[00:01:01] Hey you Reel Nerd listeners! I am Ryan and you are listening to the best movie podcast on the internet.

[00:01:23] The Reel Nerds Podcast. Every week we see a movie and we podcast our experience to the world.

[00:01:30] This week we saw The Fall Guy. Stay tuned where we will review the movie. Well, we'll tell you if we recommend the film or not.

[00:01:39] Play the trailer then spoil the movie. Movie News is also what we'll talk about and what we've been watching

[00:01:45] and I'm always joined by my buddy Brad. Brad, how are ya?

[00:01:49] I'm the co-host.

[00:01:52] Yeah, I'm alright. I'm super excited that we got accepted to Fan Expo so I've just been cranking away on all of our stuff

[00:02:01] so I don't end up like last year the weekend of building the set.

[00:02:06] Well, full disclosure, last year, we finally unveiled it and we've been sitting on this idea for a year.

[00:02:16] Last year, in case you're wondering, yes we were named one of the top 10 things at Denver Fan Expo by Westward Magazine.

[00:02:25] In a world of many things, we were one of the 10.

[00:02:29] Yes. It actually was pretty shocking. I didn't tell us that we were going to be on there.

[00:02:37] I didn't know it was a thing they even rank.

[00:02:40] Some congoer told me about it when we were there.

[00:02:44] Last year, our booth was really cool. It was an homage to Blockbuster Video in the 90s.

[00:02:52] Specifically 1993, while we were sitting around, we were brainstorming an idea for this one

[00:03:00] and I don't know who came up with it. I'm just going to say me because I'm a genius.

[00:03:05] We decided to do Pizza Hut.

[00:03:09] I was like, hey man, I'm feeling a little hungry. What kind of pizzas do they have back there?

[00:03:13] Brad, I got this idea.

[00:03:16] Did you just say pizza?

[00:03:19] But in seriousness, I do think that you and I have kind of the same nostalgic glasses we look through.

[00:03:29] Pizza Hut, when I was growing up and you were growing up, Brad, was a big part.

[00:03:33] I'm not even exaggerating a big part of my life because we went to, I lived in gold and you lived up in Genesee.

[00:03:40] They used to have the Bookit Club where you would read a book.

[00:03:45] I forget how many books you had to read to get a free personal pan pizza. Was it five or something?

[00:03:50] I think it's five.

[00:03:51] Yeah. You'd get a free personal pan pizza. Your mom would take you there.

[00:03:55] You could also buy 99 cent video cassettes of single episodes of Ninja Turtle cartoons.

[00:04:02] It's just something that I really connected with when we brought up the idea.

[00:04:07] I think you did too, Brad.

[00:04:09] Yeah.

[00:04:12] That's a lead in for you to talk about it.

[00:04:15] I thought you were going on stuff.

[00:04:18] Yeah, no. Pizza Hut in the 90s was like our, I don't know, Brown Palace, Cosmonita.

[00:04:26] Yeah. That's a good way of putting it.

[00:04:28] Yeah. That was the pinnacle of dining out for us, I don't know, geeks, nerds.

[00:04:37] Yeah, but there's something about the way it smelled. There's some seasoning in Pizza Hut that is very distinct.

[00:04:44] You know what I mean?

[00:04:45] Yeah. Back then they actually had a dining room.

[00:04:49] So yeah, all that wafted in there constantly.

[00:04:52] Whereas now it's just like a get countertop that you get to go.

[00:04:57] Yeah. You know, I thought one that was a full service restaurant when I was in Montrose.

[00:05:02] When I was coming back from Telluride Horror Show last year.

[00:05:05] There's one. I haven't been able to stop in yet, but there's one in federal.

[00:05:10] Is it really?

[00:05:11] Yeah. South of Sixth Avenue.

[00:05:13] Or is it Sheridan? One of the two.

[00:05:20] I don't know.

[00:05:21] But yeah, it's, yeah. I got it. Next time I'm in the area, I'm going to stop in and check it out.

[00:05:28] But yeah, that's the one. There's one really close to us.

[00:05:32] So yeah, so our idea was is we're going to recreate in our booth a 1990s Pizza Hut.

[00:05:40] If you're hearing this after the fact, you've already seen that we've posted the awesome logo you made on our social.

[00:05:49] And I always know, Brad, when you make something that connects with people because it starts getting a lot of traction.

[00:05:56] And your logo you created has gotten a lot of traction from my friends and our listeners.

[00:06:02] Nice. So that's good. Good job with that.

[00:06:07] So yeah, so when you come to our booth, we're still hammering out the details.

[00:06:11] Of course, we're going to have probably candy and prizes and you'll be able to record on our show like every year.

[00:06:18] This year, the show is four days long. So you have more opportunities to hang out with us.

[00:06:23] And I'm excited. I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to get the Pizza Hut smell.

[00:06:28] And then today I had an epiphany, Brad. And tell me what you think.

[00:06:31] Okay.

[00:06:32] So the con starts at 9 30 in the morning.

[00:06:37] So I won't be able to get pizza the day of the con.

[00:06:41] But I thought I was going to maybe I could get a few orders of the breadsticks,

[00:06:45] heat them up before we go to the con.

[00:06:48] And when we get there, I'll take them out and people can eat them or something.

[00:06:54] I don't know.

[00:06:57] Yeah, I don't know. I don't know if they'll stay warm given how long it takes to get to our booth from walking around.

[00:07:03] But you know, maybe I'll ask one of the pizza places in town if I can borrow one of their.

[00:07:10] Pizza bags.

