[00:02:30] How long have we been doing it this way? Maybe two years now? Yeah, we kind of shortened the episodes and I mean we used to go long and I literally had a memory on Facebook today talk about how things and I went off about 50 shades darker and the episode was Logan.
[00:02:53] You know, you never know what you're going to get from us in the old days now we're a little more structured and I don't know if it's better but who knows.
[00:03:05] Hey, Colin right in tell us if it's better or not. We don't know. We haven't got a lot of mail for the past three or four years.
[00:03:14] I know, but just weird. I know people still listening because I get like comments every once in a while.
[00:03:19] I don't know if there's a way we can make it more interactive. I don't know. Hey email us to make it more interactive.
[00:03:27] Yeah. How am I doing our own thing? We've been doing it for like 12 years but yeah, maybe nice to know for you. Maybe a little feedback on a red and the right direction or not.
[00:03:38] Yeah, because you know me I always like to change things up. I keep waiting for you to change our logo to pink and blue but you haven't done it yet.
[00:03:46] For that movie from a year ago. Yeah, that's timely. No, I just like I just like how it looked like the pink and blue.
[00:03:53] Oh, we're having a baby. Yeah, exactly. I'm always looking to stay fresh. We've had red for two years now. I want something new, Brad.
[00:04:04] I want you to blow my mind. God, the red and white one wasn't enough. No, I need I need you to think of something that's cool that are watch it pins aren't cool enough.
[00:04:17] They are make it make it purple and white. I don't care. I just like to see new things. I like to see I like it because hey, you seriously designed a new thing for our show like once a month.
[00:04:29] So, you know we can add a new color to the background of our logo. Should I just make like a file that has our logo against each and every color that exists? Yeah, yeah, then just send it to me and I get a pick.
[00:04:44] Alright. I just like how the pink that you put for film lotion, I just have this like pop to it. You know it's unique. I mean, how many like people walk around with a pink logo?
[00:04:59] I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I
[00:05:29] don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I didn't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Drew is not in my presence. That the crap doesn't work well. All right .
[00:05:34] I don't know. Quit me. Don't quit me. Don't quit me. Don't quit me. Don't quit me . Don't quit me. Don't quit you are all misty. because I don't know. They're hate the Luke Hutting is hip stepping out. They're hate the Luke Hutting is hip step out of giving the Luke Hutting and hard asleep to guys because they were cutting out with pictures
[00:05:40] that could come out with an instructive look. They're stingING our their하시는bbedowns. They were acne rand playgrounds came out or people were hurt. They've beenHappy for the entire week but they were protecting the relationship that were hurting more and we're hitting.
[00:05:44] I don't know.
[00:05:45] And then we did the French Dispatch the week after, so.
[00:05:48] Yeah.
[00:05:49] So you're like,
[00:05:51] dude looks stupid.
[00:05:52] I hate the trailer and the excuse you're like,
[00:05:54] we're watching Halloween
[00:05:55] and that French Dispatch and then Soho.
[00:05:59] Yeah.
[00:05:59] I mean, sometimes things pop up.
[00:06:01] So yeah, now we're rectifying.
[00:06:03] We're gonna give it some attention.
[00:06:07] Speaking of which, he Brad,
[00:06:10] do you recommend Dune 2021?
[00:06:14] Uh, yeah.
[00:06:16] It's a pretty film.
[00:06:20] Story wise, I wasn't terribly engaged.
[00:06:26] Gorgeous to look at, but very familiar story.
[00:06:32] And it's kind of like,
[00:06:34] I don't know, it feels like just two scenes.
[00:06:39] Yeah, like it wouldn't take place.
[00:06:40] Like there's an assault and then there's like an exodus
[00:06:43] and that's the movie.
[00:06:45] So yeah, it's a gorgeous film
[00:06:47] and you can, yeah, check it out if you want.
[00:06:55] Funny story is I watched it for the first time
[00:06:59] two weeks ago.
[00:07:02] I got the 4K man, either a Black Friday
[00:07:08] or some sort of sale.
[00:07:09] I definitely did not pay full price for it.
[00:07:13] Not because I don't think the movie's worth it.
[00:07:14] It's just, I hadn't seen it and so I did,
[00:07:17] you know, want to spend $35 on it
[00:07:20] and eventually it dropped to like $11.
[00:07:25] So yeah, I think the movie's pretty good.
[00:07:29] You're right, it's beautiful.
[00:07:30] It has a cool political thing going on with it.
[00:07:35] Yeah, I had fun watching it.
[00:07:37] Here's the trailer for Dune 2021.
[00:07:42] The Replant in Iraqis is so beautiful when the Sun is low.
[00:07:53] Wolling over the sands, you can see spice in the air
[00:07:58] the outsiders ravaged our lands in front of our eyes.
[00:08:01] our eyes.
[00:08:10] Their cruelty to my people is all life now.
[00:08:17] What's to become of our world?
[00:08:20] Paul.
[00:08:25] A more!
[00:08:27] Don't get it. Can I trust you something?
[00:08:29] Yes, always you know that.
[00:08:31] I've been having dreams.
[00:08:33] A little girl, a little rakeous.
[00:08:36] A little rude it means.
[00:08:38] Dreams make good stories.
[00:08:40] And everything important happens when we're awake.
[00:08:43] Yeah, but not some muscle?
[00:08:44] I do.
[00:08:45] No.
[00:08:48] We are house to tradeies.
[00:08:49] There is no call. We do not answer.
[00:08:52] There is no faith that we betray.
[00:08:56] Smile, gurney.
[00:08:57] The Emperor asks us to bring peace to a rakeous.
[00:09:02] House to tradeies, accept!
[00:09:07] I know you.
[00:09:09] There's only a way for you in my mind.
[00:09:14] You need to face your fears.
[00:09:19] Come with me.
[00:09:23] You need to be ready.
[00:09:25] You've never met her again.
[00:09:26] It's before you're not human to brutal.
[00:09:30] It's Duke's son who sees too much.
[00:09:34] This is why you kill them all.
[00:09:40] God in heaven.
[00:09:43] Get everything with guns off the ground! Go!
[00:09:48] This is the extermination.
[00:09:51] They're picking my family off one by one.
[00:09:55] Let's fight back demons.
[00:10:04] Dad, I wonder if I'm not the future of house to tradeies?
[00:10:11] A great man doesn't seek to lead. He's called to him.
[00:10:17] But if your answer is no,
[00:10:20] there'll still be the only thing I ever needed you to be.
[00:10:25] My son.
[00:10:28] If anything happens,
[00:10:32] we'll protect Paul with my life.
[00:10:42] Only together please stand in chance.
[00:10:45] It's time.
[00:11:07] So, Brad, did you have your opinion original?
[00:11:09] 1984?
[00:11:11] I was like, I'm going to finally pop in the 1984 Dune.
[00:11:16] I could not finish it.
[00:11:19] Yeah, it's not good.
[00:11:23] In 1984 terms,
[00:11:28] not terrible, I guess.
[00:11:31] Very similar. It gets a vibe of trying to jump on the Star Wars bandwagon.
[00:11:36] I think the Jedi came out the year before it.
[00:11:40] Yeah, but the acting isn't very good.
[00:11:43] And the special effects are not very good.
[00:11:48] Hey, spoiler, film closure in 1984 is going to be out
[00:11:53] in the next month or so.
[00:11:56] Stay tuned if you're favorite film.
[00:11:59] I think he's four years of cool.
[00:12:01] There'll be a fun one.
[00:12:03] Anyways, back to Dune 2021.
[00:12:06] You're right. You kind of touched on it and we're introducing it.
[00:12:09] It's this world in the universe has this thing called Spice,
[00:12:15] which is the all-powerful mineral.
[00:12:19] I mean, I guess they really don't know what it's kind of a mcguffin.
[00:12:21] I really don't know what it does.
[00:12:23] I looked it up. It hours the transportation so that people can go to plan it to plan it really fast,
[00:12:29] which when I was watching June 2,
[00:12:31] I was like, wait, the other movie took place on another one.
[00:12:33] I thought everything just took place on a racquet's the whole time.
[00:12:37] And yeah, there was like when I rewatched this one,
[00:12:40] I was like, oh, there was like a planetary jump that I just totally forgot about.
[00:12:46] Yeah, so they go to a racquet because they negotiated some sort of piece deal.
[00:12:52] Podamarin and Luke Skywalker.
