[00:01:05] Reel Nerds Podcast Reel Nerds
[00:01:16] Hey everybody! Welcome to Reel Nerds Podcast.
[00:01:19] We are the best movie podcast on the internet
[00:01:23] and you can see us in person.
[00:01:26] This coming July at Denver Fan Expo,
[00:01:29] look for the Pizza Hut inspired booth.
[00:01:34] I am joined as always by my buddy Brad.
[00:01:38] How are you today?
[00:01:40] I am struggling to keep up with everything we have to do
[00:01:43] for that con, for my screening.
[00:01:46] I got rear-ended yesterday so now I have to add that into the schedule.
[00:01:50] That sucks.
[00:01:53] Where did you get rear-ended at in your bedroom?
[00:01:56] Ha ha! Saw that coming.
[00:01:59] In a Taco Bell drive-through,
[00:02:01] one of the Door Dash guys parked his car but didn't park it.
[00:02:05] He stopped it so it rolled into me.
[00:02:08] Oh shit!
[00:02:11] Did it damage your car bad?
[00:02:14] Not bad, but there's a dent in it for sure.
[00:02:17] The tire might be bent, but like I said,
[00:02:20] now I have to get that assessed and that's time I have to take out of my day to do.
[00:02:25] Who's your insurance company?
[00:02:27] Allstate.
[00:02:29] Do they have their own place you have to take it to?
[00:02:32] There's a place I have to take it to.
[00:02:35] Yeah, places like insurance companies like that usually have some sort of huge
[00:02:42] garage you take it to.
[00:02:45] Yeah.
[00:02:47] Soxman?
[00:02:49] Is the back right tire so my only real concern is that maybe the back axle is bent.
[00:02:56] The tire?
[00:02:58] I mean I've been driving around and it seems fine,
[00:03:00] but it's just like one of those things like I was joking.
[00:03:03] Now I finally paid off my car like what's going to happen in the next year
[00:03:07] that's going to make me have to buy a new one and get back on to a payment.
[00:03:11] It's like, yeah, I'm sure this is probably an axle bent thing
[00:03:14] where they're going to zero it out and then I just got to get back into a monthly payment.
[00:03:18] Great.
[00:03:19] And it hit you while you were in your car so you hurt your foot really bad
[00:03:22] so you get money right?
[00:03:24] Yeah, my neck is feeling really sore two days later.
[00:03:27] Speaking of cars being wrecked our movie of the week is Furiosa, a Mad Max saga.
[00:03:32] Stay tuned if we recommend the film or not.
[00:03:34] We'll play the trailer and then boil the movie.
[00:03:37] We'll also talk about the big movie news of the week and things we've watched throughout the week.
[00:03:43] Wait, wait, I misspoke earlier.
[00:03:45] I wasn't just sitting in the Taco Bell drive-thru lane.
[00:03:48] I was on the Furry Road doing a road tour.
[00:03:51] Oh there we go.
[00:03:52] That's what happened.
[00:03:53] That's way cooler than that.
[00:03:55] That's happened.
[00:03:56] You don't pay the toll to...
[00:03:59] I didn't give a Morton Joe bullets in oil so yeah,
[00:04:05] hundered me down and backed into my car.
[00:04:08] It's messed up.
[00:04:10] Fucked up but that's the price you pay.
[00:04:15] Brad, do you recommend Furiosa?
[00:04:18] Yeah, I do.
[00:04:20] I think it's still a good movie.
[00:04:22] It doesn't live up to my love for the Furry Road.
[00:04:26] That's mostly just because obviously they had a budget cut
[00:04:31] because the last one I think either broke even or made a little less than break in even
[00:04:37] and the effects are pretty reduced to the point where I was like,
[00:04:42] oh that's such a bummer.
[00:04:44] But there's still a lot of amazing stuff in it
[00:04:47] and the story is a little weak because it's really just like,
[00:04:50] do you want to, sorry that fills in the blanks of the character you saw in the last movie?
[00:04:54] There it is.
[00:04:55] So yeah, there's not a lot of new stuff that they throw at you.