[00:07:12] Yeah, because I would, you know, before I come to the con, I would warm them up in the oven.

[00:07:17] And I know it's not going to be the same as if you get them fresh.

[00:07:20] But I kind of want the smell in there.

[00:07:23] I don't know how I'm going to do it.

[00:07:24] Here's the alternative because I've also been researching this.

[00:07:27] There is a pizza perfume that we can spray on ourselves.

[00:07:33] It's 20 bucks. It's a cologne that we wear.

[00:07:37] It's supposed to smell like pizza.

[00:07:41] Okay.

[00:07:44] I mean, I don't know if I want to spray it on me, but I'm down to get it and smell it.

[00:07:50] And then if it smells right, then we can spray it around our booth.

[00:07:55] I was hoping when I was looking around that there'd be like a glade pizza air freshener that we just like whispered in the background.

[00:08:00] But so far, I haven't found that.

[00:08:03] But yeah, there is a, there's two, there was a pizza branded perfume for some promotion a couple of years ago that we missed.

[00:08:12] But yeah, there's this other one on Amazon that's just a cologne that's pizza scented that we can, yeah.

[00:08:19] It's like 20 bucks or 25 bucks.

[00:08:24] Bit expensive if it sucks.

[00:08:27] But I think it'd be a good alternative.

[00:08:30] Yeah, but I think if we bring like warm pizza or breadsticks, if we do that for a little bit and they just sit in our booth, I'm pretty sure it'll smell like this.

[00:08:41] I think we just have to like bring in one pizza at least and then yeah, just to help.

[00:08:45] Yeah.

[00:08:46] So your breadsticks and get the full effect. But yeah, we'll figure it out.

[00:08:51] Yeah.

[00:08:52] So make sure you come by and say hi.

[00:08:56] This week, Brad, we saw the fall guy.

[00:09:00] Is it a movie you recommend?

[00:09:02] Yeah, I think it's fun.

[00:09:04] I didn't think the story itself was that interesting like the mystery was like meh.

[00:09:09] I didn't really care too much about it or didn't think it was like that surprising or interesting.

[00:09:16] But Ryan Gosling is super charming the whole cast is charming.

[00:09:22] And it's just like another one of those fun romantic comedy slash action movie for quadrant things that they went all out on to try to bring in every possible audience.

[00:09:35] And the action is pretty good.

[00:09:36] So yeah, it's fun but it's not something I'm going to probably own on Blu-ray or anything.

[00:09:43] I had a lot of fun with this movie.

[00:09:45] One, you know, I love Emily Blunt and I think she's fantastic in it.

[00:09:50] But it was also really fun.

[00:09:53] Yeah, I mean, I don't the mystery is whatever.

[00:09:56] I think that's kind of, you know, a sea plot.

[00:10:00] It's all about the relationship that Emily and Ryan have.

[00:10:06] And I think their chemistry is great.

[00:10:08] And the movie is really fun.

[00:10:11] And yeah, I think it's a perfect movie to go and just have a good time in.

[00:10:18] Here's a trailer for the fall guy.

[00:10:22] That's me, Colt Severs.

[00:10:24] And this is my hero's journey.

[00:10:30] We're just stopped from the top.

[00:10:36] Okay, I'm not the hero of the story.

[00:10:40] I'm just a stunt guy.

[00:10:42] Trying to look cool in front of the director of this movie.

[00:10:45] That's her.

[00:10:46] Who I just so happen to have a major crush on.

[00:10:48] We need to keep it super professional.

[00:10:50] Cool. Do you want to make out?

[00:10:52] Nope.

[00:10:53] Because I don't need to. It's not what I'm into right now.

[00:10:55] Making out?

[00:10:56] Yeah.

[00:10:57] What are you into?

[00:10:58] Talking.

[00:10:59] Yeah.

[00:11:00] There's just one little wrinkle.

[00:11:02] The star of the movie.

[00:11:03] Tom, Tom, Tom, Tom, Tom, writer.

[00:11:05] He's missing.

[00:11:06] We need you to find him.

[00:11:07] Why me?

[00:11:08] You're a stunt man.

[00:11:09] No one's going to notice whether you're here or not.

[00:11:11] No offense.

[00:11:12] I mean, some taken.

[00:11:14] Tom.

[00:11:15] Full disclosure, he has fallen in with some shady people.

[00:11:19] Just checking in on you.

[00:11:20] And they're not going to like you sniffing around.

[00:11:27] I'm just a stunt guy.

[00:11:31] This is insane, man.

[00:11:33] Uh-huh.

[00:11:35] We got drugs, bad guys, and murder.

[00:11:42] What's an ice crime?

[00:11:43] Are you saying ice cream or ice crime?

[00:11:45] Ice crime.

[00:11:46] Okay, since you're into this, I'm not reporting an ice cream.

[00:11:48] Yes, no, I get that.

[00:11:49] Okay.

[00:11:50] This is an epic story.

[00:11:56] The cosmic propulsion.

[00:11:57] Stop!

[00:11:59] The bad guys are closing in.

[00:12:01] We're going to hide you.

[00:12:02] Nope, we're going to beat this shit out of them.

[00:12:06] I never forget a fist.

[00:12:08] I don't mean it like that.

[00:12:13] Nothing like a good twist.

[00:12:14] Who doesn't love a twist?

[00:12:19] Let's make some trouble.

[00:12:20] Get out of my head.

[00:12:23] Stay alive.

[00:12:25] No matter what.

[00:12:26] What?