[00:12:56] I mean, let oh and his son Paul.
[00:12:59] The names and it kind of make me laugh
[00:13:01] because I don't know if it's because I'm used to Star Wars where it's, you know,
[00:13:05] you know, you know, Obi-Wan or Han Solo.
[00:13:08] Here it's Paul and Donjans.
[00:13:11] And Jessica.
[00:13:13] Yeah.
[00:13:15] I mean, it's fine. I mean, there are people's names.
[00:13:18] I just always expect them to be more fantastical.
[00:13:21] I guess inside by.
[00:13:23] But even Star Wars like Luke is like Lucas. That's not too far out in Ben, you know.
[00:13:27] Yeah.
[00:13:28] Yeah. I guess.
[00:13:30] I never thought about it.
[00:13:32] But yeah, so they go to a racquet's two.
[00:13:36] Broker this piece deal and be able to harvest the spice.
[00:13:41] While they're harvesting the spice, they have to contend with the giant sandworm
[00:13:46] that listen to the vibrations in, I guess, the spice fields.
[00:13:50] I don't know what you would call it, the spice dunes.
[00:13:53] Yeah, the dunes, I guess.
[00:13:54] Yeah.
[00:13:56] Well, I guess that's the name of the movie maybe.
[00:13:58] Well, the, maybe I'm on to something.
[00:14:00] The Fremen name for a racquet's is Dune.
[00:14:03] See, see, that's what you're around.
[00:14:06] You remember things I don't.
[00:14:08] I don't feel like I should remember that much.
[00:14:11] Like why do I know that?
[00:14:13] Yeah.
[00:14:15] Anyway, so, um,
[00:14:18] leto is portrayed by a guy who is in the emperor.
[00:14:24] Yeah.
[00:14:26] Who's the guy who betrays them now?
[00:14:28] The emperor betrays them, but there's a guy in his inner circle that does it.
[00:14:31] Yeah, I've got his name, but he's like his lead scientist or something.
[00:14:34] The Harcone and kidnapped his wife and daughter.
[00:14:37] So he betrays, um, leto, you know, expecting to get them back.
[00:14:42] And exchange for handing him over.
[00:14:44] And then, um, obviously like that guy's an idiot because of course the harcone just kills him.
[00:14:50] It's like, oh, you can rejoin them.
[00:14:51] Yeah, inhale.
[00:14:53] Inhale.
[00:14:54] Inhale.
[00:14:56] Um, but it's cool like they have that like a shield thing and there's always like
[00:15:02] flying dragonfly parasites flying around that like that's pretty scary that
[00:15:07] you know, they'd sneak around and like all of a sudden they're on your back or something.
[00:15:12] Yeah, I was, I mean the movie looks cool and the,
[00:15:15] you know, the political intrigue where they're, you know, betrayed and things like that.
[00:15:24] I mean it plays well.
[00:15:27] And the so Paul and his mom are taking off while this the price attacked by the emperor is happening.
[00:15:37] And they're not killed because the
[00:15:42] the, the, the, what is it?
[00:15:45] I can't, sometimes I can't keep the people straight.
[00:15:48] The, um, lady people are with the badger.
[00:15:53] Yeah, they could, they'd be able to read that they killed them and I guess you're not supposed to do that.
[00:15:58] The Jedi.
[00:16:00] Yeah.
[00:16:01] And so they're dumped out in the wasteland.
[00:16:04] They take up with the
[00:16:07] Bremen.
[00:16:09] Thank you.
[00:16:10] And, um, yeah, they, they save them but he has to prove himself by fighting one of them to the death, which he does.
[00:16:21] And the Fremen are very skeptical of
[00:16:26] Caledinians, I guess that's
[00:16:29] what they are because they've been oppressed by the emperor and the hardconants for so long.
[00:16:35] And so yeah, they, he has to prove himself.
[00:16:37] And, uh,
[00:16:39] Yeah, so he does and we meet, um, then day of
[00:16:44] I can't remember characters names.
[00:16:48] Johnny.
[00:16:50] Johnny, which I think is a character that Kristen Wigg played on Saturday live.
[00:16:58] And so they kind of take them under their wing and, um,
[00:17:02] that's where the movie pretty much ends.
[00:17:07] Um, which I thought this movie, the first book was split into two parts but I guess it's the first two novels.
[00:17:16] Um, wait, this one movie is two novels?
[00:17:20] Yeah, because if I, let me double check if I remember reading it right.
[00:17:26] But yeah, um, but you know, we touched on it. It looks cool. I mean,
[00:17:33] Deneav Villanue, you, um,
[00:17:37] he always makes really cool look at movies.
[00:17:40] Yeah, I read something where he's like, he chairs very little about the dialogue and more about just telling the movie through visuals.
[00:17:48] So he's got that on lock.
[00:17:50] Yeah, he, I mean, he does that really cool, um, kind of
[00:17:56] silhouetted foreground with colors in the background.
[00:18:00] Yeah, it looks great.
[00:18:02] Like, even the special effects just, uh, everything looks like it holds up.
[00:18:07] There's no like, I couldn't, I couldn't point to any like bad CGI.
[00:18:12] Yeah, like it's up to look really solid.
[00:18:15] It looks great and, um,
[00:18:18] like there's no on, on a candy valley effects, I think in the movie.
[00:18:22] No, even, um, you get a good sense that, you know, the worms is pretty cool.
[00:18:29] Um, it has a
[00:18:33] very big sense of, uh, of grandeur and how big and powerful the, um,
[00:18:41] the worm is.
[00:18:43] It has a similar vibe to Star Wars.
[00:18:45] Yeah, I was reading something else too that, um, uh, Frank Herbert, you know,
[00:18:51] when Star Wars came out, he was like this close to suing and like, I don't blame him.
[00:18:56] Like there's just, there's a, Lucas took a lot of this and just like tweaked it just a little bit.
[00:19:02] Um, for a lot of these things because yeah, and like, you know, growing up in film school,
[00:19:08] your top of like Star Wars is based on, you know, the hero's journey.
[00:19:13] Uh, you know, the Chris Vogler book.
[00:19:16] Um, and like, uh, well, a lot of movies are based on that, that structure.
[00:19:20] Um, but yeah, the fact that this book came out like,
[00:19:24] a couple years before Star Wars and everything, so like, yeah, the template is very much there,
[00:19:30] even just like, kind of character naming and, um, style and, yeah,
[00:19:38] like the fact that there's this like Jedi Council and they're trying to train a boy
[00:19:45] and they live on the sand planet and, uh, yeah, it's just, uh, what else?
[00:19:54] So, um, this is a lot, as I'm reading this, water brothers,
[00:19:59] uh, did split the first book up into two much like it's, which they also produced.
[00:20:06] So, so that would mean that the first book is June one and part two.
[00:20:11] Yes.
[00:20:12] So it's flipped, so they made two movies out of one book.
[00:20:16] Correct.
[00:20:17] Gotcha.
[00:20:19] Um, yeah.
[00:20:21] That makes more sense.
[00:20:23] Yeah.
[00:20:24] I can't imagine like one book was just like, you meet Paula Trades and then they're like,
[00:20:28] uh, they settle on a rackus and then like it ends in the book.
[00:20:32] Yeah.
[00:20:33] Uh, you know, it does take a while to get to some of the action in this movie.
[00:20:37] Um, it does feel very deliberate in its pace.
[00:20:41] Yeah, we're watching it like it's that whole assault thing wasn't as long as I remember.
[00:20:48] Like it's maybe five minutes.
[00:20:49] Yeah.
[00:20:50] Of the movie.
[00:20:52] My memory, it felt like it was like a third of it, but yeah, it's pretty brief.
[00:20:56] Because yeah, a lot of the movie is just, uh, you know, they, they,
[00:20:59] they, the hard cones get banished from the planet.
[00:21:03] Uh, let oh comes in.
[00:21:05] They kind of get acclimated to have a spice production goes and then all of a sudden yeah.
[00:21:11] Uh, the emperor sends in there like secret elite force.
[00:21:16] Which are, you know, interested white like stormtroopers.
[00:21:20] Um, and then, uh, yeah, lay waste to the place and then yeah, Jessica and Paul get a escape to the,
[00:21:27] so the dunes and then meet the fremen and that's it.
[00:21:31] Yeah, and it, it, it's not a bad way to leave a film on a cliffhanger because it doesn't feel,
[00:21:38] I mean, it still feels like it tells a whole story but you want to see what happens next.