[00:05:01] The last one was a complete advancement of the Mad Max franchise.
[00:05:07] But it's still like I've seen it three times already once in 40X so it's worth it.
[00:05:13] Yeah it's interesting.
[00:05:16] I think I'm actually in the same boat as you.
[00:05:19] I really liked it.
[00:05:20] I thought there's lots of cool moments but man some of the green screen was rough.
[00:05:27] Yeah that's one of the basic effects is just compositing and like they couldn't get it done.
[00:05:32] It's shocking.
[00:05:33] Yeah because I mean how long has this movie been delayed?
[00:05:37] Like I don't know a year.
[00:05:39] So yeah, I think that was my only disappointment in it.
[00:05:45] I mean I think when they went back to the actual stunt work of the cars and stuff like that
[00:05:51] it's an incredible movie.
[00:05:53] Here's a trailer for Furiosa.
[00:06:19] As a child my world was forever changed.
[00:06:22] It was magnificent.
[00:06:28] And he took it all from me.
[00:06:35] Who do we have here?
[00:06:39] She's from a place of abundance.
[00:06:41] This is our destiny.
[00:06:45] My childhood.
[00:06:47] My mother.
[00:06:48] I want them back.
[00:06:50] I want them back.
[00:07:00] Whatever you have to do.
[00:07:03] However long it takes.
[00:07:05] Promise you'll find your way home.
[00:07:10] Protect the green place.
[00:07:12] It's time to take what's right for you.
[00:07:15] Ready?
[00:07:17] Ready?
[00:07:21] Go!
[00:07:22] I'm full of hope.
[00:07:32] There is no hope.
[00:07:35] If you find him he's mine.
[00:07:53] There will always be war.
[00:07:55] But to get home.
[00:07:58] Furiosa fought the world.
[00:08:06] Remember me.
[00:08:14] At the beginning you touched on it Brad.
[00:08:22] It's really just filling in the blanks of the story Furiosa told in Fury Road where
[00:08:31] as a child she was kidnapped and her whole mission is to finding her way back home.
[00:08:39] And we chart her life.
[00:08:42] I don't know maybe she's like 10 or something at the beginning.
[00:08:45] And we see how she becomes who she is.
[00:08:54] And you meet Chris Hemsworth, Demetreus.
[00:08:59] What the fuck is his name?
[00:09:00] I was just literally just dying.
[00:09:01] Tementis.
[00:09:02] Tementis thank you.
[00:09:05] And he's a really fun character because he seems like he's kind of goofy.
[00:09:10] But then as you peel back the layers you realize that he's pretty smart and pretty ruthless.
[00:09:18] And really just fighting his time to advance his goal.
[00:09:23] I like his take on like he's a bad guy but for the most part he's nice to everyone.
[00:09:31] Like he presents himself as like really charming and nice even though he does horrible things.
[00:09:36] Whereas like a Morton Joe is just like a bastard you know.
[00:09:40] Yeah oh yeah total piece of shit.
[00:09:42] And yeah because there's even that.
[00:09:45] Yeah you know he falls like in love I guess with a guy who kind of looks like Mad Max.
[00:09:54] But his death is pretty brutal.
[00:10:01] I mean he gets I don't know for hours he gets dragged behind a motorcycle while dogs are eating him.
[00:10:07] And that part I thought you know Chris Hemsworth was really good at that part.
[00:10:13] Where you kind of saw where he was at his breaking point.
[00:10:17] He changed it to the dark Dementis.
[00:10:19] Yeah and yeah because he has basically three characters throughout it.
[00:10:25] You know he's at the beginning he kind of has a Jesus vibe about him.
[00:10:30] You know dressed in the white cloak.
[00:10:32] He seems really nice.
[00:10:35] Yeah he has a Messiah complex.
[00:10:37] But like behind it all his goal is to take over all quadrants of the wasteland.
[00:10:42] Yeah and like you know what I really liked is I thought this world was really well realized.
[00:10:50] I gave a lot more to the wasteland you know where there's bullet town or gack town.
[00:10:57] Yeah like those things we just talked about in the last one but you actually get to see them.
