[00:00:21] Follow their social media pages on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

[00:00:27] This message will self-destruct, never.

[00:00:59] This is Reel Nerds Podcast, unofficially the official podcast at Denver PopCultureCon 2021 and beyond.

[00:01:08] And it's lockdown number two so once again we're coming to you via Zoom.

[00:01:13] Hey Brad!

[00:01:14] Hey what's up?

[00:01:15] No you know, living the dream. Zach?

[00:01:19] Oh, pandemic two, pandemic harder. Lockdown two, Lock or Harder.

[00:01:24] Electric Boogaloo.

[00:01:25] Electric Boogaloo.

[00:01:27] Yes.

[00:01:28] So, I have a pandemic story for you and why we still have a pandemic.

[00:01:35] I went to Best Buy Today because they have their Black Friday sales are going on right now.

[00:01:42] So I said, oh I'm going to go pick up some cheap movies.

[00:01:45] And Kellan really likes playing with fire at the John Cena movie.

[00:01:49] So that was $5.99 and so I was like okay yeah that's fine.

[00:01:52] And then I got a couple other ones and like the Deathstroke movie which I really wasn't that interested in

[00:02:00] but I heard it was good and it was $5.99 as well so I'm like fuck it who cares.

[00:02:05] And so I got my like four movies and I go up and there's like this I don't know 17 year old kid

[00:02:13] who's checking people out you know at the register and he gets to me and I notice I look down

[00:02:20] and he has like an open package of Swedish fish and he has gloves on and he has a mask

[00:02:27] and while he's checking me out he pulls the mask down and starts eating the Swedish fish,

[00:02:34] pulls the mask back up and says man I really like Swedish fish.

[00:02:40] Oh yeah.

[00:02:41] Whoa whoa whoa wait wait wait.

[00:02:43] And I said first he did that in front of you?

[00:02:45] Yeah I said hey dude do you mind not pulling your mask down and eating with gloves on?

[00:02:53] Because here's the thing is I don't want him to get fired but at the same time it's gross.

[00:03:01] Yeah and we're in the middle of a pandemic and if I already didn't have COVID I might

[00:03:05] have freaked out a little more.

[00:03:07] That two things are bothering me first of all the entirety of your story second of all

[00:03:13] that he made it found it necessary in the middle of him neglecting his pandemic duties

[00:03:20] to be like man Swedish fish the best of the candies.

[00:03:25] Have you ever had a retail job where the manager said it was okay to eat in front of customers

[00:03:30] on the floor?

[00:03:32] No, no, God no.

[00:03:34] And here's the thing too it's pandemic or no pandemic.

[00:03:38] I forgot another part of the story so do little with Robert Downey Jr. is also 5.99

[00:03:43] or I could have sprung for the Ultra HD for 10 but I'm like this movie is not

[00:03:47] good enough to own an Ultra HD and I want to spend the extra money.

[00:03:51] You know I'm just a completeist because I want the Robert Downey Jr. movie and so I pay for everything

[00:03:58] and I'm leaving and he says oh and by the way this movie it's not good.

[00:04:03] Have a nice fucking day.

[00:04:07] Did you that's when you pull out the pull out the card and be like listen

[00:04:13] not only are you responsible but you're talking to a podcaster who's been doing this shit for 11 years

[00:04:18] you don't think I don't know that do little is garbage.

[00:04:22] You know it's funny this is how stupid I am and me owning movies like I saw that

[00:04:28] and I go you know for 5.99 I'm a completeist because I mean I wasn't going to get it

[00:04:34] when it came out for 25 bucks.

[00:04:36] I said you know what isn't really that bad so I'm going to watch it again

[00:04:40] and I'm like oh my god this is a piece of shit but you know whatever.

[00:04:45] But you're a completeist you know we all have like the garbage heaps of our in our collection

[00:04:50] and stuff for them like yeah I mean I have to have all of Robert Downey Jr's movies

[00:04:54] like I have Wonder Boys coming up next week that movie is pretty good though.

[00:04:58] Yeah I mean I've got some Burns and Allen's movies that are not good at all

[00:05:02] but they're still there you know I found them cheap.

[00:05:05] You figure out how to get them at the lowest possible cost.

[00:05:09] I'll just segue to the next thing I mean on this podcast we talk about movies so

[00:05:13] Brad what is like the one shameful movie you own

[00:05:20] and you're like this movie is not that good but I have to have it

[00:05:24] because it's part of a collection or it's a part of a completeist run

[00:05:28] what's the one movie where you're like nope I don't know why I have that one.

[00:05:33] Oh like I have like I'm ashamed to have it it's not something like

[00:05:39] oh five of these came with this purchase so I just have it anyway.

[00:05:43] Yeah it's like my do little you know it's not a very good movie

[00:05:46] but I said you know it's a Robert Downey Jr movie so I need to have it.

[00:05:50] So something like I actually want to have and that's like something extra that I have.

[00:05:54] Yeah.

[00:05:56] I mean I've been pretty disciplined lately about just getting the stuff that I really want.

[00:06:01] Off the top of my head maybe something like like a like a like a shitty

[00:06:12] shout factory movie that was like oh it's gonna be awesome and then you're watching

[00:06:16] you're like oh this is a mistake.

[00:06:18] Yeah maybe like the peanut butter solution is that.

[00:06:23] Okay that's fair.

[00:06:25] I'm trying to think of something else that actually really love.

[00:06:29] I mean I have super my brothers people hate that but I love it.

[00:06:33] Yeah it's interesting because now the bread of shout factory yeah I mean I've been really

[00:06:38] more disciplined as well that's why I waited till you know Black Friday before I got I mean

[00:06:43] in the old days of like fuck it it's a Robert Downey Jr movie I'm just gonna get it.

[00:06:47] But shout factory you know they do their shocktober events or every once

[00:06:53] while they have 70% off things and one movie I have is called Blood and Lace

[00:06:58] and it is so fucking awful and I'm watching it and I go and I just see it

[00:07:03] still on my shelf like I'm looking at it right now.

[00:07:06] Like a why do I still have this fucking movie and then I saw that it's out of print

[00:07:11] and it sells for a lot I go okay well maybe I'll hang on to it for collectors

[00:07:14] I don't.

[00:07:16] I'm ashamed that I have it.

[00:07:18] You should probably sell it though because they might do like a new addition

[00:07:20] and then you'll you know that people won't care about it.

[00:07:22] That is true a new 4k scan of it.

[00:07:24] Yeah or 8k.

[00:07:26] 8k TVs now.

[00:07:28] So I guess if I'm talking like there's I mean the shadow is one where I know that

[00:07:34] movie's not amazing but I have to have it because of the old time radio connection

[00:07:38] to it the same with the Lone Ranger.

[00:07:40] The Lone Ranger has depreciated in value with me over time.

[00:07:44] But I was gonna say because of the amount of Golden Age Hollywood

[00:07:51] movies that I end up collecting I end up having double dips unintentionally

[00:07:56] so I ended up picking up the fourth volume of the gangster series

[00:08:00] that they put out back in the mid-2000s.

[00:08:03] I have two copies of the amazing Dr. Clitterhouse between two different collections

[00:08:08] and I'm like I don't love this movie that much why do I have two copies?

[00:08:12] You know I think it is to a big misconception that all classic Hollywood

[00:08:18] films are good.

[00:08:20] Oh no.

[00:08:22] Oh dude there's one I have.

[00:08:24] I have a Bob Hope movie called Where There's Life that is not good at all.

[00:08:30] I just got it because it was in that big haul that I got when I worked at the

[00:08:35] thrift store where I was like you know what I'm never gonna pay more

[00:08:39] than the $3 they're asking for this right now.

[00:08:42] I've gotta get it and there's movies that I've seen where I'm

[00:08:46] like you know what I would want this for complete this value but I don't know

[00:08:51] if it's worth having in my shelf whatsoever like Charlie McCarthy detective is the

[00:08:55] worst thing I've ever seen in my life and it ruins the legacy of that

[00:08:59] venture liquid but I god damn it I if I ever found a copy I might get it

[00:09:04] going like here here's an example of what not to get but yeah no I

[00:09:10] I'm trying to think of like another like a more modern movie like to be

[00:09:14] honest like I guess it's either I guess it's the Lone Ranger because I

[00:09:18] don't know why I have that on my shelf when it hasn't

[00:09:21] come up for me.

[00:09:23] No I have it too you know there's there's some movies that I have

[00:09:27] that I thought weren't that great but I own because when trades went out

[00:09:31] and they had this 75% off so or it's like you bought to and got

[00:09:35] to free I can't remember how it was but I have that and Adam Marcus's

[00:09:41] Texas chainsaw that I got for I think a dollar seventy five

[00:09:46] that's fair actually I've got one village of the day at John Carpenter's

[00:09:51] village of the damned because I am a carpenter completist I got that on sale

[00:09:55] at seconds been so I was not that bad though no it's not bad but it's

[00:10:00] not like it's a fun watch but not for the reasons that it's true I

[00:10:06] find value in it in certain sections of it but it is a edited mess

[00:10:11] because of the studio so like but the special features on that thing

[00:10:15] are incredible so I guess that's the value in it so yeah I've got

[00:10:19] another one cool last blood because I had to get it with the

[00:10:23] brambo set you know it's funny Brad guess what I got today for

[00:10:26] 799 god damn you go for the steel books.

[00:10:31] No because man that's fucking eighty five dollars and I think my wife

[00:10:36] still mad at me for forgetting that I pre-ordered the office

[00:10:39] complete series so it's good you did that thing is like selling

[00:10:43] out constantly is it yeah oh good yeah I watched it it looks great

[00:10:50] the other things are some bandam movies I have that are very good

[00:10:55] but I have them because they're bandam movies.