[00:21:44] Definitely, like it's a great cliffhanger because I remember the first time I was like, this is the movie.
[00:21:49] Now it's starting.
[00:21:51] Now I'm interested in then.
[00:21:54] Yeah.
[00:21:56] Uh, so you're interested Brad.
[00:21:59] So let's fast forward for three years in the future when 2024.
[00:22:07] Wow.
[00:22:09] Everything's so cool.
[00:22:12] Flying cars.
[00:22:16] Do you recommend Dune Part 2?
[00:22:21] Yeah, it's, uh, it's again, it's another like,
[00:22:25] really well-made, gorgeous looking movie.
[00:22:29] But similar situation the story just not that interesting for me.
[00:22:34] A lot of the runtime was sitting there going like when something significant gonna happen,
[00:22:40] like we're meeting a lot of people, we're doing a lot of training and montages.
[00:22:44] Like where is this like, where is this?
[00:22:47] That's where you should just like light in Team America's montage and any montage and movies anymore.
[00:22:55] Um, yeah, it was kind of like, okay.
[00:22:58] Whereas overall, like just like what's the story happening here? You know, everything I'm looking at is like I've seen this.
[00:23:05] I saw this in Empire Strikes Back.
[00:23:08] Let's, uh, let's move this along.
[00:23:11] How about you?
[00:23:13] Uh, I actually really liked this one.
[00:23:15] Did you see this in a premium format?
[00:23:17] No, I saw it the square.
[00:23:18] Um, when I saw it at the big show and they were doing the, um,
[00:23:25] learning how to ride the sandworms.
[00:23:28] The whole theater was like shaking. It was pretty awesome.
[00:23:32] Yeah, I really liked this one.
[00:23:34] I liked the, uh, intrigue behind it.
[00:23:39] Um, I thought there was a couple shocking character moments in the movie.
[00:23:44] Um, and so yeah, I really enjoyed it.
[00:23:48] Here's a trailer for Doom Part 2.
[00:23:52] Oh, it's okay.
[00:23:55] I'm here. I'm here.
[00:23:58] It's been a while since you've had one of those nightmares.
[00:24:01] Tell me, who was it about?
[00:24:05] It's only fragments.
[00:24:11] Nothing's clear.
[00:24:15] You've been fighting the Oregonians for decades.
[00:24:18] No!
[00:24:22] My family's been fighting them for centuries.
[00:24:25] Your blood comes from dukes, then great houses.
[00:24:30] Here are equal.
[00:24:34] What we do, we do for the benefit of all.
[00:24:38] I'm not very much like to be equal to you.
[00:24:41] Maybe I'll show you the way.
[00:24:45] The way you do it.
[00:24:49] The way you do it.
[00:24:51] Deal with this process.
[00:24:54] Send the summons.
[00:24:56] Hey, Dorothy, he's psychotic.
[00:25:06] Is he possible futures all at once?
[00:25:10] And in so many futures, our enemies personnel.
[00:25:14] I do see a way.
[00:25:16] There is a narrow way through.
[00:25:32] I'll eat it.
[00:25:34] This to you, do you believe me?
[00:25:37] This is a form of power that our world has not yet seen.
[00:25:42] The ultimate power.
[00:25:44] The ultimate power.
[00:25:48] I want you to know, I will love you as long as I breathe.
[00:25:53] You'll never lose me as long as you stay or you are.
[00:25:56] Consider what you're about to do before the trade is over.
[00:26:05] This prophecy is how they enslave us!
[00:26:07] You are not prepared for what is to come.
[00:26:28] So we're picking up where the first part of Dune ends and Paul is trying to build up the trust.
[00:26:38] And we're going to build up the trust.
[00:26:43] And we're going to build up the trust.
[00:26:46] With the Tarquatins and...
[00:26:49] What?
[00:26:51] That's a mortal combat reference.
[00:26:54] The people that live on the plains and sands in world combat.
[00:26:57] Anyways, that joke would kill in a mortal combat chat room.
[00:27:03] Oh, that's laid me fatality!
[00:27:05] That's what I wanted to do.
[00:27:08] It was, you know, outworld and...
[00:27:11] Anyways, so he has to...
[00:27:14] He wants to prove himself and a Havier Bardowns character who I always forget their names because they're weird.
[00:27:22] He believes that Paul is the chosen one.
[00:27:24] He's more of his.
[00:27:26] Yeah, or, you know, Anakin, and...
[00:27:31] And so he believes all these prophecies and Chani
[00:27:35] doesn't. They're the non-believers. I guess they're the kind of the atheist of
[00:27:41] their group. They're the Gen Z fremen.
[00:27:44] Yeah, we don't need your traditions. That's awesome.
[00:27:49] So Paul is humble and he wants to prove himself
[00:27:55] and he does multiple times whether it's in combat or
[00:27:59] writing the sandworms and pretty easily too. Like he never really stumbles at doing anything.
[00:28:06] No, he does a freaking superhero. We'd rather get he's just a pro at everything.
[00:28:12] You know, we learned that his mom is pregnant too with the daughter
[00:28:18] and his mother is able to kind of have like a
[00:28:24] psychic ability or tell it's a pathic I guess.
[00:28:28] Force powers, yes. Yes.
[00:28:32] She joins part of the old cold of like they seem like witches to me. I don't know.
[00:28:40] Yeah, the fremen want to kill her because she's kind of useless otherwise.
[00:28:44] So they're okay. We give you a choice not really a choice. You can either die
[00:28:48] or you can become one of our like sacred mothers or something. I think it's the name.
[00:28:54] Yeah, a revered mother. Yeah, Reverend mother.
[00:28:57] Yeah, Reverend mother. There we go. We ended on it.
[00:29:00] So she's like, I guess I'll take the life one.
[00:29:05] She's a true kind of like shit.
[00:29:08] Her character in this because she plays up Paul from behind the scenes.
[00:29:15] Where she lends credence to his ascension to a higher power basically.
[00:29:23] And she prays on the not as well educated people and she uses them
[00:29:30] to help prop up her son's propaganda.
[00:29:33] And they start believing the hype.
[00:29:39] I know what a wild fairy tale that would never happen in real life.
[00:29:43] I know right. Where did that come from?
[00:29:46] And when he does this, you know,
[00:29:51] Paul says to
[00:29:54] Shawnee where they start building a relationship and they fall in love
[00:29:58] and he says, you know, I'll never betray you or who I am.
[00:30:02] As long as I breathe, I will always love you.
[00:30:05] Yeah, but he starts playing the long game here
[00:30:09] and for how he feels his family was wrong.
[00:30:14] And he literally basically tells her to go pound sand
[00:30:21] and he embraces this savior attitude or I guess persona
[00:30:29] and he leads the rebellion against the emperor.
[00:30:34] And yet, that's like the big difference between this and Star Wars is that
[00:30:39] the hero is actually out for revenge.
[00:30:43] Yeah, and I get it. I mean if someone killed my dad and my family and took everything I had
[00:30:47] I'd be pretty fucking pissed too.
[00:30:48] Yeah, I do think he's like, he actually does love her but
[00:30:53] get revenge is more important to him. So he's like, I can't tell you that I'm playing this right now
[00:30:58] but so that sucks, but that's what I'm doing is like I'm playing all sides to attain evil.
[00:31:06] And you know, that last scene where he fights Austin Butler
[00:31:13] where he tells her no matter what happens, I'll always love you
[00:31:16] and then he turns right around and says, I'll marry your daughter
[00:31:20] if you, you know, to Christopher Walken the real architect behind
[00:31:25] the killing of his father. Yeah, it's this extra flex because like not only does it make him
[00:31:30] kisses ring but he's like I'm going to take your daughter too. Yeah, I'm going to boner.
[00:31:34] I'm going to boner so hard. Yeah.
[00:31:38] So I also like imagine too because he knows that the Benadges are it could probably read his thoughts
[00:31:44] like he can't sit there and be like, you know by the way, Chani, I'm just doing this so that
[00:31:48] you know, this is my plan. You like he just can't articulate any of that.
[00:31:52] Yeah, you know, I will say that send day is really good in these moments
[00:31:58] because she's able to convey without saying a word heartbreak and anger towards him
[00:32:04] and even Timothy Chamolay I think is really great at having that rage about how
[00:32:13] they've wronged his family and he's going to fucking take him out no matter what.
