[00:01:19] We are the Reel Nerds Podcast and every week we see a new movie
[00:01:24] and we podcast our experience of the world.
[00:01:26] Pretty much the greatest podcast that has ever existed.
[00:01:30] I am Ryan and I am joined by my friend of 20...
[00:01:36] ...5 years I think. Brad!
[00:01:40] You said you said choose.
[00:01:43] I said choose?
[00:01:44] Yeah.
[00:01:46] I was like we're so smart.
[00:01:51] That's the new choosing gum? Have you ever had the choose gum?
[00:01:54] No.
[00:01:55] No, instead of chewing.
[00:01:57] Oh.
[00:02:01] Hey Brad how are you?
[00:02:03] I'm tired.
[00:02:05] As you know, off air I've been...
[00:02:08] My storage unit raised my rent and I was like F that
[00:02:11] and then I went and got two separate smaller units for...
[00:02:15] Consertably less at the same place so I just was wheeling my stuff back and forth
[00:02:20] between these two units for the past few days.
[00:02:21] What a bunch of fucking idiots!
[00:02:24] Yeah it's just like oh thanks everybody for like making my unit in such demand
[00:02:29] that you pushed me out of it.
[00:02:32] It is weird. There's like a weirdness going around with rent and home prices and...
[00:02:39] Yeah screw it.
[00:02:40] I have everything for it.
[00:02:40] ...for willing to pay more for that size space.
[00:02:45] And then force me to meet it.
[00:02:46] Yeah.
[00:02:47] Like you'd think that their job is to fill the units and that's it.
[00:02:53] Like get 100% of these filled and I occupied that and paid on time
[00:02:58] for at two years, three years at this point.
[00:03:01] And now I can't because some other asshole is willing to pay $327 a month for it.
[00:03:08] Wow you think too they would like...
[00:03:11] I guess it is the least and they can raise the rent on it.
[00:03:14] Yeah it's month-to-month thing and who knows if that person's gonna...
[00:03:18] Whoever rents it next is gonna do it for as long as I did.
[00:03:21] You think they...
[00:03:22] Yeah they're taking...
[00:03:23] Yeah they're taking guaranteed money with the hope of making more money.
[00:03:27] Stepping over a dollar or make a dime.
[00:03:32] Yeah well it's weird too like the inflation stuff.
[00:03:36] I noticed they charge...
[00:03:38] It really worried...
[00:03:39] It's the most stuff you need like toothpaste and deodorants.
[00:03:44] That's like...
[00:03:46] I get old spice deodorant and it's like $7.50 now for a stick of deodorant.
[00:03:52] It's like Jesus, craminy monkeys.
[00:03:56] Yeah that's...
[00:03:58] If they want to save money I know some enormous unnecessary salaries they could take that money from but no...
[00:04:04] Why would they do that?
[00:04:05] They make me pay for it.
[00:04:06] Yeah but the solution is to not buy it.
[00:04:09] Like I know it's hard but there's alternatives and you just got to like look...
[00:04:15] Do the legwork and look for ways to not give already rich people your money.
[00:04:21] Yeah.
[00:04:23] You know old spice isn't the only option out there.
[00:04:26] It isn't but it smells the most pleasant to me.
[00:04:30] Until their parent company buys up the competition and then pretends they're not monopoly.
[00:04:36] Yeah right but that's called proctoring gamble.
[00:04:40] Anyway we see the movie and we podcast our experience to the world.
[00:04:45] This week we saw Sasquatch Sunset.
[00:04:48] Stay tuned where we'll recommend the film or not play the trailer and then spoil the movie.
[00:04:52] We usually do movie news but I'm going to change that this week.
[00:04:54] We're going to talk to our very own Bradley Hague who visited Wyoming for a Wyoming popcorn
[00:05:02] and we'll talk about his experience there and then we'll talk about movies we watched throughout the week.
[00:05:07] Cool.
[00:05:09] So Brad do you recommend Sasquatch Sunset?
[00:05:17] Only if you like just have a craving for something really weird
[00:05:20] and just want to sit in a vibe I guess.
[00:05:27] Otherwise I can't be like hey you should go see this.
[00:05:33] I'm in the same boat.
[00:05:36] Like I wouldn't say it's a bad movie but my review on Letterbox is literally this
[00:05:41] movie is fucking weird because like and you can't really recommend it because you're right.
[00:05:48] You have to be in the right mind frame I think and you know what I mean and it's hard for me to
[00:05:55] recommend this movie. I mean it's creative but I don't know here's the trailer for Sasquatch Sunset.
[00:07:45] I remember when I saw the trailer I did want to see the movie because this is the same guys that
[00:07:56] did with Army Knife Man right or Swiss Army Man. No. Now which ones where am I mixing them up who
[00:08:03] do they do? Zellner Brothers all I know is that they did like cheap YouTube versions of this and
[00:08:10] this is like the big budget version of it. Yeah did you go see that at the Alamo?
[00:08:17] Yeah yeah. Yeah the pre-show was all those YouTube things and then it was put together on
[00:08:24] with a bigger budget and stitched together. It's just bizarre. I mean the story literally is you
[00:08:31] follow this family of possibly the last Sasquatches ever for a full calendar year and how they survive
[00:08:41] in the wilderness and that's literally the premise of the movie and the whole movie.
[00:08:48] Yeah they're looking for other Sasquatches and it doesn't go well.
