[00:00:23] Hi, my name is Paul Corolli and I host a podcast called Changing Denver.
[00:00:27] It's a monthly show about our city's physical spaces, how we make them and how they make us.
[00:00:32] But it's so much more than that!
[00:00:34] It's the conversations, ideas and stories that define Denver's perpetual state of flux.

[00:01:11] Hi, I'm Amanda Connor.
[00:01:13] And I'm Jimmy Palmiotti and you're listening to Reel Nerds Podcast.
[00:01:33] Reel Nerds Podcast
[00:01:43] Welcome to Reel Nerds Podcast, unofficially the official podcast of Denver Comic Con 2018.
[00:01:51] And beyond, I am Ryan and we have a small group today.
[00:01:54] I'm joined by James and Zach.
[00:01:56] James, you all right today? You seem a little down, buddy.
[00:01:58] I'm good.
[00:01:59] I'm good, yeah.
[00:02:00] I was having it, yes.
[00:02:01] It's been a rough weekend.
[00:02:03] For anybody who was listening six months ago or five months ago, I sort of re-triggered my vertigo during the night.
[00:02:09] Oh, bummer.
[00:02:10] And so, yeah, I had a weekend that has been a little bit iffy.
[00:02:14] But I feel fine now.
[00:02:15] I'm so glad I don't suffer from anything but being awesome.
[00:02:20] The only time I get sick, I just stop being sick and be awesome.
[00:02:23] I have painful gas, but we each have our own thing.
[00:02:26] I went waterskiing yesterday and I had gone waterskiing in 20 years.
[00:02:30] Man.
[00:02:31] My dad used to be really cool and he was single.
[00:02:34] And he would take us, do you know where Stanley Lake in Westminster is?
[00:02:37] No, I don't.
[00:02:38] So he would buy a pass all summer and he would take us almost every day waterskiing.
[00:02:41] And we got really good.
[00:02:43] Cool.
[00:02:44] But my brother Nathan just bought a new waterski boat and he finally got us up there and, dude, I'm bad.
[00:02:52] It's like you're trying to remember everything you have to do.
[00:02:56] Yeah.
[00:02:57] And I think with waterskiing, as anyone ever waterski, so it's tough.
[00:03:03] It's not an easy sport.
[00:03:05] It's not like doing an inner tube.
[00:03:07] You're being pulled at 30 miles an hour by a boat.
[00:03:09] So you're holding the rope.
[00:03:11] You have to keep the ski in front of you, stand up and then pull the rope back to you so you can keep going.
[00:03:17] It's a lot more complicated than that.
[00:03:19] And trying to remember how to do it, I couldn't.
[00:03:22] And like I would get up and just eat shit.
[00:03:24] And so today, like halfway through my work day, like my left groin muscles like tightening up so tight right now.
[00:03:33] Like I look like I'm a geriatric patient.
[00:03:35] And I feel like so stupid.
[00:03:38] I'm like, I don't know if I'm older.
[00:03:40] I'm just like, I've not used these muscles in this way in a long time.
[00:03:43] Yeah.
[00:03:44] And then, you know, they also had a tube and, you know, they say don't go over 20 miles an hour on it.
[00:03:49] But of course we're stupid.
[00:03:51] Yeah. Of course you do.
[00:03:53] And so I just got this shit kicked out of me.
[00:03:55] And I'm dumb.
[00:03:57] So when I start to fall on the tube, I try to hang on.
[00:04:00] Yeah.
[00:04:02] Science doesn't work that way.
[00:04:05] If you're being dragged through the water at 25 miles an hour.
[00:04:09] While you're like hitting the water and you're trying to hang on.
[00:04:13] It doesn't work.
[00:04:14] But for some reason every time I'm like, I can do it this time.
[00:04:17] Your tube's underwater.
[00:04:18] You're being dragged underwater.
[00:04:20] And you just eventually just have to let go because you'll be dead if you don't.
[00:04:24] Yeah.
[00:04:25] No, it's fun though.
[00:04:26] Yeah.
[00:04:27] It's fun reliving that.
[00:04:29] Well, I have to, my brother, they got this really cool reservoir where they pay for it.
[00:04:35] And they have this their own little like section.
[00:04:37] Oh, wow.
[00:04:38] And they have this little thing like you can camp there and.
[00:04:40] That's cool.
[00:04:41] If you want to go up sometime, I'm sure.
[00:04:42] Yeah.
[00:04:43] I've been eating.
[00:04:44] Anyways, I have the company just at the gate.
[00:04:46] So we can go any time we want.
[00:04:48] So you're saying I shouldn't bring you to the beach and have you jump over a shark
[00:04:52] and recreate the best happy days moment ever.
[00:04:54] It's always happening.
[00:04:55] The worst.
[00:04:57] So bad that it actually created a saying.
[00:05:00] Yeah.
[00:05:02] Just in case you're wondering, yes, we are real nerds because every week we go see a new movie
[00:05:05] and we podcast our experience of the world.
[00:05:07] You two saw the dark tower.
[00:05:09] Oh, shit.
[00:05:10] I really didn't have time and I also got a ultra HDTV.
[00:05:14] So I was just fucking around.
[00:05:16] Oh, yeah.
[00:05:17] And I did it out of order.
[00:05:20] So Laura, my wife, who's a wonderful person said, I know you really want one.
[00:05:25] You can get one, but you have to sell your other one first.
[00:05:30] I said, OK, so I got this month is my birthday.
[00:05:34] Who cares?
[00:05:35] But Best Buy sent me like a 10% off.
[00:05:38] Yeah.
[00:05:39] Like coupon plus if I use my Best Buy credit card, I get additional 20% off.
[00:05:42] Yeah.
[00:05:43] So I got $1300 Samsung TV for like $700.
[00:05:47] Holy shit.
[00:05:48] That's awesome.
[00:05:49] And so I got that and the ultra Blu-ray player for 4K player.
[00:05:53] Yeah.
[00:05:54] It ended up costing me like 11 something.
[00:05:56] Yeah.
[00:05:57] It cost me more because I bought Laura fucking HD Amazon Kindle.
[00:06:02] Oh, they had a specially order like you couldn't even get them on Amazon.
[00:06:05] It's weird.
[00:06:06] Weird.
[00:06:07] I wonder if it's specifically designed for Best Buy.
[00:06:09] I don't know whatever.
[00:06:11] So I got that and then I went to the lake and I was trying to figure out if I could
[00:06:15] work it in, but I just didn't run out of time.
[00:06:18] It's OK.
[00:06:19] But I did watch Resident Evil Final Chapter and 4K.
[00:06:21] Won't you be interested to see whether or not Zach and I liked it?
[00:06:24] I liked it.
[00:06:25] I am interested because I've heard not good things about it.
[00:06:29] So we also talk about whatever movie news we have.
[00:06:32] Blu-rays are coming out, stuff we've been watching throughout the week.
[00:06:34] And then sometimes I just ramble like I did when we opened the show.
[00:06:37] So what kind of TV did you get?
[00:06:39] A Samsung, whatever their newest one is.
[00:06:43] Cool.
[00:06:44] I didn't get the curved 55.
[00:06:46] Sure.
[00:06:47] I didn't get the curved one.
[00:06:48] Yeah.
[00:06:49] It looked cool, but I asked the guy, I said, what's the difference?
[00:06:52] Nothing.
[00:06:53] He says, yeah, it looks curved so it looks cool.
[00:06:56] I said, OK, well, I usually sit center.
[00:06:59] It's hard to look at it and look at it at an angle.
[00:07:01] Yeah, so they look really cool.
[00:07:02] But I was in the store like moving around.
[00:07:06] And I'm like, no.
[00:07:07] But it is the highest end of Samsung you can get without it being like $5,000.
[00:07:13] Right.
[00:07:14] So because I'm not, so I mean, I want a nice TV, but I'm not going to drop
[00:07:18] half the price of a car on the TV.
[00:07:20] Because it may be that in five years they do come out with something else
[00:07:23] and you're like, oh man, I want that new product.
[00:07:25] Yeah, and they will.
[00:07:26] And my wife will get mad at me because I want to get it.
[00:07:28] Yeah.
[00:07:29] So if anybody wants, so if you want a 55 inch LG high-def TV.
[00:07:33] That's a nice TV.
[00:07:34] That has, that will come with a 3D Blu-ray player with 4K upscaling.
[00:07:39] Oh.
[00:07:41] $300, just let me know.
[00:07:43] See, I'm looking to get rid of mine because I have, she doesn't listen.
[00:07:47] I have a year before I get married to buy some of the things that I don't
[00:07:50] want to have to ask for later.
[00:07:52] So I'm like, oh man, I get that 4K TV.
[00:07:55] It's not 4K though.
[00:07:57] The old one.
[00:07:58] No, I mean, that's why I'm not going to buy yours because I'm like,
[00:08:01] I'm looking to get rid of mine.
[00:08:03] So if you want, I mean it's a really nice TV, but it's not 4K.
[00:08:06] I would love to get it just so my parents can be like,
[00:08:09] can we watch TV?
[00:08:10] And I'll be like, no.
[00:08:12] Yeah, it comes with the Blu-ray player and like $300, I think it's pretty good.
[00:08:16] Is it a 3D Blu-ray player?
[00:08:17] Yeah.
[00:08:18] Oh wow.
[00:08:19] It's not, the TV is not 3D though.
[00:08:21] Oh, well okay.
[00:08:22] Because they don't make them anymore.
[00:08:23] Right.
[00:08:24] Yeah.
[00:08:25] Which makes my recent purchase today or yesterday.
[00:08:27] Honestly, I still buy the 3D ones because one, I think eventually they're going to
[00:08:31] the next 4Ks or 8Ks are put out.
[00:08:33] I think there can be glasses free 3D.
[00:08:35] Yeah.
[00:08:36] And because the 4K Blu-ray player I got is also like 3Ds built into it.
[00:08:41] So I mean you could still future cruise yourself.
[00:08:44] Yeah, they're still doing it.
[00:08:45] Yeah.
[00:08:46] They're just not producing the TVs anymore.
[00:08:47] Okay, I understand.
[00:08:48] I think eventually they will but I've never had a TV this fancy so I mean I've had nice
[00:08:53] TVs but this is like a really nice one.
[00:08:56] And so I open it up and to put in the stand you literally just like underneath it you
[00:09:01] just slide in the like the, I have brackets I guess.
[00:09:05] Yeah.
[00:09:06] And they're like chik chik.
[00:09:08] And then you stand it up and on the side of the TV they have these like cushion
[00:09:13] like black things so you can grab the TV without touching the TV.
[00:09:16] So I save those because I'm a genius.
[00:09:20] And I turned it on and it's like, welcome to Samsung.
[00:09:26] It's so nice.
[00:09:28] Thank you Samsung.
[00:09:29] And you set it up and it's a smart TV and like the only thing.
[00:09:35] Would you like to watch boobs Ryan?
[00:09:37] Pretty much.
[00:09:38] So I have Xfinity and it recognized my router, my Ethernet, my Internet, the cable
[00:09:47] box and so I can control it through an app on the TV but it's hard to use because
[00:09:54] like the remotes are so modern they have like five buttons on it.
[00:09:57] So you have to select the guide on the TV and kind of shuffle through it
[00:10:01] that way so it looks cool but it's a little cumbersome.
[00:10:04] Yeah.
[00:10:05] But I mean I guess if you're like an idiot old person who's just like, oh I don't
[00:10:09] I just want to hit this button and it brings up Xfinity.
[00:10:12] Yeah.
[00:10:13] That it's easy and it has like voice activations and you can say Samsung Xfinity.
[00:10:16] What?
[00:10:17] Well ever since the days of VHS players where you had old people trying to set
[00:10:21] the clock on it they've since tried to figure out how to best that
[00:10:25] technology and they finally did it right.
[00:10:27] And it's really cool though because it says it has four HDMI ports but it's
[00:10:33] a connector that goes to the back of the TV and it's like a little box,
[00:10:38] a Samsung box and it's called the Samsung Smart Connect.
[00:10:42] So I hooked up my PlayStation and stuff to it and I turned on the PlayStation
[00:10:46] and I think the screen for Samsung comes up like we recognize your PlayStation 4.
[00:10:50] Would you like to play?
[00:10:51] What?
[00:10:52] Wow so you didn't have to do any other setup?
[00:10:54] No.
[00:10:55] That's awesome.
[00:10:56] Like automatically it'll change the inputs by itself.
[00:10:58] Based on just whatever you try to have.
[00:10:59] Just whatever button I push.
[00:11:00] That's cool.
[00:11:01] And the only bummer with 4K Blu-rays is they don't put any of the special features on them.
[00:11:05] Oh really?
[00:11:06] I'm guessing because it's the movies in it so much and I'll talk about the
[00:11:09] watching something in 4K but what's really cool is because it's a smart
[00:11:13] Blu-ray player too is you turn it on and it has like title screens
[00:11:17] and it has this really cool thing that Amazon does where if you push pause
[00:11:22] it'll tell you who's in like on the screen.
[00:11:25] So it's like Mila Hovavich and things like that.
[00:11:27] Yeah.
[00:11:28] It's stupid and not necessary but it's cool.
[00:11:31] That's Skynet man.
[00:11:33] And I was playing Injustice on it.
[00:11:35] I was like oh my god.
[00:11:37] These like my PlayStation 4 looked really good on my other TV.
[00:11:41] Yeah.
[00:11:42] But this is at like 2160 I think.
[00:11:44] Yeah.
[00:11:45] And my other one was like 1060 so it was double.
[00:11:47] You know it's more than double.
[00:11:48] Like the visual output.
[00:11:50] Yeah.
[00:11:51] You're like wow.
[00:11:52] Eventually you'll be able to go into the game.
[00:11:53] I know of my wife's like I don't see a difference.
[00:11:55] You don't.
[00:11:56] Like the colors are so much more bright.
[00:11:58] Yeah.
[00:11:59] And like skin tones are really it's weird.
[00:12:01] Like it takes a little bit to get used to.
[00:12:03] Yeah.
[00:12:04] Because it has that remember the hobbit.
[00:12:05] It has the hobbit feel to it.
[00:12:07] Yeah.
[00:12:08] Where it looks so amazing.
[00:12:09] Like this isn't right.
[00:12:11] I haven't led to believe.
[00:12:13] How do I make this look dirty you're in worse.
[00:12:16] Yes.
[00:12:17] I don't like this.
[00:12:18] How can I make this not the New Jigsaw trailer?
[00:12:20] See I'm also on the boat like some people get mad at Disney for like Pinocchio
[00:12:23] where they clean it up so much.
[00:12:24] Sure.
[00:12:25] But I think it looks amazing.
[00:12:26] Yeah.
[00:12:27] Because I think it should look good.
[00:12:28] Yeah.
[00:12:29] Absolutely.
[00:12:30] I don't mind like the scratches and pops and stuff like you know Friday the 13th
[00:12:33] because I don't mind that lo-fi stuff.
[00:12:35] Right.
[00:12:36] I want to look good.
[00:12:37] You know with Disney like you would imagine Walt Disney would want to look as
[00:12:40] possible.
[00:12:41] Oh yeah.
[00:12:42] He'd want it to look just like the animation sales for sure.
[00:12:43] Yeah.
[00:12:44] Knowing Disney and knowing the sweat box.
[00:12:46] Yeah.
[00:12:47] I'm almost certain that he would fully embrace 4k and.
[00:12:50] Just imagine him in the sweat box calling it doesn't look right.
[00:12:52] Oh Walt's pissed again.
[00:12:54] Uncle Walt.
[00:12:55] Yeah that's pretty cool.
[00:12:57] Man is in the forest.
[00:12:58] Man is in the forest.
[00:12:59] Well you guys talk about whatever and I'm sure that my city run Amazon looking
[00:13:02] at 4k TV so.
[00:13:03] Yeah.
[00:13:04] Right.
[00:13:05] Honestly I wasn't even going to.
[00:13:07] I was going to get one but I didn't know when I wanted to.
[00:13:10] But when it was all said and done.
[00:13:12] And I paid for it.
[00:13:13] God I save like 750 bucks.
[00:13:15] Yeah.
[00:13:16] So I'm like and my wife came home and she's like oh you like your new TV.
[00:13:20] And I'm like oh my God.
[00:13:21] Probably because I let her paint a room purple.
[00:13:25] She wants me to go to IKEA after this and pick up a freaking bookcase but I think I'm not going
[00:13:29] to make end time.
[00:13:30] They close at 7 30.
[00:13:32] Sorry honey.
[00:13:33] Sorry honey I had to give Zach a ride home.
[00:13:36] Yeah.
[00:13:37] Doesn't mean it turns out they close at 5 on Sundays.
[00:13:41] Weird.
[00:13:42] Really website says nine.
[00:13:43] Oh sorry that's only on August 6th.
[00:13:46] Weird.
[00:13:47] Yeah it's very bizarre.
[00:13:49] It's called their ha ha your American holiday.
[00:13:53] Yeah I was really close to getting a Sony one but they're more expensive because I love Sony
[00:13:59] products when it comes to.
[00:14:00] Well we got to make all their money back for losing it on the Olochi movie.
[00:14:04] Well I actually think they'll make money on it because I think it only cost 60 million
[00:14:08] to make.
[00:14:09] Right.
[00:14:10] And you know for some reason overseas people love that shit.
[00:14:12] I the secret life of pass almost made a billion dollars.
[00:14:15] Right.
[00:14:16] I go this movie is so dumb.
[00:14:19] How's it possible.
[00:14:22] And the thing is I think I'm an expert on this because I've seen it probably 18 times
[00:14:26] now.
[00:14:29] An apprehensive expert.
[00:14:31] But the animation yeah they found this niche in the movie going public which is really
[00:14:39] fascinating to me where they produced these animated films that look marginally better
[00:14:49] than like directed Blu-ray.
[00:14:51] They're passable for 70 million dollars and for some reason it's connected with audiences
[00:14:56] I like I don't mind the despicable me.
[00:14:58] Frances I think they're pretty fun.
[00:14:59] I do.
[00:15:00] I know you don't like them but I mean they're all right.
[00:15:02] I mean they're not yeah they're not like Shrek.
[00:15:04] They're harmless at the end of the day.
[00:15:08] I don't understand the connection with like the secret life of pets because it in essence
[00:15:14] it's like toy story but it's but it's poorly written poorly written.
[00:15:19] Yeah.
[00:15:20] Darker.
[00:15:21] Yeah.
[00:15:22] And they're talking about like killing people and I don't think Kevin Hart's a very good
[00:15:25] voiceover artist.
[00:15:26] I think he's funny but I don't think he I don't think he's right for roles.