[00:32:18] Yeah, and again this movie is beautiful. I thought there's a really cool choice with
[00:32:28] I don't remember awesome Butler's character's name but he's like some crazy
[00:32:32] Hannibal guy. Yeah, Faye Chan. He's like the cousin of
[00:32:38] the Harkonans. There are no whatever that black and white scene was shot so cool.
[00:32:45] Yeah, when they would go out to like the eclipse and it would flip what was white and black,
[00:32:52] I thought it looked incredible. Yeah, it was cool that he was. That was interesting that
[00:33:02] normally those arena tournaments are like all the opponents are like drugged and so they know
[00:33:10] they're going to win. So I'm like, I don't know why it seems like a tradition to do that so I
[00:33:16] know why everyone's like super excited about it and I was surprised that he surprised when one of
[00:33:20] them is not drugged and he actually knows he's such a badass that I'm just surprised he was like
[00:33:27] I almost died there like we actually worried because like as a supreme fighter you shouldn't be
[00:33:35] worried. He's really good in the movie too. He imitated Dylan's Garz-Gard's voice really well
[00:33:42] um to sound like him. Yeah, I don't know like nothing against uh like I didn't think
[00:33:47] the character was actually that interesting. No like the performance is good but
[00:33:52] I don't know people are talking about like this groundbreaking thing and like he's barely in it
[00:33:56] and when he does like I don't know I just didn't see him being all that weird or
[00:34:01] you know the like there were a lot of comparisons being made to like uh heath ledger and the dark night
[00:34:07] or something. Oh no no no I don't get that I just yeah I was like I don't see that like it's
[00:34:12] it's a good performance but I was like yeah that's what I mean like the performance is good I mean
[00:34:16] the character as a whole. Yeah the characters is not as like yeah. Doesn't have the depth of
[00:34:21] the Joker you know heath ledger's Joker is not only as a character fun
[00:34:26] but what makes him so interesting is he plays all angle and he his end game is to turn the people
[00:34:38] of Gotham against the heroes which he does. Yeah he's got a cool plan to go along with it. Exactly
[00:34:45] because he even says you know I don't care about the money you know what's money it's
[00:34:51] and you know Gotham Butler like I said he sounds just like Stellan's Gargoyle which sounds awesome
[00:34:56] but his motivation at the end of days he wants to kill people. Yeah this wasn't that
[00:35:01] it's not very dimensional. Yeah and then yeah he has that night fight at the end and it's
[00:35:08] cool and choreographed but like it wasn't like this awesome fight you know to me. Yeah I agree
[00:35:13] it like the only cool part is that it mirrors the training fight that um
[00:35:18] Roland and Chalamet do in the first movie because that's how uh Roland wins that fight
[00:35:25] so yeah Paul just does the same thing there but yeah it was a fight. Yeah you know I'm always
[00:35:32] surprised you know I never thought I would like Timothy Chamolay as much as I do but he does
[00:35:38] pretty good job of commanding from having night Chamolay. Yeah um you know because he's I think
[00:35:45] he's really fun in Wonka and then to see him kind of play a more conflicted character I thought
[00:35:53] he was really good at. Yeah I've crossed the board like I think everyone's like turning in like great
[00:36:00] great stuff. Oh yeah everyone's pretty great in that movie. And yeah like between
[00:36:04] French Dispatch and Wonka and this like yeah definitely not a flash in the pan actor he's got the
[00:36:10] chops for sure. And it's really heartbreaking when you do see him like 180 and like oh okay he's
[00:36:16] getting embraced the you know his father's legacy and probably um I don't know I haven't read
[00:36:24] the books but every since I'm getting about what happens next because there's clearly there's
[00:36:29] got to be a third one right? Yeah I heard the the book though that comes next called Dune Messiah
[00:36:36] it's not good. Yeah it's the it's the dark night thing he's either
[00:36:42] die here or you see yourself become the villain and then yeah or live long enough become the villain
[00:36:47] and so yeah it sounds like um his whole Messiah complex is going to go horribly horribly wrong
[00:36:53] um and then uh what's her name? Anishaylor Joy like there's this when he drinks like the worm piss
[00:37:02] uh he sees uh you know her in some dream montage or whatever
[00:37:09] that's that's his sister right? Yeah by the way I gathered which I was like oh so like return
[00:37:15] to the Jedi this uh early meets is we're gonna find out that she's his sister yes yeah okay
[00:37:26] yeah that's what I mean but I gathered and I mean I guess they have to have another one I mean
[00:37:29] that's kind of a super small part for an actress that accomplished as her yeah just filling
[00:37:36] for that yeah both of you have threatened obviously I read a bunch of stuff where Danny
[00:37:42] Villanuev didn't want to do the third one because he's kind of like a little burnt out on these so
[00:37:48] I don't know. Well it'll be interesting because how's such a visual language that
[00:37:55] um yeah I can't imagine like because even if you get someone else to do it they're not gonna like
[00:38:02] copy what he did like even though that's what the audience would want to see is like just a consistent
[00:38:07] production design and like actors and everything but like as an artist you can't just like ape
[00:38:12] everything that the other guy did. I'm gonna have a way around flavor on it so if someone else does
[00:38:17] it it's gonna like in subtle ways just have a different feel to it um and a lot of that you know the
[00:38:24] look and move comes from Greg Frazier so yeah I don't know if like you get him back or he'll come
[00:38:30] back without Danny Villanuev like if you get someone else to lens it it's gonna look different so
[00:38:37] yeah I know you do I mean obviously they're probably gonna make another one it's
[00:38:41] I mean making tons of money so yeah yeah figure out a way to keep that team together because
[00:38:48] yeah that's that's like another three years out. Yeah cool yeah those are the two dude movies
[00:38:56] hey did you know Corinne sent us a thing about Dune? I didn't let's hear it. Cool. Hey nerds
[00:39:03] it's Corinne here so sort of a special showtime today um not able to join the nerds for the recording
[00:39:09] but I wanted to send my thoughts in about Dune I know you guys are gonna do like a Dune double
[00:39:14] header part one and part two in the same episode I haven't seen part one in a while I remember
[00:39:19] really liking it of course I was the only nerd who had it on my film explosion uh was that 21
[00:39:25] list um yeah I really enjoyed it and I remember watching it with my dad probably like a year ago now
[00:39:31] and it you know even on this small screen like it still looks really good um so yeah I'm kind
[00:39:38] of kicking myself I didn't go see like a re-screening of it before part two came out but um honestly
[00:39:44] yeah part two is amazing I saw it a week ago with Jerry so I don't remember everything about it
[00:39:50] right now but it was really well made fantastic in terms of cast and acting the effects the the
[00:39:59] pacing I have a few tiny problems with it and there are a couple of things that I'm like
[00:40:05] huh um that um you know but it sounds like I've never read the books I'll say that but just from
[00:40:13] what I know of the people who have they really enjoyed this movie for the most part maybe there's
[00:40:18] some out there who are purists and they hated it but um no that was a really good movie I'm I definitely
[00:40:25] want to see it again and I've been checking the local theater for that you know availability
[00:40:32] in the iMac screenings and it's just been packed even on like Wednesday night at like 4.30 it
[00:40:38] was pretty full and I was like dang it like I want to get like the good spot I don't want to have
[00:40:43] to be like all the way in the front or all the way on the side like I want to be you know middle of
[00:40:46] the theater and um you know hopefully it can get some some more friends to see it with me but um yeah
[00:40:52] I had a great time seeing it um kicking myself because uh the way it worked out with Jerry and I
[00:40:58] going to the screening the Thursday night it came out um we had to go to uh just a regular screening
[00:41:06] just because of the timing and uh yeah kicking myself I didn't see it in the iMacs first but I
[00:41:12] I definitely want to and like I said I've been looking and I'm telling you know like all the iMac
[00:41:17] screenings they're not like most of them are borderline sold out at least like on the weekends or
[00:41:21] like lady evenings but yeah even like the midday showings are packed so anyway it's definitely
[00:41:28] definitely we're seen in the theaters like if you haven't seen it yet some people I I heard
[00:41:33] reviewers saying like you don't even need to see part one and I'm like I kind of think you do um
[00:41:39] it definitely gives you way more context for what's going on like they kind of give you like
[00:41:44] a backstory to kind of help fill in like everything that happened um I do think that at least
