[00:00:00] This is Zach Howard and you're listening to the Reel Nerds Podcast.
[00:00:30] Reel Nerds at gmail.com. Twitter, we got it, at Reel Underscore Nerds. You could even like us on Facebook!
[00:00:36] Thank you so much and hey, enjoy the show!
[00:01:00] Welcome to Reel Nerds Podcasts, unofficially the official podcast of Denver Comic Con 2016 and beyond.
[00:01:11] Back on Father's Day for 2016 is Denver Comic Con.
[00:01:15] Isn't everybody excited that it's on Father's Day again?
[00:01:17] I'm very excited. I mean I'm always excited. I don't care when they do it.
[00:01:21] I don't have a son so it doesn't matter to me but I imagine it's doubly more exciting for you this time.
[00:01:26] I know and he's gonna be old enough next year to pull shit off shelves and I'll have to buy it.
[00:01:30] Oh yeah.
[00:01:32] I'm gonna convince my dad to go. He probably won't want to though.
[00:01:34] I'll ask him like the week I'll be like, hey I got tickets and he'll be like, I have no interest so okay.
[00:01:40] If you're wondering who that voice is, that is Henry Jarvis, a very tall black man who is now on our show.
[00:01:47] No, he's actually a white guy. You have a black man's voice. Have you ever been told that?
[00:01:51] Yeah, when I was in middle school because I got this voice when I was like 80.
[00:01:55] Wow, so you're like the ladies killer back in Rockin'.
[00:01:59] Actually you almost sound like Reed Saunders from the Car Rockies.
[00:02:02] Yeah a little bit, yeah.
[00:02:04] Can you say a player or something?
[00:02:06] Yeah can you say now Batting for the Rockies, outfielder, Charlie Batting.
[00:02:09] Now Batting for the Rockies, outfielder whatever the fuck his name is.
[00:02:13] Nice. Whatever the fuck his name is is a great player.
[00:02:16] Can you really slowly say Larry Walker?
[00:02:19] Larry Walker.
[00:02:21] Actually say you listen to the Realist podcast.
[00:02:24] You should.
[00:02:26] My name is Henry Jarvis and you're listening to the Real Nerds podcast.
[00:02:32] That's very good.
[00:02:34] Yeah, you have a great radio voice and it's your natural voice.
[00:02:37] Thank you.
[00:02:38] So Henry what brings you to Real Nerds podcast?
[00:02:41] Well primarily it's because I wanted to come on because you guys are awesome.
[00:02:45] I happen to live in Denver too.
[00:02:47] Oh stop.
[00:02:49] I'm also a little effeminate because you know gay marriage passed today so James fit that bill very well.
[00:02:54] James not getting married later today.
[00:02:56] Very cool.
[00:02:57] You can do it.
[00:02:58] Yeah, now we can.
[00:02:59] Well you couldn't call Rada anyways.
[00:03:00] Yeah but I mean like now we can do it like in Alabama.
[00:03:02] Yeah now you can go to Alabama and do it.
[00:03:04] That explains the rainbow t-shirts wearing.
[00:03:06] I don't want to go to Alabama and do that.
[00:03:08] I just don't.
[00:03:09] It's really just Alabama.
[00:03:11] Every other state's fight.
[00:03:13] Alabama is the one you probably don't want to do.
[00:03:15] I wouldn't want to go to Alabama and do most things.
[00:03:18] Like when you think Alabama you only think racists.
[00:03:21] Sorry listeners who live in Alabama but like.
[00:03:23] No that's the thing.
[00:03:24] This that area Mississippi literally just ratified the 13th amendment that abolish a slavery.
[00:03:30] They just forgot about it.
[00:03:32] It wasn't their fault.
[00:03:33] So that's still they just figured it was spoken for.
[00:03:36] They were like it doesn't matter.
[00:03:37] That's so irresponsible.
[00:03:39] It fell under the rug man like.
[00:03:41] James don't make excuses for racist.
[00:03:43] I mean yeah I mean sure it might have fallen on the rug.
[00:03:45] It's still racist things under the rug.
[00:03:47] Yeah it was a Nazi rug so.
[00:03:50] That's like what they did back in the 60s you know everyone just like turned their back.
[00:03:55] It didn't matter that people were being oppressed.
[00:03:57] It's like oh it's they just forgot they just forgot that they were shooting with fire.
[00:04:01] It's not our problem.
[00:04:02] Yeah spoken like a true fucking Yankee.
[00:04:05] Speaking of which the movie we saw this week was Ted too which deals with the same thing.
[00:04:09] It does.
[00:04:10] Which is really ironic that it happened today.
[00:04:12] The day that he released the film.
[00:04:14] It was very ironic as we were walking the movie I told the ref I was like really hoping
[00:04:18] they made it make a lot of like already outdated gay jokes and they got close a couple of times.
[00:04:23] They go for the homos and I was like oh no you don't.
[00:04:27] It's not great but yeah so you you actually stole my bit you know every week we go see
[00:04:33] a new movie and we podcast our experience to the world this week we saw Ted too.
[00:04:36] Did you hear the anger in his voice right.
[00:04:38] I immediately regret it.
[00:04:41] You should you should you know there's a very nice energy we have here and when it's taken away.
[00:04:46] I'm sorry it's all right.
[00:04:47] I welcome back.
[00:04:48] No please do you're welcome every week but you're also a filmmaker and we do films here
[00:04:53] so you're in the process of making a film.
[00:04:55] Why don't you tell us about your film.
[00:04:56] All right the film is called Notes of a Depressant.
[00:04:59] Sounds good happy.
[00:05:01] Yeah it's really it's a dramedy probably it fluctuates between more comedy and dramedy.
[00:05:06] It's based off my experience in high school with teenage depression.
[00:05:11] It starts it's about these two seniors in high school who they both attempt suicide and the school they don't succeed
[00:05:20] and the school when they come back they decide well in order to make you feel better we're going to partner you two up together.
[00:05:26] They don't like each other so I like you always have someone with you as kind of like a buddy system.
[00:05:30] And they don't like each other so that's not really going to work for them and they realize from that experience
[00:05:35] that they're not going to have the school that kind of handles in a very poor way.
[00:05:38] They realize that really people who don't have depression have trouble understanding what depression is about.
[00:05:43] It's about how they decide to write a like novel or memoir or whatever about what it's like to have to use depression and yeah that's the kind of it's the process of them writing that book so.
[00:05:53] So that's a deep film not like this guy this guy makes green screen green screen Jean-Claude Van Damme shit.
[00:05:59] So in terms of mayors like abusing corruption you're right yeah okay so almost reconnecting.
[00:06:06] So are you the writer director of this?
[00:06:09] I am the writer director producer and I'm one of the actors in it so.
[00:06:13] Are you an editor as well?
[00:06:14] Probably.
[00:06:15] You're just like Brad.
[00:06:16] Yeah except for the acting part he's a horrible fucking actor.
[00:06:18] Yeah I mean I mean the pod just fine so like he does his best.
[00:06:23] No he's good.
[00:06:24] I always I always read Brad because I'm so bad on camera but what was that one like show you did skit you did for the people who think they're funny and they're not.
[00:06:34] Laughter bastards.
[00:06:35] You were really good in their little last little bit.
[00:06:39] Which one?
[00:06:40] That's the one where you is their last one they did.
[00:06:43] Is the one where I'm at the doctor's office or the one where.
[00:06:45] You just need a compliment.
[00:06:46] You just need to have it.
[00:06:47] Just take the compliment.
[00:06:50] Thank you.
[00:06:51] People will say like our work is good it's not that good.
[00:06:54] Fucking guy nothing's good enough for him.
[00:06:56] So is a feature length film?
[00:06:58] It is it's 115 pages.
[00:07:00] Wow.
[00:07:01] And so we filmed around 75% of it so far.