[00:11:01] Yeah and you get to see part of his plan was to fake that he lost control of gack town to drop the guard of everybody and you know take over bullet town which I thought was really cool.
[00:11:19] And yeah so the movie is really cool.
[00:11:23] Yeah but you're right I didn't have the stunt work.
[00:11:27] I thought I mean it was great when it was in camera but it didn't really have the oh shit moments of Fury Road.
[00:11:38] Yeah like there's some parts where like that first you know it takes a while to get going to like the big stunt stuff.
[00:11:46] But yeah there's like that first war rig chase where they have like the fan packs with the pairs and stuff like okay this is you know this is different and interesting like kind of like an aerial attack.
[00:11:59] Correct.
[00:12:01] But yeah there's just like really shoddy like compositing CGI bodies falling off of the war rig that are like not that like the movement is not quite right.
[00:12:12] It's almost like 2002 Marvel movies type stuff.
[00:12:17] Yeah it's disappointing because you know Fury Road didn't rely on that at all and it was kind of a badge of honor when they were marketing it.
[00:12:28] And you know the one that really irked me and it wasn't necessary is when they go to the Citadel the first time and Chris Hemsworth is talking and the camera is to his right.
[00:12:44] And the background you can tell is just all CGI and it's you can see the CGI matte painting.
[00:12:52] Yeah and you can see the light bouncing off of his features.
[00:12:57] You know like it's too bright around the outline of his face if that makes any sense to people listening.
[00:13:05] Yeah clearly than that is when Fury Road's mother is hunting her down and they go through that rock that's like in the middle as a crack in the middle.
[00:13:13] And like the lighting just doesn't match the rest of the scene.
[00:13:16] It's clearly the standing in front of either a big LED screen or just a bad composite.
[00:13:21] So yeah later on when Dementis is in his chariot it looks like all of his other lackeys are actually in camera but like he's because he's Chris Hemsworth and there's probably an insurance issue they composited him in.
[00:13:34] Yeah and you know I don't know if it was a stylistic choice that it's.
[00:13:40] But yeah it was a bummer because I mean the movie is still cool and I think everybody should see it's one of my favorite movies so far this year.
[00:13:47] But that's the only thing that kept it from being a five star movie to me.
[00:13:51] Yeah totally.
[00:13:52] Those moments took me out of the film you know.
[00:13:55] Yeah.
[00:13:56] And you know you mentioned how they moved.
[00:13:59] Yeah there's a couple of times when it was either a war boy or one of the marauders they would pump their fist in the air and it just looks so unnatural.
[00:14:10] And you could just pick out the CGI guys and I don't like that.
[00:14:14] Yeah they had those far away shots like there's this right before they draw in court of that one dude like all the cars and bike riders like roll up to that cliff edge and like.
[00:14:25] Yeah.
[00:14:26] Like some guys fall out of like off the bikes and then later on at the very end like one of Dementis is like the guy with the missing eye like when the motorbike guys catch him like he falls off and all that stuff just doesn't look right.
[00:14:39] Yeah.
[00:14:40] Was that really hard to shoot in camera.
[00:14:43] I know.
[00:14:44] Especially because they had that one shot at the beginning which was awesome where furious his mom shoots that dude on the dirt bike and he kind of jumps off and slides down the dude which was freaking badass.
[00:15:01] And so yeah I don't know if because I know fury wrote to kind of got a.
[00:15:08] Reputation of how hard it was on stunt people and the actors.
[00:15:12] I wonder if he had to tone it down because Warner Brothers made him.
[00:15:16] Oh probably they're like look we can't like the last time we gave you like two hundred million dollars or something to do this and it like went on forever and you know if we want to make a profit we got to give you like a third of that so I feel like he really just got budget
[00:15:31] cutted the hell out of it.
[00:15:34] Into the code with what he had.
[00:15:37] Yeah I mean the movie still has lots of energy.
[00:15:41] When it is in camera I think it looks really cool that war rig.
[00:15:46] That took place on Fury Road the battle there I thought was awesome.
[00:15:50] Yeah and that's like twice the size of the road rig.