[00:10:58] Yeah that's what I mean like you know like yeah I mean you have Jason

[00:11:03] Statham I have a few of those I'd have to think about it

[00:11:07] but yeah you know like chaos with Ryan Felipe and I don't even

[00:11:14] remember really what happened to that movie I just know I have it

[00:11:20] anyways now every week on Real Nerds podcast we see a new movie

[00:11:26] and because of everything that's going on we're doing a safer

[00:11:28] at home this week we streamed or yeah streamed the remake

[00:11:36] reimagining of Rebecca.

[00:11:38] Yeah you can also stream on Netflix stay tuned to the end of

[00:11:42] the show where people have been more disciplined but here we are

[00:11:46] well I told you why we started pandemic because we have idiots

[00:11:50] and Swedish fish yeah.

[00:11:53] You talk to Swedish fish they're delicious he's right.

[00:11:55] They are but they it means that you know I remember about two

[00:12:00] months ago I went into Jimmy John's and their

[00:12:04] Kellan and I were waiting for our sandwiches and this guy was

[00:12:07] behind us and he got his sandwich and he filled up his

[00:12:12] that drink with root beer pulled down his mask took a drink from

[00:12:16] it not from his straw but from the cup and then put it back

[00:12:20] on the tab and filled it up again so that's why they're

[00:12:26] still a pandemic because people are fucking idiots.

[00:12:29] He said you were at Target by the way and I think about

[00:12:32] customer service do they like continually like push their

[00:12:36] stocking carts like in your direction and like make you move.

[00:12:41] Yeah yeah it was not a good I did not like my target experience

[00:12:45] like yeah like every time I go out to Target like there's

[00:12:48] someone like they're doing tons of shelf stocking right which

[00:12:51] I guess is fine like they don't want to do overnighters that

[00:12:53] much but it's just like when I worked in retail like my boss

[00:12:58] has told me like you know don't make the customers move

[00:13:01] for you.

[00:13:02] Yeah but no it right go now like all the self people like excuse

[00:13:07] me and you put this back it's like yeah I would just wait.

[00:13:12] So yeah I think it's honestly because they so it's not just

[00:13:16] me that's good yeah no I think it's because they don't have

[00:13:20] the best help right now to tell you the truth and so they're

[00:13:25] just trying to and I mean they I don't know if they care

[00:13:29] I mean let's be honest.

[00:13:31] Yeah I mean yeah for sure what they're getting paid yet

[00:13:35] probably not but still I don't know.

[00:13:37] Yeah but you know I guess we do have a vaccine coming and

[00:13:41] just stay healthy wear a mask you know because I mean the

[00:13:46] scientific community said it's not going to be until April

[00:13:48] where it's really going to settle down if all these

[00:13:53] vaccines work so keep doing it but we'll move on from there

[00:13:58] I yeah we'll play the trailer and they'll tell you should

[00:14:01] spoil the film.

[00:14:03] We also talk about movies that are coming out blue rays that

[00:14:05] are coming out and films and stuff we've watched throughout

[00:14:08] the week and Brad we I don't think we have around town but

[00:14:14] you do have a teaser for your new film up online if you

[00:14:17] want to tell people about that actually have both.

[00:14:20] Oh cool.

[00:14:22] Hey film buddies follow me around Denver.

[00:14:28] Yeah the 88 Drive-In is still staying open presumably to recoup

[00:14:32] all of the weeks they lost earlier this year being not open

[00:14:35] so they've got a Christmas lineup of elf a Christmas story

[00:14:39] and National Lampoon's Christmas vacation.

[00:14:41] Oh that's pretty good.

[00:14:42] December 3rd.

[00:14:43] Nice.

[00:14:44] That's a nice lineup.

[00:14:45] So they are closed Thanksgiving so don't go then but

[00:14:50] Friday 27th 28th and 29th in December 3rd you can check

[00:14:55] out those three movies.

[00:14:57] Sweet.

[00:14:59] And yeah I posted a teaser for my latest weekend film project

[00:15:05] the Legend of Drunken Brewmaster and I don't watch that

[00:15:09] trailer at Brad.

[00:15:11] Yeah trailer is on my Vimeo account or on Facebook.

[00:15:19] If you just search for Nebulous Fusions at Vimeo it'll

[00:15:24] probably be the first thing comes up.

[00:15:27] I watched it.

[00:15:28] It looks fun.

[00:15:30] Yeah I like when you only make like a five minute film and you

[00:15:35] try to cut a 48 second teaser for it it's very hard to put

[00:15:39] something together that doesn't spoil everything.

[00:15:42] Has a nice grind house feel to it like.

[00:15:46] Yeah it's only trying to do the 70s 80s Kung Fu vibe so.

[00:15:51] Yeah I pick it up.

[00:15:53] Yeah.

[00:15:54] Yeah I'm pretty excited to show it to people but they haven't

[00:15:58] announced anything yet so I can't do anything until that happens.

[00:16:01] There will be a screening process.

[00:16:04] There's like two waves so all there's like 90 films from that

[00:16:09] project so that'll screen and then all the best ones that

[00:16:14] win audience choice from that will go to the next round and

[00:16:18] then audiences of vote again.

[00:16:21] So I'll let you know make sure you yeah let us know so we can

[00:16:24] make sure you move advance.

[00:16:26] I need your votes because that's the only reason spotlight made

[00:16:28] the best of.

[00:16:29] Yeah for the last project movie.

[00:16:32] No because we've said we're friends.

[00:16:37] So yeah.

[00:16:41] Well congrats.

[00:16:42] Thank you.

[00:16:44] Let's talk about what's happening in the movie world

[00:16:47] in a segment we call real news.

[00:16:51] It's real news.

[00:16:58] Yeah so as has already been stated up at the top of the

[00:17:01] show movie theaters have shut down all across different parts

[00:17:07] of our counties but specifically also 700 movie theaters

[00:17:11] nationwide closed over the weekend and that made the

[00:17:15] box office that's already you know teetering on the edge

[00:17:18] even worse freaky was obviously the bigger hold this week

[00:17:23] but hopefully if they are able to reopen a little bit in

[00:17:30] within the coming weeks Wonder Woman might be able to help give

[00:17:34] them a push but to be honest like the fact that they just

[00:17:39] shut down again overnight tells me we're in for a long

[00:17:41] haul again so I'm not holding my breath.

[00:17:45] I mean supposedly it's supposed to only last till December

[00:17:47] 4th. I hope so because you know what was going to you know

[00:17:51] it was supposed to come out the moment like the day before

[00:17:55] they did the day before they decided to shut down.

[00:17:57] I got word that mank was going to be at the Mayan and I

[00:18:00] was super excited.

[00:18:00] I was like oh great.

[00:18:02] I can go see mank I can find a you know an afternoon

[00:18:05] showtime and watch Fincher's new movie.

[00:18:07] The day that it would have dropped was the day that

[00:18:10] everything shut down.

[00:18:11] I'm like God damn it fucking.

[00:18:14] I was going to go see the crudes but fuck.

[00:18:18] Was that for Kellan or for you.

[00:18:22] Yeah yeah sure yeah I just really like Nicholas Cage as a caveman.

[00:18:29] But anyway we'll move on as a result though it seems like

[00:18:33] everything's kind of rippling around because did you guys

[00:18:37] saw a trailer for a movie called the three five five right.

[00:18:40] In any of your screenings as a as of late.

[00:18:45] I don't remember.

[00:18:46] Okay it's just like a Chastain action movie it's directed by

[00:18:48] Simon Kim.

[00:18:50] Yeah it's getting moved now and a whole year to 2022.

[00:18:55] So what yeah that it was supposed to come out in January

[00:18:59] 2021 now it's going out January 2022.

[00:19:03] This is insane.

[00:19:04] I don't I mean there's more other things that are getting

[00:19:09] shifted around in different ways coming to America the coming

[00:19:13] to America sequel with a two in the middle instead of a to is

[00:19:17] coming to Amazon Prime Video on March 2021 as opposed to its

[00:19:22] theatrical release that it was going to get to Paramount.

[00:19:25] So yeah Paramount is definitely not doing well because

[00:19:27] they've been giving up a lot of their movies lately because

[00:19:31] well I said to I think it's at a point as well where

[00:19:34] they're gonna they're starting to run out of dates you

[00:19:37] know and

[00:19:39] I'm curious to see if the vaccine works and things start

[00:19:42] getting under control.

[00:19:43] If they start moving movies up and start putting them actually

[00:19:47] back out into theaters.

[00:19:51] They might I mean we'll see I think this is all I think

[00:19:55] Wonder Woman's going to be another litmus test that

[00:19:57] they're going to give a shot depending on how many theaters

[00:20:00] are open to do so like the thing that that should be

[00:20:03] clarified as far as from as far from as recently as I

[00:20:07] checked not every theater technically in the Denver

[00:20:10] area is closed because the the AMC Cherry Creek 8 the one I

[00:20:15] used to work at in the mall in the Cherry Creek mall is

[00:20:19] still open.

[00:20:20] So you can AMC's and Harkins are still open.

[00:20:23] Yeah they are the ones that are in my that the ones

[00:20:26] that are in our counties are gone but if you're in

[00:20:29] Denver County you can go there so technically to one and

[00:20:33] then the AMC or 12 is the closest one that I saw that

[00:20:37] I'd be able to get over to so.

[00:20:39] But yeah so and I don't know if I'm I don't know if my gas

[00:20:44] budget will allow that but you know it's okay Ryan it's

[00:20:48] really okay you know why because you know what's going

[00:20:50] to save the movie industry it's not going to be Wonder

[00:20:52] Woman it's not going to be Mank it's not going to be the

[00:20:54] 355 it's going to be the Tom and Jerry movie and we got

[00:20:58] a trailer for it.

[00:20:59] New yeah I think animation looks cute it does it does

[00:21:03] the animation looks cute they're being violent to each

[00:21:06] other I love it because that's how those cartoons should

[00:21:09] be because that's what they were not to say you need to

[00:21:12] be purist with it but I never liked when they talked

[00:21:15] because those were some videos that happened.