[00:08:54] Yeah and it has a kind of a deforestation vibe to it that we're basically cutting down their
[00:09:05] habitat and they're forced to get move closer to society.
[00:09:10] The alpha I think is his name. He just wants to fuck his woman Sasquatch
[00:09:22] and then they have a little son and then there's also the Jesse Eisenberg. I don't
[00:09:30] remember what his name is but he's kind of like the straggler along
[00:09:33] guy. And yeah that's what they do. I mean there's some really, I was hoping it was going to be funnier.
[00:09:45] I mean I laughed at parts that maybe you're not supposed to.
[00:09:48] I know I laughed at all the parts where they died.
[00:09:53] So there's a part in it where the alpha is like tripping on mushrooms and he decides
[00:10:00] yeah Ruffle Mountain Lion. A cougar. Yeah he doesn't come home and they find him and he's
[00:10:07] getting his insides eaten out by the cougar or the mountain lion and I laughed really hard when
[00:10:13] they were throwing rocks and that one hit his head and it caved in like a rubber mask.
[00:10:20] I mean I'm sure that's what they were going for but I was laughing.
[00:10:25] And then later the the tag along Sasquatch is just kind of like
[00:10:35] stepping along this log that's kind of dipped in the lake and then he trips and falls under it
[00:10:41] and I guess it rolls over his foot and he just can't move the log so it just slowly rolls him
[00:10:48] and pushes him underwater until he drowns. Then they throw their own shit at him.
[00:10:55] It's just bizarre. Yeah. And then he gives birth and stuff. Yeah she gives birth to a Sasquatch
[00:11:03] which also like I don't know I guess she rolls over on it during the night and like suffocates it.
[00:11:09] And it's just to revive it. Yeah. And at one point they find a man made road
[00:11:15] and they just like lose their shit and start shitting all over the road. Yeah.
[00:11:22] It's just bizarre and it's I don't know like I said yeah I couldn't recommend it because I don't
[00:11:30] I don't know like I guess people can see it because it's just so weird.
[00:11:36] But yeah it takes all the chances you kind of wish other movies took like the movie has no
[00:11:40] English dialogue it's all grunting. I forget what we just talked about where we appreciated that
[00:11:47] like it didn't oh yeah the Godzilla vs Kong. Yeah. And yeah you definitely know what's happening in
[00:11:54] the movie. I mean there's no I mean you're not told that their habitats being destroyed you're
[00:11:59] not told that they're the last of their kind and looking for them but you understand that's
[00:12:03] what they're doing. Yeah. Which is I mean it's a testament to the filmmakers and the actors.
[00:12:11] Oh yeah the Zellner brothers are from Greeley. Are they really? Yeah.
[00:12:17] Yeah maybe they didn't help too much of the manure up there.
[00:12:22] But you know you also appreciate them being weird and sticking with their weirdness.
[00:12:27] You know they definitely didn't give in to that this is a you know bigger budgeted movie.
[00:12:33] So we're not going to have a placenta thrown at a cougar so it eats it. So they don't attack.
[00:12:44] And I mean the movie literally ends with them going to the Willow Creek gift shop and just
[00:12:48] like grunting. I was wondering what the ending was because I literally fell asleep like right
[00:12:55] as they showed up to that shop. Yeah that's it they just go and then it ends. And they
[00:13:00] just stand next to on the wall like Jane sound Bob. Yeah. Okay so I guess I just I didn't miss that much.
[00:13:06] You didn't miss anything. Yeah and that's literally the movie. I don't know what else to talk about with
[00:13:11] a movie. Yeah there's no like important story arc that they just yeah this is tribe and it's like
[00:13:18] you're just watching a documentary of them just moving from one place across each season.
[00:13:23] Describing it yeah just like a documentary. I mean the makeup on this watch is fantastic.
[00:13:29] Yeah. I'm kind of hoping the ending was going to be the Sasquatch you know famous like video.
[00:13:36] Oh yeah that's how I would have ended it. Just one of them left walking through yeah
[00:13:41] at some like some human finds them yeah maybe they can't because maybe someone owns that.
[00:13:47] Oh maybe yeah you might be right. Yeah and the other funny parts like their dicks are like
[00:13:55] super like stringy and they're always exposed. Always like flapping. Yeah they get boner stuff when
[00:14:06] they usually yeah. Yeah the one had a huge boner when he was gonna fight the cougar. Yeah
[00:14:16] yeah pretty graphic stuff but yeah it's just weird. All right hey Brad this week I guess
[00:14:27] was still technically not been a week but you went to Laramie Wyoming. Yeah we were invited to
[00:14:35] the Wyoming pop culture con in Casper Wyoming and yeah I went there set up our little table and
[00:14:44] sat there for the weekend meeting people and it was at a abandoned Macy's.
[00:14:51] You had to go by the carpet. That does look like department store.
[00:14:55] Yeah like I thought it was cool you know I think other people go in and be like oh there's like
[00:15:00] stuff hanging from the ceiling exposed holes but it was cool because like you could go around like
[00:15:08] to the backside of things I guess there's a way to put it like there's all these rooms and
[00:15:13] entrances for merchandise and stuff and I had fun exploring that and yeah and that is a pretty
[00:15:20] say they seemed really nice. They kept on sending us really nice messages.