[00:07:04] Wow.
[00:07:05] Sorry.
[00:07:06] You're fine.
[00:07:07] And yeah we have 25% left.
[00:07:09] Our goal was to film all of it in June that didn't happen but that was our goal.
[00:07:12] It's hard when it's independent films.
[00:07:14] So we had to do one a month for our pod show and then we realized this is not going to work out.
[00:07:19] Yeah.
[00:07:20] But so how do you get the funding for it?
[00:07:22] It was just all savings.
[00:07:24] It's a micro budget film.
[00:07:28] It's like $3,000 budget.
[00:07:30] The reason why I'm able to make it so cheap is throughout the years I saved up my own money and had that be the budget and also own my own equipment from that.
[00:07:38] Like a little backstory on me.
[00:07:41] I went to the number school of the arts for filmmaking as my major and so it was five years of filmmaking experiences I learned kind of through there like how to set up a shot and how to use that camera.
[00:07:50] And so through those five years I saved up for all that kind of equipment.
[00:07:53] So now I already have that so I'm going to rent it out right like that.
[00:07:57] And so I was like, hey, I can't give you a lot but I will try to make the experience of filming this as pleasant as possible and if we do somehow get into some kind of money.
[00:08:09] I will give that to you as much as I can.
[00:08:11] And they like to allow them just like the script enough that they're said, well, we can just do it for free.
[00:08:15] So that was very beneficial.
[00:08:18] What hat do you like to wear the most?
[00:08:20] What kind of directing, writing?
[00:08:23] Oh, yeah. Fedora all the way.
[00:08:25] I just tip it all day long.
[00:08:27] But yeah, I mean, I don't know.
[00:08:29] I mean, I don't really look good in any hats.
[00:08:31] I mean like the audience can't see the podcast but I have like really long hair.
[00:08:35] It's beautiful.
[00:08:36] It's like long and thick in like every hat.
[00:08:39] Like it makes my head bigger so just like I sit on it like a child's hat.
[00:08:43] So like put like on a cowboy hat and it'll just look ridiculous.
[00:08:46] But you have such a sexy voice.
[00:08:48] You have sexy hair.
[00:08:49] I know.
[00:08:50] Come on.
[00:08:51] I just can't find hats that fit my head because my head's too big.
[00:08:54] I have the same problem.
[00:08:56] It's horrible.
[00:08:57] Well, yeah, I mean.
[00:08:59] I bet you like writing, directing.
[00:09:01] That's what I was really asking.
[00:09:03] Yeah.
[00:09:05] I mean like, I don't know.
[00:09:08] I'm primarily a writer and I just like for me like it's weird like being a director or like being a writer
[00:09:14] and then seeing someone else take your screenplay and then make it kind of their own thing as a director.
[00:09:19] And I just don't feel comfortable with that like at the moment.
[00:09:22] So I would much rather like direct all of the things that are right.
[00:09:26] So I'm primarily just directing it because I want to be my own kind of thing.
[00:09:30] So, yeah.
[00:09:32] When do you hope to have the film finished?
[00:09:34] Well, we have our goal Sundance.
[00:09:37] Well, that was our goal.
[00:09:38] The only problem is that in the past the deadline for regular decision has been September 18th.
[00:09:44] And this year they pushed it up and the deadline for our decision is September 1st.
[00:09:49] So we might be we're like a month behind already.
[00:09:52] And so we're going to try to get done for Sundance, but if that doesn't happen, it doesn't happen.
[00:09:56] And then we'll aim for the rest of the year.
[00:09:58] So and then because nowhere I'll just put up the video or something.
[00:10:02] Then see for free.
[00:10:04] So well, I hope it works out for you.
[00:10:06] I hope so too.
[00:10:07] What possessed you to write the story?
[00:10:10] Well, like I said, it's based off my experience with depression and actually bummer tone for a second.
[00:10:17] I actually started developing it when I was a junior in high school after I attempted suicide.
[00:10:21] I spent around two or three weeks in the hospital.
[00:10:24] And I was just like and then like everything then how the school handled it.
[00:10:27] I felt was not in my family thought was just not as proper that should have been.
[00:10:30] And I felt like I should write this now as a way to tell people who have depression like teens or regardless like that.
[00:10:38] Like what I learned from the experience and like how I found kind of like a purpose in my life and how I kind of bounced back essentially.
[00:10:45] And that's the message that people that they need to find and people who write about teenage depression like John Green and have like Fault in Our Stars or whatever.
[00:10:52] Or like just like teenage depression, teenage sickness or whatever and how they think they just don't get it.
[00:10:57] It's like you don't get it.
[00:10:58] Like it's like that's the point like of the film is like you don't get teenage depression unless you've had it or you don't get depression in general if you had less you've had it.
[00:11:04] Because like there's like a couple lines in the film where they say like everyone's told to just cheer up but it's not that simple and that kind of thing.
[00:11:10] So I wanted to show like an honest portrayal of what this is like.
[00:11:13] And so how did you how did you get out of it then was was your art the way you got out?
[00:11:18] I mean yeah, I mean it was more just kind of like a journey of self discovery over like two years.
[00:11:23] And I just kind of like realized one my purpose and kind of like humbled myself.
[00:11:30] And I guess like one of the messages of the film is that everyone has a purpose in their life.
[00:11:36] But it might not be as big as you want it to be.
[00:11:39] Like it might just be that like your purpose in your life right now is to affect someone else to make a much larger impact.
[00:11:46] And you should be okay with the fact that sure my life won't be like the one that like people read about in history books,
[00:11:52] but I helped someone get there and I helped change the world through that process.
[00:11:55] And that's kind of like what I came to the conclusion that's kind of what I'm trying to get through with this film as well.
[00:11:59] And that like everyone has a purpose in their life and just it I mean like we talked about how the whole it gets better speech
[00:12:06] and how it's kind of bullshit, but it does once you figure your life out and once like you know what you want to do.
[00:12:14] That's when it does get better.
[00:12:16] And so that's kind of like the purpose of the film.
[00:12:20] I think this most serious thing we've ever had on this show.
[00:12:23] No, no it's awesome. It's a wonderful thing that you're doing.
[00:12:27] I think you have to write and direct it because there's no way anyone else could tell your personal story the way you can.
[00:12:33] So that's great.
[00:12:35] Flash forward an hour when we're talking about poop jokes from Ted too.
[00:12:38] Yeah.
[00:12:39] Oh, let's do some poop jokes.
[00:12:40] Yeah.
[00:12:41] Dick jokes.
[00:12:42] That's always the best.
[00:12:43] Well thank you for coming on.
[00:12:44] Yeah, I would love to be here so and loving that I am here.
[00:12:47] And nice like I said you know anytime you want to come back on you know keep us up to date or if you just want to come on
[00:12:52] and chill with us.
[00:12:53] Yeah, I mean if you're interested in the project you can follow me on Twitter.
[00:12:56] My Twitter handle I think is what's called is Byrona Kenrae.
[00:13:00] You can find it.
[00:13:01] I think they tweet I'm part of the tweet that was announced for this one so you can probably find it through there if you don't know how to spell it but.
[00:13:06] Yeah, yeah.
[00:13:07] Oh yeah, oh yeah I announced you.
[00:13:09] Oh yeah.
[00:13:10] Whenever I find out guests are coming on I always announce them so then they can't back out.
[00:13:13] I know I was like I was really panicked when you because I think you tweeted that out like two days ago now.
[00:13:17] And I was like really panicked like I better not get sick.
[00:13:20] Because then we're going to show up at your house with chicken noodle soup and podcasting gear.
[00:13:25] Podcasting gear.
[00:13:26] Oh fun like because you are locked in it's a contract that you don't get paid for.