[00:15:54] Yeah because even did some cool camera movements where you know it whether it's a war boy or one of the marauders when they were coming in the camera would follow him in and then pull back really fast.
[00:16:05] But you can see what was happening on screen and I thought that was cool.
[00:16:09] And when that octopus kite like flies in and gets caught on stuff like yeah cool stuff like that.
[00:16:17] Yeah he's definitely still has the vision to pull off really cool ideas.
[00:16:23] Yeah I switchers more in camera.
[00:16:26] Yeah I agree it's like ten years later it should be getting better and not worse.
[00:16:34] So yeah agreed because they like even Fury Road like watching it I felt like oh they do us for real but then you watch the behind the scenes special features like oh gosh a lot.
[00:16:46] There is actually a lot of CGI in this movie that's like just done so well you don't notice and that didn't happen here which is just a bummer.
[00:16:56] Yeah agreed because yeah it just totally takes you out of the movie.
[00:17:00] It's like oh there's no danger in that shot so everyone's safe.
[00:17:05] Yeah I want to see movies like stunt rock where the dude's like falling out of the air and almost dies each time.
[00:17:13] There's a great documentary on that Blu-ray about how dangerous that movie was.
[00:17:19] I wonder if too they're just like it's a rated R action movie that has sort of has like a big following but you know it's no Barbie you know.
[00:17:29] Oh yeah.
[00:17:30] So I'm like wonder if they're like where brothers have the mentality like look most people are going to watch this on TV we don't have to put any extra effort into these effects.
[00:17:42] Yeah it definitely had is interesting because I was this is a week later let's pull back the curtain and they're talking about you know how Mad Max was never a big franchise.
[00:17:56] And that this movie only only did 40 million dollars to open.
[00:18:02] It's hard to say that it's an actual failure because you know they kind of play for a long time and they gain the status over time.
[00:18:12] I think it's a really cool film opposed to all at once because you mentioned it before even Fury Road while it was really cool and it did pretty well.
[00:18:20] It didn't do you know gangbusters so.
[00:18:23] Yeah it's I think it's only real mistake is that they put it as the more moral day weekend feature like which is historically everyone expects that to do like 100 million dollars.
[00:18:34] Whatever the movie is I think that was just like not a good play like this should be like a late July offering or something.
[00:18:43] Greed early April.
[00:18:45] Yeah but you know the labor strikes kind of fucked everything up too so they read an interview on Forbes with box office analysis and they said one of the problems is and they think what's hurting it is there's no consistency in the movies being released right now.
[00:19:04] And I mean it's a perfect example is our for film of the next week is a small budget horror film because there's nothing opening new big this week.
[00:19:13] So you know huge.
[00:19:16] I think they thought Fury Road so it was gonna be like a two week like double hitter for number one.
[00:19:21] But yeah looking ahead for the rest of our schedule I was trying to plan our episodes and like for summer blockbusters there's not a lot of blockbuster stuff.
[00:19:30] No there's like a bunch of high budget family films like inside out to but yeah there's no like I guess twisters.
[00:19:39] Like sure like how yeah like I'm sure they think it's a big deal but what's like a 20 25 year old blockbuster that no one's played with for that long you know.
[00:19:54] You know it's interesting you say that in the same article they say that twisters is tracking well ahead of what they thought it was going to do.
[00:20:03] So they're thinking that twisters might be a really big surprise hit now I mean I don't know if it'll translate and I don't know how they I mean they must do it by internet clicks or something for the traffic but.
[00:20:15] Yeah I don't know I mean I can see it doing like surprisingly well but I just look at them like the difference between then and now is like I know that everything dangerous on screen is completely computer generated.
[00:20:28] So it's like there's no yeah there's no peril or yeah urgency when I feel like I watched the trailers is like there's nothing everything is safe like it can make you convince me this is super dangerous and I know it's not whereas the original was like at least they.
[00:20:44] Had like rigs and yeah actual rain like all that's kind of stuff on set you know.
[00:20:50] Yeah even the Hollywood reporter they did an article it says it's time for moviegoers to decide what they want from movies because one of the big shock.