[00:15:25] Yeah I got there like at four in the morning and I still hadn't received a like what's the
[00:15:33] plan like where do I go so they're like you know we're coming here soon we'll be in touch and
[00:15:41] it's like you know it's okay like you don't have to like go now I'll just bum around Casper
[00:15:47] until like 9 a.m but yeah it was pretty quiet like at one point we had like three booth spaces
[00:15:57] available to us I was like that's such overkill that's crazy yeah and then typical like people
[00:16:06] around us fashion two booths didn't show up so I eventually did takeovers in spaces
[00:16:13] but yeah like I sat there and you know a couple people came by but
[00:16:21] there was like a celebrity zone which I guess what's his name Sean Weiss from the Mighty Ducks
[00:16:29] was there so I didn't know the guest list before I went so at one point I just stand at the
[00:16:35] table and this guy walks by he's like hey real nerds and then you like fist bump me
[00:16:39] and I was like I just thought he was like oh that's someone who's met us at Denver Comic Con or
[00:16:43] something and then you took off and after a while it was like I you know the image in my head I put
[00:16:47] together I was like oh that's the guy from Mighty Ducks and that's what you'd invite him on the show
[00:16:52] Brad yeah yeah I dabbled a little bit in our recording yeah I saw that you you I saw
[00:17:01] your guest on a podcast yeah there's a there's two other podcasts there one of which was
[00:17:07] Three Wheel Bicycle Podcast where they just you know hang out and talk about stuff and
[00:17:13] they came up to me on day two and invited me to uh they wanted to do a thing on our show so I was
[00:17:21] like you're the first person an only person who's offered to do a recording so let's do it and then
[00:17:29] yeah I went over to theirs afterwards and it was a fun time we just yes talked about
[00:17:34] movies and stuff and got to know each other and
[00:17:40] yeah there was a one person who actually came by and bought merch so Michelle I like to thank your
[00:17:50] friend that you bought for for peeing fans of the show for buying a glass and a star wars shirt
[00:17:56] nice so well you did a good job the picture you had a nice setup going
[00:18:01] thanks yeah I just saw our merch out and you know some mics to give the illusion of what we do so
[00:18:09] well I appreciate you putting the vibe out yeah it's uh this I wish when we were younger we'd
[00:18:16] had more of a chance to like go to outside of Colorado to like share our stuff and other comments
[00:18:23] but yeah I mean we got invited it's not that far away it's like a four hour drive
[00:18:28] so yeah I mean next time if it's you know we know soon enough I can or late early enough I guess I
[00:18:35] can try to squeeze it in yeah the organizers like this last year it was in shoot I forget what it is
[00:18:42] but like this Macy's thing was a huge upgrade and it was pretty successful it wasn't like
[00:18:48] fan expo traffic but well that's also why only it was also cool like you could go into the
[00:18:54] mall to go get like food and stuff oh that is cool yeah it was a mall that has like a best buy
[00:19:00] and a target attached like the mills does really like like the best buy is also attached like the
[00:19:07] target is there um oh that's the best buy that pops up when I'm looking for a steel book
[00:19:12] it's the only one in Casper oh I guess so uh when I was there they had no
[00:19:18] blue rain media so that's never happening again
[00:19:21] fuckers yeah it's also like a smaller that's buy it's a kind of the same stuff but like a really
[00:19:28] smaller space obviously it's a mall but um yeah it was cool like yeah to be able to like not run out
[00:19:35] and get gouged for 20 bucks on food yeah for one piece of pizza that's not even that good
[00:19:40] yeah just trying to target and grab something it's like oh this is so convenient
[00:19:44] yeah and also that's the thing with sorry go ahead they had a pretzel stand there which they made it
[00:19:51] fresh and I was like oh my god sweet yeah like I'm used to getting like I don't know weeks old
[00:19:58] refrigerated pretzels from movie theater and I literally got like the first batch they cooked
[00:20:04] right in front of me it was it was amazing like a fresh pretzel so it's like pretzel day for the
[00:20:08] office exactly you're like family all like I don't want to be a part of this you know not paying
[00:20:16] attention but then the pretzel day yeah it was it's like I was just tasting and being like oh I don't
[00:20:22] think I've ever had a pretzel before this just tastes amazing um it wasn't like that gooey like
[00:20:28] stick to your teeth chewy either it was like just great bread oh nice yeah so whatever pretzel
[00:20:37] stand at the mall in Wyoming they're do a top notch you know totally worth like a seven dollar
[00:20:43] pretzel hell yeah um yeah and the other cool thing I did while I was up there is that they have two
[00:20:49] movie theaters one next to the mall and then one across town and uh they're called the studio
[00:20:55] city theaters they're basically like alamo draft houses uh except one of them has a thing called
[00:21:01] plus a rq which is a recreation of the cooper theater they used to be on color
[00:21:08] boulevard the cindorama theater they used to be on color color boulevard yeah um so it's like this
[00:21:13] curved super long screen oh and then uh like this really retro look and that was super cool to sit
[00:21:23] in and watch I had to rewatch uh ministry of generally warfare but still um yeah I like to have
[00:21:31] this experience right yeah it's about the experience like I orchestrated a bunch of things to get
[00:21:37] there on time um and in that theater um and uh yeah there's a bunch of memorabilia like in the
[00:21:43] halls like leading into the auditorium with like uh programs and like lenses from the projectors
[00:21:51] and uh you know like old timey like roman holiday like whatever pamphlet you get when you sit down