[00:13:32] I'm like piss any of you off at the theater like I want to make sure like because I mean like I was sitting next to you and I want like like I want to make sure I wasn't ordering anything that like you would be insulted by for some reason like I don't know.
[00:13:44] Like this guy he loves food.
[00:13:46] I was like like I saw like what you were to you just ordered like essentially the healthy version of what I ordered.
[00:13:52] Well, I know it doesn't look like it been the last two months I've lost 52 pounds.
[00:13:57] No I've noticed like yeah really I've only like seen here in your voice.
[00:14:01] I had something say that before like on like the pod show.
[00:14:04] Like I don't like see you in person that often I mean because like I said like I think I couldn't go to camera comic con.
[00:14:08] Yeah.
[00:14:09] And so like I saw you was like man he looks very different like he looks very good like.
[00:14:13] Oh well thank you know I've changed my career and so it's yeah yeah.
[00:14:17] It sucks Chipotle to cops.
[00:14:19] Yeah exactly.
[00:14:21] Good enough.
[00:14:23] I mean I'm that's like the no it's cute oboe but oh fuck them.
[00:14:27] Like the hardest thing is doing this is I have to three times a week run a mile and a half.
[00:14:34] And really I fucking hate it.
[00:14:36] Because to become a police officer you have to run a mile and a half in 15 minutes which I can do like in my sleep now but I just don't want to I don't want to be the guy.
[00:14:44] You only be that last finish exactly.
[00:14:46] I don't want to be that guy I want to be the guy that maybe is not the fastest but I don't have to worry about being the last one.
[00:14:52] You know you either want to be first or average you don't want to be like some blow like yeah I don't want to be the my dad told me when he was in the military and the guys would run around.
[00:15:02] They would have the drill sergeant be the pace and if you fell behind the pace you'd go back a week in boot camp.
[00:15:09] So my dad said oh man there's one guy felt so bad for him in boot camp.
[00:15:14] So one day I was like you know I'm gonna run them and I'm gonna motivate him and he's telling a story and so my dad was running with this guy and my dad said to say man he seems kind of slow and then my dad saw the drill sergeant coming around and my dad's like fuck that guy my dad started sprinting.
[00:15:26] So that guy got sent back a week but I don't want to be that guy.
[00:15:30] Yeah so welcome to the show always welcome.
[00:15:35] Yeah don't worry but I'm deathly allergic to shellfish so forever next to each other please don't order shrimp.
[00:15:41] Yeah all the shrimp they serve it do they serve shrimp it out I don't think they do like I don't think they do actually yeah I do any seafood.
[00:15:47] I am so sensitive to this is a true story so the other day it was after they might have lobster mac and cheese sometimes.
[00:15:54] I don't know.
[00:15:55] I was a few days ago I don't know why I came home after my wife or I wasn't going to be home and so she decided to make shrimp scampi as soon as I opened the door like I got a headache.
[00:16:08] I was like Laura I literally need to leave because I am getting sick.
[00:16:12] I said I'm gonna take Helen I'm just gonna go walk around the neighborhood.
[00:16:15] Yeah it's so weird I'm so allergic to it and I can smell it from anywhere when I touch it my hands break out.
[00:16:22] It's weird thing so as long as you don't order shrimp even if you did I wouldn't have said anything.
[00:16:26] It's how we're eventually going to kill him.
[00:16:28] Yes so if you want to kill me yes it is shrimp or any other.
[00:16:34] Okay I'm gonna write that for the next season.
[00:16:36] Should.
[00:16:37] You're Achilles heel.
[00:16:38] Maybe I heard the story of like a thing is cluck or orange like it's like a new that Malcolm McDowell hated snakes so he specifically put the snake in his bed for that scene like in the beginning.
[00:16:49] Like he forced him to get the snake out sleep with the snake just because he hated Malcolm McDowell.
[00:16:53] Well like cluck or orange when you read about it why would they put them you know the eyeball things like they did that for hours that's weird.
[00:17:00] Yeah I've been like fuck you dude and then it's cool if you're fired like yeah make this movie down me suck my dick.
[00:17:07] That's what I'd say to Stanley Cooper and I would say you'll be dead in 15 years anyway.
[00:17:13] Because he was.
[00:17:18] So so we're bad suicide and death of famous directors so I think it's all 15 years but you know whatever what was your favorite movie what kind of movies do you like.
[00:17:26] The show fuck the show.
[00:17:28] My favorite film of all time is Lawrence for Arabia.
[00:17:31] The first half or the second half.
[00:17:34] Well I mean probably if I had to say probably first half just because that's just I feel like this.
[00:17:39] Good answer.
[00:17:42] And then favorite director wise like I mean I've posted some screenshots of like from the film that like shots I like so far and I'm trying to definitely like directors that influence me are very like David Lynch Steven Somburg and that kind of guys and so those people like emulate
[00:17:54] But there are directors that I like like David lean who did sports for a beer and what is Lynch.
[00:18:01] I love Lynch too so David Lynch sorry and but I could I would never be able to achieve something on like his level of surrealism so like.
[00:18:10] Oh yeah you just need midgets running around saying yeah and then you've achieved David Lynch yeah I think if you stop trying you'll be very successful.
[00:18:18] It's just like when people say oh I love Terry Gilliam like really he's kind of shitty.
[00:18:22] No some yes he's shitty quit pretending like he's not some of it's really good but like.
[00:18:27] It's not that you can't say anything bad about it it's just that you can't say big sweeping things that aren't entirely people tell me Brazil is a good movie too like no it's not.
[00:18:36] We've talked about this I don't like but people but it's all monkeys are really good citizen Kane is so great fuck citizen Kane 12 monkeys is great.

[00:18:50] Do you guys see that the singing detective is coming out on Blu-ray I cannot fucking yeah I love Robert Downey Jr. and then that movie's coming out on Blu-ray.
[00:18:57] Nothing it sucks it's all of films and all of films but absolutely no special features or any of their stuff yeah.
[00:19:03] I know it sucks dude.
[00:19:07] Anyways every week when we're done seeing the movie which will spoil at the end we also talk about movie news stuff we've been watching Henry has a comic book for us.

[00:19:27] I already said that I said Henry has one damn it.
[00:19:30] Listen to me bro fucking start the show man.
[00:19:32] Okay would you Henry you're on the show what would you like us to start with.
[00:19:36] Is there any fan mail.
[00:19:38] Fan mail that's what we usually start with.
[00:19:40] I love you guys that's fan mail.
[00:19:43] Actually because I skip this every other week.
[00:19:46] This is what's playing at the Alamo draft house next week.
[00:19:52] Welcome everybody to the Alamo draft house during the show.

[00:20:06] Yeah I turn it off but I just sent Tammy Lynn something funny and I'm waiting for a ha ha back or texting.
[00:20:13] Damn right ha ha.
[00:20:26] Luckily Brad keeps on posting them online so.
[00:20:29] What would you do without me huh what would you do without me.
[00:20:34] Remember I don't know what I do without you remember to do the segment remember to do the segment yes.
[00:20:42] I can sorry I'm scrolling this I know that I can't read I can hear y'all's phone in the podcast.
[00:20:49] That's a Brad he's the one who's online.
[00:20:53] No not anymore but you can pick up you can pick up internet waves.
[00:20:57] Yeah it goes.
[00:20:59] Oh okay so it's okay.
[00:21:02] So yeah anyways Alamo draft house in Littleton Colorado is our favorite place to see movies because it is awesome.
[00:21:09] Damn straight.
[00:21:11] There we go girls Inc presents Hannah which I know James loves.
[00:21:17] That's a good movie soon film.
[00:21:19] The beer dinner is Terminator 2 with can't read because it's too small Arnold Schwarzenegger yes with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
[00:21:27] Rowdy Magic Mike XXL is hosted by Chris Parente and Kathy Jay of Everyday Show on Fox 31 next week show.