[00:21:00] Yeah one of the big shock of this summer so far as the fall guy isn't going to make a hundred million dollars and everybody liked it it was well reviewed it had Ryan Gosling and Emily blunt people that everybody loves and it did okay.
[00:21:18] They don't know I think Hollywood is struggling right now.
[00:21:24] Yeah I haven't seen it for a while you know you shouldn't blame your audience like you just do better work but I really feel like lately it's like the audience complains and then they do the thing that the ask them to do and then they don't like we want less sequels and reboots and then they go and just pay for those sequels and reboots instead of actually going out doing the work and finding original content.
[00:21:47] And on their own.
[00:21:48] I agree.
[00:21:49] It's like we did the work we went saw the movie next we're going to see a movie next week.
[00:21:55] That's Andy low budget thing and that's supposed to be new and different and like they expect Hollywood to share those unique things like they're not going to put marketing into stuff that they're like I don't know what people are going to think of this you know so obviously.
[00:22:11] Yeah guys on it.
[00:22:12] Yeah they're there.
[00:22:13] I think they're lost to and you know it doesn't help the strikes didn't help them.
[00:22:20] Marvel not doing well this last couple movies hasn't helped.
[00:22:25] So it's interesting and hopefully they're saying by the winner there's lots of great movies coming out for the winner that they're hoping that it'll catch up the box office but if it doesn't I guess Hollywood has to.
[00:22:38] Recalibrate again.
[00:22:40] Yeah it's just yeah it's just weird for what feels like just took a sub dude summer you know.
[00:22:46] Yep.
[00:22:47] Because I think yeah the only thing else I'm looking forward to is Deadpool Wolverine I think that's like the last of the twisters the only thing I think they can cross 100 million.
[00:22:55] Yeah and it's the end of July so.
[00:22:58] Okay.
[00:22:59] Two months to go.
[00:23:01] This is the big news story of the week.
[00:23:09] It's real news.
[00:23:16] So Brad did you see that friends is coming out on 4k ultra HD.
[00:23:21] I did.
[00:23:23] Could that be any weirder.
[00:23:27] It's really interesting to me because I how many TV shows are on 4k like Game of Thrones Jack Ryan these big budget you know actions one.
[00:23:38] And.
[00:23:40] Yeah I was reading the press release and they're gonna they're gonna have new documentaries on it and they're gonna have 20 hours of legacy content.
[00:23:48] I go man this is a good time to be a movie collector or a show collector.
[00:23:53] I don't know how like they make that show 4k like did they feel either.
[00:23:59] It is on film.
[00:24:01] I do know that.
[00:24:04] I'm interested of course I preordered it.
[00:24:07] My wife says how much was it I suppose it says it's 250 I'm sure it'll drop by the time it's released and then she just rolls her eyes and reaches for possible divorce papers but you know.
[00:24:22] But I'm excited because I mean to me.
[00:24:27] I mean 250 boxes a lot but friends went on for 10 seasons.
[00:24:31] And it's you know the only season that was shorter was the last one and each season is usually 24 episodes so you get I think there's 256 episodes of friends.
[00:24:42] I don't think that's like that ridiculous of a price so.
[00:24:47] I was on the forum her blue ray dot com and this one guy who was pissed answered his own question and it made me laugh on the inside.
[00:24:55] It said of course Warner Brothers would release this shitty show all it does is make the money.
[00:25:01] There you go man he literally just answered your own question on why this is coming to 4k.
[00:25:06] But still like technical wise I'm just like it looks great on blu-ray.
[00:25:11] I don't know what 4k is going to add to this show.
[00:25:14] I don't know I'm fixing to find out the only thing I don't like is I have the really fancy complete series on blu-ray where it comes in a really nice bound book.
[00:25:23] And this packaging looks like it's pretty flimsy.
[00:25:28] Yeah it's probably like a paper cover with a plastic chunky.
[00:25:33] Yep.
[00:25:34] Plastic case inside like the thick case.
[00:25:37] And I'm worried that they're going to cram like one season on each 4k disc because it's you know 100 gigs and you can double layer it'll be 200.