[00:15:31] I liked him more in Captain Underpants than I did in Secret Life of Pets.
[00:15:36] Don't keep in mind I only saw 20 minutes of Secret Life of Pets before I said I don't have
[00:15:39] a kid.
[00:15:40] I don't have to sit through this.
[00:15:41] You don't have to see anymore but I think in Underpants he works well because.
[00:15:46] He has the attitude of a kid.
[00:15:48] Yeah exactly.
[00:15:50] Not some bunny that's trying to be funny.
[00:15:52] Not some bunny that belongs to the Black Panther movement.
[00:15:55] But you watch and the animation isn't quite as good.
[00:15:58] The story isn't quite as good.
[00:15:59] It felt kind of standard to me.
[00:16:01] I was like.
[00:16:02] And you it's there.
[00:16:04] It's like a really long episode of Star Night Live.
[00:16:06] It's like a skit to a skit to a skit with one overarching I guess it's like Mr. Show like
[00:16:12] with one overarching story.
[00:16:15] Yeah.
[00:16:16] And the story is about this dog who's adopted who's trying to get back to his old owner
[00:16:20] right and they're they try to get the sentimental thing with the owners died and he doesn't
[00:16:25] know it yet and it just doesn't work because the characters have not earned it's
[00:16:29] just anything Batman Superman between Captain America and Iron Man.
[00:16:32] They don't earn the right to fight.
[00:16:34] They don't earn the right to pull on your heart strings where Woody can just be given away
[00:16:38] by Andy at the end of fucking Toy Story 3 and I cry.
[00:16:41] You know we worked up to that and Pixar and Disney's animation is 30,000 times better.
[00:16:46] I know they spend more money on their stuff.
[00:16:48] Yeah.
[00:16:49] And it shows and I I don't know why these connect with people.
[00:16:51] I maybe someone can write into us and tell me why these secret life of pets connects
[00:16:55] with people.
[00:16:56] I wonder because I wonder what my dog does when I'm not at home.
[00:16:59] I would have to assume that it's basically just that like you need if you like you want
[00:17:06] something to distract your kid.
[00:17:08] Right because you've seen it 18 times because.
[00:17:10] Kellen likes to watch it but that's concluded my Netflix subscription.
[00:17:13] Oh I don't I've never I would never buy that blue.
[00:17:17] Yeah but if you look at other people who like for them their their standard is somewhat
[00:17:22] lower and they're like whatever like we take our kids to go see a movie and it's
[00:17:26] whatever dumb shit is out right now and they just don't tell the difference.
[00:17:29] They can't tell the difference like but I don't get it because I would never do that.
[00:17:34] Yeah I'd be like hey no you know what we're doing we're gonna stay home and you're gonna
[00:17:37] watch Batteries Not Included.
[00:17:38] Yeah there's plenty of good movies out there that a kid can watch.
[00:17:42] I don't know if I'm a bad parent because of it.
[00:17:44] Yes but I mean I you know Kellen wants to watch like Kong so I let him watch it
[00:17:48] yeah because I don't think it's scary.
[00:17:50] Right but you're not three.
[00:17:52] I'm not three but he watches it and he thinks it's cool.
[00:17:56] Yeah you know and he well you know because he's loved Jurassic Park forever so he
[00:18:02] doesn't understand I don't think he understands what's scary in him right.
[00:18:05] I think he understands that they're dinosaurs.
[00:18:07] But part of it is that he's young enough that the stuff that is scary you
[00:18:11] won't understand yet as he gets older I think that makes that may change.
[00:18:14] And I try honestly I don't want my kid afraid of stuff yeah especially
[00:18:19] that's not fake and this is no slight on my nephew but he's like afraid of mummies
[00:18:24] not like dead mummies that are wrapped he's afraid of like the mummies that come
[00:18:27] to life right and you have to tell him it's not real right because he watches
[00:18:31] some show on Discovery where it's like the mummies curse.
[00:18:34] Right and yeah you know did Hammers start doing stuff for Discovery.
[00:18:38] Well no but he like believes that stuff like mine doesn't fear of ET.
[00:18:41] Exactly right yeah and I don't want him to be like you know James or
[00:18:45] he's afraid of some fucking rubber goofy ass alien.
[00:18:49] I feel you man I'm scared of civil shepherd so.
[00:18:52] But you know it's not a slight on my nephew or his parents.
[00:18:55] No no no but there's also the inverse of that where I don't want to show him
[00:18:59] something that I'm going to scar him right because he's I'll talk about it
[00:19:03] and what we've been watching.
[00:19:05] He's starting to pay attention to things.
[00:19:06] Yeah that.
[00:19:08] Have you thought about showing them the Universal Monster movies
[00:19:10] or do you think that would be too far.
[00:19:11] I think they're too boring.
[00:19:13] Oh.
[00:19:15] For a three year old maybe some maybe he might like it.
[00:19:18] I don't know he might.
[00:19:19] It's not it's not a slight on the movie.
[00:19:21] It's a slight on the attention span of a three year old.
[00:19:23] Well maybe Wolfman maybe Wolfman or a creature from the Black Lagoon.
[00:19:26] I'm not talking like the smarter ones.
[00:19:28] Well I don't.
[00:19:31] I know what you're saying.
[00:19:32] I don't think there's enough action in them to keep him interested.
[00:19:34] That's that's fair.
[00:19:34] If you've seen if you're three and you've seen Jurassic Park
[00:19:38] are you going to care about the creature from the Black Lagoon that much.
[00:19:41] So I mean he doesn't even like Laura try to show him the land before time
[00:19:44] and he's like no.
[00:19:46] I'm like I want to watch T Rex eat goats.
[00:19:48] I don't want to.
[00:19:49] It's all I can think that is thinking.
[00:19:52] Because it's not quite intense enough.
[00:19:55] Yeah but there is a.
[00:19:57] He needs an adrenaline shot.
[00:19:58] Here's the thing is I think the monster violence is OK for my kid.
[00:20:02] Like are you setting him up for a certain level of failure
[00:20:05] where like when he's eight or nine you show him Jaws for the first time
[00:20:07] and he's like dad this is stupid.
[00:20:10] No shark is so fake.
[00:20:11] This isn't very interesting.
[00:20:13] Now that T Rex that ate that goat.
[00:20:16] What's really cool is when you get to a point with your child
[00:20:18] where he likes what you like.
[00:20:21] I the craziest thing.
[00:20:22] So I came home from work and I know I DVR stuff because I work
[00:20:27] and I sat down and I put on American Pickers and comes like daddy
[00:20:30] I want to watch American Pickers with you and he sits
[00:20:32] and watches American Pickers with me.
[00:20:34] That's no idea what's going on.
[00:20:35] I think he just wants to spend time with me and it's really cute.
[00:20:37] There you go.
[00:20:38] But you know I'm not going to show him like rated R stuff.
[00:20:41] Yeah.
[00:20:42] But I don't I'm trying to find where the limit on PG 13 intensity is for him.
[00:20:46] Kellen want to watch his wife shut.
[00:20:51] That would be way too boring.
[00:20:54] It's Tom Cruise movie.
[00:20:56] I tell you about 10 and then he's like can we watch as well.
[00:20:58] It would be awesome if he walked up to my wife and went Fidelio.
[00:21:03] I would cry.
[00:21:05] And wearing one of the masks.
[00:21:09] So that's what he goes Halloween Tom Cruise.
[00:21:12] For some reason Kellen has stopped wearing clothes everywhere.
[00:21:15] We don't know why.
[00:21:16] And that's been real news this week because there's absolutely nothing this week.
[00:21:22] But yeah so I haven't found the intensity level yet.
[00:21:24] That's too much for you'll find.
[00:21:25] I think it comes more like when they're four or five because they start
[00:21:28] becoming like I don't know if does he have if he has memories
[00:21:31] like when he started to read more.
[00:21:33] He does.
[00:21:33] But he's I think it's and I don't want to say it's because I'm like
[00:21:37] you know an awesome parent but like I don't like I have you know Jason
[00:21:41] Voorhees figures all over the place right and they're grotesque.
[00:21:44] Sure.
[00:21:44] So but he's not like afraid of him.
[00:21:46] And when he watches like King Kong he takes like his you know he has
[00:21:50] like a little monkey thing he's like he's not like yeah it doesn't scare him.
[00:21:55] He thinks it's cool when he like eats the octopus.
[00:21:57] Yeah.
[00:21:58] You know so I don't know I don't know yet.
[00:22:01] Think about keeping it in the monster mayhem kind of thing.
[00:22:03] I think I'll be all right.
[00:22:04] Monster really is really cool when he eats the octopus.
[00:22:07] Yeah.
[00:22:07] Yeah I mean as long as you don't like it's the it's the truly terrifying stuff.
[00:22:11] Yeah that's and yeah so I mean obviously I don't do like the hardcore
[00:22:16] horror stuff I don't do alien I don't do show them lights out.
[00:22:19] Yeah I'm like because you know like alien where it's just the I think
[00:22:22] yeah I'm alien.
[00:22:23] Yeah I think the intensity were for Jurassic Park so for the intensity
[00:22:26] in that.
[00:22:27] Well and to some degree all that movie is is what if dinosaurs
[00:22:31] and then you watch dinosaurs right.
[00:22:33] It's not quite the same as like the deep seated horror of this thing
[00:22:39] you can't understand.
[00:22:40] Yeah that's what I mean because I mean obviously it's radar so I
[00:22:43] won't show them anyways but.
[00:22:45] I don't know if you like dinosaurs.
[00:22:47] Yeah and that's the thing is I don't know.
[00:22:48] I just want him to pull seven off the shelf with it when
[00:22:51] you're not home right and then you come in and come in the
[00:22:54] door like hey come on home.
[00:22:55] What's in the box.
[00:22:58] Oh shit.
[00:22:59] I'd be fun.
[00:23:01] I explain this to Laura.
[00:23:04] It's not my fault.
[00:23:05] It's working for you.
[00:23:05] It's fault.
[00:23:06] So that's what I'm working on right now because I don't want to
[00:23:08] scare him right but also my parents never censored me from
[00:23:13] stuff right as far as I can remember if I went to the
[00:23:16] video store with my mom and I wanted Child's Player Friday
[00:23:19] the 13th she never said no right.
[00:23:22] I kind of had to learn to censor myself.
[00:23:24] You know not because my like an ox and she's a bad ranch.
[00:23:27] She's like OK if you if you think you can handle it then.
[00:23:31] And you're the one who doesn't sleep for a week because you're
[00:23:33] afraid of your dolls coming to life but maybe you should not
[00:23:37] watch that shit.
[00:23:37] It's interesting because I always say I don't think I've
[00:23:39] ever really been scared.
[00:23:41] I think I just enjoy the ride.
[00:23:43] Yeah it's a weird.
[00:23:45] I don't know how to describe it.
[00:23:46] Yeah something more or less there's theme park attractions.
[00:23:48] Yeah they just have a story attached to them.
[00:23:50] And now you have a psyche into Ryan and the limits he's trying
[00:23:54] to see how far his kid can watch stuff.
[00:23:56] Yeah but it was also cool I was reading so I got Kellen this
[00:23:58] new book and it's called Night Night Groot and it's little baby
[00:24:03] Groot and he's like going on an adventure and I like a
[00:24:07] tear went down my eyes is no joke.
[00:24:09] The last page you turn to it and Rocket says boy Groot
[00:24:14] you had a busy day and Kellen like pointed at all the
[00:24:18] superheroes and named everyone.
[00:24:20] Hell yeah.
[00:24:21] He's like Groot Captain Marvel Spider-Man and I put it is like
[00:24:25] he's like Nova.
[00:24:27] Oh my shit man because I mean I go through the book I'm like
[00:24:30] Nova I don't I mean I read the story but I point out things
[00:24:33] but he's able to retain and recognize them.
[00:24:35] Yeah and I was going to get rid of my comic book cards
[00:24:39] but now I'm going to keep them and give them to him so he
[00:24:41] can read about it and like help him read and understand
[00:24:44] and then he's like this century and you're like no
[00:24:47] no never.
[00:24:50] Daddy Venom's my favorite.
[00:24:52] Get out of this house.
[00:24:53] I have failed as a father when my nephew it reaches a certain age
[00:24:57] I'm just going to pull out an encyclopedia of old time radio
[00:24:59] and be like Jack Benny.
[00:25:04] Unki Zach whips out his lighter and likes the book on fire.
[00:25:08] So Zach if you want to get them involved in stuff you got
[00:25:11] to ease into it.
[00:25:12] No I know.
[00:25:13] So you know a Spider-Man I'd get him shirts and things like
[00:25:16] that now he recognizes Spider-Man so he likes Spider-Man.
[00:25:19] Jack Benny's dead in the water then there's no such thing as
[00:25:21] a Jack Benny shirt because he's not a school spider.
[00:25:24] You just got to like what if they teamed up creepily sneak
[00:25:28] into his room at night and play Jack Benny radio while
[00:25:30] he's sleeping in.
[00:25:31] I'm not that cruel.
[00:25:34] I saw an article I read I forgot to send it to you.
[00:25:36] I forget what it was even for.
[00:25:37] I hope he's a Star Wars fan.
[00:25:38] That's all I can say.
[00:25:40] That be pretty.
[00:25:40] Benny no he was not.
[00:25:43] I can't like what is a Star War.
[00:25:45] I'll try to he likes Guardians of the Galaxy so.
[00:25:48] The scary thing is when they like much like Layla when they
[00:25:51] will watch a Star Wars and be like my favorite characters
[00:25:54] Darth Vader what.
[00:25:56] Interesting.
[00:25:58] Yeah who.
[00:25:59] Kelly calls she doesn't even know the other characters names.
[00:26:02] I did make just like Kylo Ren.
[00:26:03] So when I yeah when I play injustice Kelly called Sub Zero
[00:26:07] Darth Vader.
[00:26:08] It's funny.
[00:26:09] That's pretty cool.
[00:26:09] I'm like who is the.
[00:26:11] Do you like Ray who is that.
[00:26:12] I like Kylo Ren.
[00:26:14] No.
[00:26:15] I did tell my sister I texted her when I am so I'm like we're
[00:26:18] when we show Mattis Star Wars it's going to be his name.
[00:26:21] We show Mattis Star Wars were showing him the one we saw first
[00:26:24] was his name.
[00:26:25] Is he is going to be Mattis Mattis.
[00:26:27] Yes but he's going to be exposed to a new hope first
[00:26:31] and then watch him the proper way.
[00:26:33] The the laser disk edition.
[00:26:35] I wish.
[00:26:36] I can't find there is a like I'm not made of money.
[00:26:39] No I know there is a proper edit you can torrent from the
[00:26:41] Internet where they make money off to Wombly all you as fucking
[00:26:44] talk about it.
[00:26:45] They there's a there's an edit you can I talked about it like
[00:26:48] a year ago where they they edited together the best shots
[00:26:53] of the laser disk version and the best shots of the
[00:26:56] remastered VHS version that you can like you can find it
[00:27:00] online but that's the only way to watch like what would
[00:27:03] theoretically be the highest quality version of Star Wars.
[00:27:07] I mean I mean when the time comes like six years from now
[00:27:10] you should you should do it properly.
[00:27:12] We'll see maybe I'll make my own decisions.
[00:27:15] Hey look where it's got you.
[00:27:20] Do we have any other news James.
[00:27:22] Oh yeah I'm just burning like no we really don't.
[00:27:25] There was a trailer for Goodbye Christopher Robin which looks
[00:27:29] really good.
[00:27:29] It's a movie about the creation of Winnie the Pooh.
[00:27:32] It basically looks like.
[00:27:34] Shoot finding Neverland.
[00:27:35] But with Winnie the Pooh.
[00:27:36] It's finding Neverland with Winnie the Pooh.
[00:27:37] Yeah we should care about.
[00:27:39] Yeah yeah.
[00:27:40] So.
[00:27:42] Saving Mr. Banks but with Winnie the Pooh.
[00:27:44] But no Tom Hanks so.
[00:27:46] But it's got Dom Hulkelieson from from the X Machina.
[00:27:50] Sure.
[00:27:50] And the Star Wars.
[00:27:52] Still still no Tom Hanks.
[00:27:55] He has a cameo as Winnie the Pooh.
[00:27:58] Stephen King talked a lot about the Dark Tower TV show.
[00:28:02] Okay he's delusional.
[00:28:04] Well that's what the headline says.
[00:28:05] I'm not making any.
[00:28:06] No I know.
[00:28:07] I'm actually excited to see it.
[00:28:09] Because I think the trailers are really good.
[00:28:12] Even I am excited to see it because it's for some reason they've
[00:28:15] nailed a tone in the trailers.
[00:28:18] I mean that movie I think is gonna be pretty big.
[00:28:20] Well and those characters look interesting.
[00:28:21] Well that's the thing is that I'm like oh man I want to
[00:28:23] see these kids like beat up this clown.
[00:28:25] I think yeah I think they're doing it right as they're
[00:28:28] shooting they shot this one they're shooting the second
[00:28:30] half of the book where they're adults.
[00:28:32] Yeah.
[00:28:32] Which spoilers I don't like the book it.
[00:28:38] It's 1200 pages and you probably edit 800 of them out.
[00:28:41] Sure.
[00:28:42] Well that's every Stephen King novel written after Carrie.
[00:28:44] I know like I've always said my favorite is Psycho of the
[00:28:47] Werewolf because it's a novella and it's 120 pages long.
[00:28:50] Yeah.
[00:28:50] And because he gets to the point of the fucking story.
[00:28:53] Werewolves are bad.
[00:28:54] Werewolves are bad especially when they're a priest.
[00:28:56] I've not read it.
[00:29:00] But I'm so curious about this new iteration of it that I
[00:29:05] rented the miniseries with Tim Curry.
[00:29:07] I'm going to watch it this week.
[00:29:08] I don't know it's got a cult following so I'm gonna watch.
[00:29:10] It's huge.
[00:29:12] I'm not a fan but you might be.
[00:29:14] I'm gonna watch it this week and see what I think of it.
[00:29:16] I'm gonna not do that because I want this cool looking
[00:29:20] version too because I've known nothing about the story other
[00:29:23] than there's a spider at the end.
[00:29:25] So I'm gonna wait and hopefully have it which obviously
[00:29:29] wouldn't be in this movie but still I'm gonna wait and have
[00:29:32] whatever it is revealed to me in time.
[00:29:35] It is it.
[00:29:36] I mean I'm sold right away and it's kids in the 80s.
[00:29:38] I'm like oh yeah.
[00:29:39] No it's obviously like it's Stephen King doing stranger
[00:29:42] things.