[00:41:51] this movie can stand alone on its own you don't have to have seen part one for part two to pay off
[00:41:58] it does kind of tell a self-contained story obviously if you've seen part one it hits harder
[00:42:03] when you see part two but I mean yeah like I said like part two is kind of its own movie um in a way
[00:42:10] and I mean if you want to watch him back to back I mean you can you can do whatever you want um I
[00:42:15] thought part one on its own was really great and I think part two on its own is also really great
[00:42:20] and if I ever watch them you know in one long sitting I'm sure they will be amazing but um
[00:42:25] we're not there yet and uh yeah don't know what else to say about it yeah I love the I love the cast
[00:42:31] I love seeing all these behind-the-scenes stories coming out um with like the set photos um the different
[00:42:38] effects that they did and of course all the memes about it I love all the memes but um yeah
[00:42:43] June part two great movie um I think it's going to be one of the kind of standard bears of the cinema
[00:42:50] year you know um I don't know what else is coming out this year that I'm that I was super excited
[00:42:57] for this movie and other than like some niche anime things there's nothing else coming out later
[00:43:02] this year that I was that I am similarly excited for um maybe some stuff with the end of the year
[00:43:09] I don't remember what all is coming out but yeah like June absolutely seen in the theaters totally
[00:43:15] worth it oh my gosh the black and white sequence on its own was like worth the price of admission
[00:43:21] and yeah anyway I'm sure the Ryan and Brad and and Zach if he's on you know they're
[00:43:29] praising it and it definitely deserves all the praise um like I said I have some tiny like
[00:43:34] nitpicky things that I can really you know get into if I if you really wanted me to but I'm not
[00:43:40] gonna because you know this movie is an A plus and uh can't wait to see it in the theaters again so
[00:43:47] all right those are my thoughts guys uh hope you all have fun uh with whatever else you're doing
[00:43:53] and I'll talk to you guys next time with something bye thanks Karin I know she really loves these movies um
[00:44:00] she was excited for it uh I don't know if he read the books yeah I don't know but he's that you
[00:44:05] know he looked our worst so I can see why she you know gravitate towards these films
[00:44:11] I really just has a huge crush on Christopher walkin I don't know probably yes
[00:44:17] mean don't we all right on so that's fun yeah that's like he said they are they're quality
[00:44:26] movies for sure and you should check them both out um but just yet they're not like
[00:44:31] movies I love you know the stories is not there for me yeah I mean I'll watch them again um yeah
[00:44:36] I'll watch the other one I want to know this goes yeah I guess I'm still more of a Star Wars guy
[00:44:44] yeah the Star Wars ones are more fun yeah yeah this concept but yeah this is the big news
[00:44:53] story of the week it's real news so somebody um that I mean is it really a big deal but I'd
[00:45:11] never really connected with me is uh the passing of a Kara Toriyama who created Dragon Ball
[00:45:20] which I mean did you ever watch that show back I did uh back in the early 2000s um
[00:45:29] everyone else was loved it I was kind of like so they're just gonna yell at each other for like
[00:45:35] 30 minutes and and maybe fight uh three episodes from now um
[00:45:42] this little bit stretched out for me so I never really could get into it
[00:45:47] yeah but he I mean he's still influential but he'd also developed some super Nintendo games uh
[00:45:53] Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest series um which again I played them they were I was never really a big
[00:46:02] turn-based RPG fan but they were beautiful games and he I mean his characters are so iconic
[00:46:09] that it is a pretty big deal that you know he passed away I mean again even though
[00:46:14] it's not my cup of tea I mean he's incredibly influential in that medium oh for sure totally
[00:46:22] like yeah iconic like Dragon Ball alone it's just a huge franchise I think it's that like
[00:46:29] I don't know five or six different series is this is um but yeah the also Chrono Triggers
[00:46:35] like a classic SNES game oh that's always yeah I'm like talk about being one of the best
[00:46:42] yeah so definitely an iconic person so it's always the bummer he passed away really young he was only
[00:46:50] 68 um yeah but you know it I mean I don't like I said I've never watched a Dragon Ball series
[00:46:59] and I know Corinne always is you need to watch this you should watch Dragon Ball
[00:47:04] the super superhero or however it goes um which according to his um thing in variety was the last
[00:47:14] um thing he worked on but I mean I could pick out Goku out of anywhere um and I always remember when
[00:47:24] we worked at game stop that Dragon Ball Z game for PlayStation 1 yeah um that was the one
[00:47:30] when it came in was always that like Holy Grail and we always when it came in very rarely but I
[00:47:36] remember we put it behind the counter had to be in the locked cabinet yeah highly sought after game
[00:47:42] like how much what you remember how much it was like $130 wasn't it was it I thought it got
[00:47:48] 80 but yeah I mean not surprisingly yeah yeah I just always remember I because I remember I was
[00:47:54] working one time and it came in and um because I think we gave $80 store credit for it yeah um
[00:48:03] I know the employees wanted it oh yeah as soon as it came in it if an employee didn't want it
[00:48:10] you know I let everybody in on a secret when we worked at game stop or game crazy when a game came
[00:48:16] in we wanted it never made it out onto the floor there was a drawer right underneath the register we
[00:48:22] put it in and a lot of them sat there for like I don't know a year before we actually bought them
[00:48:28] yeah I know you're a dick um because I did that with all the original mega man there remember some
[00:48:33] guy brought him in and I put him right in that drawer so yeah that's what you need to know if you
[00:48:40] if you ever go to game stop and you're wondering why it's always you know mad and footballs and
[00:48:46] you know games that come out every year the stuff they usually have used is because half-folds like us
[00:48:52] let the good stuff go out on the floor yeah that's one of the perks of uh being the middleman
[00:49:00] yep the only perk for working at game stop but they don't even really like really deal like classic
[00:49:05] stuff anymore that much so meh like no yeah like if I guess if you're into modern games like
[00:49:15] I'm sure they still do that for that but I don't know there's nothing out there
[00:49:20] until they get back into like level seven is more my jam now oh yeah my guy I went there
[00:49:25] the fried toji first time a couple weeks ago it was really fun and but I have been playing um
[00:49:32] through from our RPG on the switch it's been really fun yeah um
[00:49:37] the game exactly the same but they kind of incorporated the Zelda
[00:49:43] um length awakening style to it where they kind of look like Lego guys
[00:49:50] or not Lego what's the thing I'm thinking of um
[00:49:55] yeah this goes like little like cartoon plastic toy things
[00:49:59] yes like those that's all shaded
[00:50:02] yeah it looks wonderful and the game still really fun
[00:50:06] so um definitely pick it up and I uh I did get the Mario Donkey Kong too
[00:50:12] I'm excited to play that I love that game on the DS um and really cool too uh later this month
[00:50:19] that princess peach game comes out which is the first one sent super princess peach which was
[00:50:25] a really underrated game for the three ds so I'm I'm excited to play yeah I just uh re-upped my
[00:50:30] an intent on online subscription so it was a bunch of like uh s64 and like Game Boy
[00:50:36] uh advanced and uh games that are yeah I missed during that era that I get to play now
[00:50:43] yeah it's fun yeah and cool Nintendo has developers uh hey we watch film throughout the week
[00:50:51] and it's like when I call what we've been watching
[00:50:55] so uh yeah this is just stuff we've been watching
[00:50:59] Brad how was your week at watching films um really really kind of two weeks uh I saw a lot
[00:51:05] um out out in the theaters now or maybe disappeared uh yesterday because it's kind of a new week
[00:51:13] um the taste of things is uh you're gonna love this it's a French movie oh nice
[00:51:22] uh spoken in french um tell me more yeah uh french dialogue uh yeah there's uh there's uh
[00:51:29] uh this guy in this woman and they work at a uh hotel in France and uh they're like super chefs
[00:51:38] uh the best in the country I think and uh this dude's buddies roll in and he
[00:51:47] uh he's like the premier chef but he's only really that good because of what's her name
[00:51:54] uh Julia Pinotius character she's like the secret ingredient to his life um and he's harbor this love for her
[00:52:03] for gosh i probably like 20 years um but she doesn't want to get tied down to any man so uh yeah
[00:52:11] fuck man so he's he's preparing this uh special dinner for his bros uh and it's like
[00:52:18] i i a good half the movie it's just uh like these five dudes just like dirting out on food