[00:25:47] So my biggest fear is each season is only on one fucking disc and but whatever gets not up to me.
[00:25:57] Yeah that's what an odd like yeah 4k makes sense to me for movies or shows that are shot in the past 10 years you know.
[00:26:06] But yeah like at that point yeah why don't you just yeah upgrade the different dick band actually or something to 4k.
[00:26:13] Like I was also shot in film so.
[00:26:16] Yeah I would take it you know I was thinking something like 24 that's never been on blu-ray.
[00:26:20] Oh my god.
[00:26:21] It should be on 4k.
[00:26:23] Yeah that's long overdue and that's why it's modern enough that and has like cool effects that would warrant you know the 4kness of it.
[00:26:33] That I think it's still really popular so.
[00:26:36] So if you're listening Disney who owns you know 20th century Fox now come on.
[00:26:43] Is it I think it's for next year is it is like the tour no this is like the 24th anniversary of 24 isn't it.
[00:26:52] It is and they're not doing anything with that such a waste.
[00:26:55] I know why aren't we in charge Brad that's what I want to know.
[00:26:59] Because our ideas are so good like we would suck up all the money in Hollywood and yeah they're afraid of us.
[00:27:09] They hate us because they ain't us Ryan I knew it I freaking knew it.
[00:27:16] Huh it's so weird that like Disney plus now all the box stuff that's on there is just like is this Disney plus.
[00:27:24] I know.
[00:27:26] Yeah there's like the last Omen like right next to like Peter Pan funny.
[00:27:32] It is it's because yeah I mine integrated my Hulu into it so my Disney plus when it pops open.
[00:27:40] It'll have yeah just you know snow white in the seven dwarfs or the classic cartoons I like to watch and then at the next like roll over as the first Omen.
[00:27:52] Yeah David Cross is latest comedy specials on here too this is so weird.
[00:27:58] I love it.
[00:28:01] Any of.
[00:28:03] Hey we watch movies throughout the week in a second I call what we've been watching.
[00:28:09] So yeah this is the stuff we've been watching.
[00:28:13] Brad would you watch this week.
[00:28:17] This week what did I watch.
[00:28:21] Try to remember that talk about flubber last week are you weren't on last week were you.
[00:28:27] I was not I called in my review.
[00:28:33] Yeah shoot I can't remember if I talked about it with Zach or not.
[00:28:38] Fine I'll say is like I don't get that movie because the dude has a flying AI artificial intelligence droid and he's he's trying like that's not his breakthrough invention like a hover converted sentient robot that no one cares about that they would care about his alternative fuel source.
[00:29:02] Yeah that come out I have I remember absolutely nothing from that movie is it like 2000 97.
[00:29:09] Wow fuck yeah I mean it's where you make a they have some kind of professor but yeah.
[00:29:14] Yeah I mean I only remember the Robin Williams one but now that you say I don't remember anything from because I haven't seen it since 1997.
[00:29:23] Yeah I never saw it until now and yeah there's he has this like assistant robot called weibo I think basically looks like a room but that flies.
[00:29:33] It has like a screen on it and it's weirdly in love with him to the point where he like webo keeps interfering with he's supposed to get married and webo keeps trying to like break that up because she's in love with him.
[00:29:52] Yeah I don't remember that at all yeah anyway.
[00:29:56] I'll take your word for it that that happened.
[00:29:58] Yeah my biggest takeaway was like the super like Star Trek science you think Star Wars droid and he's like I kind of got to invent something else like they're trying to save the college by creating some great invention and no one's like maybe we should market and sell the droid.
[00:30:17] You made that flies.
[00:30:19] He's like making flubber so his car can fly but like he made this robot fly without flubber so I don't know why we're making flubber.
[00:30:29] Sure I'll take your word for it I seriously don't remember anything from it.
[00:30:37] I found this that you've been watching these movies from the mid to late 90s is I know I've seen them and I remember flashes of the film but I don't remember anything about them.
[00:30:49] Yeah that's I think that that's just us getting old like those brain cells are the ones that got killed when we stayed up too late and did too many consistent weeks of podcasting.