[00:29:43] You know you're like oh yeah okay this is.
[00:29:45] Remember when Stephen King was cool.
[00:29:46] Which I'm for the record highly aware of the fact
[00:29:49] that what I just said is the inverse.
[00:29:51] Yeah.
[00:29:52] Yeah.
[00:29:52] Anyway stuff.
[00:29:54] Yeah there genuinely wasn't a lot of money for someone.
[00:29:56] You know I did hear that like through the grapevine that
[00:29:58] there might be a criterion of night of living dead coming
[00:30:00] out.
[00:30:00] Oh I've heard too.
[00:30:02] Like they did a 4k restoration of it.
[00:30:04] Yeah.
[00:30:05] And it's they showed in like three or four theaters and
[00:30:07] I and Romero saying it looks amazing and I heard
[00:30:10] criterion is going to be putting out something.
[00:30:12] Yeah.
[00:30:12] So hopefully you know when they announce our October.
[00:30:16] Obviously we would say if they already announced them
[00:30:19] so maybe November.
[00:30:20] No because the last wave that I checked was stuff they
[00:30:23] announced like three months back so maybe they're about
[00:30:25] to announce.
[00:30:26] Sweet.
[00:30:27] Yeah.
[00:30:28] Obviously obviously the hope would be that it is a like
[00:30:30] properly licensed you know profits go to the state
[00:30:36] like his wife.
[00:30:37] Yeah yeah which would be great.
[00:30:38] I mean that's what you should do.
[00:30:39] Yeah.
[00:30:40] You know I love I watched rewatch Birth of the Living
[00:30:43] Dead it's on Amazon.
[00:30:45] Hey I watched it this week too.
[00:30:46] Yeah I want to just George Romero it's like sad
[00:30:49] because he's such a happy guy.
[00:30:50] Yeah.
[00:30:50] Like he's like yeah it happens.
[00:30:52] Yeah.
[00:30:52] He doesn't care he's still happy doing what he's doing.
[00:30:54] Right for him from Mr. Rogers to flesh eating
[00:30:57] zombies.
[00:30:59] Cool.
[00:31:00] Yeah.
[00:31:01] So we also we also watch movies throughout the week
[00:31:03] in a segment we call what we've been watching.
[00:31:07] Oh wait I didn't do what's at Alamo.
[00:31:09] We didn't we didn't do one piece of news though.
[00:31:11] Tom Hardy is going to be venom.
[00:31:13] That's good.
[00:31:14] I think that joke is just.
[00:31:15] Tom Hardy literally just that's also going to be
[00:31:18] killing the same.
[00:31:19] I have to care more for it to actually matter.
[00:31:21] I know I think that joke is run.
[00:31:23] That movie ran a good six weeks guys.
[00:31:25] That movie's going to be Kellen's favorite film of 2020.
[00:31:30] Hello.
[00:31:30] Hi I'm Kevin Smith.
[00:31:32] Hi I'm Leonard Moulton.
[00:31:33] Hi I'm Mark Hamill.
[00:31:34] Hi I'm Elijah Wood.
[00:31:35] This is Seth Rogen.
[00:31:36] I'm Chris Thurman's boss.
[00:31:38] I'm Larnstar.
[00:31:39] Welcome to the Alamo draft.
[00:31:42] Next week at the Alamo draft house quickly internal
[00:31:44] sunshine with Spotless Mind which I think is
[00:31:46] overrated.
[00:31:48] Has his fans though.
[00:31:49] That's good.
[00:31:49] It's a fine film.
[00:31:51] Napoleon Dynamite beer dinner with Platte Park
[00:31:53] Brewing that'd be fun.
[00:31:54] I would go against it.
[00:31:55] Forget it.
[00:31:56] Kids Camp presents Jumanji so hang around for that.
[00:31:59] Cool.
[00:32:00] Hey that's the good Jumanji.
[00:32:01] It's a movie about a game now the game comes to you.
[00:32:04] An appropriate joke.
[00:32:05] Hang around for is that a monkey joke.
[00:32:07] Robin Williams.
[00:32:09] Turn it around Mr.
[00:32:10] Rue.
[00:32:10] He's Bayfuck.
[00:32:11] Fuck off.
[00:32:12] That's awful.
[00:32:14] Video Vortex presents Death Warrior
[00:32:17] and Cherry Bomb presents Hard Candy
[00:32:19] which is a good movie with Ellen Page.
[00:32:21] Yeah it is.
[00:32:22] That's a rough movie.
[00:32:23] It is.
[00:32:23] I don't I don't want to watch it.
[00:32:24] It's when you watch once you're like probably good.
[00:32:28] Not that I think it's actually a pretty good movie.
[00:32:30] Yeah it's just tough to watch.
[00:32:32] Yeah.
[00:32:33] Uh huh.
[00:32:33] I think I owned the DVD at one point and never watched it.
[00:32:36] For sure because I think I got it for cheap at some point.
[00:32:39] I might still own the Blu-ray.
[00:32:40] Oh man.
[00:32:41] Yeah.
[00:32:41] I don't know.
[00:32:42] Something like maybe my wife has the DVD.
[00:32:43] Something my wife would watch.
[00:32:44] Yeah.
[00:32:46] Because my wife has weird taste in movies.
[00:32:49] Yeah.
[00:32:49] It's like Care Bears.
[00:32:50] High tension.
[00:32:52] Teeth.
[00:32:53] Yeah.
[00:32:54] Yeah.
[00:32:55] Yeah.
[00:32:56] So this is really what we've been watching.
[00:32:59] So yeah this is just stuff we've been watching.
[00:33:04] Zach.
[00:33:05] Um I've watched a few things not too much this week.
[00:33:07] So but I didn't talk about last week though is I saw Children of the Corn
[00:33:10] for the first time.
[00:33:11] You did talk about it didn't you?
[00:33:13] No I didn't.
[00:33:13] Oh you're talking me in text.
[00:33:14] I talked to you in text about it and I said I'm
[00:33:16] totally going to talk about this film and then I didn't.
[00:33:18] But I want to talk about it this time.
[00:33:20] So I know you've seen it.
[00:33:22] Have you seen it before?
[00:33:23] No.
[00:33:24] So it's like these shows.
[00:33:26] It's a movie where kids come out of the corn.
[00:33:29] It's the little.
[00:33:30] I only know I only know about this movie from the cover.
[00:33:33] So like the film starts off with this like prologue of like
[00:33:39] everybody's happy hanging on the diner.
[00:33:40] It's the 50s and like everybody's like you know
[00:33:42] driving into the music and then all of a sudden all the kids turn
[00:33:45] zombified and start stabbing all the adults.
[00:33:47] Great.
[00:33:47] Then it cuts to the present day where this guy and Linda
[00:33:53] Hamilton are driving to another place and they end up in
[00:33:57] Gatlin which is a like place on the middle of Corn County
[00:34:03] Nowhere.
[00:34:03] OK.
[00:34:04] And it's inhabited by only children and they all are
[00:34:09] super intelligent by by the force of a demon I guess.
[00:34:13] And they like they worship this one specific kid.
[00:34:16] I can't remember the fuckers name but but like it's basically
[00:34:20] the guy and Linda Hamilton trying to stop the one evil kid from
[00:34:25] like like killing them and spreading evil across the
[00:34:29] world or something.
[00:34:30] I don't know.
[00:34:30] We're talking like a buff awesome Terminator 2.
[00:34:33] The Hamilton are we talking like a Terminator 1.
[00:34:36] I'm just kind of sexy.
[00:34:37] OK.
[00:34:37] Yeah.
[00:34:38] So I think this is like I think it was two years after
[00:34:40] Terminator.
[00:34:40] Yeah.
[00:34:40] So she's still like it's not even close to 92.
[00:34:43] Yeah.
[00:34:43] But like so I actually liked the movie enough.
[00:34:46] I don't think I would say I would go farther than the
[00:34:50] first one though because I know there's a shit ton of
[00:34:51] sequels.
[00:34:52] I got the story.
[00:34:54] It was enough.
[00:34:55] It seemed like evil was vanquished at the end.
[00:34:57] So I'm like I'm good.
[00:34:58] Are there a lot of scenes of like people beating up on
[00:35:00] little kids.
[00:35:02] No in fact well it's kids beating up other kids and then
[00:35:04] at one point a bunch of other kids throw somebody
[00:35:07] onto a cross and try to crucify him.
[00:35:10] OK.
[00:35:10] Yeah.
[00:35:11] I was looking for like a hot fuzz style like flying kick.
[00:35:16] The movie has its fans.
[00:35:17] I'm not a big fan of it.
[00:35:18] OK.
[00:35:18] I'm not extremely violent though.
[00:35:20] I'm not a fan of Stephen King adaptations.
[00:35:22] Oh is this one.
[00:35:23] Yeah.
[00:35:24] I like Silver Bullet and I like some of the other stuff.
[00:35:27] I mean if you ask me what Stephen King's best
[00:35:29] adaptation is it's stand by me or Shawshank.
[00:35:32] Yeah.
[00:35:32] I mean that's about it.
[00:35:34] Yeah.
[00:35:35] But I mean it has its.
[00:35:36] Maybe misery.
[00:35:37] That might be his best one.
[00:35:39] I like to palmus carry but no no that's a good one too.
[00:35:43] But he's hit and miss.
[00:35:46] I like the new carry.
[00:35:47] Oh yeah I think new carries go to the mist is actually really good.
[00:35:50] Yeah the mist is good.
[00:35:52] I don't know he's hit or miss you're right.
[00:35:53] I mean for every missed there's yeah.
[00:35:55] Oh yeah I mean the guy this is a guy who sells the rights
[00:35:59] to his books for a dollar.
[00:36:00] So there are a lot of movies based on his books and a lot
[00:36:03] of them are for every movie.
[00:36:05] Silver Bullet there's like six other evil car movies.
[00:36:09] I will buy the rights to Silver Bullet and remake it but I'll
[00:36:12] do everything to piss right off.
[00:36:14] It's so Silver Bullet's a werewolf.
[00:36:16] Yeah.
[00:36:16] Okay sorry what's the there's a couple of yeah I think
[00:36:19] there's one called like the maximum overdrive.
[00:36:21] Yeah.
[00:36:23] The only thing that makes that cool is the green goblin isn't it.
[00:36:25] Sort of.
[00:36:26] He's in the truck.
[00:36:27] Yeah yeah well no what makes that movie cool is all the
[00:36:29] behind the scenes stories about how much Coke Stephen King
[00:36:32] was playing.
[00:36:33] That's what made that yeah.
[00:36:34] Reading his I'm sure I've talked about this before but reading
[00:36:37] his autobiography his memoir is amazing because he'll talk
[00:36:40] about things like not remembering writing Kujo at all
[00:36:45] or writing all of the shining and then getting to the end
[00:36:47] and going I think I'm the alcoholic.
[00:36:52] Spoiler alert.
[00:36:53] Yeah.
[00:36:54] He's not realizing until years later that he was writing
[00:36:57] a book about the fact that he was not a very good
[00:36:59] writer.
[00:36:59] So I also watched so I a couple of months back I watched the
[00:37:03] documentary series on New York called New York a film by Rick
[00:37:07] Burns Ken Burns his brother and there was an additional episode
[00:37:12] I didn't see and it was about the history of the World Trade
[00:37:14] Center because I guess they made it after 9 11 and so they
[00:37:18] talked about the entire I think I've seen that.
[00:37:21] Yeah.
[00:37:21] So I think I've seen that.
[00:37:22] Yeah.
[00:37:23] So I think I've seen that.
[00:37:24] Yeah.
[00:37:25] Yeah.
[00:37:25] Yeah.
[00:37:25] Yeah.
[00:37:26] Yeah.
[00:37:26] Yeah.
[00:37:26] Yeah.
[00:37:27] Yeah.
[00:37:27] Yeah.
[00:37:28] Yeah.
[00:37:28] Yeah.
[00:37:29] I think I've seen that.
[00:37:30] It's pretty interesting.
[00:37:30] It's like the center of the world is the episode's title.
[00:37:34] But it's part of that is pretty amazing.
[00:37:35] Yeah.
[00:37:35] Oh it was like it was the last feet of crazy we don't give
[00:37:40] a shit engineering.
[00:37:41] We're going to build the tallest fucker you've seen.
[00:37:43] And they have some interviews with Philly petite.
[00:37:47] Yeah.
[00:37:47] From the guy who did the wire walk across the towers
[00:37:50] themselves and he speaks of it very romantically.
[00:37:53] But I thought it was interesting to know that
[00:37:54] like it was you know it was like it was
[00:37:57] essentially like it was a post war movement to try
[00:38:00] to reestablish New York as the financial center of the
[00:38:03] world because of all the shit that went down during
[00:38:06] the depression.
[00:38:06] So the formation of it and how they kind of close off
[00:38:10] certain parts of the pier that are no longer really
[00:38:13] there anymore to be honest like that was used for
[00:38:16] export and whatnot.
[00:38:17] Like it's essentially like now until the towers
[00:38:21] were destroyed that was pretty much it because
[00:38:23] they kind of drove it the pierced the pierced stuff
[00:38:25] away.
[00:38:26] So it was interesting.
[00:38:28] I dug it you know it's it's I think the construction
[00:38:31] of it's pretty like I love the engineering feet behind
[00:38:33] it.
[00:38:33] Oh yeah.
[00:38:35] How they designed it and you know for when it's
[00:38:38] windy and how high is up there.
[00:38:39] It's pretty fascinating.
[00:38:40] Yeah.
[00:38:41] Yeah.
[00:38:41] I think I think you'd like it.
[00:38:43] Yeah.
[00:38:43] I saw birth of the living dead which I had never
[00:38:46] seen before but it was on Amazon Prime.
[00:38:48] It's very good documentary covers it covers
[00:38:51] everything I've I guess that I've known but
[00:38:53] there were some other stuff like I didn't know
[00:38:54] that Romero worked on Mr. Rogers and then it
[00:38:58] makes sense because the show was based out of
[00:38:59] Philadelphia it was just for Pittsburgh.
[00:39:02] Sorry Pennsylvania.
[00:39:03] Yeah I forgot.
[00:39:05] I know I'm I'm not the biggest Romero fan leave me
[00:39:07] alone.
[00:39:08] The documentary is cool except the the weird
[00:39:10] teacher who is showing night of the living dead
[00:39:12] to his students and the students are like six
[00:39:15] and seven.
[00:39:16] What is this.
[00:39:17] Yeah.
[00:39:18] Which I'm kind of like and they're talking about
[00:39:21] rigor mortis.
[00:39:21] I'm like that's how rigor mortis works.
[00:39:23] Aren't you a teacher.
[00:39:26] But whatever.
[00:39:27] I'll watch anything where Romero talks because I
[00:39:29] think he's really likable and he's really fun
[00:39:33] and he'll even in his movies that don't work
[00:39:35] so well.
[00:39:36] I think survival of the of the dead was his
[00:39:38] last one.
[00:39:40] Yeah because it went diary than survival.
[00:39:41] He's like the critics didn't like it but
[00:39:44] fuck him I like it with a cigarette and
[00:39:47] big glasses.
[00:39:48] He's very honest.
[00:39:50] He does not care.
[00:39:51] He's a great.
[00:39:52] Well he's missed.
[00:39:55] He will be missed.
[00:39:56] I also watch so has anybody seen a movie called
[00:40:00] Radio Landmurders at all.
[00:40:02] Like so I hadn't watched this in a long long
[00:40:04] time and I but it ended up on Amazon like on
[00:40:07] one of my channels on Amazon.
[00:40:09] I think it's like Cinemax or something.
[00:40:10] So I decided to rewatch it again.
[00:40:12] And you're really just watching the porn
[00:40:13] on Cinemax and then that came on.
[00:40:15] If you like boobs you might also like
[00:40:17] old time radio shit what a coincidence.
[00:40:19] He's like oh man I want to watch some
[00:40:20] of my oh it's three in the afternoon.
[00:40:25] So Radio Landmurder so I hadn't seen it in a
[00:40:28] long time and the last time I saw it it was on
[00:40:30] DVD in a 4 3 format because that was the only
[00:40:32] way you could like get it from the library
[00:40:34] and stuff.
[00:40:35] So this version was actually in widescreen
[00:40:38] so it was cool to see all the stuff that
[00:40:41] wasn't shown in the 4 3 version.
[00:40:44] So it's Mel Stewart I think his name is.
[00:40:47] It was it was executive produced in the
[00:40:48] story was by George Lucas.
[00:40:50] OK that this is George Lucas before he
[00:40:53] kind of went cuckoo.
[00:40:54] And yeah in the good years yeah in the
[00:40:56] good years yeah and Stephen Tobolowski's
[00:40:58] in it he's the villain in the movie.
[00:40:59] So but I won't tell you how he's the
[00:41:02] villain because you'll forget about
[00:41:04] this in the video.
[00:41:06] Murder.
[00:41:07] Well that's part of it but.
[00:41:10] It's all it's really funny.
[00:41:12] I think it's a funny movie.
[00:41:13] Knife.
[00:41:14] I think it's a funny movie.
[00:41:15] Christopher Lloyd has a small role in
[00:41:16] it as a sound man.
[00:41:17] It's really funny.
[00:41:18] George Burns is in it.
[00:41:19] Jeffrey Tamper's in the movie.
[00:41:21] And like it's so weird seeing Jeffrey
[00:41:23] Tambur younger like every time I
[00:41:25] watch Gary Shandling's Larry Sanders
[00:41:28] show I'm always like that's Jeffrey
[00:41:30] Tambur.
[00:41:31] So but it's a fun movie.
[00:41:33] I highly recommend you check it out if
[00:41:34] you have the appropriate channel.
[00:41:35] Like I said I don't remember what
[00:41:36] channel I watched it on.
[00:41:38] If you have expanded you can just
[00:41:39] hold up your remote and say radio
[00:41:41] land murders and I'll take you to
[00:41:42] it.
[00:41:43] Well not everybody has your fancy
[00:41:44] T-faith.
[00:41:46] I watched a documentary from PBS called
[00:41:49] The Black Panthers which is about
[00:41:51] the Black Panthers sadly not about
[00:41:52] Black Panther.
[00:41:54] There was nothing about Wakanda and
[00:41:55] the guys I'm sorry.
[00:41:56] That movie's coming.
[00:41:57] I know it is.
[00:41:58] I just I didn't know that much about
[00:42:00] the Black Panthers to be honest
[00:42:01] other than what I've been told in
[00:42:04] like generality.
[00:42:05] But I had no idea they had a
[00:42:07] breakfast program for children in
[00:42:08] the morning.
[00:42:09] I had no idea they were doing
[00:42:10] social social cause and like welfare
[00:42:12] programs like so I.