[00:12:27] We're going to beat the shit out of them.

[00:12:28] No.

[00:12:31] I have a better idea.

[00:12:34] You want to die?

[00:12:35] Okay.

[00:12:36] Maniac.

[00:12:38] This stuntman's crazy.

[00:12:45] We're going to surround him.

[00:12:46] And we beat the shit out of him.

[00:12:50] Shit.

[00:12:54] One last stunt.

[00:12:55] Going down in a blazer glory.

[00:13:04] We need a big finale.

[00:13:07] How many takes do you have?

[00:13:08] I've got five takes.

[00:13:13] So big.

[00:13:19] Like we already alluded to,

[00:13:21] ball guy is Ryan Gosling.

[00:13:22] He plays Colt and he is a stuntman

[00:13:26] and he is the stuntman for the biggest star in Hollywood

[00:13:31] who is played by Aaron Taylor Johnson.

[00:13:34] I forget his character's name,

[00:13:36] which is kind of pathetic because

[00:13:39] I literally just saw the movie.

[00:13:41] Well, a couple days ago.

[00:13:44] Yeah, I remember either.

[00:13:45] And Emily Blunt's character

[00:13:51] is a camera operator who wants a chance,

[00:13:56] she gets her chance to direct a film.

[00:13:58] And that film happens to be a movie called

[00:14:02] Metal Storm, which I kind of want to see.

[00:14:04] I'll be honest.

[00:14:05] Actually, I did that.

[00:14:07] That was the most interesting thing for me.

[00:14:08] It was like, I hope they make this movie real.

[00:14:12] So Aaron Taylor Johnson plays Tom Rider.

[00:14:17] Emily Blunt.

[00:14:18] So she plays Jody and she goes from being a camera operator

[00:14:22] and having a relationship with Cole,

[00:14:24] on this movie that Colt ends up getting a back injury

[00:14:30] on that takes him out of the game.

[00:14:32] He breaks back.

[00:14:33] Yeah, and he doesn't want to go back.

[00:14:35] But he is lured back by a woman named Gail,

[00:14:41] who is Hannah Waddingham, who's amazing in Ted Laszow.

[00:14:46] And she's really good at this too.

[00:14:48] Yeah, she's a mega producer from Hollywood.

[00:14:50] Correct.

[00:14:51] And so she tells Colt that Jody wants him on the movie

[00:14:57] because the other stuntman isn't there.

[00:14:59] So he goes there and we find out that Jody did not want him there,

[00:15:04] that he was lured there by Gail.

[00:15:06] And they try to make the best of what's happening

[00:15:09] in the film.

[00:15:11] And he's like, I don't know if he's going to get it.

[00:15:14] But he's like, I don't know.

[00:15:15] So I was like, I don't know if he's going to get it or not.

[00:15:18] And I think he's really a great actor.

[00:15:21] He's really good at a lot of things.

[00:15:23] And he's not just a great actor,

[00:15:25] but he is a great singer and a great actor.

[00:15:27] We know that Tom is missing and they need to find him.

[00:15:31] And then there's a mystery that involves his dead stuntman

[00:15:36] and what unravels from it.

[00:15:42] Yeah, it's fun.

[00:15:43] I was laughing at some of like the silly stuff that all the sticky notes around Tom Ryder's apartment

[00:15:52] The first one that Colt picked up said why is Chinese chicken orange?

[00:16:01] It's stupid shit like that that I love in movies

[00:16:05] And yeah, like the action is really good in it and actually thought it did a really cool job of kind of

[00:16:10] Paying tribute to stunt people. Yeah, it is a really good tribute to like the stunt industry

[00:16:16] I think there's even a comment in the middle of the movie where they're like

[00:16:19] You know how many Oscars if a stunt people one like there's no Oscar for it

[00:16:24] something like that

[00:16:25] Yeah, but there's

[00:16:28] You know the action is super cool in it that one scene where they're

[00:16:34] Going downtown Sydney, Australia on the I guess a trash truck with the

[00:16:39] Empty thing in the back

[00:16:42] Was pretty fun and then at the end of the you know the movie

[00:16:44] They're showing the behind the scenes on how they kind of pulled that stuff off

[00:16:48] Right me of a Jackie Chan movie, you know, yeah, the Jackie Chan movies you always calm get hurt

[00:16:53] I was super surprised because I was watching the movie thinking like God this looks like so CGI slick

[00:17:00] Modern action stuff and then they roll the credits and you see all like the live-action shooting and there's like

[00:17:07] They actually did that he's not just like green screened into trash truck

[00:17:13] Yeah, no it was it's cool and I wonder if there has something to do with

[00:17:18] How films are made now because it's all digital

[00:17:21] Yeah, things within the post-process when they like color grade it and everything. Yeah, make it look super slick. It just like

[00:17:28] Looks like the same way, you know the one

[00:17:33] When they're fighting in the apartment and the one guy falls on the couch the other guy hits the ground

[00:17:39] And then you see it in the credits and they actually did it and that dude hit the ground hard. Yeah

[00:17:45] Yes, most things like I don't I know they have padding on but come on

[00:17:49] Like how do they not get super injured on these?