[00:31:03] Yes.
[00:31:04] Well we you know we watch so many movies they just overwrite old movies this point there's no room for.
[00:31:10] When the movie doesn't leave an impact on me I'm like get the fuck out of my brain.
[00:31:14] Yeah squeezing it out your ear.
[00:31:17] Yeah so I watched the new hit man movie not the video game one but the Glenn Powell one that just came out.
[00:31:25] And yeah I he's a like a high school teacher who moonlights as a master of disguise for like the local police.
[00:31:38] Dana Carvey.
[00:31:41] A little bit.
[00:31:43] Yeah he weirdly just likes putting on costumes and pretending to be hit men so the police can entrap people I guess is entrapment.
[00:31:55] Yeah the police get tips that spouses or like people are just bring out hits on people and so he pretends to be hit man and he meets this one woman who wants to kill her husband because he's abusive.
[00:32:09] And he falls in love with her and kind of convinces her not to do that but there's a twist.
[00:32:17] And yeah I don't know it was kind of once he sells into like the one persona of the hit man and like gets more confidence by the end.
[00:32:27] I don't know it wasn't that interesting.
[00:32:31] But it's Richard Link later right.
[00:32:35] Yeah right.
[00:32:37] It's not like a kind of movie he'd make.
[00:32:40] It's very dramatic like this you'd think it'd be more actiony and like more gunplay but it's really a lot of just people talking.
[00:32:48] But like his performance is like the different personas that he creates to do this is kind of fun.
[00:32:55] But yeah I could kind of tuned out by the end of like this is wrap this up I don't care anymore.
[00:33:04] You get hit man movies just like yeah.
[00:33:07] And eventually like her husband finds out that this happens so he turns the tables and again like I watched it like two weeks ago and it wasn't good enough for me to remember as we were talking about.
[00:33:20] You can't remember movies from 27 years ago and two weeks ago.
[00:33:24] I see so many in a single week.
[00:33:27] Similarly I watched the Amy Winehouse movie back to black because I was like this is the last movie in theaters I haven't seen.
[00:33:34] So let's give us a shot and why like probably one of the weirdest biopics I ever watched really.
[00:33:43] Yeah there's just a vibe about it that's odd like I think the performances are good.
[00:33:47] The lead person I'm not like this huge Amy Winehouse fan or no much about her career other than that she died you know.
[00:33:57] Like as I was watching the movie was like I was listening for like have I heard this song before is this like a famous song type stuff like that's how much little I didn't know.
[00:34:08] And yeah it's like the whole movie just revolves around her like relationship with I forget his name but like this one maybe it was Blake I think.
[00:34:18] Blake.
[00:34:19] Blake.
[00:34:20] And she's like obsessed with the guy and yeah.
[00:34:25] Fucking Bilacke.
[00:34:28] Her just in the movie portrays her descent into you know her death was all rolling around doing everything for this guy and ruining her life over it.
[00:34:39] Like this co-dependent relationship that they have.
[00:34:43] You know she starts out all I don't do drugs because that's for you know losers and by the end yeah she's like doing everything to stay with this guy.
[00:34:56] And at one point like the finale is she's at the Grammys I'm like oh she's gonna win the Grammy and then like offhandedly in the next scene they talk about like it's really great you won your fifth Grammy I was like that was her fifth one.
[00:35:11] So he didn't get assassinated like weird Alan.
[00:35:15] Yeah.
[00:35:16] All right.
[00:35:17] Took herself out later.
[00:35:19] Yeah so I don't know it just wasn't like an interesting movie to watch is like oh god I get it.
[00:35:30] She loves this guy let's move on.
[00:35:32] It's like two and a half hours.
[00:35:34] Wow.
[00:35:35] Yeah.
[00:35:36] We can definitely cut a bunch of stuff out of this.
[00:35:40] Yeah that's why I watch this week.
[00:35:43] Yeah you know I've been working so much.
[00:35:45] I haven't watched it.
[00:35:47] I watched School of Rock with my kid which I haven't seen that movie in a long time.