[00:42:15] What else were they doing.
[00:42:15] Well they were doing a lot of
[00:42:17] other stuff they were stockpiling
[00:42:18] arms.
[00:42:19] There you go.
[00:42:20] But like it was interesting to see
[00:42:22] the way the movement the movement
[00:42:24] was one thing and then it evolved
[00:42:26] into something very different
[00:42:27] because of three different leaders
[00:42:28] having like five different points
[00:42:30] of view.
[00:42:30] Exactly.
[00:42:31] I mean you and any
[00:42:35] organization you need to have
[00:42:36] one singular voice and that was
[00:42:38] actually their downfall is you
[00:42:39] have some people that were
[00:42:40] helping children and other ones
[00:42:42] who wanted nothing but the
[00:42:44] revolution.
[00:42:45] Yeah well and it's and it's
[00:42:46] like it's weird because like
[00:42:47] they're so he knew Newton was
[00:42:49] their first like big spokesman
[00:42:51] he goes to jail for about two
[00:42:53] and a half years.
[00:42:54] At least like a big gap where
[00:42:56] another person takes over which
[00:42:58] I can't remember his freaking
[00:42:59] name like Elder Cleavage or
[00:43:01] something like that.
[00:43:01] Eldridge Cleavage or something
[00:43:03] like that.
[00:43:03] He but then he got accused of
[00:43:05] a crime and then he booked it
[00:43:06] to Algiers.
[00:43:07] So like you know it was a
[00:43:11] clusterfuck of situations but
[00:43:12] like it's good to know that
[00:43:14] like even though these people
[00:43:15] left the organization because it
[00:43:17] went bad like they were still
[00:43:17] able to pick out the good things
[00:43:19] that they actually did which I
[00:43:20] admire like and a breakfast
[00:43:22] program for kids who can't eat
[00:43:23] in the morning.
[00:43:24] There's a lot of kids who can't
[00:43:25] eat in the morning.
[00:43:26] So that was interesting.
[00:43:28] It's sad that it's been
[00:43:29] overshadowed since then.
[00:43:31] Yeah by the by the more violent
[00:43:32] aspects.
[00:43:33] Yeah like the you know
[00:43:35] whatever it's like it's
[00:43:37] like it's interesting to note
[00:43:39] that at one point the Black
[00:43:41] Panthers were actually like
[00:43:43] like combining forces with
[00:43:44] hillbilly groups which I'm
[00:43:46] like that's a far cry from what's
[00:43:47] happening now.
[00:43:49] So but anyway and then the last
[00:43:51] thing I saw is this morning I
[00:43:53] went and saw Detroit.
[00:43:54] Oh cool.
[00:43:55] Detroit is very haunting
[00:43:58] film and not just
[00:44:01] because of the themes that are
[00:44:03] behind it.
[00:44:04] So like literally this film is
[00:44:06] set up like a horror movie and
[00:44:08] I actually think you might
[00:44:09] like it.
[00:44:10] I think Catherine Bigelow.
[00:44:11] Yeah but like well I think
[00:44:12] you'll appreciate this
[00:44:13] structure so like it starts
[00:44:14] off with the riots beginning.
[00:44:17] So it sets up like the world
[00:44:19] we're living in pretty much like
[00:44:20] in general like it starts with
[00:44:21] the first two days of riots.
[00:44:22] We don't meet a main character
[00:44:23] until about 15 minutes in.
[00:44:26] Then we get Will Polter's
[00:44:27] characters like the lead cop
[00:44:29] in this group of cops
[00:44:31] and then you get the John
[00:44:32] Boyega character and then you
[00:44:34] get the Motown singer
[00:44:36] characters and then you get
[00:44:39] everybody else involved.
[00:44:40] Anthony Mackey pops up in 45
[00:44:42] minutes in but once you
[00:44:45] get to the Algiers Hotel which
[00:44:46] is the Motel which is the
[00:44:49] basis of the film.
[00:44:50] It's about the Algiers Motel
[00:44:51] incident during the riots in
[00:44:52] Detroit.
[00:44:54] Once you get there it's like
[00:44:56] locking the door on a haunted
[00:44:58] house and you're stuck in
[00:45:00] there for a good 45 minutes
[00:45:02] to an hour where stuff
[00:45:04] that it has the intensity
[00:45:06] of a good horror film I think
[00:45:09] and mix that in with actual
[00:45:11] drama actual characters and
[00:45:12] whatnot and you you have
[00:45:14] something that's probably
[00:45:15] like tension filled like it's
[00:45:18] unnerving.
[00:45:19] There are points like I knew
[00:45:20] nothing about this incident
[00:45:22] before.
[00:45:23] I knew the riots happened in
[00:45:24] Detroit but I didn't know
[00:45:26] about this incident.
[00:45:27] So everything came as a
[00:45:28] surprise to me throughout
[00:45:31] the film.
[00:45:32] Mackey is really good in this
[00:45:33] movie.
[00:45:34] Will Polter is phenomenal.
[00:45:37] Like it's a truly evil
[00:45:39] performance like I have not
[00:45:41] seen a bigger piece of shit
[00:45:42] on the screen this year than
[00:45:44] Will Polter in Detroit.
[00:45:46] Which is a compliment to his
[00:45:48] ability to act.
[00:45:49] Boyega is really good although I
[00:45:50] did notice that Boyega
[00:45:54] he's very important to the
[00:45:55] story.
[00:45:55] However it's good to note that
[00:45:57] he's not like he's not the
[00:45:58] central focus at the end
[00:46:02] of the day and his he does
[00:46:04] come off as kind of like the
[00:46:05] same kind of worrisomeness
[00:46:07] that I get from Finn in Force
[00:46:09] Awakens which is really really
[00:46:10] strange where he's kind of
[00:46:12] like we need to survive we
[00:46:13] need to survive.
[00:46:14] One of the lines is you need
[00:46:15] to survive tonight.
[00:46:16] Like he's very overly cautious
[00:46:18] about everything and that kind
[00:46:20] of bleeds through in the
[00:46:20] performance.
[00:46:21] It's not bad it's just that I
[00:46:22] felt hints of it and I'm like
[00:46:24] sounds like Finn right now.
[00:46:26] But and then there's a kid
[00:46:29] and he doesn't have an IMDB
[00:46:31] doesn't have a freaking
[00:46:32] Wikipedia but I think it's
[00:46:34] like an Adgie Smith and he's
[00:46:36] really really good in the
[00:46:37] movie.
[00:46:37] He plays the Motown singer who
[00:46:41] I don't want to spoil it
[00:46:42] his character is the one that
[00:46:43] we're really following in a
[00:46:45] weird way but you know again
[00:46:47] you have to watch the movie to
[00:46:48] find out.
[00:46:49] I think it's big of those best
[00:46:50] film since the Hurt Locker
[00:46:51] hands down so I would highly
[00:46:53] recommend you guys watch it.
[00:46:54] Cool yeah no I'm excited to
[00:46:56] see it probably gonna be an
[00:46:57] Oscar contender if I'm like
[00:46:59] shooting the breeze here.
[00:47:00] Sure I'm sure yeah I mean it
[00:47:01] looked like it's good yeah
[00:47:03] yeah absolutely that's cool
[00:47:04] stay tuned next week when I
[00:47:05] watched it the miniseries
[00:47:07] and Tron the original next
[00:47:10] week.
[00:47:11] Oh that's right.
[00:47:11] Oh week after guys.
[00:47:13] That's right.
[00:47:14] I'll reveal what we're doing
[00:47:15] next week at the end of the
[00:47:16] show.
[00:47:16] Yes I will.
[00:47:18] Cool.
[00:47:18] But yeah that's all I watched
[00:47:19] this week Ryan.
[00:47:21] Trying to do Peter Griffin.
[00:47:23] I can't.
[00:47:23] Not good.
[00:47:26] Stick to your day job you
[00:47:27] asshole.
[00:47:30] Not a whole lot this week.
[00:47:32] I rewatched.
[00:47:35] I rewatched The Time to
[00:47:36] Kill which if you've never
[00:47:37] seen The Time to Kill is
[00:47:38] just unbelievably good.
[00:47:39] Yes they deserve to die.
[00:47:41] I know man I hope they burn
[00:47:43] in hell.
[00:47:43] And it was it was a shame
[00:47:44] because it was last night that
[00:47:45] I was watching it and I was
[00:47:46] watching I'm like oh man I get
[00:47:47] to see some Matthew McConaughey
[00:47:49] tomorrow.
[00:47:49] Like I actually got kind of
[00:47:50] excited because he is so damn
[00:47:52] good in that movie.
[00:47:53] And when he does that
[00:47:54] monologue at the end you're
[00:47:55] just like you can't help but
[00:47:57] be moved because it is so
[00:47:59] powerful.
[00:48:00] I love my favorite line that
[00:48:01] he says I don't agree with
[00:48:02] your politics but you've got
[00:48:04] Compton and that's something
[00:48:05] that Haley could use right
[00:48:06] now.
[00:48:07] When he.
[00:48:09] Passion you got passion.
[00:48:11] Forget until I go to watch
[00:48:12] that movie that that movie
[00:48:13] the Joel Schumacher film.
[00:48:15] I know I'm like what the fuck
[00:48:16] do you have it on Blu-ray or.
[00:48:18] Oh hell yeah I do and it's
[00:48:19] beautiful.
[00:48:20] There has been a good courtroom
[00:48:21] drama in a long time.
[00:48:22] I know yeah remember so you
[00:48:24] have that judge the judge
[00:48:25] maybe the last one was
[00:48:26] that's three years ago though
[00:48:27] isn't it.
[00:48:28] Yeah.
[00:48:28] Oh yeah at least.
[00:48:29] And so I mean for that time
[00:48:31] we had a few good men.
[00:48:33] Time to kill.
[00:48:34] I look and breathe the firm
[00:48:36] the firm.
[00:48:37] All of those yeah run away
[00:48:38] jury.
[00:48:39] I was going to go down.
[00:48:41] The firm.
[00:48:43] Yeah man I can't think of what
[00:48:45] the last one was.
[00:48:46] And they're so great I mean
[00:48:47] if you the right actors for
[00:48:48] I mean the the story is
[00:48:50] already compelling for what it
[00:48:51] is social network comes close
[00:48:53] in a way but it's not really
[00:48:54] a court.
[00:48:55] Yeah there's a little lawyer
[00:48:57] stuff in there yeah I mean
[00:48:58] it scratches some of that it
[00:48:59] for sure yeah but it's not
[00:49:00] like but there's.
[00:49:02] I mean I guess big daddy.
[00:49:06] Rain over me for the same
[00:49:07] reasons.
[00:49:08] I thought the first 15 minutes
[00:49:10] of that's my boy were very
[00:49:11] promising but then it didn't
[00:49:12] become what I wanted.
[00:49:13] I was hilarious.
[00:49:16] Yeah that's true man I can't
[00:49:18] think of what the last.
[00:49:19] I have to really think about
[00:49:20] it.
[00:49:22] Anyway.
[00:49:24] I finally get law and order
[00:49:25] the movie.
[00:49:28] Then I then I rewatched
[00:49:30] The Brothers Bloom
[00:49:32] which got me
[00:49:34] very excited to see a Star Wars
[00:49:36] movie this year.
[00:49:37] Did you read about Ryan Johnson
[00:49:39] on the set of that.
[00:49:41] I've read about Ryan Johnson
[00:49:42] would go ahead.
[00:49:43] No they talk about how happy
[00:49:45] everybody is and they just
[00:49:47] wish the dudes who were fired
[00:49:49] from Han Solo worked as hard
[00:49:51] as he did.
[00:49:52] And worked as well as he did
[00:49:53] well because they
[00:49:55] Kathleen Kennedy wants to hire
[00:49:57] him for something else.
[00:49:57] They didn't already hire
[00:50:00] that Colin Trevor.
[00:50:01] The guy who shouldn't be
[00:50:02] making nine.
[00:50:03] Yeah for it.
[00:50:04] Then I think they said they
[00:50:06] wanted him back because
[00:50:08] because he's so good and he's
[00:50:09] so easy to work with and
[00:50:11] he had like great I well that's
[00:50:13] not surprising.
[00:50:13] So yeah I'm watching
[00:50:15] Brothers Bloom and I'm like
[00:50:18] this movie is fucking brilliant
[00:50:20] and it is like it
[00:50:22] is so chock full
[00:50:24] of little nods and smart
[00:50:26] little references to itself.
[00:50:28] I mean it feels like
[00:50:29] like a Wes Anderson movie
[00:50:31] slapped itself up against
[00:50:33] a Edgar Wright film because
[00:50:34] it's got like the kinetic
[00:50:36] weird poppy self-referential
[00:50:38] stuff of an Edgar Wright movie
[00:50:39] and then it's got this weird
[00:50:40] bizarre like style
[00:50:42] of a Wes Anderson film.
[00:50:45] But what I love about that is
[00:50:46] that you then take that movie
[00:50:48] and put it in context of his
[00:50:49] other two films and you
[00:50:51] realize like he's
[00:50:53] that's a choice for that film
[00:50:55] and it's not a style
[00:50:56] of him.
[00:50:57] You know like Brothers Bloom
[00:50:58] is so different
[00:51:01] from his other movies and you
[00:51:02] mean just from having followed
[00:51:04] his career for as long as I
[00:51:06] since since I saw Brick
[00:51:08] like it's not that
[00:51:10] it's out of character for him.
[00:51:13] It's just him doing something
[00:51:14] fun that he wants to do.
[00:51:15] He's a chameleon man.
[00:51:17] Actually of Ryan
[00:51:19] Johnson I think a lot of him
[00:51:20] is Spielberg where
[00:51:21] he makes entertaining movies
[00:51:24] but he's not tied to one
[00:51:25] genre.
[00:51:26] Right.
[00:51:26] He can make anything because
[00:51:28] most important thing with
[00:51:29] Ryan Johnson is his characters.
[00:51:31] Yeah.
[00:51:31] I mean whether it's Brick
[00:51:33] whether it's Looper
[00:51:35] I bought Brothers Bloom like two
[00:51:36] years ago so I haven't watched it
[00:51:37] and like
[00:51:39] every time you've never seen it.
[00:51:40] No.
[00:51:40] Oh man OK because I was
[00:51:42] literally just going to talk
[00:51:43] about the end and how much I
[00:51:44] love that ending.
[00:51:48] I should watch it tonight.
[00:51:49] That the plot of that movie
[00:51:51] is so tight and smart
[00:51:52] and twisted and
[00:51:55] what he's achieving
[00:51:56] feels I'm getting hyperbolic
[00:51:58] but it's just true because I'm
[00:51:59] looking at it like from a writing
[00:52:01] point of view I look at that
[00:52:02] script and I go he's like
[00:52:03] pulling off a miracle which is
[00:52:05] also the point of the film
[00:52:06] like the whole
[00:52:08] the whole end is about this
[00:52:09] guy pulling off a miracle to
[00:52:11] some degree.
[00:52:12] And you look at the way he
[00:52:13] wrote that script and it's
[00:52:14] it's done and it's
[00:52:18] it's one of those where like I
[00:52:19] feel like I know what that
[00:52:20] movie means and what
[00:52:22] that ending actually is.
[00:52:24] But at the same time I'm kind
[00:52:25] of like you could interpret
[00:52:26] it in different ways and
[00:52:27] there's a lot to mine from it
[00:52:29] and at the same time it's just
[00:52:30] like Rachel Vice is
[00:52:33] so charming and fun
[00:52:35] in that movie.
[00:52:36] There's a dress. Oh gosh.
[00:52:38] I've never seen her be so
[00:52:40] adorable as she is in that
[00:52:42] one. Like she's genuinely
[00:52:44] like having a great
[00:52:46] time.
[00:52:48] And so that like that character
[00:52:49] pops in this really amazing
[00:52:51] way.
[00:52:52] It's it's fantastic.
[00:52:54] I mean if you haven't seen
[00:52:55] Brothers Bloom.
[00:52:56] Yeah. I just can't
[00:52:57] recommend it enough.
[00:52:59] If I could go back to my 2009
[00:53:00] list it would probably be at the
[00:53:02] top. So
[00:53:04] gosh I was stupid.
[00:53:06] We all make mistakes. Anyway
[00:53:09] I think that's it. I'm
[00:53:09] forgetting something.
[00:53:10] I know I started watching the
[00:53:11] New Rick and Morty but you
[00:53:13] know not until we're further
[00:53:15] in also because I fell asleep
[00:53:16] because I was very very tired.
[00:53:19] Yeah. I think that's mostly
[00:53:21] I mentioned at the top show I
[00:53:22] got a 4k so I watched Resident
[00:53:23] Evil the final chapter in 4k.
[00:53:26] Maybe not like the showcase
[00:53:27] piece for you.
[00:53:28] You want to borrow my John Wick
[00:53:29] or something. No I have other
[00:53:30] stuff.
[00:53:33] But it was I mean I actually
[00:53:34] think that movie is pretty fun.
[00:53:35] I I'm going to watch Underworld
[00:53:38] tonight and spoilers for my
[00:53:39] what is wrong with you.
[00:53:41] Well I have the whole series
[00:53:43] so I'm completing it which
[00:53:44] don't worry Zach one day I'll
[00:53:45] remember to bring you the
[00:53:47] Resident Evil collection.
[00:53:48] OK.
[00:53:50] You know what memory is a
[00:53:51] fickle thing right.
[00:53:52] Sometimes it just floats into
[00:53:53] the breeze.
[00:53:54] I'm really tempted to spoil
[00:53:54] alert for our film explosion
[00:53:56] at the end of the year to put
[00:53:57] Underworld and Resident Evil as
[00:53:59] number 10.
[00:54:01] Just because they're fun.
[00:54:03] No I'm mostly just mean like
[00:54:05] man you're your first.
[00:54:06] Yeah.
[00:54:08] Well it's because I mean I have
[00:54:09] Kong in 4k.
[00:54:11] Oh there you go that might be
[00:54:12] really I have John Wick in
[00:54:13] 4k. Yeah me too.
[00:54:14] Two. I didn't get the first
[00:54:16] one. I have the first one too
[00:54:17] but either way.
[00:54:19] What else I have a cup I think
[00:54:20] of Lego Batman in 4k.
[00:54:22] There you go. Because sometimes
[00:54:24] at Best Buy the Steel books just
[00:54:25] automatically come with it.
[00:54:26] Oh I have Ghost in the Shell.
[00:54:28] So I have other things I can
[00:54:28] watch in it.
[00:54:31] But I just was like I'm just
[00:54:32] putting something fun.