[00:17:53] And it just I saw this at the Alamo and the Alamo played the trailer for stunt rock before it and I said hey

[00:18:00] I saw that movie this week

[00:18:02] Another cool effect is how they they'll be like showing you it's also cool

[00:18:07] Like if you're movie fander like what it's you also get to like watch people on set actually work

[00:18:12] In order to detail the most movies, but yeah, they'll show the rehearsal or whatever they're doing or the take and then they'll

[00:18:20] Start out with a like a polished finished version of it and then switch to what it really looks like

[00:18:25] I thought that was cool of a transition to do in scenes

[00:18:30] Yeah, and as I was watching it. I was thinking to myself. I said, you know, I

[00:18:35] Really enjoy this movie and it's kind of cool to see a just a fun movie. You know what I mean? They there's no

[00:18:44] Pretentiousness about it. It's literally

[00:18:48] I wouldn't even call because the trade is kind of portray Cole as a dumb stunt guy and he's really not

[00:18:54] he's actually really smart and

[00:18:57] He is really charming and he generally cares about people so

[00:19:01] It was fun

[00:19:03] And I was funny too. What I love sometimes when I see

[00:19:07] Movies the Alamo is when the pre-show does a really good job of tying into the movie

[00:19:12] And in the pre-show they were showing behind the scenes of the Miami Vice stunt extravaganza at Universal Studios

[00:19:19] And at the beginning I said, oh, they're just showing it because it's done and then is actually a job Cole had

[00:19:25] Yep

[00:19:29] When he at the end when he's driving the boat and he sees his opportunity to do this done

[00:19:35] That he did the whole time and people thought he was dead

[00:19:38] Yeah, and they played the Miami Vice theme song. I go, ah man

[00:19:42] They also details I like they also karaokeed the Phil Collins song from that got big from Miami Vice

[00:19:48] Yeah, and fucking Emily blunt man. She can sing she can dance

[00:19:53] She can act she's beautiful

[00:19:56] Fucking Jim Halpert

[00:20:02] Yeah

[00:20:03] There was one like partner I was like I got super confused by when he's tripping on

[00:20:08] Whatever he got slipped in the in the Shirley Temple

[00:20:12] Yeah, the Shirley Temple when he like finally finds the body in the bathtub and then he shows up with the cops later and the body's not there

[00:20:20] Mm-hmm, but later on, you know, it's all over the news that there was a body there that they found I was like

[00:20:27] So did someone put a body back in the tub or what?

[00:20:31] But I thought it was really funny a little funny

[00:20:35] Moment you reminded me is the drug dealer says

[00:20:39] You know

[00:20:40] Cole asked me says when is this gonna stop? He said when you see the unicorn

[00:20:43] It's almost done and then for the next like 10 minutes in the movie. There was always a unicorn around. Yep

[00:20:50] Stuff like that I fucking love in movies

[00:20:53] I'm so like when he's uh talking to Tom rider, you know, he's like tied up the chair on the dock

[00:20:58] And I forget what the exact exchange was but like uh, Cole says something like but I'm supposed to die, right? Like

[00:21:06] That was the plan

[00:21:09] Yeah, like it's such a good exchange of like he's just kind of like

[00:21:12] You know Tom's doing this monologue and then Cole's just casually like under his breath like

[00:21:16] replying to these things

[00:21:19] About how stupid this is. Yeah. Yeah

[00:21:23] Yeah, because it's kind of a meta part because he's monologuing and

[00:21:28] You know Cole is basically talking answering him while he's monologuing

[00:21:33] Um, it's just really fun. Um and well made I think the movie is really well made

[00:21:39] Um, you know just a fun time to go to the movies. I enjoyed it a lot

[00:21:45] Yeah, also like the setup of they tricked Tom into doing the stunt with him

[00:21:51] Yeah

[00:21:51] To confess and yeah, like that whole setup was was pretty good

[00:21:56] Yeah, because even the stunt that they were doing there where he was driving through the I guess kind of a ravine

[00:22:02] And uh him jumping out of the helicopter landing on the air pad

[00:22:07] or whatever you call it

[00:22:09] Seeing that at the end too how they pulled it off was really cool. Yeah

[00:22:13] Yeah, maybe that's too the uh

[00:22:16] David leach who directed it started as a stunt man and then directed is it john wicks three or two

[00:22:22] One of the John

[00:22:25] Where the dead bulls right?

[00:22:27] Yeah, anything is Deadpool 2

[00:22:30] So that's cool too that he kind of transitioned to that

[00:22:36] But you would think you know a stuntman probably would make a good director because

[00:22:39] They are in the nitty gritty of the filmmaking

[00:22:42] And you have to you know know your mark and your place and all that stuff

[00:22:46] And where cameras are so you probably would make a good director if you're you know good action director

[00:22:51] Yeah, yeah, I think story is probably like the next thing he has to work on just kind of

[00:22:58] I don't know. Yeah, some of that's the edit, but yeah

[00:23:01] Yeah

[00:23:03] Yeah, I have a lot of fun and did I mention that Emily Blunt is amazing? I don't know if I've

[00:23:08] Oh, she's in this movie. Oh, I don't oh, yeah

[00:23:10] I didn't know it. She's great in the movie too

[00:23:13] He really is and I know I have a huge crush on her, but she is a really great actress. She really is

[00:23:19] Totally because because remember the last thing she did it was Oppenheimer

[00:23:22] And then she did this

[00:23:25] He literally can do anything

[00:23:28] What's up with the academy giving Emma Stone the oscar over her?

[00:23:32] I know

[00:23:34] I mean, it's hard to argue

[00:23:37] Because Emma Stone is fucking brilliant and poor things so yeah

[00:23:41] That's all same about that

[00:23:45] cool

[00:23:46] I was going to make our movie news of the week

[00:23:49] That's returning to fan Expo

[00:23:52] So, I don't know if I don't think I have anything else and I know they cast the galactus in the fantastic four movie

[00:23:58] Oh, did they?

