I

[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Knew that this was gonna happen, but Ryan I will say it felt worse watching it live because

[00:03:59] [SPEAKER_00]: It was I

[00:04:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Mean it just looks so hopeless

[00:04:04] [SPEAKER_00]: For the Broncos like it was everything I thought would happen, but still watching it play out that way was depressing

[00:04:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Did you have this similar feeling of like oh this makes sense, but also?

[00:04:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Dang, this is the worst outcome

[00:04:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, if you remember I laid out. I think what would have been a worse outcome

[00:04:26] [SPEAKER_01]: It which involved Russ fumbling a snap and kicking the center in the

[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Is

[00:04:32] [SPEAKER_01]: His loins as one might say

[00:04:36] [SPEAKER_01]: But I do agree that it did not look good. I didn't have the same feeling of pain because as you remember

[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I hate Russell Wilson with the fiery passion of seven hells so I

[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_01]: That's not true. I just remember Super Bowls past I just hold grudges and people don't forget

[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_01]: so I

[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Didn't have the same feeling of hopelessness

[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_01]: But it was sort of your classic Broncos loss in that there were points in the game where you're like, huh?

[00:05:11] [SPEAKER_01]: And then it's just like immediately crushed and that really has been the

[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_01]: The Broncos MO for probably what the last five to seven years. So

[00:05:23] [SPEAKER_01]: It felt very bronco Z. It also felt very Russell Wilson II

[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_01]: and I mean, I'm sure we're gonna get to this coming week here shortly, but I

[00:05:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Think they could have some problems

[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Because this this defense over under is set very low

[00:05:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, you're right. We will get into that

[00:05:46] [SPEAKER_00]: But I don't want to let you off the hook with this Russell Wilson thing because I'm glad that you use the phrase people don't forget

[00:06:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Ed McCow and I have been looking at this restaurant where each bite costs $200 and it's a mandatory 10 bites

[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_01]: You but they say they change your life as we say routinely on this podcast. We never root for injuries

[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I gotta say I see I

[00:06:56] [SPEAKER_00]: See this is what it's come down to you this kind of Tom Fulery

[00:07:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Will it wasn't indictment of Russ though. No, I want to gloat more but his last game was because that Lions

[00:07:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Defense is terrible. It's not like they are really bad

[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't just like oh bowls had a bad game or something, you know

[00:07:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I think I think we can both agree that Russ has been much better than last year and

[00:07:25] [SPEAKER_01]: He the system fits in better like everything has worked better for Russ this year as opposed to last year. That is fine sure

[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay

[00:07:37] [SPEAKER_01]: There's also the fact that the game has not changed like how he's getting these yards is

[00:07:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Still bullshit. It's smoking mirrors

[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_01]: It's Sean Payton sending a running back to the outside of the field like look at his passing map

[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_01]: The entire middle of the field might as well not exist

[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_01]: so like it's

[00:08:01] [SPEAKER_01]: This is not

[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Replicable on a level that is going to go anywhere, right? Like it's gonna win you some regular season games

[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_01]: We've seen that clearly

[00:08:12] [SPEAKER_01]: This defense has been up and down and Russ has been good enough to win you some regular season games

[00:08:17] [SPEAKER_01]: But when it comes down to football that actually matters and when you actually have stakes

[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_01]: This is not going to be a success successful offense, and it's not Russ doesn't have that in him anymore

[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_01]: so I

[00:08:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Think the real problem is is that I'm not sure that Broncos fans have accepted that

[00:08:37] [SPEAKER_01]: I think there's still a lot of like

[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's not really him. It's this it's that it's the defense and like if we got this it

[00:08:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Might be back in like okay. What are you then a wild card team?

[00:08:52] [SPEAKER_01]: You know like I just don't know what the like how are we judging this now because it feels like yeah

[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that moved a number of times. Yeah, yeah, and I think

[00:09:03] [SPEAKER_00]: To your point. I think the fairest way to evaluate Russ

[00:09:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Is based off of his contract like you are paying oh?

[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Top five quarterback

[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_00]: and so then

[00:09:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, you're just taking a net negative, but you know there's degrees of net negatives to your point like

[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_00]: two years ago it was

[00:09:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Unsustainably net negative like it was this will sink the ship

[00:09:30] [SPEAKER_00]: This year. It's been hey

[00:09:32] [SPEAKER_00]: the water is choppy, but we're floating and

[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_00]: I

[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Think that that might mean sadly for

[00:09:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Your Broncos fandom and for a lot of Broncos fans. I think now I think he's done enough that they will

[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Roll the dice on having him and maybe

[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Trying to figure out free agency or figure out something down the road or draft someone, you know middle of the first round

[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_00]: And just kind of take swings on it, but he's made himself a

[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Fine stopgap

[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_00]: But I do think and I think this is kind of the last place to take this conversation as it was

[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_00]: big throughout Broncos country this week is