[00:52:26] just like savoring everything uh the movie has no music it's all natural sound oh my god sounds more
[00:52:32] French as you talk about it so you're really savoring like the kitchen sounds and like the eating sounds
[00:52:40] uh cool but sadly as we go through the movie we find out that Julia Pinotius is not well um
[00:52:48] she has an illness that she's sort of downplaying um and so head chef guys like
[00:52:57] I need to make her my wife as soon as possible um and so yeah he finally like he cooks
[00:53:04] he uh he finally goes into the kitchen and does the cooking and prepares her like an amazing meal
[00:53:10] and that finally turns her around and so um they set a date but she doesn't make it Ryan
[00:53:17] she doesn't make it to the day I know you were and definitely everyone listening was gonna watch it
[00:53:24] um but it is like i don't know i guess i'm 40 now like really good cooking is actually interesting
[00:53:31] like i'm like oh man i just be needing garbage for like my instant cart days that i'm just like
[00:53:38] man that's like i don't even i don't even eat meat that i still like that chicken looks amazing
[00:53:43] um so yeah and then there's also like this uh other like little like teen girl in the neighborhood
[00:53:49] who has a really good palate so they're like testing some stuff to see if like she could be the next
[00:53:54] head chef like you know after several years of training of course but like she's you know
[00:54:00] if she is savant for cooking and so um there's kind of cute that she's like popping in and
[00:54:06] like sampling the dishes and like just from taste alone saying like you know here's like 20 ingredients
[00:54:11] I can taste in it and then the head chef's like super impressed so yeah it's it's a really good movie
[00:54:16] but it is yeah kind of simple and like the you know the cinematography is great um and yet like don't
[00:54:26] go watch it on empty stomach because it's just be like oh man i just want to eat everything they're eating
[00:54:33] um and then i watched uh the last picture show which is a bugged anavitch movie from 1971
[00:54:43] about this dying midwest town yeah it's one of those famous ones it might be
[00:54:53] i think so i i uh everything when you go to see like one of these retro movies the share teas
[00:54:59] they had like instead of commercials and trailers and things they have like they play with like the
[00:55:05] criterion like making of bonus feature beforehand so there was like this interview where like Luke Wilson
[00:55:11] was interviewing all the actress from that movie and everything um and so yeah it definitely seemed
[00:55:17] like this was um his big thing because it was like he was a reviewer just a regular film critic
[00:55:25] who was like fine i'll i'll put my money where my mouth is and i'll make a film yeah he's definitely
[00:55:31] on a lot of those uh criterion as a film historian yeah so yeah that he's like yeah i'm gonna make
[00:55:38] this movie like it it was a book so he adapted the book and uh yeah it's just about you know
[00:55:44] this dying midwest town um i forget the character names but you know Jeff Bridges then it
[00:55:51] um florist leechman uh civil shepherd and uh yeah they're just like
[00:55:58] teens and they're senior year and they're just kind of like i don't know doing coming coming
[00:56:02] coming-age stuff you know true up to graduation and then finally they graduate and it's like well
[00:56:08] what's next um you know the the theater in the mainstream it's going out of business and our mentor
[00:56:15] who ran the bars died and yeah it's just like a little slice of laugh thing which i was kind of bored
[00:56:21] through most of it just like okay where's this going what would okay we're just watching all these
[00:56:25] people just exist and then i feel like i've seen this movie before type thing but yeah
[00:56:33] um yeah if you see it uh yeah a long time ago um only because he would pop up on like special
[00:56:43] features all the time and so i was interested but then i thought and i don't remember anything about
[00:56:51] it so everything you just told me i'll take your word for it sounds a little familiar yeah um
[00:56:58] the other cool thing is about uh that these sharetees uh retro screenings is there's a guy
[00:57:02] i think his name is john ancelone apparently he's like some film scholar so he comes in
[00:57:08] and after the movie we sit around for like an hour and a half and he just talks about the movie
[00:57:12] and like all like the importance of them so that's kind of cool so i appreciate that a little more
[00:57:20] than the movie um yeah i mean i i remember that for when we did the carry grant stuff oh they did that
[00:57:27] for that i forgot yeah yeah so he didn't come to all of them but um yeah he's done the last
[00:57:35] year i've been to and the next one he's coming out for his jaws but uh next week is the getaway so
[00:57:41] hmm there'll be a gap but yeah um
[00:57:47] yeah and then the last two things i saw
[00:57:51] there's a movie called DC cab from 1983 was that the mr. t1 mr. t1 yet
[00:57:58] uh i i haven't seen that in a year i remember renting it at this mom and pop video store with my
[00:58:04] brothers yeah i was like it's an 80s movie it's got mr. t on the cover i'm gonna give it a shot
[00:58:10] and uh it does not age well i don't even remember it i just remember the cover of him
[00:58:18] like the cab door is like he's holding it or he ripped it off or something yeah exactly what is
[00:58:22] he's yeah he's holding it he's not even like the main character of the movie though um
[00:58:27] it's a jolshu macher movie i think it's second one directing effort and it's about uh you know
[00:58:33] if they had tied it into taxi it could have been like a taxi movie like that show taxi with
[00:58:39] christopher loyden everybody yeah um but yeah it's just it's just like this
[00:58:45] ensemble movie about these cabbies in in DC and they're trying to like save their cab business
[00:58:54] yeah they're like the bottom of the rung cab business in town um and yeah they're all
[00:59:01] bunch of misfits and they're gonna go out of business and then as a find a way to not do that
[00:59:05] and then like halfway through the movie suddenly there's a a kidnapping and uh the main guy
[00:59:11] Adam Baldwin who is like shown up from out of town decided to get hired there um he gets kidnapped
[00:59:19] with like i think the governor's kids and so in addition to saving the cab company the
[00:59:26] cabbies all band together to like go on a rescue mission and get them away from these like
[00:59:30] terrorists i guess all right yeah um it's got Gary bucey in it she's like one of the cabbies
[00:59:39] bill marz one of them uh i've seen i don't remember anything about it though
[00:59:46] yeah it's it's just kind of like i don't like not sure what the focus of the movie other than
[00:59:52] like they're trying to save but yeah like no like they're they do have like a couple really awesome
[00:59:58] wines uh in this mess of a movie uh early on like the first scene uh or second scene mr tees
[01:00:06] like picks up uh this i don't know congressperson and his uh mistress or she's a prostitute
[01:00:14] and when she starts uh giving a blow shot in the back seat of his car he's like you know he
[01:00:19] hits the brakes gets out like rips out of the car and he uh says like why don't you get off the street
[01:00:24] and get a decent job and she's like because i need the bread he's like well then go get a job at a
[01:00:28] bakery yeah and then like later on you find out like i think the mayor is uh sleeping with um
[01:00:38] there's this uh cabbie herald who's kind of like the owner of the company also the like the mechanic
[01:00:44] and he like he finds them together and so he throws him out the window into like the pool
[01:00:49] and before he says that he's like you know if your problem is bravo you're so short your brain is too
[01:00:53] close to your asshole yeah so a couple plenty of lines but yeah overall there's like a lot of
[01:01:02] like n-word usage by Gary bucey in it um you know when they're kind of breaking in the new guy
[01:01:10] they take him to a strip club so there's a lot of boobs and that i think like
[01:01:15] surprise you don't remember um yeah but it should be more fun than it is i think
[01:01:26] yeah like i said this could have been the like the taxi movie um
[01:01:32] but yeah i think jolshima could just want to make a second movie so he wrote this thing
[01:01:37] um i'm not sure like other than just to get something made you know i'm not sure what the story is
[01:01:44] supposed to really be um yeah and then the last thing i saw was the all-nighter which i don't know if
[01:01:52] you know uh it's a movie directed by the mom of Susanna Hoffs from the bangles
[01:02:01] no yeah um shocking like yeah so her mom directed this movie with her in it it's got
[01:02:09] Joan Qsack and DD Fifer Michelle Fifer sister um the director of tar Todd Fields is an extra
[01:02:18] as one of the bell hops in the movie um and it's just these girls these three girls who are about
[01:02:24] to graduate from college and they're two like surfer bro sort of boyfriends um who were in law school
[01:02:33] and uh they're uh i'm j yeah pretty much one of his names killer the other one cj um and yeah
[01:02:44] they surf a bunch and then the girls have us planned to have like one huge party for themselves