[00:23:59] Yeah, so they got a big bad is galactus, which is pretty cool

[00:24:03] Hopefully he shows up like he does in the comics, you know with a big purple

[00:24:07] And blue skirt thing

[00:24:09] No, and he's not he's needs to be like a floating cloud

[00:24:14] Oh, that's really to do it

[00:24:16] Yes

[00:24:17] Isn't that funny in 2005 they thought that

[00:24:20] Galactus has the appears in comics is too stupid. So they made him a giant like fart cloud

[00:24:26] You know, I don't know a nebula. So it's like a floating nebula that just travels across the space

[00:24:32] predict

[00:24:33] Yeah, just make it cool

[00:24:36] Make him the big fucking monster dude that he is I'd watch that and I hope that's what they do

[00:24:44] It's interesting that it's ramping up because you know, there's only one Marvel movie this year

[00:24:49] So, yeah, I guess it's pretty much like a celestial

[00:24:53] size thing. Yeah, I mean he probably is

[00:24:57] He probably is

[00:25:00] Cool. Hey, we watch stuff throughout the week in a segment. I call what we've been watching

[00:25:07] So, uh, yeah, this is the stuff we've been watching

[00:25:11] Hey before we get into it, why don't we hear what Corinne has been watching this week?

[00:25:16] Hey nerds Corinne here for another installment of showtime where I tell you all about something cool

[00:25:20] I've been watching lately this week

[00:25:21] I'm gonna focus on the bad batch because we had the series finale the other night

[00:25:26] And uh, I've I've been processing everything

[00:25:29] I will not give any spoilers

[00:25:32] Because I do think that this is a series that I want people to watch

[00:25:35] And if you know too much going in it won't hit the same

[00:25:39] so I will not be giving any spoilers for the finale or for the show in general, but

[00:25:43] I just want to say real quick that

[00:25:46] Man, I last summer I was like in the same situation with headlass at right

[00:25:51] Where it was this show that I had been really invested in I'd really grown to love these characters and

[00:25:57] You know, I had been watching the episodes like as they dropped and got really invested

[00:26:02] And then the Ted lasso series finale was

[00:26:06] disappointing

[00:26:08] Underwhelming I was also just not in a great place personally at the time

[00:26:12] So it really hit even harder that the finale

[00:26:17] Didn't give me what I wanted didn't go the way I thought it would but also I you know, and it's like yes

[00:26:25] You know

[00:26:26] Like personally I was

[00:26:28] Upset about that, but I was like even objectively I felt like

[00:26:32] This didn't go the way it should have like we I felt like we were building up to

[00:26:37] you know this other

[00:26:39] resolution this other conclusion and then that didn't happen and

[00:26:43] I don't know it was just strange anyway, so

[00:26:46] I was a little afraid that the bad batch was going to do the same thing to me again this year

[00:26:51] And again, I was like probably got too invested in the show to be honest of

[00:26:56] You know waiting up every night watching the new episodes and getting really excited

[00:27:00] And then it's building toward the finale and I was like, oh my gosh like anything could happen

[00:27:04] You know a lot of these characters don't pop up in like later

[00:27:08] Movies or tv shows so they don't necessarily have plot armor

[00:27:13] So yeah, like anything could happen and you know, there's a lot of fun theorizing and everything going into the finale

[00:27:19] I will say that there were a couple of

[00:27:21] Tiny things one kind of big thing that did not happen

[00:27:25] um and the one thing that I was kind of waiting for and it didn't happen. I'm like

[00:27:30] Looking back on it. I I felt like I was kind of

[00:27:33] A lot of us not just me but a lot of us were kind of being delusional about it of like, oh, you know

[00:27:38] Well, they might be able to still pull it out and it's like

[00:27:42] It's too late in the season like if they were gonna do it. They would have done it already

[00:27:46] again don't want to spoil anything but

[00:27:48] yeah, um

[00:27:50] So as far as like overall the show the bad batch

[00:27:55] I'm saying that season three is definitely my favorite this most recent season

[00:28:01] I think objectively it's also the best season

[00:28:04] It feels

[00:28:06] Weird to say but it feels a little bit like avatar the last airbender where

[00:28:10] You know those that first season kind of rough second season

[00:28:15] um

[00:28:16] Well, I think it's different for the bad batch than it was for avatar the last airbender

[00:28:20] but

[00:28:21] For both of them. I feel like that third season is the strongest because

[00:28:25] All of those pieces that they've been building up in the first two seasons really come together so well

[00:28:29] And you kind of start to see what they intended the show to be all along and like how all these characters arcs are paying off

[00:28:37] Um, so again. Yeah, I think objectively season three is the best

[00:28:41] Um, but also it's my favorite. So maybe it's not quite so objective

[00:28:45] um

[00:28:46] I can understand why if you happen to watch the first season if it wasn't your thing

[00:28:51] Why you wouldn't have invested into season two because I do think season two is the weakest

[00:28:55] Of the bad batch's season. Oh

[00:28:59] It's the weakest season of the bad batch. I I would say

[00:29:02] There are some episodes I really really love

[00:29:05] Like in general, I think that the ceiling for season two was just as high as it was for any of the other seasons

[00:29:11] But unfortunately, I think the floor was a lot lower and even just the average episode. I think was just

[00:29:17] Like, you know, kind of a b minus c plus territory

[00:29:21] Like there are some episodes that i'm like a plus and then there are other episodes that i'm like d minus