[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_00]: The Sean Payton yelling at Russell Wilson

[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_00]: On the sideline like that's clearly not something you do and not something you saw from him to Drew Brees

[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Like I was thinking about that. I was like, ah Sean Payton's like a fiery guy

[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it's just that and then I was like I never remember seeing anything like that

[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Hold on though. Hold on. I

[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Like he doesn't respect Russ like that. I actually and I think that shows he's the stopgap

[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I kind of disagree

[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_01]: And this is gonna be maybe this is stupid, right? Like it's clear right so there

[00:10:51] [SPEAKER_01]: I think there are two things going on Sean Payton doesn't have the same relationship

[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Sean Payton

[00:10:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't have the same level of like history with Russell Wilson as he does with

[00:11:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Drew Brees so we can't compare those two like he absolutely wouldn't do that in a game setting to

[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Drew Brees

[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_01]: you get him in the locker room and

[00:11:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I

[00:11:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Think that Sean Payton is the type of coach who's gonna motherf the guy in the locker room

[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_01]: He might not do a publicly on the sideline to and that that could be the difference

[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_01]: But this guy is old school like if if you are doing what Russell Wilson was doing and he was pissed

[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_01]: And he told it and I think that's actually good

[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't I I think that that was sort of the lack of accountability that hack it was letting happen in the building like

[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_01]: and

[00:11:49] [SPEAKER_01]: honestly, I think

[00:11:51] [SPEAKER_01]: You probably win over the team and you hopefully know that Russ is not going to like

[00:11:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Take it to heart as much as the media wants to talk about it

[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Like Russ probably knows what he was doing was wrong and

[00:12:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Understands why Peyton was pissed in the moment. So like I kind of think people made too much about that

[00:12:17] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll just say I

[00:12:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Come down on I'm fine with you know, it's not a normal workplace. There's yelling whatever

[00:12:28] [SPEAKER_00]: I thought Peyton was a coward to not go for that fourth down and

[00:12:33] [SPEAKER_00]: He absolutely punted the game there and then to like be yelling at Russ

[00:12:38] [SPEAKER_00]: And if I'm Russ I would have been like, okay, then give me the ball at the six

[00:12:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Like we'll take penalty. Whatever if we don't get it on fourth

[00:12:45] [SPEAKER_00]: You can come over here and call me every name in the book

[00:12:48] [SPEAKER_00]: That's whatever but you just punted on the game and you know it like you know

[00:12:51] [SPEAKER_00]: We're not gonna stop them enough to the way

[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_00]: We didn't need to make that a touchdown right there because 28 14, you know, it's

[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Probably the Lions are gonna continue moving the ball will but it at least puts a little more pressure on old small hands

[00:13:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I think I well in the all night

[00:13:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I want to I do want to bring up the Russell contract thing for just I looked it up on Spoketrack

[00:13:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Just to see what the dead cap numbers look like the real problem that

[00:13:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Broncos fans have to understand is that this dead cap number

[00:13:31] [SPEAKER_01]: gets

[00:13:33] [SPEAKER_01]: significantly

[00:13:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Better if they hold on to him for the entire year next year and it's not like

[00:13:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean we're talking about an 85 million dollar dead cap hit and that a 49 million dollar dead cap hit

[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's and then it goes down to 31. So if you can hold on until 2026

[00:13:55] [SPEAKER_01]: There's like a real option to get rid of this and it's not a crazy

[00:13:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Out like you're paying a lot of money, but the Walton's have a lot of money

[00:14:04] [SPEAKER_01]: so I think my

[00:14:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Hill that I'm gonna die on is just finding somebody who's young and

[00:14:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Just with the success that Sean Payton has had with the smaller quarterback and Russell Wilson and had his entire career

[00:15:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, I think Bill Simmons might be listening to the podcast and using us as sort of like his producers and obviously he's smarter

[00:16:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Then you have a very good chance of going to the playoffs. I forget exactly what it was

[00:16:42] [SPEAKER_00]: But it was high 70s that the Broncos would make the playoffs with winning out

[00:16:48] [SPEAKER_00]: So it all starts here at home

[00:16:51] [SPEAKER_00]: This game

[00:16:53] [SPEAKER_00]: The spread keeps climbing it opened at minus six then it went six and a half now

[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_00]: It's already up to seven at some places

[00:17:09] [SPEAKER_00]: They're not expecting tons of points here either for such a big spread

[00:18:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And you're like every shot of major who is better than this big 10 team look at is bet is

[00:18:20] [SPEAKER_01]: hammering me under and somebody I was listening to

[00:18:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Said something that really resonated to me in such in situations like this

[00:18:28] [SPEAKER_01]: They just said sometimes you can't make the number low enough

[00:18:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Like you do have to get equal action on both sides and the public is so dumb

[00:18:39] [SPEAKER_01]: That if you set the number low enough, they're just gonna bet the over because they're like no way

[00:18:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh way and this is a great example of that