[00:21:17] I just I'm always specious about these films because

[00:21:20] once again it's let's put these animated characters into

[00:21:23] a live action environment because you've got Chloe

[00:21:26] Grace Moretz and Michael Penya and Colin Joest and

[00:21:31] Ken Jeong in the movie so I mean the trailer look cute

[00:21:36] I'll go watch it I don't I'm not as fond of Tom and Jerry

[00:21:40] as I am of the Looney Tunes but I respect Tom and Jerry

[00:21:44] so I'll give this a shot.

[00:21:48] It's it's interesting it is it's I liked the the back half

[00:21:54] of the trailer when they're when he's doing the Batman

[00:21:56] gag that was fun.

[00:21:58] Yeah.

[00:21:59] And then we'll move on to another cartoon piece of

[00:22:02] news because this one actually kind of boggles my mind

[00:22:07] so we all are familiar with the Pink Panther movies if not

[00:22:11] fans of them to some degree or another correct.

[00:22:14] Yeah.

[00:22:15] Okay that as we all know it got remade in the mid 2000s

[00:22:19] with Steve Martin playing Inspector Clouseau now the

[00:22:24] filmmaker Jeff Fowler behind the movie Sonic the Hedgehog

[00:22:28] is going to be rebooting the Pink Panther and it's

[00:22:31] going to be a combination of live action and animation

[00:22:35] because they're going to make the Pink Panther a character

[00:22:38] in the movie.

[00:22:42] I don't think they watched the Pink Panther movies.

[00:22:48] That's my conclusion the Pink Panther was an animated

[00:22:53] in the in the original movies he's an animated character

[00:22:56] in the opening credits and then he got his own little

[00:22:59] cartoon series spin offs do I think the Chuck Chuck Jones

[00:23:04] studio I could be wrong.

[00:23:06] But I don't know about this that Hollywood reporter says

[00:23:10] the story will focus on a smooth operating Inspector who

[00:23:14] thanks to a traumatic event now has a Pink Panther for

[00:23:17] an imaginary friend.

[00:23:20] The Pink Panther of course does not speak because he never

[00:23:23] spoke in the animated openings or in the cartoon.

[00:23:25] Well, no he spoke in the cartoon didn't he?

[00:23:27] No, I don't remember you know he didn't.

[00:23:29] Okay so then you have silent comedian that Pink Panther

[00:23:33] but he does help solve the case.

[00:23:36] So I don't know I don't know I was not a fan of Sonic the

[00:23:41] hedgehog so I'm very very very puzzled by all of this this

[00:23:46] all of this news seemed like they put it into a blender

[00:23:49] but I will watch it.

[00:23:50] I'll I'm a Pink Panther completist to an extent or

[00:23:55] another but I actually don't mind the first Steve Martin

[00:24:00] outing that he did as Inspector Cluso.

[00:24:03] I don't like that second one but yeah we'll move on.

[00:24:09] We like video games.

[00:24:10] We like James Bond and we certainly like James Bond video

[00:24:12] games and now it looks like developer IO interactive is

[00:24:17] making a new video game for James Bond that will tell

[00:24:21] his wholly original origin story.

[00:24:26] In other news they didn't watch the last two Bond

[00:24:29] movies that came out because that isn't that that correct me

[00:24:35] but it's been a while since I've seen Skyfall Inspector

[00:24:37] but I'm pretty sure that's what those movies are about.

[00:24:42] So yeah and we haven't and we still haven't seen no time

[00:24:44] to die so we don't know how many more pieces of his back

[00:24:47] story we get so but yeah I mean I like I remember liking

[00:24:51] GoldenEye on then 64 so yeah it's classic.

[00:24:54] Yeah I don't know if any of the video games that have

[00:24:56] come out for Bond since then have been any fun like that's

[00:25:02] can't remember.

[00:25:03] I don't remember if there was one that where they tried to do

[00:25:05] the Connery era is what I remember but I guess we answer

[00:25:10] our own question when we don't remember what came out.

[00:25:12] Yeah I guess that's true.

[00:25:14] GoldenEye reloaded was okay.

[00:25:16] Oh yeah that was good.

[00:25:17] Is that was that like a restoration of it or was it just

[00:25:20] a whole new game?

[00:25:21] The restoration of it.

[00:25:22] Okay right on cool.

[00:25:25] And then we'll move on to filming is commencing on Black Panther

[00:25:29] 2 in July 2021 is when it'll kick off.

[00:25:32] It looks like they've added an actor from Narco, Mexico to

[00:25:36] the cast and they haven't been speaking out loud but there's

[00:25:40] been rumors that have kind of confirmed what we thought

[00:25:43] which is that it looks like Shuri may have a more prominent

[00:25:46] role in the movie so that's good I'd like that.

[00:25:50] I think that's the best way to do it because

[00:25:55] I mean you can't do anything else.

[00:25:57] I mean you're not replaced Chadwick Boseman so.

[00:26:00] The only other option that I would put to the table is

[00:26:03] Lupita Nyong'o's character in Black Panther.

[00:26:06] Oh yeah yeah I mean I think those two teaming up or something

[00:26:11] or even in Baku I mean you know Black Panther for a little bit.

[00:26:14] Don't tease me Ryan because I would pay all the money

[00:26:19] to watch in Baku take on the Black Panther mantle.

[00:26:22] I have no idea if he does it in the comics.

[00:26:24] I don't care because it's Winston Duke and I want him to do it.

[00:26:29] Actually this is a side piece of news but it looks like

[00:26:31] Boseman's final movie Ma Rainey's Black Bottom which I didn't

[00:26:35] realize was based on an August Wilson place and now I'm

[00:26:38] very excited for this movie but it got a trailer dropped.

[00:26:42] Trailer looks awesome and it's been getting really good buzz

[00:26:45] so I wouldn't put Chadwick Boseman out of the Oscar

[00:26:49] race for a posthumous win.

[00:26:51] So that could be a fun an inspiring win and then we'll move

[00:26:57] over from Black Panthers to Predators.

[00:27:01] We're going to get another Predator movie.

[00:27:06] Shane Black already tried.

[00:27:08] Yeah but they got Dan Trachtenberg he's pretty great filmmaker.

[00:27:12] I know this is the thing we've got 10 Cloverfield Lane

[00:27:15] director Trit Dan Trachtenberg to a new Predator movie.

[00:27:20] And yeah I don't mind actually I need to rewatch Shane Black's

[00:27:25] Predator because I don't remember not having fun with it.

[00:27:28] But Dan Trachtenberg scared the shit out of me with 10

[00:27:31] Cloverfield Lane as did he pretty much everybody on this

[00:27:34] show so I am very very excited to see what he does with

[00:27:38] this and then we'll move on to another piece of casting

[00:27:43] news Stranger Things season 4 has announced some new cast

[00:27:46] members and one of them tickles me to no end.

[00:27:50] Robert England is coming to the cast of Stranger Things.

[00:27:54] This is cool.

[00:27:55] This is really cool.

[00:27:56] Now you have my full attention Stranger Things and then

[00:28:01] they're also going to be adding new series regulars Jamie

[00:28:05] Campbell Bauer and Eduardo Franco.

[00:28:08] I want to know who Robert England will play though.

[00:28:10] I don't know who he'd play.

[00:28:12] I mean Fred Krueger.

[00:28:17] He can do more than just that.

[00:28:18] He was Willie and V the mini series dude.

[00:28:23] And I know I'm pulling out of like the doldrums of the late

[00:28:28] late 70s early 80s for that one but dang man he's a fun actor

[00:28:32] regardless of he's dawning that burnt makeup.

[00:28:35] I agree.

[00:28:35] Yeah he's a great actor.

[00:28:38] We'll move into some other TV news Jeopardy will resume

[00:28:41] production and it will be filling the slot left

[00:28:46] behind by Alex Trebek in the moment of his passing with guest

[00:28:50] hosts one of which will be Ken Jennings which seems very

[00:28:53] appropriate.

[00:28:55] So that's good we'll get some more Jeopardy obviously that

[00:28:58] cash cow will never go away.

[00:29:00] And then we got two last piece of the news.

[00:29:03] This was a sad story but it was also very like it was like

[00:29:07] it it was bittersweet.

[00:29:09] So there was a terminally terminally ill fan of the

[00:29:13] Halloween series.

[00:29:16] And he David Gordon Green and Jamie Lee Curtis not only showed

[00:29:22] him Halloween kills but Jamie Lee Curtis officiated this fans

[00:29:28] wedding with his fiance before he passed away.

[00:29:32] And it was yeah I cried reading that those like one of the

[00:29:36] God damn it all the people behind this series are eternally

[00:29:40] wonderful people like I just I.

[00:29:44] That damn it did just move me to tears he the guy unfortunately

[00:29:48] had stage for esophageal cancer and he they Gordon Green

[00:29:53] managed his screening and then Jamie Lee officiated the ceremony

[00:29:57] and I just got damn it.

[00:29:59] This is also wonderful and sad at the same time.

[00:30:03] Guys Halloween kills for best picture just from that story

[00:30:06] alone.

[00:30:08] But and then the last piece of news which I was not expecting

[00:30:11] but I guess I also shouldn't be surprised at this point when

[00:30:14] this happens.

[00:30:15] So Conan O'Brien is ending his nightly TVS talk show but he

[00:30:19] will be but he will be moving over to HBO Max for a variety

[00:30:23] series which didn't see that one coming like the second half of

[00:30:27] that is what I didn't see coming but but yeah it looks

[00:30:30] like Conan O'Brien's going to be leaving his TVS 10 year

[00:30:37] and one of the things he said in a statement was in 1993

[00:30:41] Johnny Carson gave me the best advice of my career as soon as

[00:30:44] possible get to a streaming platform.

[00:30:48] Then I get to continue doing whatever the hell it is I do on

[00:30:51] HBO Max and I look forward to a free subscription.