[00:29:26] so

[00:29:27] But at least for season one. I felt like everything was consistently

[00:29:31] b plus and then for this third season. I think everything was

[00:29:36] Um a minus b plus there were a couple of

[00:29:39] episodes that I have gripes with

[00:29:41] um

[00:29:42] Two kind of in the middle and then three toward the end that i'm like, I think we could have consolidated this and then like done something else along the way but

[00:29:50] oh well, um

[00:29:52] overall like

[00:29:53] I understand why like if star wars isn't your thing if you wouldn't have watched the bad batch or

[00:29:59] You know the pilot episode is like 75 minutes. So I think if you couldn't get through the pilot episode

[00:30:03] I don't know if you're gonna want to watch the rest of the series, but

[00:30:06] I mean if you're a star wars fan at all and you have not seen the bad batch

[00:30:12] Please give it a chance

[00:30:14] as I said like season one, I genuinely think season one is better than season two

[00:30:20] So if you can get through season one, I think you can get through the rest of the show

[00:30:24] um

[00:30:24] The season one finale is fantastic

[00:30:27] And again, I feel like it tells a cohesive story

[00:30:31] Both within the season itself, but then once you see the larger narrative

[00:30:35] And how the show ends it fits perfectly. So

[00:30:40] That's all i'm gonna say

[00:30:41] um, I really I really love these characters. I love their story

[00:30:46] excited to see them, you know potentially and other

[00:30:50] spin-offs prequels

[00:30:52] sequels whatever we might get down the way i'm sure there's going to be like a comic or something but

[00:30:58] um, yeah, it's a good it's a good time to be a star wars fan

[00:31:01] I guess I have not seen tales of the empire

[00:31:04] Shoot, I haven't even seen tales of the Jedi

[00:31:07] And that was like what year or two ago

[00:31:09] um, I'll get around to it eventually but i'm not like dying to see it but

[00:31:14] Yeah, the bad batch

[00:31:16] It's it's gonna be a special show in my heart. Um for I think a long time

[00:31:23] That if I think they're gonna release everything on blu-ray and I'll probably own it. Um

[00:31:29] Yeah, it's probably gonna be one of my top

[00:31:33] Like American made shows, you know up there with like Justice League and Avatar the last airbender

[00:31:39] um

[00:31:40] So yeah, I'll probably be it'll be one of those shows that i'm sure like every year or two

[00:31:45] I'll go back and rewatch it just like I have with um with Justice League and Justice League Unlimited

[00:31:50] You know where I always

[00:31:52] You know every couple years I have like a phase where it's like oh, I gotta rewatch Justice League or something but

[00:31:56] um, yeah

[00:31:58] The bad batch it's an amazing show. I felt like the yeah the finale was very

[00:32:03] Satisfying for for fans. I know some fans were disappointed again because things didn't work out the way we wanted to but at least for me

[00:32:11] I was

[00:32:13] fairly satisfied

[00:32:14] so

[00:32:15] Yeah, overall I'd give the show

[00:32:18] A minus b plus

[00:32:20] um again

[00:32:21] It's if you're a star wars fan and especially if you're a fan of the prequel trilogy the clone wars era

[00:32:27] I think you'll really appreciate it

[00:32:30] So all right nerds. I'll talk to you guys next time with something hopefully not star wars related but um

[00:32:36] Or maybe I will because um, dairy and I are gonna go see the phantom menace in theaters tomorrow. So

[00:32:42] Um, maybe check in with you guys about that next time or it was something else to be determined

[00:32:47] All right, so take care and keep it real nerds

[00:32:52] Bye

[00:32:53] Cool. Thanks, Corinne. So ryan brad would you watch this week?

[00:32:58] Let's see, um

[00:33:01] I watched cone cone into the destroyer

[00:33:04] Conan the destroyer

[00:33:07] Yeah, it's

[00:33:09] It is a like the tv movie version

[00:33:13] Of conan. I know compared to the original because you know

[00:33:16] The first conan is rated r. I think one's rated pg. Yeah, and you can definitely tell

[00:33:21] He's got like a a fun team of sidekicks

[00:33:24] Uh

[00:33:26] Yeah, uh, olivia diabo is some princess who has to go to another wizards castle to get some

[00:33:32] jewel that's gonna help ursa

[00:33:34] from superman 2

[00:33:37] become powerful

[00:33:39] and be sacrificed and uh, yeah

[00:33:42] conan has like

[00:33:44] bob the goon from batman 89 and this is bumbling sidekick

[00:33:49] And uh, grace jones is uh a warrior that they free from a town that's like

[00:33:55] teasing her

[00:33:57] Yeah, do you remember grace jones in it? Yeah

[00:34:00] Who I uh, so I actually have the 4k of this

[00:34:03] I haven't watched yet because i'm doing that thing where you know movies. I own that I haven't seen

[00:34:08] So I got the really cool arrow set what's called the conan chronicles

[00:34:12] Yeah, me too. It's beautiful. Yeah

[00:34:15] Although I wish I got them separately because I do like this single black box, but

[00:34:20] Yeah, anyway, but yeah, it was uh

[00:34:23] Yeah, I gave it a shot thinking because the last time I watched it like I think I did

[00:34:27] Turned it off within like 15 minutes

[00:34:30] It's like early 2000s when I got on dvd in that two pack

[00:34:34] So but yeah, I sat this at the esquire and I sat through and I was like, yeah, yeah, okay. I was kind of right