[00:21:58] and stuff and like photographs and articles and stuff like yeah it was it was cool so it was cool
[00:22:03] another thing to do while you're in casper is to check out one of those theaters I didn't get to
[00:22:07] the other one but yeah the one the one I went to had the the special cooper recreation and
[00:22:14] yeah it's not a lot of theaters in Wyoming and they've got two of them you think shayana
[00:22:20] didn't have more but they have they have one one real I think they're a college in casper
[00:22:26] oh maybe or is it larry me that has the college I don't know that's Wyoming yeah
[00:22:34] and I guess the last film really thing is uh on the last day I kind of dipped out of the con
[00:22:38] early because I was like what's really gonna happen with me sitting here for like the next three
[00:22:44] hours till they close so I was like you know I could do in three hours is drive up to uh devil's
[00:22:48] tower yeah pretend I'm in close encounters of the third kind and uh I didn't see this as a kid so
[00:22:56] yeah re-energizing that memory was pretty cool and I uh stayed a little too long trying to catch a
[00:23:01] sunset photo that didn't happen so it's a little perilous coming back in the dark um but yeah it's
[00:23:11] cool time there's a beautiful area up there yeah it's gorgeous like just walking the trail
[00:23:16] in that area because you know um southern Wyoming is not pretty at all but the further you go north
[00:23:23] the better it gets yeah yeah I mean when I drove up there I drove I went from the room on Friday here
[00:23:32] straight up to Wyoming wow so it was just dark the whole time I saw was road and it was raining
[00:23:40] okay and then yeah then I was in Casper and then from Casper to devil's tower was kind of like
[00:23:48] some nice landscapes I guess but yeah then back back from there uh down to Cheyenne it's just
[00:23:54] darkness again so didn't see a lot of it yeah got what Wyoming is so yeah hopefully next year
[00:24:01] we can all do it and have an adventure of our own awesome we watch movies throughout the week at a
[00:24:11] segment I call what we've been watching so uh yeah this is just stuff we've been watching
[00:24:19] Brad what'd you watch this week a couple things um don't forget we gotta put a
[00:24:25] Corinne's uh later showtime in here too sweet we'll do that right now no hey nerds Corinne here
[00:24:32] for another installment of Showtime where I tell you all about something cool I've been watching
[00:24:35] lately this week I'm gonna give you a rundown of some anime that I watched um because you know
[00:24:41] why not also I'll throw in some quick notes about the bad batch because I am on the hype
[00:24:47] trade okay I've just we've got two more episodes and I'm I'm I'm all here I'm all in I'm
[00:24:52] like let's go baby let's go um uh so I was just at Jerry's he and I kind of had like an anime night
[00:25:00] he's like here's some anime that you've like never seen you should you should watch them they're
[00:25:04] classics and I was like okay this is stuff from 80s 90s like very early days of Toonami I guess
[00:25:11] that's like how he watched it and I'm like I wasn't probably watching Toonami until like I don't
[00:25:16] know maybe like 01 02 maybe something around there but yeah so these these Toonami anime were
[00:25:25] before my time so we watched a couple of episodes of Outlaw Star it was pretty good um I maybe continue
[00:25:32] watching it um interesting premise cast was fine I guess like they were really kind of starting
[00:25:39] to kick off the main plot when we left them it's about outlaws in space basically of you
[00:25:46] know they're trying to find like this big treasure or something so yeah I think he and I have talked
[00:25:50] about it before when I did like some kind of one of my anime posts for the real nerds website
[00:25:55] so yeah I guess check it out if you want I think it's on Hulu um then we also watched
[00:26:00] the first episode of Big O which uh is a Steve Blum uh dub voice uh he he voices the main
[00:26:07] character in the English dub so that was fun I'm always a big fan of Steve Blum
[00:26:13] I mean he's like very well known for Spike Spiegel in uh Cabaret Beat Bop I actually know him for
[00:26:20] a lot of other stuff mostly Wolf's Reign Naruto I mean he's been in pretty much everything like
[00:26:26] you name an anime or anything like he's probably been in it like shit he was in a episode of The
[00:26:31] Bad Batch a couple weeks ago it's just like as a background character too not even like a big
[00:26:35] player but I was just like oh Steve Blum like I just I couldn't just you know I was the
[00:26:40] like the Leo meme I was like hey there he is like I recognize him um so yeah so it was cool
[00:26:47] um I could actually this is something Jerry pointed out to me as well but um there are several
[00:26:52] aspects of the animation that really remind me of Batman the animated series and I guess this is
[00:26:59] I think those was like late 90s early 2000s that this came out
[00:27:03] and it's kind of like this Bruce Wayne sort of character that's who Steve Blum plays um
[00:27:09] and he lives in this city that's just like crawling with crime and he he's not like a vigilante per se
[00:27:17] but he's more like a negotiator so his job is to like you know I guess sort of keep the piece
[00:27:24] and he has access to this giant robot called Big O which he he calls up out of the ground
[00:27:32] in the middle of the city and like destroys the whole city black doing it and I was like oh
[00:27:36] I'm sure the police and the you know all the infrastructure people are gonna be really happy
[00:27:40] about that golly I hope that building was abandoned because you just had a giant robot come up out of
[00:27:46] the city block but okay um but now it was fun and I could have sworn that Jerry showed me an
[00:27:52] episode of it before out of order it wasn't like the one we watched it was a different one
[00:27:59] so now I'm like did I get gas led or something like I have to watch the rest of the show