[00:35:51] It's part of my ongoing series of Blu-rays I own that I haven't watched yet.
[00:35:55] And that movie is still really fun.
[00:35:59] It's just if you haven't seen it Jack Black plays a guy named Dewey who's down on his lock because he's also like a want to be musician.
[00:36:08] He pretends that he's his friend and substitutes at this really up and private school and he creates a band with all the gifted children in his class and shenanigans ensue.
[00:36:20] But it's a fun movie and I can't believe I it's 20 years old you know and we are talking about Flubber being 97 and that's when I know I'm really old.
[00:36:31] The things I've seen in theater and I've enjoyed are now on their 20th anniversary you know.
[00:36:37] It makes me feel really old and it doesn't feel like it's that old of a film.
[00:36:42] Right?
[00:36:43] Yeah.
[00:36:44] Yeah and I also saw Spider-Man Far From Home in theaters and I will say that the extended version is new scenes in the film.
[00:36:58] Which I wasn't expecting because you reminded me that they did re-release it with like a Stanley tribute in it.
[00:37:06] And I thought that's maybe what it was going to be but no there's extended scenes and the fights with the elementals are actually longer which is really cool.
[00:37:17] And it was fun to see again.
[00:37:19] Yeah.
[00:37:20] The you know the Hydro Man and Bolton Man guy.
[00:37:25] Oh God.
[00:37:26] Yeah God I haven't seen Far From Home in forever I guess.
[00:37:29] So yeah the one I noticed the most was when he was in Venice and fighting Hydro Man that battle scene went on for like another three or four minutes where he's working with Mysterio and teaming up and they do a couple things to knock down the water elemental.
[00:37:49] So it's really cool seeing it.
[00:37:52] And it's fun seeing it with the crowd because there's a lot of people there.
[00:37:57] Yeah that's someone that has like there was like a scene in a restaurant that they cut out and then yeah it was like replacing this extended right?
[00:38:06] Yeah so he's fighting the mob boss people yeah.
[00:38:11] That scene they repurposed on the 4k it's called Peter's like to-do list or something.
[00:38:20] So they took that out and they just made it's like a seven eight minute short film but they re-put that back into this movie too.
[00:38:28] Yeah because he was in the trailer and then yeah we saw the movie wasn't there yeah.
[00:38:32] Yeah so it's kind of it's fun so it was really cool seeing it again and I still think Mysterio is a really cool villain.
[00:38:40] And his reveal is even though I knew he was going to be a bad guy it's still a kind of a cool reveal.
[00:38:48] Yeah just freaking love Spider-Man and being back and yeah that is all I watched this week.
[00:38:58] I ended up working like 60 something hours this week so I would go home and I was like okay I'm going to watch Modern Family and fall asleep.
[00:39:08] Yeah like I watched you know a bunch of family guy that I hadn't seen yet so but that's like yeah not.
[00:39:14] You're just like me there's like fuck this I don't want to do anything it's time just to do Joe now.
[00:39:19] Yeah like there's just too much to do like I need something that like I want to kind of see that's new but also like I got to not give it my full attention so yeah stuff like that's great for that.
[00:39:30] Agreed.
[00:39:32] Next week Brad we're seeing you mentioned an indie really small budget horror film called In a Violent Nature which is one of the movies I've wanted to see most since I saw the trailer.
[00:39:45] So yeah that'll be fun and remember we'll be at Fan Expo Denver July 1st through the 5th or 2nd through the 5th whatever 4 days in the beginning of July is we'll be there.
[00:39:57] It's the 4th through the 7th.
[00:39:59] Is it 4th through the 7th?
[00:40:01] 4, 5, 6, 7 yeah.
[00:40:03] See Brad knows.
[00:40:06] Yeah up until like yesterday I was telling people it was the first year of the 4th and actually look at the counter is like oh no like the weekends after the 4th crap.
[00:40:16] Well we knew it was in July that's what counts.
[00:40:19] It's only like three weeks away you know.
[00:40:22] Yeah.
[00:40:23] Time to get it right.
[00:40:25] So until next week we'll see you out the movies.