[00:21:34] Why are they posting it.
[00:21:39] All right chronic con episode 420 a new dope I'll give you one guess who's with that one.
[00:21:45] I already know Doug Benson.
[00:21:49] He's not that funny.
[00:21:51] I was going to guess Bob Hope he's still all right.
[00:21:55] Sure I mean I like Doug Benson is like his old albums but like I started listening to his like movie podcast is just like I mean I like you when you like think about what you're gonna say.
[00:22:05] Yeah I agree.
[00:22:07] Yeah so that's what's happening at good old draft house next week.
[00:22:11] I got really excited because they're showing the creature from the black Lagoon in 3D.
[00:22:16] Oh is it 3D.
[00:22:18] I just got an email this week from the Alamo talking about it saying awesome for immediate release.
[00:22:24] I really want to see that now.
[00:22:26] I know it's a fucking Wednesday and I usually work that day and they already wrote the schedule and I'm on it like right now I'm slinging wings because I'm just making money to go to school.
[00:22:36] And it sucks.
[00:22:37] And she writes and they're great people it's nothing against them I worked in restaurants so long tired of it.
[00:22:42] Yeah and and I'm scheduled that day I'm gonna try to get it off.
[00:22:46] I'll be in Oklahoma.
[00:22:48] I guess things can be worse.
[00:22:50] Right.
[00:22:51] That's my point.
[00:22:52] Why is there so many bugs in Oklahoma.
[00:22:53] Because it gets stupid human in the summer man it's so gross.
[00:22:56] I know.
[00:22:57] I'm trying to tell you my goodness that's why you gotta live in Colorado.
[00:23:00] It's beautiful in the winter it was nice it was dry it felt exactly like Colorado weather.
[00:23:04] And then I flew down there one time and it was just like it flipped and it was just a swamp.
[00:23:09] Yep.
[00:23:10] So that's what's playing at the Alamo.
[00:23:12] You normally would do fan mail but we don't have the only fan mail we got is people really responding to Brad's lost world script.
[00:23:21] Oh God.
[00:23:22] Because and I was just I always poke these guys I don't know if you notice on the podcast but I always poke likely.
[00:23:29] You want to just jump into what we've been watching them.
[00:23:31] Oh yeah we could do that but let me finish telling Brad's story.
[00:23:34] Okay fun.
[00:23:35] So I called Brad out on the last podcast I totally exaggerated what he was talking about on Jurassic World and he's like you know what fuck that asshole.
[00:23:43] He wrote a really funny script about how he would have Jurassic.
[00:23:46] It's fantastic how I read the movie how you rewrite the movie.
[00:23:49] And you know what I've been looking at the stats of it and it's our most viewed page in a long time so see Brad if you just get out and do it then.
[00:23:57] What's really funny is about halfway through it I was really sitting there like you know this is actually a pretty good idea.
[00:24:03] Like there's a couple goofy things in here but I know why am I in it.
[00:24:06] This is pretty good.
[00:24:07] That's because I seriously contemplating that idea and then I got like the NS like fuck it.
[00:24:12] I just ended it.
[00:24:14] But yeah anyway cool so this is this is the stuff we've been watching.
[00:24:19] So yeah this is stuff we've been watching.
[00:24:24] Henry fuck these guys what'd you watch this week.
[00:24:26] Oh okay.
[00:24:27] You can curse on this.
[00:24:28] No I mean yeah it's the Internet.
[00:24:30] No I know I can curse is that you don't because you're an actual real nice human being.
[00:24:34] God damn it.
[00:24:35] Let's not go that far.
[00:24:37] Well I mean the general rule is that if you mention a single film like five episodes in a row it becomes that films podcast so watch San Andreas last night.
[00:24:47] Yes.
[00:24:49] Did you smell what the rock was cooking.
[00:24:51] I did smell the rock was cooking.
[00:24:52] Love it.
[00:24:53] That fucking movie.
[00:24:54] Did you enjoy it.
[00:24:55] Here's the thing about that.
[00:24:56] It's that's funny because everyone said to with that means he agrees with me.
[00:25:00] No it is the greatest unintentional comedy of the year.
[00:25:04] Like just like the whole part like when like the first segment when she's like falling off the cliff.
[00:25:09] Yeah I just like just like how it was like it was like first she's like driving and she's like oh a car's coming better go in the back seat and grab my water bottle.
[00:25:17] I was like okay so she can get hit by the car.
[00:25:19] Nope car voids her then she's like oh someone's texting me better check the text another car comes.
[00:25:24] She avoids that then just a rock hits her and like so it's just like saying texting driving fine.
[00:25:29] Fine but don't you dare drive the mountains and so it's like it was just like and like I like you'd like to the lie and like I know like you said it was just like.
[00:25:39] I said it was like the greatest film of its genre.
[00:25:43] That's right.
[00:25:44] But it's genre is garbage.
[00:25:45] That's very true.
[00:25:46] What about the part where the rock rips the door off.
[00:25:49] That's the best part.
[00:25:50] Yes there is a shot where the rock rips a door.
[00:25:52] It is 13 seconds long.
[00:25:54] Yeah it's awesome.
[00:25:55] Or like the part like when after like thousands of died when they land in the baseball stadium and the rock just turns to his ex-boyfriend like I haven't gone to second base in so long.
[00:26:03] Yes that's true.
[00:26:05] I just so flip into that the fact that like thousands and thousands of people are dying.
[00:26:09] I think sometimes people don't listen to me.
[00:26:10] I said it's not that great of a movie but the rock makes it better.
[00:26:13] No we know.
[00:26:14] And it's true.
[00:26:15] It's true.
[00:26:16] And it's fun.
[00:26:17] Oh yeah yeah.
[00:26:18] I want to mention about that like I haven't heard like anyone talk about there's like one segment in it where like the rock and his ex-wife are like driving down a road and then like people try to flag him over and they stop and they say like there's like a big crack.
[00:26:28] And then they go talk to people and it's like these two like this elderly couple and the only couple are like bickering as if like because like Harold's eyes were very good.
[00:26:38] So we almost like why are you bickering right now?
[00:26:41] That is true.
[00:26:42] There's so much bigger things going on.
[00:26:44] That's very true.
[00:26:45] You're angry because Harold's eyes aren't great.
[00:26:48] You should have seen the big ass crack in the ground.
[00:26:50] Yeah.
[00:26:51] That even the rock with his eagle vision couldn't see.
[00:26:54] Typical wife guys.
[00:26:57] Damn it.
[00:26:58] About the time you almost killed us even not even close.
[00:27:01] I'm married I can say stuff like that.
[00:27:03] Oh okay.
[00:27:04] Oh it's okay now.
[00:27:07] I also watched dope which came out last week.
[00:27:10] I was just about that one.
[00:27:11] Did I do a good job describing it last week?
[00:27:13] I said it was about kids who get coerced into like dealing drugs.
[00:27:16] Yeah I mean like the best way to like I think it's best to watch it without knowing as little as possible.
[00:27:22] Like and I don't say that about a lot of ways to feel like you should see at least a trailer beforehand.
[00:27:25] I did not see a trailer before seeing it.
[00:27:27] I absolutely loved it.
[00:27:28] It's one of my favorite films of the year.
[00:27:29] Oh cool.
[00:27:30] It's hilarious.
[00:27:31] I mean for me especially because I went to Denver School of the Arts and I live in Highlands Ranch.
[00:27:34] And Denver School of the Arts is like a predominantly like there's a lot of like kind of like low income kind of kids and that kind of thing.
[00:27:39] And so like it's a lot of like wannabe gangsters.
[00:27:41] And so like you like and like it think it was in like Los Angeles and it's all these like actual like either wannabe gangsters or actual gangsters.
[00:27:49] And it's like they nail it on the head.