[00:54:33] Yeah. The movie's still fun.
[00:54:34] Like it doesn't make logical
[00:54:37] sense. I mean most Resident
[00:54:38] Evil's don't.
[00:54:39] But I mean Mila Hovvich is
[00:54:40] fun. She's pretty good in it.
[00:54:42] Yeah. I know it's like James
[00:54:44] is least favorite person but
[00:54:45] I know she's not my least
[00:54:46] favorite person. I like a
[00:54:48] good Resident Evil movie that's
[00:54:49] just like one of my I
[00:54:50] don't know.
[00:54:52] Yeah.
[00:54:53] The movie is not as good as
[00:54:54] three.
[00:54:55] Is that evil a resident.
[00:54:57] I don't know. I do have the new
[00:54:58] I did get the new CGI Resident
[00:55:00] Evil in 4k because that might
[00:55:01] be because the steel book was
[00:55:02] badass had like a tyrant on
[00:55:04] it. So I'll watch that one.
[00:55:06] Like the CG Resident Evil is
[00:55:07] actually pretty fun.
[00:55:08] Anything animated of it would
[00:55:10] be amazing.
[00:55:11] I'm interested and so I also
[00:55:13] watched the Kentucky Fried
[00:55:14] Movie.
[00:55:16] I've never seen it.
[00:55:17] I have to let you borrow it.
[00:55:18] It's a.
[00:55:19] So it's interesting. I'd like
[00:55:20] to know your opinion.
[00:55:22] I put it in and I haven't seen
[00:55:23] it in a long time but I used to
[00:55:24] watch it all the time.
[00:55:25] You have it on Blu-ray.
[00:55:27] Really.
[00:55:28] Oh wow.
[00:55:30] And so the
[00:55:31] I was watching on Blu-ray and
[00:55:32] the opening is so like bad
[00:55:34] quality. I'm like oh man they
[00:55:35] must not have a good transfer
[00:55:37] and so I watch it then it
[00:55:38] got started looking really
[00:55:39] nice. And so I watched it
[00:55:40] again with the commentary and
[00:55:42] I guess the first like 10
[00:55:43] minutes I shot on video.
[00:55:45] So there's no good.
[00:55:47] Wow.
[00:55:49] I guess there's no good transfer
[00:55:50] of it and so.
[00:55:51] There's no good.
[00:55:53] Negative source.
[00:55:54] Yeah. So
[00:55:56] the best feature though is Jeff
[00:55:58] Zucker and his brother talk
[00:56:00] for like an hour and 20 minutes
[00:56:02] like just a conversation with
[00:56:03] them and they're actually really
[00:56:04] funny guys.
[00:56:05] So you get it on
[00:56:07] Amazon. I think it's 12 bucks
[00:56:09] the Shout Factory one or if
[00:56:10] you guys want to borrow it.
[00:56:12] So this is what I was watching
[00:56:13] it. I couldn't remember some
[00:56:14] things. I remembered like a few
[00:56:16] bits and pieces of it as I'm
[00:56:17] watching it.
[00:56:18] Catholic schoolgirls get
[00:56:20] naughty.
[00:56:21] And I'm looking around and
[00:56:22] Kellen stop playing with his
[00:56:23] Legos and is watching this
[00:56:25] girl's boobs like press against
[00:56:26] this shower.
[00:56:28] Like maybe it's not
[00:56:30] but the funny thing is so
[00:56:31] she's in the shower and the
[00:56:32] dude she's with is he's like
[00:56:34] rubbing her boobs. It's like
[00:56:36] so if you don't know who
[00:56:37] the Zucker brothers are they
[00:56:38] did airplane and naked gun
[00:56:40] and stuff. And so they're
[00:56:40] really it's a really stupid
[00:56:42] comedy.
[00:56:43] And I think there's 26
[00:56:45] skits in it.
[00:56:46] So some of them are really
[00:56:48] great. And other ones are
[00:56:49] whatever. So is it like a 43
[00:56:51] or something like that.
[00:56:52] Just like random skits all
[00:56:53] well it's movie 43 done
[00:56:55] right. Yeah.
[00:56:56] I mean I'm aware I picked like
[00:56:57] the worst example.
[00:56:58] So when I tweeted it's the
[00:57:00] opening line of the movie.
[00:57:01] It comes on and goes your
[00:57:03] popcorn was just pissed in
[00:57:04] more at eleven.
[00:57:09] And so they're the big main
[00:57:11] thing is there's like this
[00:57:12] kung fu movie about
[00:57:14] two thirds of the way through.
[00:57:15] I think it ends up being like
[00:57:16] 20 minutes of the movie.
[00:57:18] And the guy that looks like
[00:57:19] Bruce Lee but he has a speech
[00:57:20] impediment and
[00:57:22] is like what do you think this
[00:57:23] is a suede.
[00:57:25] And he every time he's fighting
[00:57:26] people he go.
[00:57:28] And goes is he a monkey daddy
[00:57:31] because he's also like jumping
[00:57:32] all over the place and go
[00:57:34] and just the little
[00:57:36] things in the Zucker brothers
[00:57:37] that I love and
[00:57:41] just like
[00:57:42] this stuff with hot shots in
[00:57:44] airplane why I love this stuff.
[00:57:46] So in the little what's
[00:57:48] the name of the kung fu movie
[00:57:50] in it I forget anyways I'm
[00:57:51] trying to remember it's been a
[00:57:52] long so there's like this
[00:57:53] really big guy that
[00:57:55] the Bruce Lee guys fighting
[00:57:57] and he like kicks him so hard
[00:57:59] he goes flying and knocks a
[00:58:00] bunch of guys over and he
[00:58:01] starts to walk away in slow
[00:58:02] mo and the dude keeps on
[00:58:04] getting up they zoom in on his
[00:58:06] face and he mouths.
[00:58:07] What the fuck
[00:58:09] stupid stuff like that I think
[00:58:11] it's just great.
[00:58:12] And of course big Jim Slade
[00:58:15] you have to say it's
[00:58:16] the most goofy movie but
[00:58:19] it's it's a trip.
[00:58:21] It is.
[00:58:21] Say the least.
[00:58:22] I guess not everything works
[00:58:23] but as a whole it's pretty funny.
[00:58:25] I'd say like some stuff
[00:58:27] is about 75 percent of it.
[00:58:28] I would have to imagine like
[00:58:30] this is I think the last
[00:58:31] time I saw was maybe two years
[00:58:32] ago but I felt like that
[00:58:34] time not much of it
[00:58:36] has been dated.
[00:58:37] Yeah. Maybe the Catholic
[00:58:38] schoolgirls in trouble.
[00:58:40] No it's so funny when the
[00:58:41] midgets whipping.
[00:58:42] Yes. I'm like this is
[00:58:43] like this is a genre that doesn't
[00:58:45] exist anymore but it's hilarious.
[00:58:46] That's where the stuff like Epic
[00:58:48] Movie or Disaster Movie
[00:58:50] stuff that I've only seen one
[00:58:52] of them.
[00:58:52] I think it was date movie and I'm
[00:58:53] like these guys aren't as funny.
[00:58:55] Well well date movie would have
[00:58:56] been the one you saw because they
[00:58:57] were touting it as like from the
[00:58:58] guys who brought you scary movie
[00:58:59] and then you're like oh they kind
[00:59:00] of just cashed in their loyalty
[00:59:02] card.
[00:59:02] Yeah.
[00:59:03] So maybe there I mean there's
[00:59:05] just one bit that I think is
[00:59:06] actually the funniest bit in the
[00:59:07] whole
[00:59:09] movie is these two guys are having
[00:59:11] conversation
[00:59:13] and there's a boom mic that keeps
[00:59:14] on like bumping into them
[00:59:16] and at one point like it's
[00:59:17] drinking water
[00:59:19] and it's hearing the dude's heart
[00:59:20] and it stops.
[00:59:22] It's just stupid but it's
[00:59:24] pretty funny physical comedy.
[00:59:26] So that movie is really fun
[00:59:27] and then I actually got a movie
[00:59:28] that I was really fascinated with.
[00:59:30] I don't know if you guys have
[00:59:31] ever heard the story of D.H.L.
[00:59:33] Flight 611.
[00:59:34] No.
[00:59:34] No.
[00:59:35] So I forget where it happened
[00:59:36] but these two planes collided
[00:59:38] in midair in somewhere in
[00:59:40] Europe.
[00:59:40] The aftermath.
[00:59:41] Yeah.
[00:59:41] So the aftermath with Arnold
[00:59:43] Schwarzenegger and this is a
[00:59:45] this is a true story and
[00:59:48] the I mean obviously it's
[00:59:49] dramatized for the movie
[00:59:51] but how it actually plays out
[00:59:53] is exactly if you don't know
[00:59:54] the story you should really
[00:59:54] look it up.
[00:59:55] It's so
[00:59:57] a man's wife and daughter were
[00:59:59] on this airplane
[01:00:00] and
[01:00:02] the government in I
[01:00:04] can think of Switzerland I can't
[01:00:05] remember exactly blamed the
[01:00:07] traffic controller
[01:00:08] and the dad
[01:00:11] so the Arnold Schwarzenegger
[01:00:12] plays a guy who's an architect
[01:00:13] and he's going to the airport
[01:00:14] to meet his wife and daughter
[01:00:16] and this takes place in somewhere
[01:00:18] in the 90s.
[01:00:18] So it's before 9 11.
[01:00:19] So he's able to walk to the
[01:00:20] counter and
[01:00:22] so he walks to the counter
[01:00:23] and it says see
[01:00:24] see a see the counters he
[01:00:26] associates and he goes there
[01:00:27] and they tell him his wife
[01:00:28] and daughter died in a plane
[01:00:29] accident.
[01:00:30] And so he's there
[01:00:31] and as the the investigation
[01:00:33] is coming out you find out
[01:00:34] that the traffic control guy
[01:00:35] kind of
[01:00:36] didn't really do anything wrong
[01:00:38] but he was also kind of
[01:00:40] like laxadaisical in his
[01:00:42] what he was doing
[01:00:44] and they didn't have backup.
[01:00:45] So the real story is
[01:00:46] I read up it's not really
[01:00:48] swelter since I guess it's true.
[01:00:50] So this guy became obsessed
[01:00:52] like he made a shrine to his
[01:00:53] wife and daughter
[01:00:54] and this and he really was
[01:00:56] like a really popular
[01:00:57] architect.
[01:00:57] I can't say Switzerland
[01:00:58] I can't remember percent
[01:01:00] anyway so he found out
[01:01:02] where this traffic controller
[01:01:04] lived and he killed him
[01:01:05] in front of his wife and daughter
[01:01:07] or wife and kid.
[01:01:09] And so Schwarzenegger plays it
[01:01:10] and this movie plays this out
[01:01:12] and it's actually a really
[01:01:13] great movie and it kind of
[01:01:15] slipped under the radar
[01:01:18] and I just got it on
[01:01:19] as that best I'm like oh
[01:01:20] Schwarzenegger in a
[01:01:21] documentary and then I flipped
[01:01:22] it over and I started I know
[01:01:23] this story
[01:01:25] and then I looked up online
[01:01:26] like oh yeah this is a true
[01:01:27] story about a dude who murdered
[01:01:29] this traffic controller because
[01:01:30] his wife and daughter
[01:01:31] were on this flight
[01:01:33] and that he blamed him
[01:01:33] became obsessed and he ended
[01:01:35] up getting like released from
[01:01:36] prison and now he's like a chief
[01:01:37] architect of something and
[01:01:39] huh and it's
[01:01:42] and in the movie I mean
[01:01:43] there's a little cussing in his
[01:01:44] rated R my wife is rated R the
[01:01:46] death is
[01:01:48] I mean it's pretty bad rough
[01:01:49] and Schwarzenegger so
[01:01:51] good in it so in it he
[01:01:53] I don't want to spoil how he
[01:01:54] kills him but so he kills him
[01:01:56] and the his wife
[01:01:58] and son are there
[01:02:00] and his wife has played
[01:02:02] so it's scoop McNary is a
[01:02:03] traffic controller.
[01:02:05] And his wife is Maggie Grace
[01:02:07] great and so the little
[01:02:09] boy comes out and Schwarzenegger
[01:02:10] is calling the little boy his
[01:02:12] daughter's name
[01:02:13] and he's like it's OK Nadia
[01:02:15] it's OK and he sits down with
[01:02:16] like the knife like just
[01:02:18] it's really bizarre
[01:02:20] and haunting and
[01:02:22] people should really see this
[01:02:23] movie because Schwarzenegger
[01:02:24] is amazing in it
[01:02:26] and that's why I thought he
[01:02:26] was great and Maggie
[01:02:28] he's really good in this.
[01:02:29] Is it like would you say at
[01:02:30] the horror movie or is it just
[01:02:32] like a it's like a thriller
[01:02:33] like so he
[01:02:35] are you rooting for Schwarzenegger?
[01:02:36] No OK because he's
[01:02:38] sick because he's not
[01:02:40] a good guy.
[01:02:41] I mean he's a normal guy and then
[01:02:43] his you know he's dealing with
[01:02:44] this tragedy and I mean they
[01:02:46] dramatize it where he went and
[01:02:47] helped with the relief effort
[01:02:50] at the plane accident
[01:02:51] and there's some pretty like I
[01:02:52] mean it's it's
[01:02:54] I have this thing where I
[01:02:56] watch a lot of shows about
[01:02:57] plane accidents
[01:02:59] and how they when he got
[01:03:00] there and how you see people
[01:03:01] like hanging in trees like you
[01:03:02] hear about that all the time
[01:03:04] and so he finds his daughter
[01:03:05] like hanging in a tree and I
[01:03:06] mean it's it's pretty
[01:03:08] like sad and I mean it's not
[01:03:10] gruesome in that way but it's
[01:03:11] still like still cringing
[01:03:13] it's cringing and you're like
[01:03:14] how would you feel if you found
[01:03:15] your child like that
[01:03:17] and and he's great in it
[01:03:19] and I really commend
[01:03:20] Schwarzenegger for these last
[01:03:22] few roles where he's kind of
[01:03:23] gotten rid of like the macho
[01:03:26] kill everything which I love
[01:03:27] I mean I love commando and
[01:03:28] predator but it's cool to see
[01:03:30] him kind of do this other
[01:03:31] stuff is getting older because
[01:03:32] I think he's 70 now right
[01:03:33] that he's 70 I think he just
[01:03:34] turned 70 and it
[01:03:37] he's really good in it
[01:03:38] and I think everybody if you
[01:03:40] want to see like a thriller
[01:03:41] drama with Schwarzenegger
[01:03:42] acting they should definitely
[01:03:44] see this movie.
[01:03:46] I'll have I'll let you borrow
[01:03:46] it. It's really good.
[01:03:48] It's it's fascinating.
[01:03:51] Check it out.
[01:03:52] Yeah. I just randomly picked up
[01:03:54] a Schwarzenegger new movie
[01:03:55] then I was interested because
[01:03:56] of because a true story is
[01:03:58] so fascinating too
[01:04:00] that yeah it's one of those
[01:04:01] true stories that the drama
[01:04:03] is in how real it is.
[01:04:05] I mean I don't think I'd ever
[01:04:06] kill anybody but I couldn't
[01:04:08] imagine losing my wife and
[01:04:09] child. I mean I'd be
[01:04:10] devastated and you know he
[01:04:13] goes down a path.
[01:04:14] I have a dark joke about this
[01:04:16] does he ever ask the kid
[01:04:17] woes your daddy and what did
[01:04:18] he do.
[01:04:20] Does he ever say the phrase
[01:04:21] yes they deserve to die and
[01:04:23] I hope they burn in hell.
[01:04:24] Yes they deserve to die.
[01:04:27] Speaking of Blu-rays maybe we
[01:04:28] can inform you on Blu-rays
[01:04:29] to pick up this week.
[01:04:32] DVD releases in Blu-rays.
[01:04:36] Really quick I did look up an
[01:04:37] article of like recent courtroom
[01:04:39] dramas and the top three are
[01:04:40] The Judge Loving and the
[01:04:42] Lincoln lawyer which even the
[01:04:43] Lincoln lawyers from six years
[01:04:45] ago. It's great though.
[01:04:46] I haven't heard loving.
[01:04:48] Loving I haven't seen.
[01:04:49] Yeah that's the
[01:04:51] interracial marriage.
[01:04:52] Yeah yeah yeah it's a Nichols
[01:04:54] Jeff Nichols movie.
[01:04:55] I should see that one.
[01:04:56] I'm the guy who made mud.
[01:04:57] Anyway King Arthur is out on
[01:04:58] Blu-ray or a 4K Blu-ray.
[01:05:00] Yeah I'm actually really excited
[01:05:02] to rent this.
[01:05:03] I'm not going to buy it I'm going
[01:05:03] to rent it I think.
[01:05:05] Yeah yeah.
[01:05:06] Snatch is also out on 4K
[01:05:07] this week which I
[01:05:09] was disappointed to like hear
[01:05:11] bad reviews of because I
[01:05:13] actually didn't care about anything
[01:05:14] about Amy Schumer.
[01:05:15] I actually just cared about like
[01:05:16] Goldie Hans in a movie.
[01:05:18] Snatch I'm like Jason stayed
[01:05:19] them.
[01:05:20] Oh no no no sorry the
[01:05:22] Amy Schumer Goldie Han
[01:05:23] movie that I was just excited
[01:05:25] because Goldie Han was in a
[01:05:26] movie.
[01:05:27] But then it didn't get great
[01:05:28] reviews but I might check it out.
[01:05:30] But the like coolest thing
[01:05:32] is that the steel book of Fargo
[01:05:34] is out this week.
[01:05:35] There we go.
[01:05:36] Holy shit does it look good.
[01:05:39] Oh sorry I already closed the tab
[01:05:40] if you're going to look over here.
[01:05:41] But probably 20 bucks.
[01:05:43] Yeah it's on Amazon it's 13
[01:05:45] 91.
[01:05:46] There we go that's a nice.
[01:05:48] Goodbye.
[01:05:48] Yes it is.
[01:05:52] Criterion is putting out the
[01:05:53] breaking point on Blu-ray.
[01:05:55] OK cool.
[01:05:56] And then.
[01:05:58] Baseball is getting a Blu-ray
[01:05:59] release this week which has it
[01:06:00] not had one before.
[01:06:02] Best Buy Exclusive and it's only
[01:06:03] 10 bucks so get to your best buy
[01:06:05] to get it.
[01:06:05] Man yeah sheesh
[01:06:07] that's crazy.
[01:06:08] I've never seen that movie.
[01:06:10] Well I like that movie yeah it's
[01:06:11] a really good movie.