[00:30:56] You know he was kind of signaling he was going to end

[00:30:59] it pretty soon when he switched the format and all that

[00:31:01] stuff so wasn't he going to be going like from nightly to

[00:31:05] like weekly or something like that like wasn't that was

[00:31:07] happening.

[00:31:08] He did.

[00:31:10] He went from an hour to 30 minutes where it's now just

[00:31:12] interviewing a guest for 20 minutes.

[00:31:14] Yeah that's right that's right that's right.

[00:31:16] Okay so but the variety show thing has me curious because

[00:31:21] I don't know I'm imagining O'Brien given his if you

[00:31:27] listen to his podcast Conan O'Brien needs a friend.

[00:31:32] He he's he's got clear knowledge of how you know TV

[00:31:35] comedy works and specifically like sketch comedy can

[00:31:38] work so like I'm actually excited to see what he would

[00:31:41] do with a variety show on HBO Max down for that and also

[00:31:45] we don't get a lot of variety shows these days and no

[00:31:48] singing competition shows don't count.

[00:31:51] And that's news.

[00:31:53] Cool.

[00:31:55] Some movies are coming out on Blu-ray.

[00:32:02] Well I think there's something for everybody here to some

[00:32:06] extent or another.

[00:32:08] We'll start with Mad Max is getting a 4k release from

[00:32:12] Keena Lorber so that's cool.

[00:32:15] This is like the is this like the second specialty label

[00:32:19] that Mad Max has gone to within the last 10 years because

[00:32:22] they were with a screen factory first.

[00:32:25] Yeah I have I have the screen factory one.

[00:32:27] Yeah I need that one in 4k.

[00:32:30] I don't know it's a fun movie.

[00:32:32] It's not great but it's a fun movie.

[00:32:35] I have the Blu-ray in the high octane collection that I was

[00:32:38] able to find at that thrift shop that I used to work at.

[00:32:41] So what's fun about is when his family gets killed is that

[00:32:44] the fun part?

[00:32:46] No it's but it's like it's a it's a it's a late 70s

[00:32:50] exploitation car movie like it's it's got it's it's got

[00:32:53] its fun moments but it is like yeah it does get brutal

[00:32:57] at the end because

[00:32:59] that's that's where Mad Max has to go before the

[00:33:01] wasteland fully envelops and becomes a post-apocalyptic

[00:33:05] zone that is the Mad Max world.

[00:33:10] We needed to start by establishing that society has

[00:33:13] crumbled and then the Beastmaster is coming to 4k

[00:33:19] from Vinegar Syndrome.

[00:33:22] All right.

[00:33:23] Yeah this is Don Coscarelli's film from 1982.

[00:33:30] This is not the like the Beastmaster cartoon or anything.

[00:33:35] This is just something he did.

[00:33:37] I am I am not Don Coscarelli knowledgeable.

[00:33:42] I still haven't seen the Phantasm movies.

[00:33:44] I've only seen like I guess it's Bubba Hotep is really

[00:33:46] the only thing I've seen but he's all right.

[00:33:50] Yeah I mean the Phantasm movies do have a following

[00:33:53] so I definitely need to check them out at some point.

[00:33:55] Yep they're okay and then we're getting some

[00:33:59] criteria is putting out an essential Felini box set.

[00:34:01] You get 14 movies from Federico Felini.

[00:34:04] So if you're a Felini fan Henry you're listening right.

[00:34:07] You can get that.

[00:34:09] There's also the complete collection of Buck Rogers in

[00:34:12] the 25th century coming from Keenell Lorber.

[00:34:15] You get the both seasons both seasons and the movie.

[00:34:21] So yeah that's cool.

[00:34:23] I've never seen the show but I know what I remember

[00:34:27] being referenced in Zach and Mary make a porno when

[00:34:30] they're talking about different sex toys.

[00:34:33] So that's that'll be interesting watch if I choose to pick it up.

[00:34:39] Keenell Lorber is also putting out the Lost Weekend from 1945

[00:34:43] with Ray Milan directed by Billy Wilder.

[00:34:45] This is an amazing film about an alcoholic who

[00:34:49] an alcoholic writer who goes mad and it's sort of based

[00:34:53] on Billy Wilder trying to reckon with the writing relationship

[00:34:59] he had with Raymond Chandler on Double Indemnity.

[00:35:02] There's a quote where he says I made this movie to explain

[00:35:05] Raymond Chandler to himself because Chandler was a big old

[00:35:09] alcoholic and then from 1936 Jean Harlow William Powell

[00:35:15] Myrna Loy Spencer Tracy all in libel lady you can get that

[00:35:18] from Warner Archive.

[00:35:19] You can also get the pirate which is a Gene Kelly joint

[00:35:23] that also has Judy Garland in it from 1948 you can check

[00:35:26] that out if you'd like Paramount is putting out a movie

[00:35:29] called We're No Angels with Humphrey Bogart which I am this

[00:35:33] is another Bogart blind spot for me so I'll have to seek it

[00:35:37] out and then we are getting a movie called Deadly Games

[00:35:42] in 4k from Vinegar Syndrome from 1989 the alternate name

[00:35:48] is Dial Code Santa Claus is this the one that they had the

[00:35:52] trailer for us in the Alamo last year Brad where the guy's

[00:35:56] trip where the kid is trip wiring Santa Claus all over

[00:35:59] the room.

[00:36:00] Yeah, I kind of want to see this movie.

[00:36:03] I'm sad that I didn't see it when it came to the Alamo.

[00:36:06] It's bad.

[00:36:08] Oh, it looked bad.

[00:36:10] I still want to watch it and then

[00:36:14] Cinema Paradiso is getting a

[00:36:18] reissue of the Arrow Academy release that it did so if you

[00:36:22] don't have Cinema Paradiso yet there's your chance and then

[00:36:26] this is a Robert Denney Jr. Pick Wonder Boys is getting

[00:36:31] I guess reissued from Paramount or is it never been on

[00:36:36] Blu-ray.

[00:36:37] Oh well then you can get Wonder Boys for the first time

[00:36:40] on Blu-ray it's been a while since I've seen that

[00:36:42] is that movie any so good Ryan.

[00:36:44] Yeah, that's good.

[00:36:45] I will it'll be here tomorrow by 8pm.

[00:36:48] I you know what I remember most about that movie was Bob Dylan

[00:36:52] getting his award via teleconference at the Oscars that

[00:36:55] year.

[00:36:56] Yep, that happened.

[00:36:57] Yep, that did and then better call Saul season 5 is coming

[00:37:01] to Blu-ray.

[00:37:02] So if you want to keep following Saul's adventures around

[00:37:04] you're more than welcome to I guess there was a delay

[00:37:08] because that Monty Python Flying Circus box set is coming

[00:37:11] out so yeah get out your fish slapping dance shoes and

[00:37:16] get ready to watch the Monty Python.

[00:37:18] And last but not least this is just for me I nobody else

[00:37:22] well maybe Henry will give a shit too but the Irishman is

[00:37:25] coming to Criterion tomorrow and I am going to the Barnes

[00:37:29] and Noble's right after work to pick that sucker up.

[00:37:32] So yeah, get the Irishman on physical media because

[00:37:36] then more lag in the middle of the three hours that

[00:37:38] that movie is that wonderful three hours and then that's

[00:37:43] Blu-rays.

[00:37:45] Cool, we watch films throughout the week and we're going to

[00:37:49] tell you about them in a segment we call What You Been

[00:37:53] Watching.

[00:37:54] So yeah this is just stuff we've been watching.

[00:37:59] Brad what did you watch this week?

[00:38:02] Not a lot at all really I watched a couple more SNL

[00:38:07] skits the best one I sent to you.

[00:38:10] I didn't expect it to go that way.

[00:38:14] Is this really going to be a dead poet society parody for

[00:38:16] like the whole thing and then glorious, glorious turn of

[00:38:19] events?

[00:38:20] It's really boring for the first like five minutes.

[00:38:23] Yeah it's like it's slightly funny like they're playing

[00:38:27] up the cheesiness of it but where is this going?

[00:38:30] The paper hat gag in the middle of it gave me a good

[00:38:34] chuckle but yeah it's a slow burn.

[00:38:37] It's like perfectly time comedy like you know if they played

[00:38:40] it out that long so that this single gag is so stupid but

[00:38:45] amazing.

[00:38:46] Yeah because it's unexpected that's why it's awesome.

[00:38:50] So yeah and then I think the last thing I don't think

[00:38:57] I talked about last week because I saw it midweek.

[00:39:01] Is the last thing I saw in theaters was Wolf Walkers?

[00:39:04] Yeah that was definitely you didn't talk about it.

[00:39:07] Yeah Corinne did right?

[00:39:08] Yeah.

[00:39:09] Yeah movies are pretty good.

[00:39:12] The story is very much very very similar to Princess

[00:39:17] Mononoke but it's the art that like really like sucks

[00:39:22] me in like this art style and like it's already

[00:39:27] beautiful but when you start to look at the details

[00:39:29] of they still have like the pencil sketches of the

[00:39:32] characters like underneath the coloring which you know

[00:39:38] probably in a Disney movie they'd be like oh that's

[00:39:40] a mistake someone should have raised that but it

[00:39:42] looks really it just goes really well with the style

[00:39:46] they have in that movie.

[00:39:49] About this girl who moves to a kingdom with her

[00:39:56] father and he hunts wolves for the king and she

[00:40:01] stumbles on to a feral girl in the woods who is kind of

[00:40:09] leading the wolves while her mother's gone and they

[00:40:13] kind of you know once they set aside their differences

[00:40:16] they become friends they kind of set it on this

[00:40:19] mystery like where's her mother at and like what's

[00:40:22] the king up to and all that very much if you watch

[00:40:25] Princess Mononoke it kind of plays out in a similar

[00:40:29] way that's a little more like the villain is definitely

[00:40:33] more villainous than say I think Lady Aboshi is in

[00:40:38] that movie but very similar themes but yeah it's

[00:40:41] the art style that really is worth watching the most

[00:40:45] it's beautiful so that's all I watched.