[00:27:51] Perfect like how they act, how they talk and like who want to be that, who don't want to be that.
[00:27:56] It's one of the most honest teenage films I've seen in a very long time.
[00:27:59] And it's just hilarious in some parts.
[00:28:01] It's really like moving in some parts.
[00:28:02] It's a really great film.
[00:28:03] Oh cool.
[00:28:04] And if you and I strongly recommend you go check it out.
[00:28:06] It's my top 10 of the year.
[00:28:07] I know it blew away people at Sundance.
[00:28:09] Oh yeah, I think it was not only for Best Picture and it won Best Editing.
[00:28:14] Cool.
[00:28:15] Yeah.
[00:28:16] I mean, no, if we're on Sundance, I also saw Me, Your Own the Dying Girl which won Sundance this year.
[00:28:20] Oh yeah.
[00:28:21] I think Dope is better.
[00:28:22] They're two very similar films.
[00:28:23] Dope's about like teenagers dealing with like their personal issues and Me, Your Own the Dying Girl is about teenagers dealing with their issues.
[00:28:29] And so but if you if I if you like have both them in your like which one should I see?
[00:28:34] I recommend Dope.
[00:28:35] It's just more fun and it's more original as well.
[00:28:37] Dope is more fun for Yonder's podcast.
[00:28:40] Do drugs.
[00:28:41] Yeah.
[00:28:42] I'm trying to think of what else.
[00:28:45] Because I mean like I'm I don't have many friends that hang out with me so I feel that time that I would be hanging out with friends.
[00:28:54] You should come watch movies with us more often.
[00:28:57] And so like I watched like maybe like two or three films a day.
[00:29:00] Yeah.
[00:29:01] And so I've seen a lot.
[00:29:03] Most of them not very memorable.
[00:29:05] So but like those are two that I like planned on like this is what I'm going to talk about as well.
[00:29:09] Yeah.
[00:29:10] One thing I also mentioned, I think it's kind of fun.
[00:29:12] I saw Inside Out the Thursday night showing before like it came out.
[00:29:15] Yeah.
[00:29:16] I saw with my brother who's six and in what?
[00:29:20] Oh, I was just curious what a six year old thought of.
[00:29:22] I really did.
[00:29:23] I was going to talk about that.
[00:29:24] Yeah.
[00:29:25] Remember like he said last week that like it's probably in effect like like older people more than younger people.
[00:29:29] I love the film.
[00:29:30] It's one of because I like us to some reviews that like Todd talked about how bad it was.
[00:29:35] And like they said, like everything they didn't like about so I was like going in and being like,
[00:29:37] Oh look for like these kinds of things to see like if there's two but I loved it.
[00:29:41] I couldn't find them.
[00:29:42] I still love the film.
[00:29:43] Yeah.
[00:29:44] And like I cried towards part of that you started talking about when you were crying.
[00:29:47] And then when I was walking out of the theater, I was like we're always walking back to my brother.
[00:29:50] And I was like, Hey, did you like the film?
[00:29:52] And he was like, yeah.
[00:29:53] And I was like, well, like mom wants to see it.
[00:29:56] And then he goes, oh, I should wait for it to come on DVD.
[00:29:59] Like, yeah.
[00:30:01] I was like, well, who's like your favorite character?
[00:30:04] He goes, sadness.
[00:30:05] Man, like wow.
[00:30:06] That's pretty rough.
[00:30:07] Yeah.
[00:30:08] And that's what I was sort of afraid of was to say, I don't know.
[00:30:12] I feel like it's so intellectual that I was afraid that it was going to get boring
[00:30:16] for kids who didn't understand.
[00:30:17] Like there are a lot of heady jokes in there.
[00:30:21] And if you don't understand like, you know, the land of abstract thought, then you're going
[00:30:26] to have a hard time.
[00:30:27] Like my only complaint about that I didn't like and it's not like something I didn't like
[00:30:30] about but something that I thought was going to happen that didn't end up happening.
[00:30:32] So we can sort of what it's about to say a spoiler because it didn't happen.
[00:30:35] Skip forward like a minute or so.
[00:30:37] But like they started like setting up as like the main conflict as being like why
[00:30:40] are the old memories suddenly becoming different emotions?
[00:30:43] And I thought what they were going to set up was that like it was going to be
[00:30:46] like, well, you know, I'm not going to be like, well, I'm not going to be like
[00:30:50] well, Riley ends up having bipolar and they're going to sell her in the
[00:30:53] back.
[00:30:54] Oh yeah, bipolar disorder because like it's a very common thing nowadays and
[00:30:56] like it'd be good for Disney.
[00:30:58] Like if anyone's going to do it, Disney's going to be like, hey, it's a very
[00:31:01] common thing to have mental illness.
[00:31:02] So just don't worry about it and kind of like be supportive of that.
[00:31:05] That's not what happened.
[00:31:06] I'm not going to say what happens in the end but that's the only thing
[00:31:09] I thought I was going to do and I thought it was going to be like, if
[00:31:11] that was the good thing, that would be my favorite from the year.
[00:31:13] It'd be like how far they were willing to take a kids film.
[00:31:15] But they don't do that.
[00:31:16] So it's like a four and a half star out of five.
[00:31:19] But yeah, so you know what?
[00:31:22] We got to a point where I did personally that I don't care if I cry
[00:31:25] in movies anymore.
[00:31:26] Oh yeah, yeah.
[00:31:27] You know before you're like, I'm never going to cry in movies.
[00:31:29] But yeah, dude I cried three times in Amazing Spider Man 2.
[00:31:31] That's like my go-to of people that say, you cry in movies.
[00:31:34] I'm like, yeah.
[00:31:35] If a movie, you love a movie so much and it tells you
[00:31:38] it's okay to be emotional.
[00:31:39] Yeah, I'm excited for movie news.
[00:31:41] Yeah?
[00:31:42] Yeah, because I mean you probably know what I'm talking about.
[00:31:44] Oh yeah.
[00:31:45] Yeah, that actor's made me cry before.
[00:31:48] Oh really?
[00:31:49] Oh yeah.
[00:31:50] Oh yeah.
[00:31:51] Oh you were talking about that.
[00:31:52] I was talking about the sad things that are going to happen in movie news.
[00:31:54] Well I mean it's going to be like a very, it's a very
[00:31:57] roller coaster of emotions podcast.
[00:31:59] It is, it is.
[00:32:01] So are you watching this movie?
[00:32:03] That's it?
[00:32:04] Oh I guess if we want to talk about TV2, I saw the three new HBO shows.
[00:32:07] Oh okay cool.
[00:32:08] About being season two of True Detective, the premiere,
[00:32:10] which I know like you didn't finish this, I'm not going to spoil anything about it.
[00:32:13] Well I mean we can talk about it.
[00:32:15] I have 20 minutes left and I don't care much for it yet.
[00:32:18] So we can absolutely, you can spoil the end of a first episode of a show that
[00:32:22] I'm not even sure I'm going to finish.
[00:32:24] Yeah yeah.
[00:32:25] Then I saw the pilot of Ballers, which is the new Dwayne Rock show,
[00:32:28] I'm assuming you saw that too.
[00:32:29] I did.
[00:32:30] Alright we'll talk about that.
[00:32:31] And then I saw The Brink, which is a show that like did not get a lot of
[00:32:33] promotion I don't think?
[00:32:34] It's like Ballers and True Detective got a lot of promotion because it's The
[00:32:37] Rock and True Detective, which is like a huge show.
[00:32:39] The Brink was not really well mentioned.
[00:32:41] Do you even hear about it?
[00:32:42] Yeah I mean I know Jack Black's in it.
[00:32:44] Jack Black is in it, it has Tim Robbins in it and then I don't know if any of you
[00:32:49] guys watched Orange Is The New Black.