[01:06:14] So it's the airplane guys
[01:06:15] it's the airplane guys with
[01:06:16] the South Park.
[01:06:18] But I hate airplane.
[01:06:20] Do you really. Yes.
[01:06:21] So I have a blue you can have
[01:06:22] it if you want it.
[01:06:24] I'll take your Blu-ray of
[01:06:25] airplane.
[01:06:26] So there's this great special
[01:06:28] feature on the DVD.
[01:06:29] I hope it's on the Blu-ray.
[01:06:31] It's a really short interview
[01:06:32] with Matt Stone and Trey Parker
[01:06:34] and.
[01:06:35] It's like an EPK.
[01:06:37] It's really weird because if I
[01:06:38] remember they show like the
[01:06:39] question and they said oh yeah
[01:06:41] we just did it because it was a
[01:06:42] stupidest thing we've ever read.
[01:06:44] And actually I was driving
[01:06:46] here and I was listening to
[01:06:48] this South Park soundtrack
[01:06:50] and what would Brian Botano
[01:06:52] do came on was like a like a
[01:06:54] heavy metal version.
[01:06:56] Yeah by DVD.
[01:06:57] Yeah. Oh yeah.
[01:06:58] That's Trey Parker's band.
[01:06:59] Double Vag double.
[01:07:01] A.
[01:07:03] That's orgasmo.
[01:07:04] You guys are.
[01:07:05] Oh boy.
[01:07:06] You do you remember the song in
[01:07:08] Baseball and there's more time
[01:07:10] you did come going to go away
[01:07:12] that she start using topical
[01:07:14] cream.
[01:07:15] There's a part in Baseball
[01:07:16] where they're naked and
[01:07:19] Yasmin Bleeth is talking to
[01:07:20] him. OK. And the joke is their
[01:07:21] dicks are so big like she
[01:07:23] throws like paper down or
[01:07:24] like because it hits their
[01:07:26] dicks and then they walk away
[01:07:27] and turn back.
[01:07:29] Huge dicks go across the screen.
[01:07:31] It's great.
[01:07:34] One of my favorite scenes in the
[01:07:35] movie is Ernest Borgnein
[01:07:37] is talking to Trey and Matt
[01:07:39] and he goes like I want to get
[01:07:40] Baseball back to the or sports
[01:07:42] back to the way it used to be
[01:07:43] when players were nothing
[01:07:45] but indentured servants.
[01:07:47] Exactly.
[01:07:51] Same Ramies for the love of the
[01:07:52] game is that on Blu-ray this
[01:07:53] week. Really.
[01:07:54] I love that movie.
[01:07:55] Yeah. That has to be a best buy
[01:07:56] thing. I'm going to have to get
[01:07:58] that. It's a best buy.
[01:07:59] I fucking love that movie.
[01:08:00] It's one of his ones that
[01:08:02] not expected to do.
[01:08:04] Yes. But it's so.
[01:08:06] It's great. Oh it's.
[01:08:08] It's really good. It's amazing.
[01:08:09] I love that.
[01:08:12] On the opposite side of the
[01:08:13] forgettable scale season two
[01:08:15] of Blind Spot is out on Blu-ray
[01:08:16] this week. That's just.
[01:08:19] Man. I thought season one
[01:08:21] came on like four or five
[01:08:22] years ago. So what have they
[01:08:23] been doing.
[01:08:24] All right. And then getting down
[01:08:26] to the bottom or the your
[01:08:27] your shout factor releases this
[01:08:29] week.
[01:08:30] Teen Wolf and Teen Wolf two
[01:08:33] are on Blu-ray this week.
[01:08:34] I'm really on the fence with it.
[01:08:35] Yeah. One it's cool.
[01:08:36] It's like the Colectors
[01:08:37] editions. Oh yeah the
[01:08:38] Colectors editions like art is
[01:08:40] awesome.
[01:08:41] But the movies aren't that good.
[01:08:43] No.
[01:08:44] But in a way they're like
[01:08:45] like the first ones kind of
[01:08:46] cool 80s.
[01:08:48] It's like what if what if you
[01:08:49] were where Wolf was playing
[01:08:50] basketball but not not
[01:08:51] actually.
[01:08:53] Probably an explanation over
[01:08:54] do son explanation.
[01:08:56] Look at me.
[01:08:57] Yeah.
[01:08:59] The makeup stuff is always is
[01:09:00] good.
[01:09:01] Like the transformations are
[01:09:02] good. You know what it's a
[01:09:03] harm I've never seen it's
[01:09:04] never seen two I don't actually
[01:09:05] know what to is about.
[01:09:06] He's a boxer.
[01:09:08] Oh that's why the yes his
[01:09:09] cousin Jason Bateman.
[01:09:11] Oh I always just assume
[01:09:13] that they replaced him with a
[01:09:14] boxer. No Jason Bateman.
[01:09:16] Jason Bateman or I sorry.
[01:09:18] I mean I always thought they
[01:09:19] just replaced him with Jason
[01:09:20] Bateman.
[01:09:21] Not that he was a character.
[01:09:22] I'm really on the fence with
[01:09:23] these ones because it's cool
[01:09:24] that. Yeah. I always want to
[01:09:25] support Scream Factory.
[01:09:26] Would you buy it if it was a
[01:09:27] double feature instead of a
[01:09:28] probably. OK.
[01:09:29] I might still get him anyways
[01:09:30] because I mean I got fucking
[01:09:32] contamination point seven.
[01:09:33] So I might as well get those
[01:09:36] and I got the vampire lovers
[01:09:38] and otherwise I'm going to
[01:09:39] have to call your entire
[01:09:39] collection into question.
[01:09:42] Well I talked about this
[01:09:44] I think either last week or
[01:09:45] the week before but it may
[01:09:46] been because I'm not using
[01:09:47] digital bits anymore.
[01:09:49] The Scream Factory double
[01:09:51] feature of the Night of the
[01:09:52] Sorcerers and the Lorelai's
[01:09:54] Grass.
[01:09:55] I also on that this week.
[01:09:56] So just in case I think it's
[01:09:57] Italian movies if I remember
[01:09:59] yeah they look like they are
[01:10:00] just in case they didn't actually
[01:10:01] come out a couple weeks ago
[01:10:03] and they're coming out.
[01:10:04] Sometimes they do the Scream
[01:10:06] Factory ones so
[01:10:07] if you order them from their
[01:10:08] website they'll ship them to
[01:10:09] you three weeks early.
[01:10:10] Maybe that's what it was.
[01:10:11] So sometimes they'll pop up
[01:10:12] and then if if general
[01:10:14] public if digital bits called
[01:10:15] the first one three weeks
[01:10:16] ago and then which I only
[01:10:18] do Scream Factory direct for
[01:10:20] like my army of darkness.
[01:10:21] Yeah but really because they
[01:10:23] charge for shipping and I wait
[01:10:25] the two weeks so I don't have to
[01:10:25] pay for four dollars shipping.
[01:10:27] I know I'm cheap.
[01:10:29] Amazon.
[01:10:31] It's good.
[01:10:33] Sorry.
[01:10:34] Yeah that's Blu-ray this week.
[01:10:37] This week on Real Nerds
[01:10:37] Podcast James and
[01:10:39] Zach went and saw the Dark
[01:10:40] Tower.
[01:10:41] James should people see the
[01:10:42] Dark Tower.
[01:10:44] No.
[01:10:46] It's really too bad because
[01:10:47] even going in I was like I'm
[01:10:48] excited for this and I'm
[01:10:50] I was like I'm really personally
[01:10:51] surprised it's only like an
[01:10:52] hour and a half long.
[01:10:53] And then like 40 minutes and I
[01:10:54] was like holy shit.
[01:10:56] Is it not been an hour and a
[01:10:57] half yet.
[01:10:58] I just got really bored and it's
[01:11:00] super confusing.
[01:11:01] I mean this movie ends up
[01:11:01] feeling a lot like a
[01:11:03] like a one of those
[01:11:05] lucky jar of empty promises.
[01:11:08] It feels like one of those
[01:11:09] schlocky January February
[01:11:11] dump movies of
[01:11:13] an underworld or a resident
[01:11:14] evil where like just
[01:11:16] random shit happens you know
[01:11:18] it ends up feeling a lot like
[01:11:20] like one of those
[01:11:21] like like a divergent
[01:11:23] sequel or something
[01:11:24] like that where there's some
[01:11:26] kind of universe here I'm
[01:11:27] supposed to give a shit about
[01:11:28] but like just random
[01:11:29] garbage happens.
[01:11:30] And as a result like there's
[01:11:32] some things and OK that might
[01:11:34] be cool and the universe
[01:11:35] seems like it might have
[01:11:37] been cool but everything
[01:11:39] every element of the universe
[01:11:40] I get in every piece of the
[01:11:41] plot that I get I'm just
[01:11:42] like this is not interesting
[01:11:43] at all.
[01:11:45] I was really bored.
[01:11:46] I don't think as we're
[01:11:47] seeing and the acting
[01:11:49] the main two guys are
[01:11:51] good but the rest of it is not
[01:11:53] great.
[01:11:55] Zach should people go see
[01:11:57] more importantly should Ryan
[01:11:58] go see the Dark Tower.
[01:12:00] Well I'm going to say no
[01:12:02] and but I'm going to
[01:12:04] point out though so I was
[01:12:06] I struggled back and forth
[01:12:08] all week if I was even going
[01:12:09] to come to or go to
[01:12:11] see this.
[01:12:12] Yeah at one point I was just
[01:12:13] going to spring to trade on you
[01:12:14] guys as a surprise
[01:12:16] but then I was like
[01:12:18] I how bad can it be really
[01:12:20] like I sure like I mean like
[01:12:22] it can't be a moji movie bad
[01:12:23] and it wasn't a moji movie bad
[01:12:25] but you know like have you
[01:12:27] seen a motion.
[01:12:28] I haven't then it might be
[01:12:29] I'm just I'm just assuming
[01:12:31] because yes I'll make an asset
[01:12:32] of me and everybody else
[01:12:33] no but I'm no like so
[01:12:36] here's my thing is that
[01:12:37] I don't think that
[01:12:39] this I think if
[01:12:41] you're going to this story
[01:12:42] seems so much more dense
[01:12:45] because everything seemed like
[01:12:47] it was connected to one other
[01:12:48] thing that wasn't being presented
[01:12:50] yeah like so many like things
[01:12:52] going on at once the world
[01:12:54] itself the world they're
[01:12:56] setting up has
[01:12:58] potential but everything is
[01:13:00] so like heavily
[01:13:02] chopped up that I'm like
[01:13:04] I'm sure there was at one point
[01:13:06] a scene where this was
[01:13:07] explained.
[01:13:08] Yeah that was explained right
[01:13:10] and so like with that
[01:13:11] no I can't recommend anybody
[01:13:12] go see this.
[01:13:13] I guess if you're not like
[01:13:15] I might start reading the books
[01:13:16] at some point just to
[01:13:17] get an idea what this is
[01:13:18] because I like in theory
[01:13:19] the idea of a gunslinger
[01:13:21] and a man in black
[01:13:23] and stuff like that and like
[01:13:24] yeah you know like this
[01:13:25] world where like all the old
[01:13:27] Steven like the mid the idea
[01:13:28] of the mid world is
[01:13:30] interesting to me but
[01:13:32] again this this is
[01:13:34] a weird dumpster fire
[01:13:35] that I don't understand
[01:13:37] how you make an
[01:13:39] 88 minute movie out of something
[01:13:41] that clearly needs more explanation.
[01:13:43] Yeah like even if you're going to
[01:13:45] dumb it down for the audience
[01:13:46] like that doesn't bother me
[01:13:47] but like because again I'm not a
[01:13:49] fan of the dark tower I didn't know
[01:13:51] what the fucking dark tower was
[01:13:52] until I saw the trailer right so
[01:13:53] I knew Stephen King
[01:13:55] wrote The Shining and it and Carrie
[01:13:57] and that's about it yeah so
[01:13:59] but so I don't know like
[01:14:02] don't go see it it's
[01:14:04] not worth your money at all.
[01:14:05] So yeah here's the trailer
[01:14:07] for dark tower I'm sure
[01:14:09] we're gonna end up spoiling
[01:14:10] some stuff about it but that's
[01:14:11] hard to do don't go see it just
[01:14:13] listen to us talk about this movie so
[01:14:15] for thousands of generations
[01:14:20] the gunslingers were knights
[01:14:23] so they want to protect us from
[01:14:25] the coming of the dark
[01:14:34] see these visions as you call them
[01:14:36] what do you see?
[01:14:37] I see a tower
[01:14:39] the man in black
[01:14:40] and the gunslinger
[01:14:42] they're just streams
[01:14:43] they're not real jake
[01:14:51] there's another world out there
[01:14:53] I know there is
[01:14:55] who are you?
[01:15:06] it's you
[01:15:08] you're a gunslinger right?
[01:15:10] no gunslingers
[01:15:14] not anymore
[01:15:15] why does the man in black
[01:15:16] want to destroy the tower?
[01:15:18] the tower protects both our worlds
[01:15:20] if it falls
[01:15:21] hell will be unleashed
[01:15:26] he's like the devil isn't he?
[01:15:27] no he's worse
[01:15:29] you can't stop what's coming
[01:15:31] death always wins
[01:15:34] your world might be gone
[01:15:37] but mine isn't
[01:15:39] you let that tower fall
[01:15:41] billions of people die
[01:15:44] but I have guns
[01:15:45] and bullets in your world
[01:15:47] you're gonna like earth
[01:15:49] a lot
[01:15:50] it's the way let's go
[01:15:52] out of the darkness
[01:15:58] did you tell the kid
[01:15:59] whoever walks with you
[01:16:00] dies by my hand?