[00:40:51] Zach?

[00:40:53] I didn't watch much either.

[00:40:55] I rewatched the social network which I met to

[00:40:58] do before 2010 film explosion but I didn't get around to it.

[00:41:02] That movie is still fucking perfect.

[00:41:05] I stand by my number one choice on it that still

[00:41:08] engrossing like still captures your attention from

[00:41:11] the minute it starts to the minute it ends.

[00:41:14] I was actually like really paying attention to

[00:41:16] Armie Hammer in it because there had been some

[00:41:20] stories resurfacing about how they pulled off

[00:41:23] the special effect with it and I'll say like

[00:41:26] it's a beautiful piece of filmmaking from Fincher

[00:41:31] to create that twin version for Hammer and have

[00:41:36] that other actor basically playing the double in it

[00:41:39] for him so it's still remarkable.

[00:41:43] I actually entered Garfield like I don't remember

[00:41:51] pegging that he was going to be the breakout star

[00:41:54] of that movie because it's interesting to see

[00:41:56] the trajectory of both him and Eisenberg because

[00:41:59] Eisenberg didn't really get super huge off of this

[00:42:03] movie like the only big thing that he got after

[00:42:08] it I guess would have been Batman v Superman

[00:42:11] because other than that he was doing a lot of

[00:42:13] indie stuff right?

[00:42:15] Unless I could be wrong but like Garfield then

[00:42:18] Garfield then exploded into Spider-Man and

[00:42:21] you know I'm not the biggest fan of those

[00:42:23] Spider-Man movies but he's fine in them like he's

[00:42:25] super likable in them and then going into

[00:42:29] working with Scorsese and then also doing

[00:42:32] Hacksaw Ridge like the trajectory seems so weird.

[00:42:36] I'm actually surprised that Justin Timberlake

[00:42:38] didn't get a bunch of acting offers after this

[00:42:40] that weren't kid friendly fare because he's

[00:42:43] fucking amazing in that movie.

[00:42:45] It's kind of wonderful that he's playing

[00:42:48] an interpretation of the person that basically

[00:42:51] ruined the record industry.

[00:42:54] So it's a nice piece of casting on Fincher's part

[00:42:57] and the Sorkin cameo gave me a giggle this time

[00:43:02] around that it hadn't before because he's just

[00:43:05] I love how he ends the scene with like what is

[00:43:08] this? Why are you kids wasting my time with

[00:43:13] your dumb platform? And I agree with James

[00:43:16] we need a follow-up in the light of what

[00:43:18] Facebook has become since the ten years that

[00:43:21] that movie's been around.

[00:43:23] And then I rewatched The Irishman on Netflix

[00:43:25] for the last time because after this it's

[00:43:27] nothing but physical media for me on that movie.

[00:43:30] And yeah I mean I've talked enough about

[00:43:32] that movie I don't need to talk anymore

[00:43:34] about it. And then the last thing that

[00:43:36] I saw was Alex Gibney's new docked

[00:43:39] Poetler Control which was a film that he

[00:43:43] made amidst the growing concerns and then

[00:43:47] the eventual where we're at now on the

[00:43:49] COVID-19 virus. And it's very interesting

[00:43:53] how the film's put together because he's

[00:43:56] very transparent with how his crew is

[00:44:01] keeping guidelines and keeping safety

[00:44:04] guidelines in place to film the interviews

[00:44:07] with people. He's doing the interview

[00:44:10] remotely. He has a crew that is set up

[00:44:13] with a barrier between them and they really

[00:44:16] just go through the point by point on how

[00:44:19] the virus developed where we got to

[00:44:22] and where we're at now. Like the film

[00:44:25] literally ends with a title card of like

[00:44:28] just before the completion of this,

[00:44:31] just as this movie was completed President

[00:44:33] Trump was diagnosed with COVID-19. So it's

[00:44:36] a really good dock. It's really focused

[00:44:38] on not just the administration at hand

[00:44:41] but more frankly it is about the

[00:44:45] how scientists were trying to mobilize

[00:44:48] and doctors were trying to mobilize to get

[00:44:50] tests going and how there were

[00:44:53] errors abound in the results of that.

[00:44:56] And it's a pretty fascinating dock.

[00:44:59] It's not the best thing Alex Gibney's done

[00:45:01] but given how much time he had to do it

[00:45:04] I'm pretty impressed by how everything

[00:45:07] was put together. So I'd check it out.

[00:45:10] It's certainly not irrelevant like

[00:45:13] because everything it's a good primer of

[00:45:16] what this has become and it's actually one of those

[00:45:19] it's a film that when I saw it I was like it's interesting

[00:45:22] that film itself has developed

[00:45:25] where now we can have a documentary about

[00:45:28] an event like this because nobody made a documentary

[00:45:31] back in 1918 about the

[00:45:34] flu pandemic that was going on then obviously

[00:45:36] since there was no sound technology but also like

[00:45:39] you know there's film clips, there's photographs

[00:45:42] but we don't have like a documentary

[00:45:45] to give us that insight

[00:45:47] apart from a PBS dock so it's interesting

[00:45:50] to have an of the moment here's what's going on

[00:45:53] in the world right now record for the future.

[00:45:56] So yeah I'd check it out if you're interested

[00:45:59] and that's all I watched this week.

[00:46:02] Cool yeah I didn't watch too much either

[00:46:05] I got the office box set so I watched the first

[00:46:08] season of The Office which might sound like a lot

[00:46:10] but it's only six episodes.

[00:46:13] Yeah looks good in HD.

[00:46:16] The first season there's maybe two episodes

[00:46:19] that are pretty good the rest kind of just

[00:46:22] get by. I've also been

[00:46:25] rewatching Friends and it always cracks me up

[00:46:28] because Friends was broadcast

[00:46:31] its first I think seven seasons

[00:46:34] in standard television format before you know

[00:46:37] there's high def and

[00:46:40] then it switched to high def but on the blue

[00:46:43] rays in HD

[00:46:46] upgrades later they switched it to

[00:46:49] 16.9 which they were filmed

[00:46:52] in and then they were trimmed in

[00:46:55] for television

[00:46:58] but when they do that you can see like

[00:47:01] marks and things on the floor

[00:47:04] where the set ends it's kind of funny

[00:47:07] I guess it gives it charm

[00:47:10] I don't know. Hey you get to be on the set of Friends

[00:47:13] Ryan. Yeah you could you be

[00:47:16] anymore excited for being on the set

[00:47:19] I need to rewatch Friends. Yeah

[00:47:22] Friends is a great show. Yeah it's fun.

[00:47:25] I watched Twins which made

[00:47:28] its Blu-ray debut last week

[00:47:31] and the movies

[00:47:34] okay

[00:47:37] the only bummer is I mean it looks

[00:47:40] pretty sharp in HD but you can tell it's an old master

[00:47:43] and they didn't like re-scan it at all

[00:47:46] but the movie is still fun and harmless

[00:47:49] and you go back and think it was Schwarzenegger's first

[00:47:52] comedy

[00:47:55] I think right after this he did Kindergarten Cop

[00:47:58] both by Ivan Reitman if I remember correctly

[00:48:01] and they do have an interview with Ivan Reitman on it

[00:48:04] which is pretty fun and he talks about

[00:48:07] how it's one of his most loved movies that he made right after Ghostbusters

[00:48:10] and

[00:48:13] it is kind of one of those movies that is fun

[00:48:16] and harmless

[00:48:19] I don't know if it's like a great comedy

[00:48:22] but it's funny

[00:48:25] you know then it's kind of sad Kelly Preston's in it

[00:48:28] and when they did the interview with Ivan Reitman

[00:48:31] she passed away like two days before so they touch on

[00:48:34] her passing. I mean the Shout Factory

[00:48:37] Blu-rays I think it's only $15

[00:48:40] and it comes with two interviews one with the writer

[00:48:43] one with Ivan Reitman

[00:48:46] and it's a fun movie. Schwarzenegger

[00:48:49] and DeVito have a pretty good time in it

[00:48:52] and I watched The Strangers

[00:48:55] the Scream Factory

[00:48:58] one that movie is still pretty great

[00:49:01] it has a new 2K scan on it it looks pretty good

[00:49:04] and you know if it's a transfer yet or

[00:49:07] I'm sorry what?

[00:49:10] you haven't watched that transfer yet?

[00:49:13] no no it's um so yeah I have

[00:49:16] I'm about three movies behind of my Scream Factory

[00:49:19] Crypt so I really gotta get caught up on it

[00:49:22] but I've been really digging into the special features

[00:49:25] on the movies that I need to

[00:49:28] put it on I mean

[00:49:31] I got really burnt out on it not because the movies are bad

[00:49:34] but

[00:49:37] the rules run red and there's six commentaries on it

[00:49:40] and getting through all of them

[00:49:43] so I had to watch the movie seven times

[00:49:46] is a chore so I've only done like three of them

[00:49:49] so I kinda got burnt out

[00:49:52] on the Scream Factory Crypt for a second just because

[00:49:55] of that but I'm starting to get back into it

[00:49:58] because it leads me

[00:50:01] to my the last thing I watched this

[00:50:04] week I think

[00:50:07] oh no I watched two more things I'm sorry

[00:50:10] one of the last things I watched is John Carpenter's Vampires

[00:50:13] is another Scream Factory release

[00:50:16] good for you

[00:50:19] Gaines Woods is a vampire slayer

[00:50:22] hired by the Vatican to eradicate vampires

[00:50:25] in New Mexico

[00:50:28] and it's kind of

[00:50:31] a western movie with

[00:50:34] vampires in it

[00:50:37] I do like the soundtrack from

[00:50:40] or the score that John Carpenter does it kinda has a nice

[00:50:43] twangy guitar to it

[00:50:46] he was really experimenting with that stuff in the 90s

[00:50:49] because he has a little bit of that in the score for Escape From LA as well