[00:28:05] just so I can find out like was that the show that I watched this episode of because I was trying to
[00:28:09] give him like basic plot details of like I'm pretty sure like he went to this little like small town
[00:28:14] there was something about like a like an electric plant or blah blah and he's like oh no no no
[00:28:18] and so now I'm trying to find out like was this big O or did I just make this up was this
[00:28:23] some other show that he showed me like a one-off episode of anyway um finally we watched
[00:28:30] the first two episodes of God forgive me Robo Tech 1985 I don't remember what it's like some kind of
[00:28:38] saga or whatever and I was like oh golly like the animation was so bad and the voice acting was
[00:28:44] really bad and if it was just one or the other like I might have been able to get past it but
[00:28:49] it was both and I kept bitching about it and Jerry's like but it's 1985 and I'm like Disney
[00:28:56] and and um I care at an acarotoriyama um getting all my Japanese guys mixed up um but hi yomi
[00:29:04] is like you like they were all doing stuff in 1985 and it didn't look nearly this bad
[00:29:09] but I understand like it's it's a very involved show there's a lot of like flying robots and
[00:29:14] fighting and shit so I know they were probably doing the best with what they had and of course
[00:29:20] dubbing at that time was probably like garbage so I'm not gonna hold it against the the
[00:29:25] dub crew because you know I I'm an early to Nami early uh WB kids like line up like I watched Yu-Gi-Oh
[00:29:35] when it was censored by four kids so like I get it I get it you just gotta work with what you got but
[00:29:41] um I don't know Jerry really praised it he's like oh it's like one of the best it's like a
[00:29:46] classic anime taught me so much about like science or whatever and I'm like that's great but I don't
[00:29:51] have to watch it so I'm I told him I was like of the three we watched I would go back and I would
[00:29:56] I would watch the rest of big O or at least like a few more episodes just to really kind of get a
[00:30:02] feel for it because we only watched the one of big O we watched three of Outlaw star and I might
[00:30:10] continue it but yeah I'm like no sorry I don't feel compelled to watch any more Robo tech
[00:30:16] whatsoever so anyway those are the ones we watch so I gotta tell you about one more anime
[00:30:22] and then I'll get into bad batch um so this weekend we had the spy family movie release in
[00:30:29] theaters in the United States oh my gosh I've been waiting for this since like before Christmas
[00:30:35] because that's when it came out in Japan and made I don't know like 20 million dollars
[00:30:39] something I don't know it did well over there it's come out in other countries more recently
[00:30:44] but I think of course America's always the last one to get it so frustrating um but it was it was
[00:30:52] awesome um so this is spy family it's based on the existing anime uh also based on a manga but
[00:31:02] the premise is that there's this family of well three people plus a dog and they all have like
[00:31:09] some big secret that they're hiding from each other um you know one of them is a spy one of
[00:31:14] them is an assassin one of them is a telepath one of them can see the future and they're all
[00:31:20] trying to keep their secret identities powers hidden from each other um and it's just like
[00:31:28] the comedy rates itself but there is like some drama in there so obviously like I highly recommend
[00:31:34] the anime I love the anime I've been following the manga too um it's kind of slow right now but
[00:31:40] we might be ramping up to something here but anyway um so the movie and I know the nerds are
[00:31:47] gonna not like me for this but I'm like the nerds do not understand how anime movies work
[00:31:53] because this was a discussion I was trying to have with them during the episode 600 special
[00:31:57] where Brad had to watch the Inuyasha movies and he's like oh so the Inuyasha movie too is
[00:32:02] like a sequel to the first movie but I didn't see the first movie and I'm like you don't need to know
[00:32:07] jack shit about the first movie this is like a spin-off of the show and it's not like really canon
[00:32:15] it's never going to be addressed again you know you don't need to know anything about
[00:32:19] you just need to if anything no kind of like the basic characters premise I mean they try
[00:32:27] to fill you in as much as they can and that's what they did in the spy family movie you know
[00:32:31] they kind of give you like a rundown of like okay like the father's the spy and the mom is the assassin
[00:32:36] and all this stuff and of course they're on opposite sides and they don't know it and they're trying
[00:32:41] to keep their identities a secret from each other and all this and so they give you some background
[00:32:47] because they're trying to bring new people in and get people excited about the show and like
[00:32:52] wanting to watch the show so but they're also like trying to cater to existing fans and
[00:32:59] you know kind of give them like a fun one-off adventure and that's the point of these anime
[00:33:03] movies the bulk of the time I won't say all the time because there are some exceptions but
[00:33:09] they're very very few and far between and even like with Dragon Ball Super the two big anime
[00:33:15] movies that they had where they ultimately ended up bringing those plot points into the show
[00:33:21] what they did is they just redid them for the show like they took the same plot points from
[00:33:27] the movie and then made episodes about them for the Dragon Ball Super TV show so yeah it's kind of
[00:33:35] frustrating as an anime fan like whenever a movie of your favorite franchise comes out because you're
[00:33:41] like so like this isn't gonna play into the plot at all but it's just kind of like a fun
[00:33:47] one-off kind of like an alternate universe sort of thing like don't think of this as being
[00:33:52] canon think of this as just being kind of like yeah like a alternate universe like a what-if