[01:16:04] I will kill him
[01:16:05] for both of us
[01:16:08] I do not aim at my hand
[01:16:13] whoever aims with his hand
[01:16:14] has forgotten the face of his father
[01:16:15] I aim with my eye
[01:16:18] I do not shoot with my hand
[01:16:21] I shoot with my mind
[01:16:24] I do not kill with my gun
[01:16:31] I kill with my heart
[01:16:53] while you guys are talking
[01:16:54] and the trailer is playing
[01:16:55] I pre-ordered both Teen Wolf movies
[01:16:58] yeah so um
[01:17:00] okay so the dark tower
[01:17:02] is about a boy
[01:17:04] named Jake
[01:17:05] no about a boy is about a boy
[01:17:07] oh god damn it
[01:17:08] so this is about a boy named Jake
[01:17:10] and when he dreams
[01:17:11] Jake has
[01:17:13] he has visions of
[01:17:15] this other universe
[01:17:16] and basically in this movie
[01:17:18] there's like these different
[01:17:19] universes that are
[01:17:20] all sort of tied together
[01:17:21] and laid on top of each other
[01:17:23] in an as guardian
[01:17:24] kind of way
[01:17:26] and
[01:17:28] the
[01:17:29] there's this thing called the dark tower
[01:17:31] which like emanates all this energy
[01:17:33] and holds everything in balance
[01:17:35] so that like
[01:17:36] dark four
[01:17:37] it basically protects dark forces
[01:17:39] that are outside
[01:17:41] from like getting into these universes
[01:17:43] and destroying everything
[01:17:45] um
[01:17:46] Matthew McConaughey plays
[01:17:47] the man in black
[01:17:48] whose name is also
[01:17:49] Walter
[01:17:51] which is
[01:17:52] Mondale
[01:17:53] Walter Mondale
[01:17:54] never delivered in a way
[01:17:55] that makes him sound ominous
[01:17:56] or cool at all
[01:17:57] it's always just like
[01:17:58] I have to find
[01:17:59] Walter
[01:18:02] and Walter
[01:18:03] is using the brains of children
[01:18:04] to shoot lasers at the dark tower
[01:18:07] I was gonna call this movie
[01:18:08] Matthew McConaughey kidnaps children
[01:18:10] but we each have our own opinion on the title
[01:18:11] well he doesn't kidnap him
[01:18:12] he has a campground
[01:18:14] where he's farming them
[01:18:16] it's different
[01:18:18] so it's the egg and hi
[01:18:19] but with Matthew McConaughey
[01:18:20] and children
[01:18:22] so
[01:18:23] and at the beginning
[01:18:24] I was like into this movie
[01:18:25] like
[01:18:26] Jake is
[01:18:29] his youth
[01:18:30] yeah well no
[01:18:31] he's got these visions
[01:18:32] and he thinks that they're real
[01:18:33] like he believes that he's actually seeing something
[01:18:36] but his super shitty stepdad
[01:18:37] is like
[01:18:38] no he's crazy
[01:18:39] yeah his over the top dumb
[01:18:40] shitty stepdad
[01:18:41] who his mom should just punch in the teeth
[01:18:44] and her
[01:18:45] I mean she's also like
[01:18:46] concerned about him as well
[01:18:47] I really could
[01:18:48] I was so glad when they both died
[01:18:49] I was just like
[01:18:50] fuck finally
[01:18:51] I mean
[01:18:52] she's good
[01:18:53] like I didn't want her to die
[01:18:54] so I was really glad
[01:18:55] when he just told him
[01:18:56] like hey stop breathing
[01:18:57] and the stepdad falls over
[01:18:58] I was like thank god
[01:18:59] oh my god wait
[01:19:00] before we get to that part
[01:19:01] so the scene before
[01:19:02] so there's a scene where
[01:19:03] the man in black
[01:19:04] comes to the
[01:19:05] to New York
[01:19:07] to look for
[01:19:08] the boy
[01:19:09] and so
[01:19:10] but he's apparently
[01:19:11] like he knows where
[01:19:12] the boy lives
[01:19:13] yeah parents come in
[01:19:14] and Matthew McConaughey
[01:19:15] is in their kitchen
[01:19:16] cooking chicken
[01:19:18] and he says
[01:19:19] oh you'll have to excuse me
[01:19:20] where I come from
[01:19:21] we don't have chicken
[01:19:23] yeah he's frying it
[01:19:24] like he's like fucking Rachel Ray
[01:19:25] on the food network
[01:19:26] that's the only funny joke
[01:19:27] in the movie
[01:19:28] and then he's like
[01:19:29] he's just like
[01:19:30] oh you're a shitty stepdad
[01:19:31] stop breathing
[01:19:32] and then he just stops breathing
[01:19:33] and then the mother
[01:19:34] and then he takes the mother
[01:19:35] in to see like
[01:19:36] like to find out
[01:19:37] where the
[01:19:38] what that the boy is
[01:19:39] or has the shining against
[01:19:40] because
[01:19:41] guess what guys
[01:19:42] Stephen King
[01:19:44] made a
[01:19:45] apparently made a series
[01:19:46] where he references
[01:19:47] everything Stephen King related
[01:19:48] oh yeah I mean
[01:19:49] because that's not
[01:19:50] the only thing
[01:19:51] that he references
[01:19:52] but oh yeah the main thing
[01:19:53] is that
[01:19:54] Jake has shining powers
[01:19:55] yeah so
[01:19:56] a lot of this movie
[01:19:57] is him taking a bunch of
[01:19:59] it's his playground
[01:20:00] so it's him taking
[01:20:01] a lot of the stuff
[01:20:02] that he likes
[01:20:03] and throwing it all
[01:20:04] in a big pot
[01:20:05] and playing with it
[01:20:06] and I think that part
[01:20:07] of it is really fascinating
[01:20:08] like the idea
[01:20:09] that you would have a story
[01:20:10] where
[01:20:11] you know
[01:20:12] kids who have psychic powers
[01:20:13] which he
[01:20:14] refers to as
[01:20:15] as shining
[01:20:16] again
[01:20:17] or just fine
[01:20:18] they call this
[01:20:19] the shine
[01:20:20] yeah I know it's the same thing
[01:20:21] um
[01:20:22] but like
[01:20:23] you've got that
[01:20:24] and then you've also got like
[01:20:25] this
[01:20:26] um
[01:20:27] you've got like the modern day
[01:20:28] stuff
[01:20:29] you've also got
[01:20:30] uh this world where there's
[01:20:32] there's teleporters
[01:20:33] and like this weird level of
[01:20:35] science fictiony stuff going on
[01:20:37] and then you've got
[01:20:38] the gunslinger who's sort of
[01:20:39] supposed to be
[01:20:40] I mean he's clearly
[01:20:41] supposed to be
[01:20:42] sort of a western
[01:20:43] kind of thing
[01:20:44] but he
[01:20:45] I mean I know he is
[01:20:46] because like
[01:20:47] I've read some of the comics
[01:20:48] and that kind of stuff
[01:20:49] he's supposed to be a badass
[01:20:51] awesome Clint Eastwood style
[01:20:53] character
[01:20:54] and that's like
[01:20:55] super not what this gunslinger
[01:20:57] feels like
[01:20:58] um
[01:20:59] which is really too bad
[01:21:00] like a lot of the
[01:21:01] the stuff that they
[01:21:03] could have done with this universe
[01:21:05] feels really cool
[01:21:06] uh and it never really works
[01:21:08] and then yeah you've got the main in black
[01:21:09] who's clearly just a
[01:21:10] randall flag stand in
[01:21:12] from the stand
[01:21:13] oh yeah I did feel like randall flag a little bit
[01:21:15] yeah um
[01:21:16] but less interesting
[01:21:17] yeah so anyway
[01:21:18] Jake ends up like
[01:21:19] finding this old house
[01:21:20] that's got a teleporter in it
[01:21:21] and he ends up in this midland place
[01:21:23] and he
[01:21:24] oh by the way one of the portals is called
[01:21:25] they have coordinates on top of the portals
[01:21:27] and one of them is 1408
[01:21:29] another speaking king reference
[01:21:31] yeah um
[01:21:32] so he ends up in
[01:21:33] uh
[01:21:34] in the
[01:21:35] like leftover set from
[01:21:36] from blade
[01:21:37] from dragon heart
[01:21:38] and
[01:21:39] uh
[01:21:40] meets like these people
[01:21:41] and runs into
[01:21:42] Idris Elba
[01:21:43] who
[01:21:44] we get a really bad flashback
[01:21:45] where like him
[01:21:46] and
[01:21:47] the all state guy
[01:21:48] him
[01:21:49] him and the president from 24
[01:21:51] are gunslingers
[01:21:52] and
[01:21:53] the main in black just shows up
[01:21:55] and tells
[01:21:56] the president from 24
[01:21:57] like hey stop breathing
[01:21:58] and he does
[01:21:59] like a good gunslinger state farm is there
[01:22:01] basically we
[01:22:02] like what we learn
[01:22:03] is that
[01:22:04] our
[01:22:05] Idris Elba's character
[01:22:06] is the last of the gunslingers
[01:22:07] which really just means
[01:22:08] he's got
[01:22:09] some cool guns
[01:22:10] and he shoots people a lot
[01:22:11] and he knows how to load them really cool
[01:22:13] yeah
[01:22:14] uh
[01:22:15] so
[01:22:16] it's supposed to be cool
[01:22:17] it never feels cool
[01:22:18] because they spoiled it in the trailer
[01:22:19] no
[01:22:20] it just never feels cool
[01:22:21] because you can't reload
[01:22:22] it's so
[01:22:23] not realistic
[01:22:25] that it's not like
[01:22:26] it's not like john wick awesome
[01:22:28] like hey remember when he put that shell in the shotgun
[01:22:30] like he's holding two revolvers
[01:22:32] explain to me how you reload
[01:22:34] two revolvers by simply rubbing them
[01:22:36] against your belt
[01:22:37] because he's that good man
[01:22:38] like no
[01:22:39] it's just not cool
[01:22:40] it's cool if you're
[01:22:41] Timurbek Menvatov
[01:22:42] but it's only cool to you
[01:22:44] like it feels like that
[01:22:45] where it's like
[01:22:46] here's these weird action scenes
[01:22:47] that are supposed to be badass
[01:22:49] like where he's
[01:22:50] ricocheting bullets off multiple things
[01:22:52] or even like
[01:22:53] the spoilers for the end
[01:22:55] but like
[01:22:56] you know
[01:22:57] fires a bullet
[01:22:58] and then ricochets
[01:22:59] another bullet
[01:23:00] to hit the first bullet
[01:23:01] so that that way
[01:23:03] the man in black can't catch it
[01:23:05] like it's just
[01:23:06] not actually cool
[01:23:08] nothing about it
[01:23:09] actually makes me go
[01:23:10] it's pretty weak sauce
[01:23:11] look how badass he is
[01:23:12] whereas if you had gone
[01:23:13] in the character from Unforgiven
[01:23:15] and had that character
[01:23:17] walk alongside this kid
[01:23:18] teach him some cool lessons
[01:23:19] about how hard it is to be
[01:23:21] like a grown ass man
[01:23:23] in the real world
[01:23:24] which is what I thought
[01:23:25] which is what I have a feeling
[01:23:26] this movie was
[01:23:27] until Sony said
[01:23:28] no we need to cut it down
[01:23:29] and make it more accessible
[01:23:30] well but it's also
[01:23:31] because the original cut
[01:23:32] was two and a half hours long
[01:23:33] yeah but it also has
[01:23:34] so much dumbass action in it
[01:23:36] that's not actually very interesting
[01:23:38] anyway
[01:23:39] so
[01:23:41] again I say with the
[01:23:42] movie just sort of meanders
[01:23:44] through these things
[01:23:45] and then like
[01:23:46] they end up coming back to Earth
[01:23:48] which is on
[01:23:49] I got really bored
[01:23:50] and wanted to fall asleep
[01:23:51] and then they came to Earth
[01:23:52] and I was like
[01:23:53] okay cool like
[01:23:54] we're gonna get
[01:23:55] like it's
[01:23:56] it got a little more
[01:23:57] momentum because there started
[01:23:58] being a certain level
[01:23:59] of like
[01:24:00] of crocodile dundee
[01:24:01] eschianist to this movie
[01:24:02] of like
[01:24:03] a ka
[01:24:04] what's a ka
[01:24:05] like
[01:24:06] he starts having these moments
[01:24:07] where
[01:24:08] like I'm not allowed
[01:24:09] to go into the hospital
[01:24:10] with my two big guns
[01:24:11] and like
[01:24:12] you know
[01:24:13] I like when he looks at the two
[01:24:15] sladdily dressed women
[01:24:16] and says you have forgotten
[01:24:17] the face of your father
[01:24:18] which okay
[01:24:19] can we talk about
[01:24:20] can we talk about
[01:24:22] how pointless
[01:24:23] and not very interesting
[01:24:25] his like
[01:24:26] mantra of
[01:24:27] I'm nice
[01:24:28] I don't shoot with my
[01:24:30] I don't aim with my hand
[01:24:32] people who aim with their hand
[01:24:34] have forgotten the face of their father
[01:24:35] I aim with my eye
[01:24:36] I don't
[01:24:37] and it said
[01:24:38] it's so long
[01:24:39] it means nothing
[01:24:40] and it
[01:24:41] it said like
[01:24:42] four times throughout the movie
[01:24:43] I'm assuming
[01:24:44] it means something to
[01:24:45] the fans of the books
[01:24:46] I guess
[01:24:47] but in a harry potter
[01:24:48] esque way
[01:24:49] shit just happens
[01:24:50] in this movie
[01:24:51] so like when he goes to the
[01:24:52] don't don't compare
[01:24:53] this garbage fire
[01:24:54] to harry potter movies
[01:24:55] place no it feels very similar
[01:24:56] like he goes to
[01:24:57] he goes to that
[01:24:58] the random house
[01:24:59] where he finds like
[01:25:00] the portal right
[01:25:01] and
[01:25:02] he turns on the portal
[01:25:04] and then the house
[01:25:05] turns into a tornado
[01:25:07] of wood shards
[01:25:08] and tries to kill him
[01:25:10] sweet and then it just
[01:25:11] it just stops
[01:25:13] and then he runs into the portal
[01:25:15] I'm just on here
[01:25:16] on the south of amazon
[01:25:17] because he uses the shining
[01:25:18] I
[01:25:19] I don't
[01:25:20] you okay you say that
[01:25:21] I don't see that happen
[01:25:22] I'm not saying that's what
[01:25:23] happened I'm just assuming
[01:25:24] I'm literally just assuming shit
[01:25:26] yeah I'll pull anything on my
[01:25:27] ass
[01:25:28] oh he has magic powers
[01:25:29] no I'm aware he does
[01:25:30] I'm just saying like
[01:25:31] that scene doesn't even need
[01:25:32] to be there
[01:25:33] he was gonna walk through
[01:25:34] the portal
[01:25:35] like in the script
[01:25:36] there's no other than the fact that like
[01:25:38] then the man in black gets this
[01:25:39] wood shard so that his weird rat
[01:25:41] people can
[01:25:42] oh I haven't talked about the rat people
[01:25:44] so
[01:25:45] this movie
[01:25:46] this movie got rat people
[01:25:47] I don't think they exist
[01:25:50] this movie got rat people in it
[01:25:52] so
[01:25:53] the rat people believe in you Ryan
[01:25:54] yeah the man in black has
[01:25:55] an entire race in both
[01:25:57] mid world and in
[01:25:59] what they call keystone
[01:26:00] but
[01:26:01] I just want to say
[01:26:02] blu-ray.com
[01:26:03] just post put up
[01:26:04] a pre-order for
[01:26:05] night living dead 50th anniversary
[01:26:07] oh wow
[01:26:08] is it criterion
[01:26:09] no
[01:26:10] but
[01:26:11] and there's no really like
[01:26:12] feet doesn't really say anything
[01:26:13] it must just been put up today
[01:26:14] so
[01:26:15] hopefully it'll be the 4k restoration
[01:26:16] I just want to interrupt you guys there
[01:26:19] no you're fine
[01:26:20] but no so
[01:26:21] they're rat people
[01:26:22] and they to disguise themselves
[01:26:24] in the real world
[01:26:25] they wear human skin suits
[01:26:27] yeah like eggersuits
[01:26:28] eggersuits
[01:26:29] yeah
[01:26:30] and their leader is
[01:26:31] Jack Earl Haley
[01:26:32] well the one
[01:26:33] the guy who's the leader
[01:26:34] of the band in New York
[01:26:36] yeah
[01:26:37] which I'm like
[01:26:38] why is Jack Earl Haley
[01:26:39] being mistreated in Hollywood
[01:26:40] they're going around
[01:26:41] their job
[01:26:43] he doesn't like
[01:26:44] when people look like rat people
[01:26:46] so he makes them all wear skin suits
[01:26:48] and then
[01:26:50] their job
[01:26:51] when they're in the
[01:26:52] Keystone Earth
[01:26:53] is to kidnap
[01:26:54] kids who have the shine
[01:26:55] so that he can bring them back
[01:26:57] to the kid farm
[01:26:58] yeah he plugs them into a giant laser
[01:27:00] that shoots lasers at the dark tower
[01:27:01] it takes away the telepathy
[01:27:02] it doesn't kill them
[01:27:03] it just takes away the telepathy
[01:27:04] and then they send them back into the
[01:27:06] into the Keystone Earth
[01:27:07] which is what Earth is called
[01:27:08] they send them back to the Keystone Earth
[01:27:10] where they can live out their lives
[01:27:11] as drunken homeless hobos
[01:27:13] is that what it is?
[01:27:14] yep
[01:27:15] that's what I got out of it
[01:27:16] oh I thought there was just a random hobo
[01:27:18] which by the way
[01:27:19] when they want to talk to that homeless guy again
[01:27:22] he's just around
[01:27:24] I'm pretty sure given New York
[01:27:25] he would have gone way farther
[01:27:27] than that one street block
[01:27:28] it's so bizarre that like
[01:27:30] they're like
[01:27:31] oh we gotta get back to Keystone Earth
[01:27:32] so we can get some bullets
[01:27:33] and also so we can hide from the man in black
[01:27:35] and use a different portal
[01:27:36] and they get back
[01:27:37] and the first thing they do is like
[01:27:38] hey let's go find that homeless guy
[01:27:39] who mumbled some shit to me once
[01:27:41] maybe he'll be useful
[01:27:43] and by the way
[01:27:44] he's not useful
[01:27:46] I don't remember that he actually
[01:27:48] impacts the pot at all
[01:27:49] it's just a scene
[01:27:50] because they were like
[01:27:51] I think when they finally cut it down
[01:27:52] they were like
[01:27:53] hey guys there's actually only like
[01:27:55] 25 minutes of useful footage
[01:27:57] in this movie
[01:27:58] so just throw some of the dumb shit
[01:27:59] back in
[01:28:00] oh I totally skipped over like
[01:28:03] there's a random scene in the woods
[01:28:05] where his dad
[01:28:06] who was killed in a gas explosion
[01:28:09] shows back up
[01:28:10] and turns out to be a Balrog Scorpion
[01:28:13] and
[01:28:14] so they fight the Balrog
[01:28:17] the like the Balrog Bat Scorpion thing
[01:28:19] and then
[01:28:20] and then Roland fights
[01:28:22] like a rubber band
[01:28:23] around his neck for a while
[01:28:25] it's so dark and gray
[01:28:27] I couldn't tell what was going on
[01:28:28] so he explained it
[01:28:30] and so the thing is
[01:28:31] I actually understood enough
[01:28:33] of what was going on in this movie
[01:28:35] that doesn't make it good
[01:28:36] so he explained it as
[01:28:38] like
[01:28:40] in the after effects
[01:28:42] of when they keep trying to destroy the tower
[01:28:44] the demons from
[01:28:46] the beyond the universe
[01:28:48] come out like infrequently
[01:28:50] like they try to break out
[01:28:52] like they had a tear open in the universe
[01:28:53] or something
[01:28:54] I don't think I know
[01:28:55] yes they did
[01:28:56] they explicitly talked down to me
[01:28:58] and told me what it was
[01:28:59] but it didn't make the movie
[01:29:00] it wasn't interesting
[01:29:01] it wasn't like
[01:29:02] it wasn't moving the plot forward
[01:29:03] it wasn't a point
[01:29:04] it was explaining something
[01:29:05] that might happen in a sequel
[01:29:06] that'll never happen
[01:29:07] right
[01:29:08] and the bigger problem is like
[01:29:10] okay you've got this movie
[01:29:11] it's called The Dark Tower