[01:02:50] where you know they go off from college and uh again you think there'd be like more fun zany stuff but
[01:02:59] really the party is like Susanna Hoffs goes to a um a hotel to meet this like famous band guy who's
[01:03:08] like in a band he's a musician he's like got a record uh he happened to live in the house that
[01:03:16] they're staying in at one point and he shows up one day just be like yeah i just stop by because
[01:03:21] like i miss this place i just want to see what's happened to it and then like i don't know 10
[01:03:25] years that i haven't been here and then Susanna Hoffs is like apparently a big fan of him so she's
[01:03:30] like oh i think i can hook up with this guy and so she tries to like track him down at the hotel
[01:03:34] and then the other two girls also happen to go to the other hotel and they get mistaken as prostitutes
[01:03:39] so the hotel staff gets them arrested and then oh gay Susanna Hoffs has to and and uh lead
[01:03:46] surfer guy asked to like devise a plan to get them out and uh Pam Greer is the uh oh nice
[01:03:53] police officer there so she gives him shit makes it difficult for them to uh get them out and uh
[01:04:00] yeah that's not all that happens it's like this should be like a super bad situation where they
[01:04:07] just kind of fall into this zany situation one after the next and yeah nothing really
[01:04:13] uh don't cue sack is like the film near girls so she's kind of videotaping everything
[01:04:19] the cops even let her get better keeper camera when they're in the back of the patty wagon
[01:04:23] nice yeah so bad it's so like 1987 like music and production design and like neon that
[01:04:34] it's kind of fun in that way yeah and then the very last thing is real quick i saw the room uh
[01:04:43] grix is sterile was there doing live commentary for it was it as crazy as the one we thought it wasn't
[01:04:51] the audience there was a lot of newbies in the audience so there was like two areas of the audience
[01:04:58] that i could sense like oh yeah these people have been the sqire before and then the rest of
[01:05:02] her like what are these people doing it's funny but i don't know like what why they're yelling out
[01:05:07] this stuff uh and then uh uh greg didn't really do like a commentary track like you would on a DVD
[01:05:15] he just you kind of like shoot his own jokes occasionally and then once his sexing comes he dips out
[01:05:21] because he doesn't want to watch it um and he doesn't come back in until after uh gosh like really
[01:05:28] late in the movie like around Tommy's birthday party comes back and says stuff again uh but i
[01:05:34] recorded it and you can hear a couple of those clips right now i know john he's supposed to be a banker
[01:05:42] but with that city looks more like a water bed salesman
[01:05:50] so denny was supposed to be 16 but he's actually the oldest cast member
[01:05:55] in the rough cut kissing was seven minutes long
[01:06:04] we made it through one guys
[01:06:12] i have to show my ass to sell this movie
[01:06:18] and he's getting a promotion very soon she should marry john
[01:06:22] just our luck the air conditioning broken it was 103 degrees
[01:06:29] Tommy said don't worry about air conditioning greg you have to be sexy
[01:06:39] i mean candles what candles music what music this sexy dress what sexy dress
[01:06:45] go on i told Tommy none of these things are present he said greg audience will not care
[01:06:57] so we shot this movie on two cameras at the exact same time
[01:07:02] so you're gonna be treated to shots that are completely out of focus like this one
[01:07:08] and all these weird moaning sounds you hear were all recorded after the film
[01:07:17] with Tommy directing me saying more passion as i recorded these sounds in a three
[01:07:24] so i'm gonna sit this one out guys have a break but enjoy it
[01:07:28] you
[01:07:32] Peter quit so he cast this guy
[01:07:37] if you're stupid comments in your pocket
[01:07:41] he's like what did she sell it?
[01:07:43] it's not over everybody betray me i fed up with his world
[01:07:47] i go back to my own planet
[01:07:51] let's get ready for the best line of the entire film
[01:07:54] get ready Johnny
[01:07:57] you can come out now Johnny she's gone
[01:08:00] in a few minutes bitch
[01:08:06] hey Johnny what's your favorite Jordan Peele movie
[01:08:13] get out get out get out my life
[01:08:17] why?
[01:08:18] so we can't leave because the staircases fade
[01:08:25] thank you so much guys you're an awesome audience thank you so much for coming out
[01:08:30] thanks for supporting me for 20 years thank you
[01:08:35] that breaks the pharaoh man
[01:08:37] such a cut up he's Johnny's best friend
[01:08:40] he is his best friend um i'm super bummed because no one did the run up to the screen and
[01:08:46] yeah it cased you on the part and i should have
[01:08:51] so is he live in person or is he like in a different place?
[01:08:54] no he was in the craft house the little craft house um
[01:08:58] and i'm merch booth and everything and um he overcharged me for the script i bought
[01:09:04] i don't know how to get that back like by ten bucks
[01:09:08] oh yeah that's a lot
[01:09:09] yeah like i got three service charges for you and my credit card is like three
[01:09:13] okay all right i guess i'll just tear you apart man
[01:09:19] yeah um bad it was it was awesome uh he did like a before the movie he did like there's a
[01:09:27] uh there's a version of the script of the room uh before kind of like what you saw
[01:09:33] so it's like even weirder so he read a scene from that with a bunch of other people from
[01:09:39] the audience and then uh answers some little questions and then did the movie and yeah
[01:09:44] uh set a couple things and it's fun nice
[01:09:47] nice wish she could have been there i don't want i don't want you to watch the movie again but
[01:09:54] right you know when it has stuff like that it might be fun
[01:09:56] yeah i asked him uh uh they'll the keep your comments in your pocket line like
[01:10:04] where that come from and like why didn't it change like it just seems like an odd thing that no one
[01:10:08] like that no one would question and he says like he just said like yeah i was at that point
[01:10:13] you know that late in the movie i just didn't question anything i just rolled with it
[01:10:19] you should have got him to do a bumper for our podcast
[01:10:22] yeah i should have i was like maybe if i met him a few more times but
[01:10:29] there's like a line for the merchant everything so i don't want to be like that guy
[01:10:33] yeah i got you i don't want to be like hey how much would cost for me like
[01:10:37] because then you got a preference like hey i want to do this thing for my podcast and
[01:10:40] like as soon as you said that say that you think they're thinking oh god this guy wants to get
[01:10:44] me on his podcast which i know they don't want to really do um yeah so i was like i was going
[01:10:50] to avoid it i'll see like i would be fine offering like hey you know all your merch here i'd rather
[01:10:55] can i just pay you 20 bucks to do like a thing in my phone that just says like hey you're listening
[01:11:00] to rillers podcast but again like the line behind me i just do i don't want to be like
[01:11:04] dance for me monkey dance he's gonna come back around it at some point i'm sure
[01:11:09] but not the s-quire that's the other news i should have talked about
[01:11:14] in the news section um landmark theaters is not going to
[01:11:19] renew their lease at the s-quire so
[01:11:22] bummer yeah like there's there's nothing
[01:11:26] i guess standing the way of uh the the the property is just a
[01:11:31] uh knocking it down now so that's sad try to go there as much as you can until June
[01:11:37] um i'm gonna try and i'm gonna try and designate it as a historic landmark but the chances of
[01:11:44] that are very very small getting approved you know we've talked about maybe landmark doesn't
[01:11:51] renew the lease but maybe some other film theater entity could move into that space or
[01:11:57] just can we just start our own and just be the s-quire without the landmark branding
[01:12:04] um so i feel like the landmark didn't renew because the property owners want to develop it so they
[01:12:11] just like hey you can do it here's the price and it's like completely unrealistically
[01:12:17] unaffordable so you won't want to renew so i feel like even if we
[01:12:22] propose like hey we'll operate the theater they'd be like no
[01:12:27] yeah i mean that's such a coveted corner right there
[01:12:32] yeah that it sucks but they can put some sort of
[01:12:39] thing below and build you know lofts above and
[01:12:43] what that's my name is like why why got the theater like why not just like okay the parking lot
[01:12:48] there's plenty of off-street parking so you don't really need the parking lot
[01:12:52] um like it's only really full like at seven o'clock on weekends you know
[01:12:57] yeah why not just do one of those angled like digging to the ground so it's like this
[01:13:02] it's down below the street but at an angle and then you could build your little lofts or whatever
[01:13:07] on top of that and just like doing overhang above the s-quire like the sea does you know
[01:13:14] yeah but i guess they're just not that creative
[01:13:18] buckers so anyway um yeah bad news uh yeah did i talk about uh