[00:34:40] Yeah, this is not

[00:34:42] Horrible, but it's definitely a few steps down from the barbarian

[00:34:48] Yeah, like this action is not great and uh,

[00:34:52] you know the the lighting and production design is pretty

[00:34:56] bright and

[00:34:58] I don't know. Not not terribly moody

[00:35:00] Yeah, it doesn't fit the the vibe of them the universe that it's in

[00:35:05] There's a part where like in the wizards castle like there's a room full of mirrors

[00:35:09] um, and then like the wizard guy

[00:35:13] Appears in all the mirrors and so color has to smash each of the mirrors to like find the one that actually has the real one in it

[00:35:19] It goes on for like I think there's only 16 mirrors and you think I think he smashes like twice that many

[00:35:26] Is the editor just like let's use every angle of this to draw it out because it wouldn't take that long to smash all of them

[00:35:33] Yeah

[00:35:34] Pretty pretty silly. Um, I rewatched fan of the fan of menace for the 25th and it was

[00:35:41] May the fourth so I was like, you know what?

[00:35:44] I'll I'll watch this again in theater or whatever

[00:35:46] Yeah, and for like the first time ever watching it. I was like this is fucking boring

[00:35:53] Like other than everything in between

[00:35:56] Like the first sequence and the potter race and then the duel of the fates

[00:35:59] I was just like oh my god

[00:36:02] They're just remembering my 18 year old self being like this is amazing

[00:36:06] and now being like

[00:36:08] shut up out the trade routes and

[00:36:10] uh

[00:36:11] Are we like does quigan not know that amadal Padme is queen amadala because he sure acts like she uh, she isn't

[00:36:18] I think he would know

[00:36:21] And then yeah palpatine

[00:36:23] Being city-ist like I feel like that's an obvious thing but we didn't treat it like it

[00:36:30] You know I even if like you're not a star worse than I'd be like these two dudes look alike like

[00:36:37] And also, I don't know why he's city-ist like started this whole

[00:36:42] Trade route like attack naboo like what I don't understand how that gets him where he wants to be like

[00:36:49] anyway, yeah

[00:36:51] But I said it's the least

[00:36:53] Good of the prequels

[00:36:56] Disagree still the best of the three

[00:36:58] Even as boring as it was

[00:37:00] No

[00:37:01] We'll always disagree on that always

[00:37:05] uh

[00:37:05] then speaking of the things that um

[00:37:08] I wasn't able to uh stay awake through mars express

[00:37:13] Which is like a french anime

[00:37:15] Oh my god, like it's technically I guess not anime, but it's like a french movie that looks like anime

[00:37:21] Um, I watched it fell asleep

[00:37:24] Through most of it not because it was boring. I just passed out

[00:37:28] I woke up occasionally and uh

[00:37:32] I went back the next day and tried it again

[00:37:36] Because I have a rekel pass and that's it's free um, and yeah, it was uh pretty good

[00:37:42] Being able to actually understand what the hell was going on. So uh, yeah, there's like this uh people live on mars

[00:37:48] Um, and there's like a private investigator with a sidekick

[00:37:52] And they go on missions to you know solve cases and one of them is that uh this

[00:37:59] Uh robot goes rogue

[00:38:01] Um, and there's a track down why and why this girl's missing

[00:38:05] And it's probably got some like the most interesting like character designs and production designs are like a futuristic setting

[00:38:13] That I've seen in years

[00:38:14] Like everything is so creative like her sidekick as a dude with a holographic head and a cyborg body

[00:38:20] Um, because he died like five years ago and so they just transplanted his consciousness into it. Um, there's like

[00:38:28] In the very beginning there's like a cat that I guess is a robot and you just peel the skin off and wash the fur

[00:38:34] Um, and there's like just dozens of robots that wander through there's like a robot rights thing going on in the background

[00:38:41] Like basically everyone

[00:38:43] There's like a big company that's trying to introduce organic

[00:38:46] Robots into the society

[00:38:49] So there's like a like a this weird squid thing in a jar that talks like everybody but it looks hideous

[00:38:55] Um, but it basically is a computer

[00:38:58] So it's just like this glob and like the new

[00:39:00] ear pods or like these

[00:39:02] Squid with tentacle things that you wrap around your ear instead of like, you know machines. So

[00:39:08] Um, yeah really creative stuff. Um like an interesting sci-fi

[00:39:12] thing

[00:39:14] And then the last thing I watched was tarot

[00:39:16] Hey, I thought too. Yeah, so was transition to you

[00:39:20] uh, yeah, I so on monday

[00:39:24] my

[00:39:25] buddy, uh, my kid had only

[00:39:28] Like three hours at school because they were doing testing

[00:39:32] So I picked him up and I wasn't going to take him to see fall guy

[00:39:36] With me, but he said he wanted to see tarot because

[00:39:40] the creature's

[00:39:42] Mine or the concept was by this artist. He likes called trevor Henderson

[00:39:46] He's the guy who does siren head and all this other shit. I don't even know my kid likes it

[00:39:51] So he knows that

[00:39:53] Yeah, so I said, okay. Well if you like siren head and stuff we can go see it

[00:39:59] And so i'm watching it and I go, you know, the characters are kind of cool

[00:40:04] but um, my review on letterbox is stupid dialogue stupid characters

[00:40:10] Monsters look cool stupid lame pg-13 horror that isn't scary

[00:40:14] um

[00:40:16] I I was never like, you know, there's no tension in the film for me

[00:40:21] um

[00:40:23] You know the creatures look cool

[00:40:25] um

[00:40:28] The magician part would be cool if the one girl why did she jump into the box?