[00:50:52] yeah I mean it works really well for the movie The Tone Set

[00:50:55] right? the makeup effects by K&B

[00:50:58] are really great in it

[00:51:01] I mean it's goreier than I remember it being

[00:51:04] I haven't seen it in a long time it gets brutal man that massacre

[00:51:07] in the fuckin' motel room

[00:51:10] that shit's nuts

[00:51:13] and I love too it's I think it came out in 97 or is it 98

[00:51:16] Zach I can't remember it's 98 because it's number 10

[00:51:19] on my 98 list gotcha

[00:51:22] so it's 1998

[00:51:25] I forgot like you know it was cool for

[00:51:28] James Woods to call the father's Padre

[00:51:31] I'm like man this movie is kinda dated

[00:51:34] and so much too as some of James

[00:51:37] Woods dialogue is really bad

[00:51:40] the way he treats

[00:51:43] the hooker he calls her like

[00:51:46] the most horrible names and he smacks her around

[00:51:49] I go wow this is not

[00:51:52] the best hero

[00:51:55] and a preview of things to come

[00:51:58] in the interview with Carpenter and his wife

[00:52:01] I really love his wife on interviews and commentaries

[00:52:04] because she really remembers

[00:52:07] things really well and she kinda helps him stay focused

[00:52:10] and stuff but they talk

[00:52:13] about how it was kinda hard to work with James Woods

[00:52:16] cause he's so intense and

[00:52:19] you can see that come across in his performance

[00:52:22] but he says Padre all the time

[00:52:25] and it's just I don't know the movie is fun

[00:52:28] there's lots of violence, lots of death

[00:52:31] it's a very slick fun

[00:52:34] vampire western like that's all

[00:52:37] I wanted out of it that's all I got out of it and I like it

[00:52:40] yeah I forget

[00:52:43] the guy who plays Valic the main vampire

[00:52:46] but it's cool hearing

[00:52:49] Carpenter talk about his reasoning cast him because he's a really good

[00:52:52] martial artist so he liked how he could move

[00:52:55] and things like that

[00:52:58] and it comes across in his performance he's a pretty good vampire

[00:53:01] yeah so it's a fun movie

[00:53:04] just be ready for some really coarse language

[00:53:07] that hasn't aged that well

[00:53:10] it's Thomas Ian Griffith

[00:53:13] also Terry Silver and Karate Kid Part 3

[00:53:16] that's right so yeah so he is good

[00:53:19] martial arts

[00:53:22] and the last thing I watched is Death's Tree Rides Again

[00:53:25] from Criterion starring James Stewart

[00:53:28] and Marlene Dietrich

[00:53:31] a film I've never seen but

[00:53:34] based on the reviews

[00:53:37] of everyone watching the disc

[00:53:40] and reading Leonard Malton's book

[00:53:43] about how great it is I blind bought it

[00:53:46] not this

[00:53:49] half off criterion but I think it was in July

[00:53:52] was the other half off criterion

[00:53:55] so I got it then and I finally put it in

[00:53:58] yeah the movie is awesome

[00:54:01] James Stewart plays a

[00:54:04] lawman who comes to

[00:54:07] the bottleneck city

[00:54:10] and do they ever say

[00:54:13] what town it's in I don't think so

[00:54:16] I don't remember

[00:54:19] but it's bottleneck anyways the one sheriff is killed by

[00:54:22] the

[00:54:25] head outlaw out there I can't remember his name off the top of my head right now

[00:54:28] anyways he's killed by the head outlaw

[00:54:31] they named the town drunk the new sheriff

[00:54:34] because they figure that he won't do anything to them

[00:54:37] because he's too drunk but literally they know

[00:54:40] that he decides he's going to stop drinking and be serious

[00:54:43] about his job as a lawman so he has

[00:54:46] Thomas Jefferson Destry come

[00:54:49] to town who is the son of

[00:54:52] a famous outlaw named Destry and

[00:54:55] he doesn't have a gun

[00:54:58] he prefers to take down

[00:55:01] the bad guys through his being smart and the law

[00:55:04] and it's kind of a

[00:55:07] dark comedy and

[00:55:10] it plays really well on

[00:55:13] western tropes from the 30s

[00:55:16] and James Stewart is freaking amazing in it

[00:55:19] Marlene Dietrich is really great in it

[00:55:22] which I was watching the special features I guess

[00:55:25] is a big comeback for her

[00:55:28] because she had

[00:55:31] because this is post her Von Sternberg phase

[00:55:34] which you have that collection as well

[00:55:37] yeah but yeah I'm trying to remember why she

[00:55:40] had to need a comeback to begin with

[00:55:43] but yeah yeah yeah anyway

[00:55:46] I don't remember but the movie's really great and it's funny

[00:55:49] the action is actually really great in it

[00:55:52] you know everything's

[00:55:55] really really solid in the film

[00:55:58] and the criterion Blu-ray is

[00:56:01] pristine it looks so great

[00:56:04] I recommend anybody if you have if you like James

[00:56:07] Stewart or you like westerns or you just like classic movies

[00:56:10] that it's one you should not miss out on

[00:56:13] because the criterion is really great

[00:56:16] yeah it's a pick up

[00:56:19] it was on the voting list for

[00:56:22] the film club last week because it came out in 39

[00:56:25] and it was like such a stacked list of things

[00:56:28] to choose from and ended up being Mr. Smith goes to Washington

[00:56:31] but Destry is really fun

[00:56:34] I told you in a text message I said every time I watch a movie from 1939

[00:56:37] I'm more and more convinced it's probably the best year ever

[00:56:40] it is like I can I have on my shelf

[00:56:43] like at least 5

[00:56:46] 39 movies that are considered absolutely excellent

[00:56:49] I was telling you like on at some point

[00:56:52] on yesteryear I want to do a 1939 film

[00:56:55] explosion of sorts with you and like one other guest just to fill the room

[00:56:58] and just go over like see who

[00:57:01] what our picks are from that year

[00:57:04] actually I forgot something that I rewatched

[00:57:07] this week which is only

[00:57:10] Angels Have Wings I watched the criterion version

[00:57:13] because I hadn't seen the movie on the criterion version before

[00:57:16] that is the best way I've ever seen that movie

[00:57:19] period but that

[00:57:22] I am just floored by

[00:57:25] like the more I keep going back into grant

[00:57:28] the more I'm like man he literally was able to do everything

[00:57:31] but Gene Arthur my new

[00:57:34] the more I'm watching Gene Arthur these days the more I'm like you know what

[00:57:37] that's the woman I want to marry

[00:57:40] Gene Arthur is just like my screen crush

[00:57:43] I'm like I'm through at this point and also

[00:57:46] Sig Ruhman he plays the

[00:57:49] the head of their their plane outfit

[00:57:52] who's handling the business end but obviously he's not

[00:57:55] because he's losing money left and right

[00:57:58] but it's Sig Ruhman getting to play

[00:58:01] a role that's not a bumbling upstart

[00:58:04] who's like you know getting befuddled by the Marx brothers

[00:58:07] like he's really earnest in it I was like I just

[00:58:10] I loved going back to that movie like yeah

[00:58:13] that's a pretty heavy movie too oh yeah

[00:58:16] and it's like it's one of the special features was

[00:58:19] describing it's like you are brought into that world it feels

[00:58:22] like an exotic world that you would want to hang out in

[00:58:25] and they pointed out like Howard Hawks is really good at doing that

[00:58:28] because I'm like yes I like the environment

[00:58:31] in Rio Bravo I would want to be there

[00:58:34] not maybe in the middle of the gunfight but you know

[00:58:37] like but yeah no that transfer looked incredible

[00:58:40] like I'm glad I picked that one up

[00:58:43] but yeah cool yeah 1939

[00:58:46] and that's what I watched this week

[00:58:49] sweet our film of the week

[00:58:52] is

[00:58:54] 2020's Rebecca

[00:58:57] Brad should people stream Rebecca

[00:59:00] yeah I think so

[00:59:03] it's a pretty good flick I can't imagine

[00:59:06] you could do another version of this ever

[00:59:09] yeah it's the best version of this story

[00:59:12] that has ever been made

[00:59:15] Zach?

[00:59:17] Is there a way to virtually strangle somebody over the

[00:59:20] over Zoom?

[00:59:23] Why is my opinion not valid?

[00:59:25] No it's valid it's totally valid

[00:59:27] because you might be surprised what I'm about to say

[00:59:30] um yes

[00:59:32] because it's Netflix and you are able to

[00:59:35] see it without having to pay anything extra

[00:59:38] um

[00:59:40] I really really tried to put

[00:59:42] my predilection to the Hitchcock version

[00:59:45] aside I've still never read the novel

[00:59:48] um this version has its

[00:59:51] good points I think that my biggest problem with it

[00:59:54] is that it's in too much of a hurry

[00:59:56] and that it doesn't this this particular

[00:59:59] version of Rebecca from 2020

[01:00:02] is it another one?

[01:00:04] Yes from 1940

[01:00:06] directed by a certain person

[01:00:09] who wasn't going to appear on this show until he was forced

[01:00:12] to

[01:00:14] damn it

[01:00:16] I didn't know that man well I'm glad they did because

[01:00:19] I mean it's probably way better in color anyway

[01:00:22] god damn it

[01:00:28] um no my

[01:00:31] I mean I will say that every actor in this film

[01:00:34] is giving it their A game I just I felt like there was

[01:00:37] something off in it but I think in order to really detail

[01:00:40] it we'd have to get to the spoiler section so but yeah

[01:00:43] I'd check it out for curiosity's sake alone so

[01:00:46] um yeah I mean I think you should stream it

[01:00:49] except when I started to stream it it said just so you know

[01:00:52] Netflix is going to 1349 a month starting December

[01:00:55] 14th I was like fuck you Netflix

[01:00:58] I'm getting the Irishman on Blu-ray

[01:01:01] um but

[01:01:04] I think it's a movie you can stream

[01:01:07] um I don't

[01:01:10] I mean it's it's pretty good

[01:01:13] um it does have

[01:01:16] some issues that we'll talk about in the spoilers

[01:01:19] um but I it's better than I thought it was

[01:01:22] going to be and uh anyways I have a huge crush on

[01:01:25] Emily James so it doesn't really matter because I'll

[01:01:28] stare at her for two hours any day of the week

[01:01:31] um here's the trailer I know right

[01:01:34] here's the trailer for Rebecca

[01:01:38] the terror sees four guests on me

[01:01:44] the young lady will be joining me

[01:01:47] what do you do?