[00:32:51] Have any of?
[00:32:52] There's one character who like left in the second season who's in the show now.
[00:32:55] He's like the best character in the entire Orange Is The New Black canon.
[00:32:57] Oh cool.
[00:32:58] So but yeah well in general True Detective is probably season two.
[00:33:03] I'll preference this by saying I did not like season one.
[00:33:06] I understand what people did like it but it's not my kind of thing.
[00:33:09] Did you not like any of season one or did you not like the end of season one?
[00:33:13] Well here's the thing.
[00:33:15] I thought I was liking season one and then it ended and I went oh well that
[00:33:20] wasn't very interesting was it?
[00:33:21] Here's what I don't like because I didn't watch it till it was all over.
[00:33:24] Sure.
[00:33:25] And because I think True Detective works as a like week to week show better
[00:33:31] than a marathon show because it's so slow moving and very deep and very like
[00:33:36] you need to be paying attention watching it very deeply.
[00:33:39] I think it's better to have like a week to digest every episode.
[00:33:42] Whereas like me I was just like I was like by like the seventh episode because
[00:33:45] I watched it all in one day.
[00:33:46] I was like oh my god and it was just exhausting to watch.
[00:33:49] And so I didn't like it just because of how slow moving it was and I think
[00:33:52] that's why a lot of people did not like season two is because it's a lot
[00:33:55] more fast paced and there's a lot more.
[00:33:57] Because like the main first season was like Woody Harrelson and
[00:34:00] Matthew Connaghey as like these two really deep characters and complex
[00:34:03] isn't just gonna have like eight characters and they're all going to be kind of complex.
[00:34:06] Yeah.
[00:34:07] And I think that'll be that's good for me because I just don't need to sit through
[00:34:11] another two like 12 hours of Matthew Connaghey and Woody Harrelson shooting
[00:34:15] shit and talking about demons or whatever were cold so I understand why people do
[00:34:19] like it just not my cup of tea so.
[00:34:21] That sounds better than it was in practice just for the record.
[00:34:24] Yeah.
[00:34:25] I would love to watch Woody Harrelson and Matthew Connaghey talk about
[00:34:28] demons for 12 hours but that is not quite what I got.
[00:34:32] Yeah I mean I think from watching the first episode of season two it's
[00:34:37] way all over the place and my biggest problem with it is that I still
[00:34:43] fucking hate everybody in the show.
[00:34:45] Yeah I mean like there's no one for me to like.
[00:34:47] Yeah yeah like the thing about it is like I don't really like I don't
[00:34:50] like all the characters but I don't really hate any of the characters either.
[00:34:53] True.
[00:34:54] Yeah I was pretty bored.
[00:34:56] Like I mean like quick spoilers for the first episode but like there's a
[00:35:00] scene in which Colin Farrell beats that one guy up not going to say who it is
[00:35:03] but he beats that one guy up and I'm not here for part of the entire episode
[00:35:06] because it was just like finally something's happening.
[00:35:08] Yeah.
[00:35:09] And so I mean it still wasn't great it wasn't like as good as like people were
[00:35:12] amping it up to be.
[00:35:13] No.
[00:35:14] But like I thought like you know I mean the characters are interesting
[00:35:16] enough they'll probably watch the next couple episodes but they're going
[00:35:19] to need to do something else to give me to watch the entire season.
[00:35:21] Yeah.
[00:35:22] Rachel McAdams character seems very convenient.
[00:35:24] Yeah.
[00:35:25] And I had somebody at work who came up to me and asked me like hey have
[00:35:28] you seen the first episode of True Did Active yet and I was like no no no
[00:35:31] and she was like oh it's way more angsty than the first season.
[00:35:35] Yeah I watched it.
[00:35:37] That is so true and what I realized is the show feels like
[00:35:41] the angsty teenager of television shows.
[00:35:45] Everything is dark and edgy and like I listen to my you know
[00:35:49] my dark emo music all day long and then I'm going to
[00:35:54] I'm just like yeah there's a lot of evidence in the back.
[00:35:57] Yeah.
[00:35:58] And I'm just like this is not every time that somebody comes to me and
[00:36:02] says like hey did you watch True Detective what do you think should I
[00:36:06] watch True Detective.
[00:36:07] I always go have you seen the first episode the first season of Fargo
[00:36:10] and they say no when I go you should go watch Fargo.
[00:36:13] Yeah.
[00:36:14] Like it's yeah.
[00:36:16] Just not more like because like my whole thing was like a filmmaker
[00:36:19] and as a film watcher and like whatever film and TV it's escapism
[00:36:23] it's you watch it to have fun.
[00:36:25] Right.
[00:36:26] If you watch something and just like it's just so depressing
[00:36:28] and just like you don't enjoy doing it then what's the point
[00:36:32] and so like with like the whole like True Detective versus Fargo
[00:36:35] thing Fargo was super entertaining because it like where
[00:36:37] True Detective is very like we're going to sit in a car and
[00:36:40] talk about things while all these horrible things are happening
[00:36:42] and Fargo you'll have like oh these horrible things are
[00:36:44] happening then this funny thing happens and this horrible
[00:36:46] thing happens like.
[00:36:47] And at least with Fargo I take something away like I like
[00:36:50] TV shows that I like the most even if they are
[00:36:54] popcorny shows like Alias or something like that
[00:36:57] is that I end up taking something away like they tell me a story
[00:37:02] and I'm like I like these characters.
[00:37:04] I like this story of what they did and there's nothing about
[00:37:06] True Detective that gives me that so yeah I mean I'll probably
[00:37:08] watch a few more episodes.
[00:37:10] You probably pissed off like in the same way.
[00:37:11] You probably pissed off 75% of the audience because I'm
[00:37:13] sure they all love it but um.
[00:37:14] That's great fuck them.
[00:37:15] But yeah that was my opinion that's our long opinion
[00:37:18] Detective.
[00:37:19] What about ballers?
[00:37:20] Ballers it's good it's just keep in mind it's like the exact
[00:37:23] same thing as entourage but with sports.
[00:37:25] Yeah but it's kind of like it's more jaded and real.
[00:37:28] And with the rock.
[00:37:29] Yeah with the rock.
[00:37:30] That's the thing it seems like it's a perfect vehicle
[00:37:32] for the rock.
[00:37:33] Oh yeah.
[00:37:34] Because in it he plays a football player who gets
[00:37:36] injured he can't play anymore.
[00:37:37] Yeah.
[00:37:38] He becomes like this high rolling guy.
[00:37:39] Yeah whatever.
[00:37:40] Whatever.
[00:37:41] Like and he spends money.
[00:37:42] Yeah.
[00:37:43] But it's like a dramedy really.
[00:37:45] Yeah.
[00:37:46] I think there's drama and comedy and I thought it's
[00:37:49] pretty fun.
[00:37:50] I thought it was fun too.
[00:37:51] I mean it's like the only thing is that like I'm
[00:37:52] not super into sports.
[00:37:53] Yeah.
[00:37:54] Whereas with entourage I loved it because I'm
[00:37:55] super into entertainment so like all like the
[00:37:57] jokes they made I got.
[00:37:58] Whereas I'm sure I missed like 50% of the stuff
[00:38:00] I mentioned this.
[00:38:01] See I'm into sports so maybe that's why I
[00:38:02] enjoyed it a little more.
[00:38:03] But yeah it seems it's a good vehicle for the
[00:38:05] rock.
[00:38:06] Yeah and it's like to start television this
[00:38:08] is a good way to start from.
[00:38:09] Like I have a theory about the rock in his
[00:38:10] acting career.
[00:38:11] If you notice he did all children's films as
[00:38:13] his first couple films.
[00:38:14] I think he did that style like he knew he wasn't
[00:38:16] a great actor so he just did all his films where
[00:38:18] the acting didn't matter.