[00:33:58] kind of scenario like yeah what if the family took a pointless vacation to some other part of the
[00:34:04] country to go and taste this dessert that's like super expensive and exotic and then along the
[00:34:13] way like the daughter gets kidnapped by the army like it's kind of ridiculous but again that's
[00:34:19] kind of why we're here because we like we like how ridiculous and how you know can meet like again
[00:34:25] the comedy writes itself with just some of the scenarios that they come up with and everybody's
[00:34:29] doing like mental gymnastics to try to like figure out like oh what are they why are they acting
[00:34:34] this way and oh it can't be because she knows I must buy or she can't be like oh he's cheating on me
[00:34:39] and all this so um yeah there are a couple of gags I guess my biggest problem with the movie was
[00:34:46] there is a plot point that involves the daughter who's like four or five years old
[00:34:51] having to poop because she swallowed this like highly classified intel that was like disguised as
[00:34:58] a chocolate so she accidentally eats it finds out oh like it's like a big deal and everybody's
[00:35:03] after this information so there's a whole plot point of these guys like waiting around for her
[00:35:07] to poop and it's like a little awkward there is a funny joke in there of how they oh my god
[00:35:14] she goes into this like imaginary scenario of like yeah I can't explain it it's just really funny but
[00:35:20] it is a little awkward that i'm like we're sitting here in a movie theater watching a child trying
[00:35:27] not to poop it just it's like it's a little awkward little awkward but um nah it was a great time
[00:35:35] like the animation stellar I saw it in the dub first actually I usually go subs first but
[00:35:41] um yeah I saw it in the dub casted a great job I mean just yeah it it looks it sounds amazing
[00:35:50] another small gripe I had was the music in the movie they they used these two songs very heavily
[00:35:56] in the advertising they were like these songs are going to be in the movie and then they were
[00:36:00] both like in the credits and I was like what the fuck like you could have at least used one
[00:36:03] of them in the climax like that would have fit perfectly and I'm I'm a big fan of those
[00:36:08] songs now because I've been listening to them for months so yeah anyway I've rambled about all of
[00:36:14] this long enough but yeah I'll just quickly wrap up if you're at all interested I recommend spy
[00:36:20] family uh again the movie Code White is in the theaters right now where it was as of this recording
[00:36:28] and then also you can watch the anime I think it's on like Hulu crunchy roll if you have either
[00:36:33] those so yeah check it out it's fantastic great action great drama um a lot of like poignant heartfelt
[00:36:41] moments in there but also just like a ton of comedy like it really hits just about every genre and I
[00:36:46] really don't see how anybody could not like it because it's got a little bit of something for
[00:36:51] everybody and I mean I've tried to get Ryan to watch it because I'm like there's this whole arc
[00:36:56] with your on a cruise ship where she's just like murdering people left and right and I was like
[00:37:00] oh Ryan would love this because you know how he loves all the blood and gore and shit so
[00:37:06] hello I'll just miss out but yeah and yeah it was the final thoughts on the bad batch
[00:37:12] I'm so excited I'm just like all in like let's go tonight tomorrow night is the
[00:37:19] penultimate episode and then after that it's the finale and we're done and I'm
[00:37:24] I'm not ready to say goodbye to these characters but I do need to see how this ends because
[00:37:28] I'm just like these weekly drops are killing me so I haven't watched a show all the way through
[00:37:39] like live and waited for you know the finale and everything and um the most recent example was
[00:37:45] Ted Lasso and that didn't go well if you know me then you know not to bring up Ted Lasso around
[00:37:51] me anymore because I just so bad batch you got you gotta help me out here you gotta redeem yourself
[00:37:58] because this is I need like a good series finale after the terrible taste that Ted Lasso left in my
[00:38:04] mouth so anyway I'll leave you all with that and uh hope you all have a great time and
[00:38:11] keep it real nerds bye thanks Corinne yeah thanks Corinne yeah uh yeah back to what I was watching
[00:38:19] yeah more more importantly um I saw the people's Joker
[00:38:26] that looked interesting have you been following that yeah yeah uh got pulled from the festival
[00:38:33] circuit once uh WB became hip to it and uh now it's back out doing an actual theatrical run
[00:38:42] has had a lawyer consult with and uh assured that this is the thing you can do
[00:38:47] and uh yeah it's interesting um I can't say I enjoyed the movie but I appreciate that it exists and that
[00:38:58] the filmmaker achieved it um it's entirely on a green screen um and it's kind of like a YouTube
[00:39:06] essay on queer identity um uh using the characters from DC Comics to like relate that
[00:39:16] so it's a lot of just so they I'm sorry do they treat it as a parody then is that how they're
[00:39:20] able to get away with it I guess it's the parody of like I wouldn't say it's a DC movie but it's
[00:39:26] almost like seeing your friends just kind of cosplay and then telling another story hmm so
[00:39:33] yeah like if your friends
[00:39:38] pretended to be like the Joker or the penguin and they all hung out but they're not really
[00:39:42] doing a DC story that makes sense they're not making a Batman movie um
[00:39:49] they're just kind of wearing the costumes of it um and then for some strange reason
[00:39:55] like Lord Michaels is the villain it's almost like they uh
[00:39:59] cried out for SNL and they got rejected and this is like a revenge movie for that
[00:40:04] is it real Lord Michaels or just a playing it's a fake Michael playing him okay yeah they have