[01:01:49] I'm a ladies companion

[01:01:51] Maxime de Winter has died last year and is in dire need of company

[01:01:54] I'm a Monsieur de Winter

[01:01:57] what are you doing?

[01:02:00] now we all see

[01:02:04] this week

[01:02:07] I'd like to never forget it

[01:02:10] come to Manderley

[01:02:13] I'm asking you to marry me you little fool

[01:02:16] Mrs de Winter may I present Mrs Danvers

[01:02:21] welcome to Manderley

[01:02:24] I've never seen a house like this

[01:02:31] oh I'm sorry I thought you'd been a ladies maid

[01:02:34] this is all very new to me

[01:02:37] I'm sure you weren't disappointed Mandermyth that's your concern

[01:02:40] we did a lot of entertaining

[01:02:43] when the late Mrs de Winter was alive

[01:02:46] you can talk to me about her

[01:02:49] I have no secrets from you

[01:02:52] all marriages have their secrets

[01:02:55] has Max ever talked to you about the accident?

[01:02:59] I don't know what you're talking about

[01:03:02] how am I supposed to know anything if you don't tell me

[01:03:05] she's still here

[01:03:07] can you feel her?

[01:03:10] she was the love of his life

[01:03:17] I wonder what she's thinking about you

[01:03:20] taking her husband

[01:03:22] using her name

[01:03:25] he doesn't love you

[01:03:32] I said I want the truth

[01:03:35] you didn't know her

[01:03:37] you know what he did

[01:03:40] he can't go on living in that big old house with a ghost

[01:03:44] I don't believe in ghosts

[01:03:47] Rebecca tells the story of a young woman

[01:03:54] who meets a dashing young man at Monte Carlo

[01:03:58] and they fall in love

[01:04:00] and she goes to Manderley

[01:04:03] the most wonderful place on earth

[01:04:05] where he lives

[01:04:07] and when she's there

[01:04:10] she finds that his deceased wife

[01:04:14] is very well loved in the house

[01:04:17] and she doesn't know if she'll ever measure up to

[01:04:21] the greatness that is Rebecca

[01:04:23] what is great about Rebecca in both versions

[01:04:26] is that she plays a villain

[01:04:29] and she's never in the movie

[01:04:31] her presence is felt throughout the film

[01:04:34] in both versions

[01:04:36] and I thought that was something that this version did well as well

[01:04:40] yeah, oh yeah

[01:04:42] does a good job at not trying to...

[01:04:45] what I loved is that I put that as our film of the week

[01:04:49] and a lot of people that worked on the film retweeted my tweet

[01:04:53] so that was nice

[01:04:55] like the cinematographer

[01:04:57] and one of the writers

[01:04:59] I swear only you have that power because when I do it

[01:05:02] silence

[01:05:04] well, it's how you word it Brad

[01:05:06] I don't know

[01:05:07] clearly you have the gift

[01:05:09] I truly do

[01:05:11] I mean

[01:05:13] Michael Gakina is a fan of ours now

[01:05:17] yep

[01:05:18] yeah, he's like wow thank you so much for saying my work on

[01:05:22] let him go made a difference

[01:05:25] which it is, it's great

[01:05:26] maybe I'll find to get a great gig

[01:05:28] man if you can only take that stepping stone to the next level

[01:05:33] in his career

[01:05:35] does Tom Cruise have a Twitter?

[01:05:37] he does

[01:05:38] okay, the moment he retweets you or acknowledges you

[01:05:42] that's the moment when you could just die happy right?

[01:05:44] but does Tom Cruise actually use Twitter?

[01:05:47] I'm guessing it's somebody

[01:05:49] I think he's too busy getting into ridiculous stunts

[01:05:52] that make him look amazing and at the same time also break his leg

[01:05:56] Twitter is not dangerous enough for him

[01:05:58] yeah

[01:05:59] people like

[01:06:01] Rod Stewart

[01:06:03] his publicity team runs it

[01:06:05] but if it's something he writes he signs it like

[01:06:07] RSXX

[01:06:10] so he might have

[01:06:12] something where you know that it's from Tom Cruise or something like that

[01:06:16] I wish he signed it the stew man

[01:06:19] yeah

[01:06:20] um

[01:06:21] anyways

[01:06:23] Rebecca

[01:06:24] Rebecca

[01:06:25] you know the thing

[01:06:27] the movie is really well made

[01:06:29] I mean it's nicely shot

[01:06:32] I think the thing that I miss most about

[01:06:37] the film

[01:06:38] which it'll never be able to shake

[01:06:41] it being a remake of one of Hitchcock's most famous and

[01:06:45] well loved films

[01:06:46] is it doesn't have the gothic feel

[01:06:49] of the original

[01:06:50] it's more of

[01:06:52] kind of a romantic murder mystery

[01:06:55] you know

[01:06:56] yeah

[01:06:57] it doesn't have that

[01:06:59] the gothic intonation

[01:07:01] and it doesn't feel like things are truly haunted in it

[01:07:05] yeah

[01:07:06] can we really touch briefly on like there's

[01:07:10] she has

[01:07:11] in this version the second Mrs. de Winter has visions throughout

[01:07:16] like that come in fast montage

[01:07:19] and there's one where she's pulled through like

[01:07:22] a

[01:07:23] bed of vines into the ground like so like but it never feels like the house

[01:07:28] actually haunted

[01:07:29] like I don't know exactly what it is because like they set it up

[01:07:32] but it doesn't feel that way

[01:07:35] um

[01:07:36] yeah and I also

[01:07:37] like I like Armie Hammer but I thought he was really boring in this movie

[01:07:41] um

[01:07:42] I don't know

[01:07:44] he doesn't

[01:07:45] I don't

[01:07:46] I didn't dislike him in this movie

[01:07:48] I think that the issue is that

[01:07:51] it's

[01:07:52] it's weird because this is a version like this is something I was

[01:07:56] I realized that would definitely be an angle to this is that

[01:07:59] this is a version of Rebecca where we would actually get to see

[01:08:03] romance

[01:08:04] like that is not just you know

[01:08:06] a long passionate kiss like these guys

[01:08:09] you know are making sexy time regularly throughout this movie and

[01:08:13] I think part of my

[01:08:15] hesitation with Armie Hammer ends up

[01:08:18] he starts off really good in the Monte Carlo stuff

[01:08:22] but then as he gets to Manderley

[01:08:24] his character switch never feels quite right where he suddenly goes to the

[01:08:29] because in the original version

[01:08:32] Olivier is always on edge even as he's being charming to Joan Fontaine

[01:08:38] in this one he seems really laid back and then he just shifts all of a sudden

[01:08:42] in a way that doesn't feel natural to

[01:08:46] what Maxim would be thinking

[01:08:49] into my mind because

[01:08:51] again like this film also like this film starts right off the bat with

[01:08:56] the Monte Carlo stuff

[01:08:58] and show a shot of Maxim de Winter you know about to jump off a cliff

[01:09:03] so and actually the cliff stuff is reserved for Mrs. Danvers at the end

[01:09:08] but so like I kind of got the sense that he shifts in the weirdest way

[01:09:13] but his moment in the Boat House when he gives the confession

[01:09:18] and in this version he does

[01:09:21] he basically does kill Rebecca whereas in the original he

[01:09:26] it's an accident

[01:09:28] and I think he's actually really good in that moment especially when he grabs the gun

[01:09:31] and is loading it and explaining to

[01:09:34] the second instance which I think he's really good in that moment

[01:09:37] but again as we've been talking about like it just feels like he's not all the way there

[01:09:42] Yeah Brad you haven't seen the 1940 Rebecca

[01:09:47] what did you like about the 2020 version?

[01:09:52] Overall I thought the mystery was really good

[01:09:57] when you talk about the house not feeling haunted I actually felt like

[01:10:01] you know it doesn't feel haunted like in a gothic sense

[01:10:04] it's just more of a I definitely feel the weight of this

[01:10:07] like this notable woman that everyone in the community

[01:10:15] is just like enamored over

[01:10:18] Yeah

[01:10:19] It feels like her presence is in the movie very much

[01:10:24] The only thing I didn't really like

[01:10:28] I actually felt like the flashback or the dream sequence stuff was kind of

[01:10:34] unnecessary

[01:10:36] Yeah I thought it was really hokey too

[01:10:38] the one where they're at the ball and they're chanting Rebecca

[01:10:42] and it's changing colors from red and blue

[01:10:45] I thought was really just way overdone

[01:10:48] I was wondering why that was there

[01:10:51] and I haven't seen a lot of Ben Wheatley's work so I don't know if this is something he does on the regular

[01:10:56] He did Free Fire right?