[00:38:19] So that way he could kind of fine tune his chops
[00:38:21] so that way he can do some good stuff.
[00:38:23] Because the thing with the rock is he's already
[00:38:25] charismatic.
[00:38:26] Yeah.
[00:38:27] And I think you're right he I mean his first
[00:38:28] movie is obviously The Scorpion King where he
[00:38:29] really doesn't have to do anything.
[00:38:30] Yeah.
[00:38:31] But then he does stuff like the Tooth Fairy
[00:38:32] and the Game Plan.
[00:38:33] Yeah.
[00:38:34] And things like that and yeah you're right
[00:38:36] because he's working on his timing and
[00:38:38] he's working on how to be a presence on
[00:38:39] screen.
[00:38:40] Yeah and if you can do that by all means do
[00:38:41] that.
[00:38:42] And now you know you do stuff like the
[00:38:43] rundown.
[00:38:44] Yeah and it's like he's like one of my
[00:38:46] favorite actors now.
[00:38:47] Me too.
[00:38:48] I love him.
[00:38:49] And so I mean like I'm definitely going to
[00:38:50] watch more of Bollars just because it's
[00:38:52] like.
[00:38:53] It's just entertaining.
[00:38:54] Yeah it's very much like you put it on
[00:38:56] to play in the background or do something
[00:38:58] else and just kind of like fun to have.
[00:38:59] Yeah cool.
[00:39:00] And then The Brink is probably my favorite
[00:39:01] show of three.
[00:39:02] Oh wow.
[00:39:03] I think I strongly recommend it.
[00:39:04] It's basically Jack Black plays kind of
[00:39:07] like a loser kind of guy who works
[00:39:09] in camera work.
[00:39:10] It's like some kind of Middle Eastern
[00:39:12] country and he works in the US Embassy.
[00:39:14] And it's during this big uprising and
[00:39:16] I think they all hate the US.
[00:39:19] So it's about like he's there and so he's
[00:39:22] dealing with that.
[00:39:23] Meanwhile Tim Romman is like I think he's
[00:39:25] like the secretary of defense and like
[00:39:27] he's dealing with the president being
[00:39:29] like how are we going to stop them all
[00:39:31] from doing this kind of thing.
[00:39:32] And then like the first episode is very
[00:39:34] much a set up kind of episode.
[00:39:35] And so you have like those two characters
[00:39:37] and you have Pablo Schreiber who's
[00:39:39] a Lee Schreiber's brother who's in it.
[00:39:40] He's the orange and the black guy.
[00:39:41] He plays a fighter pilot who's also a
[00:39:43] drug dealer.
[00:39:44] And so it's very much a set up kind of
[00:39:47] episode at first but like I watched it
[00:39:49] twice and I feel like if you pay
[00:39:52] attention to it it's a very dark comedy.
[00:39:54] You watch it and I feel like you'll be
[00:39:56] like it's okay.
[00:39:58] It's very it's fun and like that's
[00:40:00] the one I'm most looking forward to
[00:40:02] seeing the more episodes of because
[00:40:03] I'm interested in seeing where it goes.
[00:40:04] And so the characters are all great
[00:40:06] and so that's why I love it.
[00:40:07] But I mean like overall this season
[00:40:12] of like the three shows that HBO is doing
[00:40:14] is far weaker than the last one they just
[00:40:16] did.
[00:40:17] Like Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley and
[00:40:18] Veep.
[00:40:19] Like those three shows were all amazing
[00:40:21] and none of these shows are on par with
[00:40:23] that.
[00:40:24] So cool.
[00:40:25] Yeah.
[00:40:26] Very cool.
[00:40:27] There goes 30 minutes.
[00:40:29] That's alright.
[00:40:30] That's why we're here.
[00:40:31] Brad would you...
[00:40:32] He's not even paying attention.
[00:40:33] Do you want to go next?
[00:40:35] Sure.
[00:40:36] Brad would you watch?
[00:40:37] I saw Jurassic World again.
[00:40:39] Nice.
[00:40:40] In 3D this time.
[00:40:41] Is it good in 3D?
[00:40:42] Yeah, it's pretty good in 3D.
[00:40:43] Oh, I'm actually 3D.
[00:40:45] Sorry.
[00:40:46] Did enhance your experience with it?
[00:40:48] A little bit.
[00:40:49] Oddly enough I still managed to get
[00:40:51] a distracting bunch of fucking people
[00:40:53] behind me.
[00:40:54] That sucks when you spend $18 for a
[00:40:55] movie ticket.
[00:40:56] Yeah.
[00:40:57] The lady was kicking my seat and I
[00:40:58] totally like leaned back and slammed
[00:41:00] my chair against her feet and
[00:41:01] then she just kicked my seat even
[00:41:02] harder after that.
[00:41:03] So...
[00:41:04] Like actually like legit kicked it.
[00:41:05] Wow, okay.
[00:41:06] That's what you get when you go to
[00:41:07] a regular theater.
[00:41:08] She was total cunt.
[00:41:10] Anyway...
[00:41:11] But other than that,
[00:41:13] eventually I just got up and moved
[00:41:14] the one night next to me.
[00:41:16] But yeah, it was...
[00:41:18] Again, the story was what I said
[00:41:20] last time.
[00:41:21] It was okay.
[00:41:22] Yeah, yeah.
[00:41:23] But yeah, the 3D was pretty good.
[00:41:26] Like I was kind of immersed in
[00:41:27] the dinosaur attacks and stuff.
[00:41:29] So, felt like I was flying over
[00:41:31] it as they were doing there.
[00:41:33] It was interesting when I saw
[00:41:34] Jurassic World, I saw it like the
[00:41:35] Friday opened and I wasn't like
[00:41:37] super excited.
[00:41:38] For some reason I wasn't really
[00:41:39] like a big Jurassic Park fan so I
[00:41:40] was like, you know what I'll see
[00:41:41] because it's in the Jurassic Park
[00:41:42] and I'm like the first one so
[00:41:43] I'll go see it.
[00:41:44] So I saw it on like a 10
[00:41:45] 30 at night showing and like
[00:41:47] it was still packed because it
[00:41:48] was the opening night of
[00:41:49] Jurassic World.
[00:41:50] But I was like sitting next to
[00:41:51] this like two different birthday
[00:41:53] parties both of which were like
[00:41:55] for like six year olds.
[00:41:57] And like that's kind of dark
[00:41:58] for six year olds.
[00:41:59] Like there's some...
[00:42:00] And at 1030 at night.
[00:42:01] Yeah, like...
[00:42:02] Like what happened was like because
[00:42:03] like the first 30 minutes or so
[00:42:05] like you guys talked about
[00:42:06] it's very tame.
[00:42:07] It's just like dinosaur, it's fun.
[00:42:08] Yay!
[00:42:09] And then when the horror starts
[00:42:10] it was like one by one
[00:42:12] every five minutes one of them
[00:42:13] would leave the theater
[00:42:14] like either in tears
[00:42:16] or just like rushing out
[00:42:17] because they were too scared.
[00:42:18] Like that was a fun
[00:42:19] experience to sit in between
[00:42:20] those.
[00:42:21] That's funny I think that
[00:42:22] movie is like it scares the
[00:42:24] first one.
[00:42:25] So...
[00:42:26] Well yeah but I mean like
[00:42:27] the first one it's just
[00:42:28] because like I think it's
[00:42:29] parents that dragged them
[00:42:30] to this movie so.
[00:42:31] It was like it's your birthday
[00:42:33] or we're going to go see Jurassic World.
[00:42:35] We're not waiting...
[00:42:36] We're not waiting for inside out.
[00:42:37] We're not waiting for inside out.
[00:42:38] We're not waiting for inside out.
[00:42:39] Yeah.
[00:42:40] So yeah that and then also
[00:42:42] watched Oscar.