[00:40:10] some like CGI like some like low polygon CGI version of Lord Michaels um and it's almost like a Tim and
[00:40:19] Eric sense of humor which makes sense because like Tim Heidecker is in the movie I think is the news guy
[00:40:28] but like the director has worked with those people and those programs from adult swim and stuff so
[00:40:35] a lot of this movie feels like yeah like all that on a green screen um but yeah just uh
[00:40:41] just kind of like talking to the talking to the audience and just explaining their experiences
[00:40:46] a as a queer person and the trials and tribulations of all that um so I like I I appreciate the
[00:40:57] effort but like as a movie going experience it's like okay I'm like I'm not the audience for this
[00:41:05] yeah I heard a lot of interesting things about it I'm not the target audience for this yeah so
[00:41:11] but yeah like as a like a narrative it's like not that interesting um there's an expression of you
[00:41:19] know art I appreciate it got it true uh and then the next thing I saw was Boy Kills World
[00:41:27] which is also out of theaters that one kind of flipped under the radar
[00:41:32] yeah uh for a reason it's uh it's a weird one like the action is awesome but
[00:41:41] it feels like at the 11th hour some producer was like the main character doesn't talk because
[00:41:48] he's a mute so how like I don't trust the audience to get what he's thinking so please put a
[00:41:55] voiceover on it and then they did a voiceover with John Benjamin from Bobsburgers and Aquatine
[00:42:05] and he narrates every single freaking thought possible um and it's just so lame to listen to
[00:42:16] like I've said they're going like there's a better version of this movie where like I love
[00:42:21] that guy but it's just doesn't doesn't mesh well with this like at one point they even try to explain
[00:42:27] it away like I'm talking in this super cool voice because that's how I think of myself um and like
[00:42:35] visually it's just not reading the same way gotcha um and yeah it's about this uh kind of monkey
[00:42:43] band this uh guy uh his family's killed and uh Pham Kjansson's the villain like she runs this society
[00:42:52] and there's like a purge day where she like just picks a bunch of random middle classes and just
[00:42:57] executes them in public for her amusement yeah just come on wood yeah and I guess later you
[00:43:03] find out she's like mentally ill but like okay like um and all of her blackies don't step up to
[00:43:11] stop her um let's go along with it and there's like a tv show that they do it on too but anyway
[00:43:15] he hit Bill Skarsgard his family gets executed and he becomes an orphan and somehow survives I'm not
[00:43:20] sure how he survived uh but then he gets trained by this uh guy who lives in the wild um and then
[00:43:28] trains is trained on his revenge mission and then eventually goes back to the city to try and
[00:43:32] mow down as many people as he can uh Charlton Copely is like one of the like
[00:43:38] the gosh like the husband of Pham Kjansson's daughter um he's like the first to go down
[00:43:48] um then uh Brett Gellman is uh another like is one of her sons who's like disenchanted
[00:43:58] and is willing to like burn everything down and helps him at one point but also like saves his
[00:44:03] own ass um and there's like this one really cool assassin on uh her side that has like this mask that
[00:44:13] has a like a like a eyepiece that like uh types out words and stuff that she says
[00:44:20] um and there was a twist at the end of like who she is um but yeah basically he just mows
[00:44:26] through a bunch of people on his way to the top to get her and that doesn't go so well
[00:44:33] but yeah I mean I like just reading the cast I like Jessica Roth a lot
[00:44:39] who's that she's cool uh she's in uh happy death day and stuff oh she's probably the assassin person
[00:44:45] yeah but uh yeah it was just like if it wasn't for that voice so that's just silly silly voice over
[00:44:53] um it would probably be better but like the action's good but and there's a lot of it
[00:44:58] it's pretty much non-stop killing uh and the last thing I saw was uh challengers which uh I was like
[00:45:05] I don't want to see that and I ended up doing it anyway because I ran out of a piece of watch
[00:45:10] so and uh yeah that's interesting it wasn't like I love this it was more like wow they're like
[00:45:16] really making an epic movie out of like a really simple story um about these two guys who are
[00:45:22] uh head over heels for Zendaya's character tennis player who gets injured and then picks one of them
[00:45:29] and uh probably the coolest parts is the cinematography and the time jumps
[00:45:33] so they got kind of go back and forth in time to explain like how this feud happened but also at
[00:45:39] the whole time I'm just like guys there's other girls out there like you don't have to like
[00:45:43] settle for just her you know you have to fight over this one chick so yeah would you watch
[00:45:50] um I just watched a couple things I um I'm doing still doing that random uh movies of movies I own
[00:46:00] that I haven't watched uh so I rewatched a Gretel and Hansel which is one of the last movies we saw
[00:46:07] before coronavirus pandemic shut everything down yeah and I still feel the same way about it it
[00:46:13] looks cool the story is interesting but it moves kind of slow and yeah I mean it's
[00:46:20] it's an interesting movie um I don't know if it's a straight telling of Hansel and Gretel because I
[00:46:26] don't really I mean the only thing I know is that Hansel and Gretel like go to witch's house and eat
[00:46:31] food and she tries to cook them this one kind of uh explores it in a different way
[00:46:37] in the original fairy tale they get cooked and that's the end of it right yeah I believe so um
[00:46:43] yeah because you know the Grimm's fairy tales were fucked up man um but yeah it's still I mean
[00:46:48] it still looks great the woman who plays the witch is really good in it um I like Osgood Perkins