[01:10:59] Yeah I saw him in the scene Free Fire

[01:11:01] Oh sure it's awesome

[01:11:03] Yeah

[01:11:04] But yeah like for the most part the movie works just fine as like

[01:11:09] just a straight up cinematic experience and then they see dream sequences start to happen

[01:11:13] and it just seems like they're trying to justify an inflated budget

[01:11:17] Yeah

[01:11:18] Or like I don't know I haven't seen the other one you said there was dream sequences in that

[01:11:22] I think they should just left it out because I think it was effective without them

[01:11:26] In the original there isn't

[01:11:29] I was wondering if this was like something from the book because in the movie they don't

[01:11:33] the only dream sequence is the same one that we have at the beginning of this one

[01:11:37] where she is they say like last night I dreamt of Manderley again

[01:11:41] That's the dream but in this version they've just stuck a bunch of those montages of like

[01:11:46] flashes of scary imagery in there that feel weird

[01:11:49] Yeah and then Lily James character there's like

[01:11:53] this is like a two hour 20 minute 10 minute movie

[01:11:57] It's two hours and one minute

[01:11:59] There's like a lot of scenes of her like snooping

[01:12:04] and then apologizing for getting caught snooping

[01:12:06] Yeah

[01:12:07] Like the 10th time she'd stopped doing that

[01:12:10] So I just frustrated the whole time of like you know you already got busted for looking at his book

[01:12:16] and then you drop the porcelain whatever statue and hit it

[01:12:24] Like you could have easily just said like oh yeah I was chasing the dogs and they hit the table and it fell off and stuff like that

[01:12:30] Or you'd just be like I'm the lady of the house now so go fuck yourself

[01:12:34] Which we don't really get that same moment in this movie that we get in the original with her saying

[01:12:41] I am Mrs. DeWinter now

[01:12:43] Like there because when she goes to fire Mrs. Danvers in this version

[01:12:49] She then gets basically side-swiped by the revelation which again

[01:12:54] I since I haven't read the book I don't know if this is what the case is with Mrs. Danvers but she's

[01:13:03] Been a part of this house and part of Rebecca's life for years and

[01:13:09] The thing that I took out of it was like it's a weird way to

[01:13:16] Transition into what becomes the the the mandorlai ball sequence

[01:13:22] Where obviously she you know puts on the the dress that in this version it's the ant

[01:13:28] But like she puts on the dress and Maxims pissed off about it and he goes take that fucking dress off

[01:13:33] And so like it just felt weird whereas like in the original

[01:13:38] She asserts her authority Mrs. Danvers backs down and they're still at odds with each other

[01:13:44] So she's like a persistent villain and in this one it feels like Mrs. Danvers becomes like

[01:13:49] She tries to play even further mental tricks on the second Mrs. DeWinter

[01:13:54] Which is just feels for whatever reason it feels weird and again

[01:13:57] I'm trying not to bring my baggage in on the 1940 film, but it's very very tough because

[01:14:02] The both of them pretty much follow the same line of thought and line of story for the most part

[01:14:09] Except this version obviously is a little bit more able to do the things that are directly from the book

[01:14:15] That Hitchcock wouldn't have been able to do because of state and local sensors at the time

[01:14:22] So but you know anyway I've rambled on long enough Brad what else did you like about the movie?

[01:14:28] I mean like I said the mystery most of it and so I've sitting there most of the time like wondering

[01:14:34] You know through the whole like dating sequence and then moving to Mandorley or whatever

[01:14:38] I was like like where's this story going? Like what's going to be special about it?

[01:14:43] And I was kind of figuring you know I bet the husband killed her and everyone's hiding it

[01:14:50] And so after a couple misdirects I was like okay I was right

[01:14:56] This is where this was going and I mean not everybody's hiding it it's just like everybody is

[01:15:03] Everyone's withholding information like and also that's the frustrating thing too is like how much maximum

[01:15:11] Maximum to winter

[01:15:15] Maximus to winter

[01:15:18] Yeah like there's just so many like sequence like if people just talk to each other

[01:15:23] Like so many things just be avoided so that's kind of frustrating is when

[01:15:27] Yeah happens just like

[01:15:30] Like I got back to Lily James like she's making this mistake because you won't tell her about your dead wife at all

[01:15:35] Like how she's got another painting

[01:15:38] I get why Lily James' character is you know I didn't know I was making a mistake but you know

[01:15:45] Armie Hammer's dude is going take it off but he doesn't explain why

[01:15:50] Yeah just pissed off and if you're like a real person say hey

[01:15:54] You probably should man my dead wife or that that's really upsetting that you're wearing that

[01:15:59] Yeah where she would get that idea

[01:16:01] Oh yeah Miss Danvers told me to do it

[01:16:04] Get the fuck out of here Miss Danvers

[01:16:08] Again they both both films follow this this template from Daphne de Morier's book

[01:16:15] They it that happens in the original version but it just feels more appropriate whereas in here like Armie Hammer's performance isn't justifying his temper tantrum

[01:16:27] Which whereas Lawrence Olivier's is feels justified or at least workable

[01:16:34] Because yes it's very clear from the moment you step foot in front of Miss Danvers that she's the devil's henchman

[01:16:41] So like you know I but yeah yeah anyway

[01:16:46] You know what I'm talking about oh sorry go ahead

[01:16:49] Yeah like a long time ago I like I think James is talking about the movie on the podcast

[01:16:54] And so I was trying to remember this of his view and like the only thing I can remember was I think he said something about like Rebecca was two people

[01:17:01] So that was like writing with me the whole time of like especially at the end when Lily James like wakes up after the fire and they're like in Cairo

[01:17:11] It's like oh my god this is gonna be like she was imagining this whole thing the whole time and she is Rebecca

[01:17:20] Like just having a dream about someone else so there was that too

[01:17:25] So I was kind of like on it a little bit on edge about that like oh is this gonna be like another reveal

[01:17:31] So yeah

[01:17:33] Well you didn't see the end title card that said Rebecca will return and you know

[01:17:38] I mean I mean I thought it was completely inappropriate for Nick Fury to ask Rebecca to join the Avengers

[01:17:45] I just thought that was completely inappropriate

[01:17:48] But can we talk about the finale a little bit because the one of the

[01:17:55] So like amongst my issues is that I feel like this film is a little bit too quick

[01:17:59] Quick with its editing and a little and doesn't let things breathe as much as I'd like them to but

[01:18:04] My biggest complaint is that this is a damn three hours

[01:18:08] Yeah

[01:18:09] No no but like it just feels like things could have been like it feels like we're moving from scene to scene super quick

[01:18:15] Without any breathing room whatsoever like I don't feel like I get a lot of a lot of room to breathe here in this movie

[01:18:22] And let those performances sink in but so Mrs. Danvers sets fire to Manderley much like in the original version

[01:18:29] In the in this version I wasn't a fan of Mrs. Danvers just jumping off the cliff

[01:18:34] I would have preferred her to burn in Manderley like in the original like

[01:18:39] I know that Ben Wheatley wanted to go a different direction and hitch talk

[01:18:43] But I'm like yeah, but I would love to see Kristen Scott Tom Thomas's version of Mrs. Danvers going up with the flames of Manderley too

[01:18:52] Like that I don't know this kind of like it just put me off a little bit

[01:18:57] In my version they would show up and it would be burning and Miss Danvers would be running out on fire to scare everybody one last time

[01:19:05] Kind of like Clarice Leachman in high anxiety before she falls off the tower

[01:19:10] I never run out and like scream and then all of a sudden her head would just roll off because it burnt off

[01:19:20] She just she just yells Rebecca

[01:19:23] That's why I don't make movies

[01:19:27] And then they put her burn skeleton on the ship that sank and then ship it back at me

[01:19:33] So she can be with Rebecca

[01:19:37] I wanted to do a dialogue touch up on this film after Maxim and the second Mrs. Dwinter have sex he can go you just got Manderleyed

[01:19:45] Yes

[01:19:46] I suspect that like the editing is doesn't let things breathe is because I'm guessing that being on Netflix

[01:19:54] The editors are starting to go back to the TV style where if people are at home like if you provide any lulls they may drift away from the programming

[01:20:03] Whereas if it was in a theater, you know, you're kind of trapped

[01:20:06] You're stuck in that experience so I think yeah they might be adopting a television style of editing where you constantly have to have things happening

[01:20:15] That's moving along

[01:20:17] Interesting point I didn't think of I also guess since I haven't seen Free Fire or any of the more like a majority of Ben Wheatley's fair

[01:20:26] I guess I need to go back and watch some of his stuff and see if his editing style is kinetic or anything

[01:20:33] Well, it's Free Fire is definitely kinetic

[01:20:35] Well, I would imagine from the trailer

[01:20:37] Free Fire is only like an hour and 20 minutes

[01:20:39] Yeah, okay

[01:20:40] It's basically like one long scene

[01:20:43] Okay

[01:20:45] I'm trying to think if I've seen a Ben Wheatley movie now

[01:20:47] God damn it

[01:20:48] Other than other than Rebecca

[01:20:52] All right, Ben Wheatley thawing next for Zach

[01:20:55] But I mean like I still recommend people watch it if they like if they're not if they have no interest in watching the Hitchcock version

[01:21:03] Like some people I know

[01:21:05] They can check this one out and it will tell the story for them just fine

[01:21:12] I think what you miss

[01:21:14] There are two different filmmakers doing two different versions of this film and I don't hate Ben Wheatley's version at all

[01:21:21] But it's not the one I would probably go back to immediately

[01:21:24] He's directing Tomb Raider 2 and Meg 2

[01:21:28] Meg 2?

[01:21:30] Yeah, the trend

[01:21:32] Really? Wow, okay

[01:21:34] Cool

[01:21:35] I liked the Meg

[01:21:38] He doesn't have a ton of big-name movies, but he's done some episodes of Doctor Who and

[01:21:46] Oh ABC's The Death segment, segment U

[01:21:49] Okay, then I have seen Ben Wheatley thing

[01:21:53] But yeah, I mean, I don't know

[01:21:55] I mean like and again it's Netflix you're not paying anything so you can

[01:22:00] And I think Kristen Scott Thomas is a good Mrs. Danvers

[01:22:03] Like I think she is really good at pulling off the creepy charm there

[01:22:08] And

[01:22:10] I liked Lily James a lot as second Mrs. DeWinter

[01:22:14] Like she was the reason I kept focus on the movie

[01:22:17] It's because she's she is a very she gives a very good performance in the film

[01:22:22] Yeah

[01:22:25] The real question is what did I think of it?