[01:29:13] like to be completely honest
[01:29:14] I kind of thought like
[01:29:15] oh
[01:29:16] they're gonna have to
[01:29:17] fight their way to The Dark Tower
[01:29:19] or fight their way to some place
[01:29:21] no like the
[01:29:22] the final battle takes place
[01:29:24] and the end of the game
[01:29:25] is like a abandoned building in New York
[01:29:27] and that battle
[01:29:28] isn't very interesting
[01:29:30] or good
[01:29:31] uh
[01:29:32] I
[01:29:33] I
[01:29:34] this movie is terrible
[01:29:35] mm-hmm
[01:29:36] it's really bad
[01:29:37] I like what
[01:29:39] I like the ideas behind it
[01:29:41] I guess
[01:29:42] I do too
[01:29:43] I think the universe there
[01:29:44] could be cool
[01:29:45] if it was
[01:29:46] if this was what clearly
[01:29:48] Stephen King was writing
[01:29:49] which was
[01:29:50] hey guys
[01:29:51] I'm gonna write a crazy series
[01:29:52] where like
[01:29:53] and I build this
[01:29:55] weird
[01:29:56] think
[01:29:57] TULKINESPATHOLOGY
[01:29:58] yeah think MCU
[01:29:59] kind of universe
[01:30:00] where I can do whatever I want
[01:30:01] I've got all these different
[01:30:02] like dimensions that I can pull characters
[01:30:04] in and out of
[01:30:05] and
[01:30:06] and I can
[01:30:07] you know
[01:30:08] I can have this
[01:30:09] because the man in black
[01:30:10] they call him a sorcerer
[01:30:11] so he's got all these magic powers
[01:30:12] um
[01:30:13] like
[01:30:14] like
[01:30:15] kind of it was a strange
[01:30:16] just Merlin ever
[01:30:17] yeah like
[01:30:18] and then
[01:30:19] okay so
[01:30:20] now we're
[01:30:21] we'll get into the spoilers
[01:30:22] and
[01:30:23] they kill Matthew McConaughey
[01:30:24] and I'm like
[01:30:25] like this movie ends
[01:30:26] and I think to myself
[01:30:27] if you made a TV series
[01:30:29] that was a sequel to this
[01:30:30] it's just the lamest
[01:30:32] quantum leap
[01:30:33] I could ever watch
[01:30:34] because the movie ends
[01:30:35] and it's Idris Elba
[01:30:36] and this kid
[01:30:37] who clearly
[01:30:38] it's shot as a pickup
[01:30:39] because I did not
[01:30:40] recognize the character
[01:30:41] and he must have gotten older
[01:30:42] I'm watching
[01:30:43] yeah I'm watching this kid
[01:30:44] going who is this
[01:30:45] did he abandon Jake
[01:30:46] and now he just
[01:30:47] met a random kid
[01:30:48] at a hot dog stand
[01:30:49] oh yeah
[01:30:50] so they're standing on this
[01:30:51] hot dog
[01:30:52] he's like what is this
[01:30:53] it's a hot dog
[01:30:54] he's like you savages
[01:30:55] yeah
[01:30:56] because he thinks we're eating
[01:30:57] dogs
[01:30:58] and he thinks that animals
[01:30:59] still talk
[01:31:00] it's not funny
[01:31:01] so
[01:31:02] actually that was alright
[01:31:03] that line was pretty good
[01:31:04] of like
[01:31:05] oh do
[01:31:06] animals still talk
[01:31:07] in this universe
[01:31:08] um
[01:31:09] but the
[01:31:10] so they
[01:31:11] they eat some hot dogs
[01:31:12] and
[01:31:13] and he's like
[01:31:14] hey
[01:31:15] all your family's dead
[01:31:16] you want to just come with
[01:31:17] me and I'll teach you
[01:31:18] how to shoot guns
[01:31:19] which
[01:31:20] like through the window
[01:31:21] like the
[01:31:22] you know the lights glow
[01:31:23] as if there was a portal
[01:31:24] over there
[01:31:25] and they went through it
[01:31:26] and then the credits rolled
[01:31:27] and I was like
[01:31:28] really this is
[01:31:29] you're setting up
[01:31:30] the dumbest quantum leap show
[01:31:31] I would like
[01:31:32] ah
[01:31:33] oh yes
[01:31:34] so there's this scene
[01:31:35] I love this
[01:31:36] so there's a scene where
[01:31:38] the gunslinger
[01:31:39] they're in
[01:31:40] they're in Keystone Earth
[01:31:41] right they're in the
[01:31:42] like some warehouse
[01:31:43] they're in some shitty
[01:31:44] like left overset
[01:31:46] from some other movie
[01:31:48] and
[01:31:49] ah
[01:31:50] and
[01:31:51] ah
[01:31:52] the gunslinger gives
[01:31:54] Jake one of his guns
[01:31:55] and they set up some cans
[01:31:56] and they're like
[01:31:57] okay I'm going to teach you
[01:31:58] how to shoot a gun
[01:31:59] so what he does
[01:32:00] is they both point the guns
[01:32:01] and then
[01:32:02] the kids holding it with
[01:32:03] two hands
[01:32:04] yeah well and he's like
[01:32:05] you don't do that
[01:32:06] and he's
[01:32:07] he makes a hold of one hand
[01:32:08] yeah
[01:32:09] this kid looks like
[01:32:10] he's about to be blown back
[01:32:11] if he shoots this fucking gun
[01:32:12] so he
[01:32:13] oh and I haven't told you
[01:32:14] about the guns yet either
[01:32:15] but so
[01:32:16] he
[01:32:17] he's they
[01:32:18] they both start reciting
[01:32:19] the dumb poem thing
[01:32:20] that doesn't make any sense
[01:32:21] and as
[01:32:22] as they're reciting the poem
[01:32:23] like the kid like finally
[01:32:24] gets better and can shoot a can
[01:32:25] and then when he's done
[01:32:26] he says
[01:32:27] your weapon is the shine
[01:32:28] my weapon is the guns
[01:32:30] he takes the gun back
[01:32:31] and then never lets
[01:32:32] the kid shoot a gun
[01:32:33] why is that scene
[01:32:34] even in the movie then
[01:32:35] like it
[01:32:36] it makes no fucking sense
[01:32:37] to initiate him
[01:32:38] as an honorary gunslinger
[01:32:40] hmm
[01:32:41] and then there's
[01:32:42] if he has a good gunslinger
[01:32:43] he would never just use one hand
[01:32:44] so
[01:32:45] there's also
[01:32:46] this other moment
[01:32:47] when
[01:32:48] the man in black
[01:32:49] in a completely useless scene
[01:32:51] mentions that
[01:32:53] the gunslinger
[01:32:54] is descended from like
[01:32:56] Arthur of Elber whatever
[01:32:58] and that his guns are made
[01:32:59] from Arthur's sword
[01:33:01] which in the Keystone Earth
[01:33:02] they call it Scalibur
[01:33:04] so the guns
[01:33:05] are made
[01:33:06] from the leftover
[01:33:07] metal
[01:33:08] of Excalibur
[01:33:09] and it's
[01:33:10] so
[01:33:11] fucking
[01:33:12] dumb
[01:33:13] like it could have been cool
[01:33:14] hey Dan
[01:33:15] I love your shirt
[01:33:16] oh what shirt is this
[01:33:17] it's like
[01:33:18] pixelated Mario
[01:33:19] oh that shirt's awesome
[01:33:20] oh my god
[01:33:21] I mean I know this is really
[01:33:22] interesting what you guys
[01:33:23] are talking about but
[01:33:24] Dan's shirt is
[01:33:25] way cooler
[01:33:26] but that shitty Arthurian
[01:33:27] connection
[01:33:28] and I don't know
[01:33:29] if that's in the fucking
[01:33:30] book
[01:33:31] oh I'm sure it is
[01:33:32] but I don't want it to be
[01:33:33] in the fucking book
[01:33:34] it was
[01:33:35] so stupid
[01:33:36] like as soon as
[01:33:37] he said that my eyes
[01:33:38] rolled so hard
[01:33:40] because it's the kind of thing
[01:33:41] you could pull that off
[01:33:42] it's not that the idea
[01:33:43] itself is dumb
[01:33:44] it's that
[01:33:45] when it's just a random piece
[01:33:46] of useless exposition
[01:33:48] that means nothing
[01:33:49] to the story
[01:33:51] it's just some dumb shit
[01:33:53] oh
[01:33:54] I did forget to mention
[01:33:55] that like one of the things
[01:33:56] that completely saps
[01:33:57] this movie of like
[01:33:58] any actual tension
[01:33:59] is that they teach you
[01:34:00] in that scene where
[01:34:02] Idris Elba's dad gets
[01:34:03] killed
[01:34:05] that like
[01:34:06] buying all state insurance
[01:34:07] is amazing
[01:34:08] no that
[01:34:09] Idris Elba's
[01:34:10] quick character
[01:34:11] is somehow immune
[01:34:12] to the man in black's
[01:34:13] magic
[01:34:15] which just means
[01:34:16] that the whole movie
[01:34:17] when they're doing
[01:34:18] magic stuff it's like
[01:34:20] there's no tension to it
[01:34:21] everything's a big setup
[01:34:22] to something that
[01:34:23] clearly is not going to happen
[01:34:24] now
[01:34:25] yeah
[01:34:26] my favorite all state joke
[01:34:27] is by Rodney Dangerfield
[01:34:29] and he says
[01:34:31] yeah all state
[01:34:32] what I want to put
[01:34:33] in your hands
[01:34:34] you won't sell me insurance
[01:34:37] man
[01:34:38] it's just
[01:34:39] I would have rather
[01:34:40] Rodney Dangerfield than
[01:34:41] the man in black
[01:34:42] awesome
[01:34:43] let me tell you
[01:34:44] I'm trying to get this kid
[01:34:45] from going it's weird
[01:34:46] I tell you
[01:34:47] yeah
[01:34:48] so yeah anyway
[01:34:50] look it's not like
[01:34:52] it's weird because there was
[01:34:53] reports like Stephen King
[01:34:54] said like yeah it's great
[01:34:55] I love it and I'm like
[01:34:56] I don't know how much
[01:34:57] you're getting paid here buddy
[01:34:58] but I don't think it's enough
[01:34:59] yeah he
[01:35:00] maybe he does love it
[01:35:01] maybe he does
[01:35:02] and you know what
[01:35:03] we're all entitled
[01:35:04] to our own taste
[01:35:05] for him
[01:35:06] he has a 17
[01:35:07] book series in his head
[01:35:08] that he's like
[01:35:09] it's only eight books
[01:35:10] man I check
[01:35:11] you literally over exaggerate
[01:35:14] he has an eight book series
[01:35:15] in his head that he like
[01:35:16] for him
[01:35:17] it like in a
[01:35:18] Harry Potter-esque way
[01:35:19] I'm sure he's watching this
[01:35:20] thing going like
[01:35:21] oh look like they turned
[01:35:22] all my crazy ideas
[01:35:23] I got to see them
[01:35:24] come to life right
[01:35:25] like that's probably cool
[01:35:26] but for somebody
[01:35:27] who doesn't know it
[01:35:28] I watched this and go like
[01:35:29] this is an hour and a half
[01:35:30] and a half of like
[01:35:31] just random nonsense
[01:35:32] genuinely
[01:35:33] the underworld movie
[01:35:34] from this year
[01:35:35] made more sense
[01:35:36] really when the world
[01:35:37] should stop attacking
[01:35:38] yeah
[01:35:41] crazy as it sounds
[01:35:42] yeah
[01:35:43] at one point the Balrog
[01:35:44] like I think it's his tail
[01:35:46] I think the Balrog
[01:35:48] scorpion thing
[01:35:49] I think his tail
[01:35:50] turns into a crazy rubber band
[01:35:52] that tries to choke
[01:35:53] Roland to death
[01:35:54] against a tree
[01:35:55] and then he has to cut
[01:35:56] it with a knife
[01:35:57] I
[01:35:58] and that's supposed to be tense
[01:35:59] it seems like from
[01:36:00] everything that's set up here
[01:36:01] and I would have to check
[01:36:03] but like it seems like
[01:36:04] the Dark Tower
[01:36:05] stories
[01:36:06] for King
[01:36:07] or his version of
[01:36:08] the Tolkien Universe
[01:36:09] yeah
[01:36:10] I feel like this is just the equivalent
[01:36:12] of the freakin like
[01:36:14] animated Hobbit
[01:36:15] Wild Rings thing
[01:36:16] so we're gonna have to wait
[01:36:17] another 30 years
[01:36:18] before we get a proper
[01:36:19] Dark Tower adaptation
[01:36:20] yeah
[01:36:21] we have to sit through
[01:36:22] the
[01:36:23] Solzance shit
[01:36:24] for a while
[01:36:25] this was the
[01:36:26] this was the thing that like
[01:36:27] when people talked about it
[01:36:28] they talked about it in this way
[01:36:29] like oh man
[01:36:30] like this is
[01:36:31] you can't make this
[01:36:32] into a film
[01:36:33] and then
[01:36:34] when they tried
[01:36:35] they made
[01:36:36] like a schlocky
[01:36:37] underworld version of it
[01:36:38] they made proof
[01:36:39] they didn't
[01:36:40] they didn't even
[01:36:41] try to conquer
[01:36:42] the
[01:36:43] the task before them
[01:36:44] mm-hmm
[01:36:45] yeah it's so weird
[01:36:47] yeah
[01:36:48] Ryan you didn't miss anything
[01:36:51] I still like I love
[01:36:52] Idris Elba
[01:36:53] so I kind of wanted to see it
[01:36:54] he's great
[01:36:55] but I don't know that there's
[01:36:56] is there ever a moment
[01:36:57] you can think of in the movie
[01:36:58] where he
[01:36:59] really turns in a cool performance
[01:37:00] or you go like
[01:37:01] oh man like that was cool
[01:37:03] there are
[01:37:04] hints of it
[01:37:05] but it's not like
[01:37:06] it's stronger to watch him
[01:37:07] as Shurkon the tiger
[01:37:08] than it is to watch
[01:37:09] oh yeah
[01:37:10] he's getting
[01:37:11] I mean he looks cool
[01:37:12] I know I'm comparing apples
[01:37:13] maybe he feels to rotten apples
[01:37:14] but
[01:37:15] maybe if you watch the movie
[01:37:16] with the sound off
[01:37:17] um
[01:37:21] that might be cool
[01:37:22] Dark Tower is a silent movie
[01:37:23] I'm totally digging it
[01:37:24] put it in black and white
[01:37:25] and then put a circle frame
[01:37:26] around it
[01:37:28] Matthew McConaughey
[01:37:29] and you just have a plinky
[01:37:30] piano in the background
[01:37:32] they don't have chicken
[01:37:33] where I'm from
[01:37:35] and there's yeah
[01:37:36] oh yeah I forgot about
[01:37:37] a bunch of references to things
[01:37:38] that are clearly gonna happen
[01:37:39] like Zach was saying
[01:37:40] like
[01:37:41] oh there's one point where you see
[01:37:42] the Rita Hayworth poster
[01:37:43] from the Shawshank Redemption guys
[01:37:44] but it's in the corner
[01:37:45] and it's very low lit
[01:37:46] so you have to be very
[01:37:47] freaking careful to see it
[01:37:49] there's a lot of like
[01:37:50] hail to the Crimson King
[01:37:51] and like weird stuff like that
[01:37:52] we're like okay
[01:37:53] hail to the crimes of king
[01:37:54] or something like that
[01:37:55] Crimson King yeah
[01:37:56] it's like
[01:37:57] oh okay
[01:37:58] clearly either that is a
[01:37:59] character who's gonna come up
[01:38:00] eventually or something
[01:38:01] but I don't care
[01:38:02] and honestly if you were
[01:38:03] gonna set up with this awesome
[01:38:04] villain
[01:38:05] you're not gonna top
[01:38:06] Matthew McConaughey
[01:38:07] like
[01:38:08] I don't think
[01:38:09] especially now
[01:38:10] I don't know it might be pretty
[01:38:11] easy because this was the one
[01:38:12] of the weakest
[01:38:13] Matthew McConaughey
[01:38:14] performances I've ever seen
[01:38:15] agreed I'm just saying
[01:38:16] why not just make this
[01:38:17] character your cool villainous
[01:38:18] character for the
[01:38:19] series
[01:38:20] that would probably be better
[01:38:21] because maybe he could
[01:38:22] get more like
[01:38:23] intense and interesting
[01:38:25] yeah
[01:38:28] Ryan what are we doing next week
[01:38:29] next week we're doing
[01:38:30] film explosion 1987
[01:38:31] yes finally
[01:38:33] so we'll be revealing
[01:38:34] our favorite films
[01:38:35] because James is too much
[01:38:36] of a pussy to go see
[01:38:37] Annabelle creation
[01:38:39] movie looks really fun
[01:38:40] yeah I'll probably go see it anyways
[01:38:41] I think I need someone
[01:38:43] to like draw me a map
[01:38:44] of the conjuring universe
[01:38:46] not much of a map
[01:38:47] it's conjuring one
[01:38:48] conjuring two and then
[01:38:49] the spin-off is Annabelle
[01:38:50] is it always a possess doll
[01:38:51] yeah
[01:38:52] well it's not
[01:38:53] Annabelle is a possess doll
[01:38:54] Annabelle is a possess doll
[01:38:55] yeah Annabelle is a possess doll
[01:38:56] but they only talk about it
[01:38:57] briefly in the first
[01:38:58] conjuring
[01:38:59] okay
[01:39:00] and they did a spin-off
[01:39:01] movie which was Annabelle
[01:39:02] so the conjuring movie
[01:39:03] apparently according to you
[01:39:04] is poorly directed
[01:39:05] by the guy who did
[01:39:06] Mortal Kombat annihilation
[01:39:07] oh
[01:39:08] like the story is alright
[01:39:09] but when you have
[01:39:10] an incompetent director
[01:39:11] who doesn't understand
[01:39:12] the genre
[01:39:13] I know the Zac Eastman
[01:39:14] of other directors
[01:39:19] I love taking a big pile
[01:39:21] of shit and throwing it
[01:39:22] on myself
[01:39:23] like it's the ice bucket
[01:39:24] challenge it's so much fun
[01:39:25] Ryan
[01:39:26] so if
[01:39:27] you want to send us
[01:39:28] your 10 favorite films
[01:39:29] I'll tweet and put on
[01:39:30] Facebook
[01:39:31] 1987 not of all time
[01:39:32] yeah 1987
[01:39:34] please do
[01:39:35] saving private Ryan
[01:39:36] 87 is a good year
[01:39:37] yeah
[01:39:39] sorry I'm just looking
[01:39:40] at pictures of the dark tower
[01:39:41] Bruce Campbell will be
[01:39:42] on my list
[01:39:43] I know
[01:39:44] maybe twice
[01:39:45] he might be on my list
[01:39:46] but I don't know
[01:39:47] what place it's going to be
[01:39:48] twice
[01:39:50] was Congo on your list?
[01:39:52] it should be
[01:39:55] thanks for listening
[01:39:56] he knows Spencer Kane
[01:39:57] really loves Congo
[01:39:58] over Jurassic Park
[01:39:59] and I don't understand why
[01:40:00] that's a lie
[01:40:01] you just made that up
[01:40:02] that's bullshit
[01:40:03] call Spencer up
[01:40:04] I'm going to
[01:40:05] I'm going to call him an idiot
[01:40:07] seriously
[01:40:08] that's terrible
[01:40:09] Amy won
[01:40:10] Amy won
[01:40:11] fuck that movie
[01:40:13] holy shit
[01:40:14] okay so one of the pictures
[01:40:15] on IMDB
[01:40:16] that's associated with the dark tower
[01:40:17] is just a picture
[01:40:19] like it's clearly just a
[01:40:20] it's a picture of a reference
[01:40:21] to the shining
[01:40:23] because it's a picture
[01:40:24] of the Overlook Hotel
[01:40:25] in the movie
[01:40:26] like why is that a
[01:40:29] anyway
[01:40:30] cause the kid had the shining
[01:40:31] and Danny had the shining
[01:40:33] everybody's stuck this
[01:40:34] we don't want to get sued
[01:40:36] boy you did my thoughts
[01:40:38] oh yeah here's a picture
[01:40:39] of that time when the house
[01:40:40] turned into wood shards
[01:40:41] and tried to attack him
[01:40:42] this movie is fucking terrible
[01:40:43] right
[01:40:44] he keeps hitting with the axe
[01:40:45] ah is that the best you can do
[01:40:50] cool
[01:40:51] the shining's overrated
[01:40:52] I love how the every other segment
[01:40:53] in that episode of the Simpsons though
[01:40:54] he keeps getting hit
[01:40:55] in the back with an axe
[01:40:57] the best version of the shining
[01:40:58] was made for TV
[01:41:00] alright
[01:41:02] cool
[01:41:05] real nerds podcast
[01:41:08] is a nebulous visions
[01:41:09] multimedia production
[01:41:11] the real nerds would like to think
[01:41:12] the Alamo draft house
[01:41:13] in Littleton
[01:41:14] and now open in Sloan's lake
[01:41:16] we also would like to think
[01:41:17] Colorado coins cards and comics
[01:41:18] especially Andrew
[01:41:20] our music has been brought to you
[01:41:21] by Sparks mandrel
[01:41:22] and plan 9 studios
[01:41:24] and of course
[01:41:25] thanks to James' mother
[01:41:26] our most loyal listener
[01:41:28] have a nice day