[00:46:56] I think he makes interesting films I think that's the board queen from first contact uh yeah right it
[00:47:03] is yeah um and she's great in first contact um I also uh so I went to twist and shout on
[00:47:11] record store day because there's a faith is Rod Stewart album that was only available on record
[00:47:16] store day and when I got there it was sold out and I was pissed um so I went over to the Blu-ray section
[00:47:24] and they've gotten in a lot of I think some like some guy died and slowly traded in his vinegar
[00:47:29] syndrome um stuff so I picked this random one that had a really cool slip cover and the
[00:47:37] slip cover didn't have any description of what the movie was it's called Alley Cat and the
[00:47:42] slip cover is like some woman like standing I guess on stairs or something I don't know
[00:47:49] have you seen this it's uh like I was flipping through prime it was on prime and I like I
[00:47:54] bookmarked it for later but I've never actually watched it so um so in this movie this woman um
[00:48:03] I forget her name I'll look it up real fast anyways at the very beginning of the movie
[00:48:08] um her name is Billy and there's these like punk guys that are trying to steal the tires
[00:48:16] off a really cool car and so she hears them and her grandpa says hey Billy uh they're trying
[00:48:23] to steal your car's tires and she says wait here Gramps and she walks in and she takes off her
[00:48:29] shirt so there's nudity no joke like a minute into this movie and um so she goes out there
[00:48:36] and then she just starts like using karate and kicking the shit out of these guys
[00:48:41] nice yeah then they run off and tell their boss and they're like oh we're gonna make her pay
[00:48:48] and then like the next night or a couple nights later I don't know which one it is uh her grandparents
[00:48:54] are walking home and they see them and they stab her grandma to death and so then she goes on this
[00:49:01] revenge um thing not just for like the guys that killed her grandparents but she jogs a lot
[00:49:10] and the first night she jogs uh the one guys who try to steal the tires off her car are trying
[00:49:16] to rape this woman in the park so there's more nudity and then she kicks their asses
[00:49:21] but when the cops show up to when they call them they arrest her because she has a gun in the
[00:49:27] park not the guys that try to rape this girl so um then she teams up with the rookie cop is just
[00:49:34] trying to do good and there's more karate and her more her like kicking the shit out of guys
[00:49:40] now it's a really fun movie um but also know that it's a vinegar syndrome movie
[00:49:47] or released so the acting is kind of all over the place um and it's not like the highest quality but
[00:49:57] it's still fun um and like there's this really weird part where they go meet their boss and of
[00:50:03] course there's a naked chick there and uh before the scene ends the chick he's sleeping with
[00:50:09] he's really mean to her throughout the scene and then she pokes her head out of the bathroom
[00:50:13] and she says you got it and he's like what the fuck you talking about she says the clap in the scene and
[00:50:24] it's like I don't know how to describe it it's just like this woman who knows how to do karate
[00:50:29] kicks a shit out of people um that are being raped or trying to rape her um yeah and like
[00:50:38] the special features are really cool the slip cover is really sweet it's like really uh
[00:50:42] sturdy cardboard and it you actually pull the movie out from underneath so it wraps all the way around
[00:50:49] it's pretty fucking cool um yeah I love the vinegar syndrome like boxes like they have yeah very like
[00:50:57] minimalist art and like the the actual quality of the paper is like so like so good yeah so it's
[00:51:03] like a fun movie and I got it it was like $22 and um when I got home I looked it up on amazon
[00:51:09] and it's so limited edition it's selling on amazon for like 70 so um yeah it's it was fun I mean
[00:51:18] you know there's always the caveat of its vinegar syndrome so it's a little goofy but
[00:51:23] as long as you're willing to accept that you're good to go and uh the last thing I watched was
[00:51:29] stunt rock which I got from you know Lorber's fail um and it the movie is literally this
[00:51:37] Australian stunt guy who just does crazy stunts throughout the movie with this band that plays
[00:51:45] like kind of not great hard rock music throughout it um did you watch it yet brad yeah I watched it
[00:51:52] like I fell asleep watching it um and I haven't been in a huge rush to revisit it but yeah it's
[00:51:57] literally just stunts and like rock music yeah it's fun like it's I had fun watching it and
[00:52:05] but there's no real um like it's literally what I just said is the story um there's some funny moments
[00:52:12] like when he gets a really bad concussion and they won't let him out of the hospital and then he
[00:52:16] just climbs out the window and climbs down and jumps into some ladies convertible and takes off
[00:52:24] but yeah it's a fun movie um and the stunts are pretty cool in it um that one I thought was
[00:52:31] crazy was at the very beginning where he's shot like an arrow like holy shit what is this guy doing
[00:52:38] um yeah that's what I watched this week I imagine uh the fall guy is gonna deliver the
[00:52:46] missing narrative that stunt rock didn't uh about a tale of a stunt guy yeah yeah you know what brad
[00:52:53] that is a great transition our movie next week is the fall guy starting the one and only Emily
[00:52:59] Blunt um did you see B of some butt head showed up on the red carpet for that I did that was awesome
[00:53:06] he went and talked to Emily Blunt great it's like I don't know your work at all like
[00:53:12] they just come down but we're not yeah go ahead my favorite still is I've heard rumblings
[00:53:19] still don't know who this B miss and uh yeah the red carpet that was funny
[00:53:24] yeah I just love how it's transcended it's become its own like entity now