[01:13:28] Batman the doom that came to Gotham last week i don't think you did uh yeah so it's
[01:13:34] i'm always a fan of the Batman animated movies that come out for DC um this one was okay i was
[01:13:42] excited because the mic mcnoah connection and it was kind of a horror story and i don't know
[01:13:50] like there's cool because the the elsewhere world Batman stuff is kind of fun um but
[01:13:58] i don't know it was definitely one of the weakest ones that i watched um the world is cool
[01:14:05] but that's about it i also introduced my kid to Napoleon dynamite oh yeah um
[01:14:13] which was really fun because now he says stuff like uh i already blip and told you
[01:14:22] so uh did the ass for tater tots no happy bad ass but i forgot like how much it lived in its own
[01:14:30] world that movie you know um and how everybody talks in it in just the bizarre dialogue
[01:14:40] uh pain of pulling what'd you do this summer i already told you i spent it all summer hunting
[01:14:45] wolf a reason Alaska what kind of use a freaking twelkage they're attacking my family when the heck
[01:14:51] would you do it doesn't make any sense at all um but for some reason it total that movie works 100%
[01:15:01] it's just bizarre and funny and great um yeah thumbs me out there's like a bunch of people i know who
[01:15:08] hate that movie and it's like i really hate that movie like they don't get it yeah it's so weird
[01:15:14] and fun um to eat the food hey Napoleon bitch i can throw a football over the mountains
[01:15:23] yeah fucking i i didn't put together uncle rico is the wolf man and uh the monster squad
[01:15:34] yep they go oh shit he's a bunch of stuff that i'm like oh man never put it together
[01:15:41] what is uh i totally forgot the part where uh what's the glamour shots girl's name Deb
[01:15:49] she thinks so first shows up and she says yeah i'm trying to raise money to go to college
[01:15:54] and Kim says your mom goes to college yeah
[01:15:59] it's exactly like i was trying to remember that like triggered her
[01:16:06] he's so impressed with himself yeah he's burned this tool stranger
[01:16:12] you bring me my chapsic no just use the one that that nurse has
[01:16:20] and a point get into your tots no get your own idiot it's like six dollars an hour
[01:16:29] i mean a dollar an hour oh shit that fucking movie um i i've been doing the thing where i have all
[01:16:38] these blue rays that i need to watch so i just been randomly having google pick a number that
[01:16:44] i've assigned these uh movies randomly and uh one of them is r i b p d which is the old
[01:16:52] ryan Reynolds um Jeff Bridges comic book movie and it's not good um yeah i didn't remember you
[01:17:04] know cuz it's one we did for we didn't have a soda on it we did and i thought it was i've
[01:17:09] completely forgotten like anything that happens in it dude so i'm watching it and i don't remember
[01:17:14] scenes at all that i couldn't remember what happened next and and i no man at least this movie is
[01:17:23] only like eighty five minutes long it's um like you i mean there is some fun stuff in it i'm not
[01:17:30] gonna say it's a total like train wreck but you definitely can tell there's one studio interference in
[01:17:37] it and two because it came out in twenty twelve i think um and they tried to wait 13 they did uh
[01:17:47] pgi like big people monster things and it just looks bad um you can hear our exact review of it
[01:17:56] on episode one ten wow that's over five hundred episodes ago yep um yeah so just watching it i mean
[01:18:04] Jeff Bridges is really fun in it um but uh yeah and Kevin Bacon i i didn't remember Kevin Bacon
[01:18:13] was in it what yeah he's the bad guy oh he's a bad guy and super i remember that yeah and
[01:18:22] X-Men first class yeah so yeah it's okay um it literally still has the trademark like
[01:18:31] dicker when i took it out it was four dollars um oh that episode had Kora and Michael on it
[01:18:37] did it really yeah um our correspondent yeah um shash to those people they haven't heard from them
[01:18:43] you can also see uh Kora in our episode six of the pod show um she's eating the candy um
[01:18:59] i watched eternal again for the first time since theaters and that movie actually is
[01:19:04] better than i remember it um there's still some weird
[01:19:08] nonsense but it's a beautiful film it truly is a beautiful film um and so it was fun
[01:19:17] going back and watching it with some fresh eyes that's so weird it's been like what two three
[01:19:24] years since that movie and yeah knowing in the MCU is acknowledging this is giant eternal sticking out
[01:19:30] of yours i know no yeah um i got this Robert Downey Jr. Blue Ray for a movie called In Dreams
[01:19:41] that stars the netbending and um one the transfer on the blue ray is not that good it looks like
[01:19:50] a very minor upgraded DVD transfer um but uh in the film a netbending
[01:20:01] plays the woman and her husband is Adrian Quinn that sound right
[01:20:08] uh Adrian Quinn thank you uh and their daughter is kidnapped and murdered by a serial killer who
[01:20:16] is Robert Downey Jr. um and he's not in it very much and i'm pretty sure this was 1999
[01:20:24] so he was definitely in a bad place at this time and his life um but it had has a vibe of
[01:20:33] uh it went into be seven and the MTV late 90 quick cuts if that makes any sense um because
[01:20:44] that betting has is able to communicate with Robert Downey Jr.'s character Vivian through dreams
[01:20:52] so it's he's like Freddie Krueger but not a demon um i don't know she's way over the top in it
[01:21:01] and hamps it up in every scene um it's it's okay it's not that great it's definitely not one of the
[01:21:11] best Robert Downey Jr. movies um but you know because i'm a completist i had to get it on blue ray
[01:21:18] because he's in it that's gonna say back when you were doing this whole Robert Downey Jr.
[01:21:24] filmography thing and like your goal was to get all the movies of his on blue ray did you achieve
[01:21:28] yeah so not all his movies are available on blue ray um which ones are still missing um i don't know
[01:21:36] i'd have to go and look um i want to say like the pickup artist a lot of his like mid 90s stuff
[01:21:47] is slowly trickling out i think two years ago i got heart and soul
[01:21:53] um i don't know i have to and good luck and good night isn't on blue ray which is really weird
[01:21:58] because it's you know it is really big no it's like a really big um because i have it on each
[01:22:06] you DVD yeah i'm pretty sure it's not i think i only have it on DVD if it's on blue ray i've totally
[01:22:11] missed it yeah you know i'll check on that one because i'm pretty sure it is do you have hails
[01:22:14] Caesar uh no because i that just came to mind because like it you know it's a pretty MVD rewind
[01:22:22] rewind collection yeah like they just put it out so i was unsure if you picked it up or not
[01:22:27] i haven't picked it up yet i so i've been trying to be a little better these last couple weeks
[01:22:32] they're months because i have i have all these movies i need to watch and this Tuesday i have
[01:22:38] three movies coming so i'm the James Cameron ultra HD stuff true lies is coming out and
[01:22:46] see it this and i have the looney tunes coming so i'm trying to be good um
[01:22:54] and the last thing i watched is a new movie it's called stop motion
[01:23:01] um which is was in fantastic fast and i really wanted to see it and i thought it was playing at
[01:23:08] a regal and then i just happened to look one day and is also playing at the at the draft house
[01:23:17] so i went saw and it's about this woman who is working with her mother who's a really famous
[01:23:24] stop motion animator and her mother has such bad arthritis she's basically telling her daughter that
[01:23:33] she have everything that needs to be happening and she's really hard on her um her mother stuff
[01:23:39] her as a stroke and she decides to finish her mother's film when she does that though she decides
[01:23:46] not to finish her mother's film and make her own film about um this guy kind of like uh i can't
[01:23:54] if i can't remember his name but it's a it's like a monster guy who comes to your house at three nights
[01:24:01] the first night he knocks um the second night he touches you and then the third night um i'll let you
[01:24:08] just figure out what he does yeah um yeah but the stop motion in it is incredible um it's a really
[01:24:16] creepy movie it's uh there's some violent things in it but it's more about the atmosphere and
[01:24:24] the creepiness of the stop motion animation but the stop motion animation is freaking incredible
[01:24:30] in it um and it's it's quite enough and slow moving enough that i really enjoyed it and there's
[01:24:37] some pretty gruesome things in it um so if you're looking for a different kind of horror movie
[01:24:43] it's it's pretty cool yeah i was gonna try to check it out but i totally missed it
[01:24:48] yeah um so yeah i definitely do uh if you have an opportunity i don't know if it'll start streaming
[01:24:53] soon or whatever um yeah that's what i watched this week um this week or next week we're seeing
[01:25:02] imaginary um so that should be fun and then uh don't put us in 84 coming some weeks soon
[01:25:14] yeah very soon um i'll keep you posted on that and the Oscars are this sunday so um we'll see you at the movies