[00:40:33] Like I don't understand what they're doing

[00:40:36] Yeah

[00:40:38] Anyways, uh, what did you think about it?

[00:40:41] I mean, I had a tough time in the second act because there was like a couple on it

[00:40:44] Uh, like just whispering constantly through the back. So I kind of checked out during the magician part

[00:40:51] Uh, but leading up to that. I kind of was like, uh, I'm kind of over this already because yeah, um

[00:40:58] There's like I don't think this

[00:41:00] It starts out with these like friends they go to a house and

[00:41:03] Um, they just how much money they have where they could airbnb a mansion

[00:41:07] Yeah, the airbnb being mansion, but then it has like a rundown like

[00:41:10] Creepy oddities basement and they just find the tarot cards and the girls like I probably shouldn't uh

[00:41:16] It's it's bad mojo for me to like read someone else's deck

[00:41:19] But I'll do it anyway

[00:41:20] Like yeah, fuck it

[00:41:22] And then I don't know why like it's cursed or like why the girl like there's only like these animations where it seems

[00:41:27] Like she was tortured at some point and so she cursed the deck and

[00:41:31] Yeah, and you know the trope they really need to get rid of that's been really prevalent in horror movies lately

[00:41:38] Is the old wise woman who knows everything? Yeah, and uh

[00:41:43] They go see this woman in the middle of the night if that was real life and some punk kid showed up my door

[00:41:48] Tell him to fuck off. Yeah

[00:41:51] And how do they always find them on the internet? I anyways

[00:41:55] yeah, um

[00:41:57] so

[00:41:58] And then I didn't understand the rules were stupid

[00:42:01] Uh the part with the fool I thought was really cool how they were setting it up

[00:42:06] But then the one kid just doesn't die because his other friend shows up

[00:42:10] Yeah, I go what?

[00:42:13] So you're not cursed because your other friends shows up. Okay. Well, I guess the rest of this movies just doesn't matter then

[00:42:18] Because even the boyfriend at the end why the fuck didn't he die?

[00:42:22] Yeah, the thing too is like usually in these movies

[00:42:24] They kind of set up that like yeah, the kids are a little shitty and they kind of deserve it

[00:42:28] To some extent

[00:42:29] But I felt like all those kids were perfectly pleasant and like didn't deserve any of the horrible things

[00:42:34] Like that has to do with weird. Yeah, like I couldn't get just pp13 horror. That is whatever

[00:42:41] My kid liked it. So I guess that's all that matters also like I don't know maybe I'm wrong but like

[00:42:47] The book is called like horror astrology or something

[00:42:50] And so I feel like they just like tied that to tarot because tarot was more like visually interesting

[00:42:54] But like wouldn't you make like if it because a lot of this movie is about astrology and not tarot

[00:43:00] And so you could do like a tour is like an evil bull or a mean crab or something like that would make

[00:43:07] So

[00:43:08] visually I looked it up because my kid loves

[00:43:11] Trevor Henderson the original name of this movie was horror scope

[00:43:15] Horror scope. Yeah, it was a book. Yeah

[00:43:18] Yeah, um

[00:43:20] So, yeah, it's it is what it is. I mean my kid liked it and I was reading

[00:43:25] On bloody disgusting that it's a good gateway horror film

[00:43:28] And I guess so I mean because if my nine-year-old kid thought it was creepy and it was cool

[00:43:32] Then I guess that's all that matters. Yeah, we're putting a hard audience for it like he probably is so

[00:43:38] Yeah, yeah, I always try, you know, because I like horror movies so much, but I'm always disappointed

[00:43:43] um

[00:43:45] Yeah, I just watched a few other things. Um, I did my two random movies and I got wild things

[00:43:50] Uh was the first one I got

[00:43:52] Which is that uh, Matt Dillon Kevin Bacon Denise Richard. It's a nev Campbell. Uh late 90s kind of erotic thriller thing

[00:44:01] um

[00:44:02] And it's a fun movie. Um, I wouldn't say it's like a great movie

[00:44:07] um

[00:44:08] But I got the aro

[00:44:10] Deluxe edition at Barnes and Oval when they had a half off sell

[00:44:14] So it's 20 bucks and it's beautifully made and the aro has great special features on it

[00:44:20] And even comes with I think the book is 100 pages

[00:44:24] Um about behind the scenes and interviews

[00:44:26] um

[00:44:27] And I mean the movie's fun. It's one of those late 90s kind of

[00:44:32] thriller mystery movies

[00:44:34] Um, I don't know if you've ever seen it. I haven't I mean I've heard a lot about it

[00:44:38] But yeah, I never watched it. Yeah, that's pretty infamous for Denise Richards being naked in it. Um

[00:44:44] I watched snow white in the seven dwarfs in 4k and

[00:44:48] Oh my god, it's beautiful. Um

[00:44:51] And it's a great movie always will be

[00:44:54] And uh after I saw tarot I dragged my kid to the amazing spider man

[00:44:59] um in the theater

[00:45:01] And it was fun is almost sold out and people were laughing and having fun with the movie

[00:45:06] And it's kind of cool to see those movies seem to have got a new life after no way home

[00:45:12] And people seem to appreciate them more now

[00:45:15] um

[00:45:16] So, yeah, that's what I watched this week

[00:45:20] Um next week we're seeing kingdom of the planet of the apes

[00:45:25] Which again, I think special effects look great. I'm kind of excited to see this one

[00:45:29] I liked the original uh the previous trilogy. I thought was really good

[00:45:33] So I'm really excited to see that