[00:42:44] The Star of Lester Stallone movie?
[00:42:46] Yeah.
[00:42:47] Oh.
[00:42:48] Anyone else seen it?
[00:42:49] I don't know.
[00:42:50] So Oscar is a...
[00:42:51] I think it's based on a play
[00:42:53] but it feels very much like clue.
[00:42:55] Like I'm watching clue
[00:42:56] like the production value
[00:42:57] and like the tone of the movie.
[00:42:59] Huh.
[00:43:00] Except yeah.
[00:43:01] Is it awesome like clue?
[00:43:03] No.
[00:43:04] Do you think it's good?
[00:43:06] It has a certain charm to it.
[00:43:08] Like the jokes are really corny.
[00:43:10] Okay.
[00:43:11] But even Tim Curry is in it.
[00:43:13] Oh damn it.
[00:43:14] Yeah he plays this
[00:43:15] linguist professor
[00:43:17] but basically the premise is
[00:43:21] Sylvester Stallone's character
[00:43:24] what was it?
[00:43:27] What's his name?
[00:43:28] Oscar.
[00:43:29] No no Oscar is the name of
[00:43:31] this character who you don't see until
[00:43:33] the very end of the movie because
[00:43:35] What's name the movie after him then?
[00:43:37] What's name the movie after him then?
[00:43:39] Something about Guffman.
[00:43:41] Oh Provolone.
[00:43:43] It's something Provolone.
[00:43:45] Cheddar?
[00:43:47] Well that's the thing it's like
[00:43:48] it's meant to be cheesy like that.
[00:43:51] Sliceless?
[00:43:53] Cheesy.
[00:43:54] Provolone.
[00:43:55] I'm more.
[00:43:56] Anyway.
[00:43:57] So he's like this mobster
[00:43:59] his dad dies Kirk Douglas
[00:44:01] plays his dad like early on
[00:44:03] it's the movies full of cameos
[00:44:05] by a lot of famous people
[00:44:07] from like the late 80s
[00:44:09] yeah stars and stuff
[00:44:11] but his dad dies
[00:44:13] and his dad's like you know
[00:44:14] I want you to stop being a mobster
[00:44:16] if you do that like I can die in peace
[00:44:18] and so Sylvester Stallone
[00:44:20] swears that he will
[00:44:22] and so like two months later
[00:44:24] he's finally like on his way out of the mob scene
[00:44:28] but the local police
[00:44:31] don't believe him
[00:44:32] they think he's up to something
[00:44:34] so they're constantly like surveilling him
[00:44:36] and then his daughter
[00:44:38] wants to get out of the house
[00:44:40] like she wants to leave the family
[00:44:42] and to do that she
[00:44:43] like she wants
[00:44:45] she wants to be with Oscar
[00:44:46] but since he's just like this
[00:44:48] lowly chauffeur
[00:44:50] like his parents
[00:44:52] her parents aren't cool with that
[00:44:54] so she makes up this story
[00:44:56] that she's pregnant
[00:44:58] with Oscar's baby
[00:45:00] but since Oscar's like AWOL
[00:45:04] for some reason they have to
[00:45:06] have her marry someone else
[00:45:08] so like it all takes place
[00:45:10] like in one house like Clue
[00:45:12] and they're all running from room to room
[00:45:14] like trying to solve these things
[00:45:16] like there's also this mix up where
[00:45:18] like someone who
[00:45:20] is the accountant for
[00:45:22] Sylvester Stallone
[00:45:24] you think he wants to marry
[00:45:26] his daughter but he's actually talking
[00:45:28] about another woman he met
[00:45:30] and like he also ripped off like $50,000
[00:45:32] from him
[00:45:34] and then Sylvester Stallone has to
[00:45:36] do some deal where they get it back
[00:45:38] and then later on you find out
[00:45:40] he stole like another $50,000
[00:45:42] meanwhile all these people are
[00:45:44] coming to the door like all these new characters
[00:45:46] are coming to the door and getting involved
[00:45:48] and everyone's trying to figure out like who Oscar is
[00:45:50] and all these identities are getting mixed up
[00:45:52] and so
[00:45:54] yeah
[00:45:56] weird
[00:45:58] it sounds like a film that's like
[00:46:00] the director wanted to make a complex film
[00:46:02] so he just thought like we'll have like 15 plot lines
[00:46:04] going at once and that's what's gonna make it
[00:46:06] complex so
[00:46:08] well I think it's based on a play so there's the
[00:46:10] and it's John Landis actually is the director
[00:46:12] the murderer
[00:46:14] yep that's the one
[00:46:16] and then like
[00:46:18] is it okay to do that yet
[00:46:20] yeah
[00:46:22] shouldn't have those kids on set
[00:46:24] anyway
[00:46:26] yeah Marissa Tome is the daughter
[00:46:28] yeah Tim Curry's in it
[00:46:30] Don Amici's like this priest
[00:46:32] in it
[00:46:34] who else
[00:46:36] and you can tell how old the movie is because Marissa Tome
[00:46:38] was somebody was like the little girl in the movie
[00:46:40] yeah
[00:46:42] um
[00:46:44] Chaz Pimentieri's like
[00:46:46] his right hand man
[00:46:48] he's also like an idiot
[00:46:50] at one point he like the bag that's supposed to have
[00:46:52] like there's this bag of cash
[00:46:54] and it constantly gets mixed up with like a bag of jewels
[00:46:56] and like a bag of lingerie
[00:46:58] it's like changing hands on accident
[00:47:00] hilarious going out
[00:47:02] I like you
[00:47:04] anyway
[00:47:08] so should I see it
[00:47:10] I think it's worth checking out
[00:47:12] cool
[00:47:14] how did you with it on Netflix?
[00:47:16] no I own the DVD
[00:47:18] I've been looking on my shelf at these old DVDs
[00:47:20] because I spend most of my time watching Blue Rays
[00:47:22] and I was just like I should be on watch
[00:47:24] something that I haven't popped in for like 10 years
[00:47:26] gotcha
[00:47:28] cool
[00:47:30] that's it for me
[00:47:32] I mean I've been watching reruns of The Office
[00:47:34] but we've talked about that plenty
[00:47:36] Parkour
[00:47:38] me?
[00:47:40] cool
[00:47:42] so we already talked about True Detective
[00:47:44] I started watching
[00:47:46] Starz
[00:47:48] Black Sales this week
[00:47:50] which is a show produced by Michael Bay
[00:47:52] yeah
[00:47:54] it's a pirate show
[00:47:56] so it's like 8 episodes I was at the best buy
[00:47:58] and they had the first season for cheap and I was like
[00:48:00] I like this cover
[00:48:02] and I like pirates
[00:48:04] the cover is cool because it's like a guy
[00:48:06] who's just in front of him
[00:48:08] and it's just arted up so that it kind of looks
[00:48:10] like a skull in crossbones
[00:48:12] but it's also a dude
[00:48:14] anyway
[00:48:16] so I was like okay it's like a pirate show
[00:48:18] and I like pirate stuff so whatever
[00:48:20] and it's pretty good
[00:48:22] it's basically like Deadwood
[00:48:24] but with pirates
[00:48:26] so it takes place in that piratey world
[00:48:28] but they talk
[00:48:30] and the tone of the show is very much like Deadwood
[00:48:32] so they don't say
[00:48:34] they talk quite as much but they say
[00:48:36] they swear using modern slang
[00:48:38] quite a bit
[00:48:40] when they'll even like
[00:48:42] they'll reference certain things every now and then
[00:48:44] I'm like I wanna know if that was the thing
[00:48:46] and like
[00:48:48] did they have that word back then
[00:48:50] anyway
[00:48:52] but that's not the part that matters
[00:48:54] it takes place in Nassau
[00:48:56] and the main characters
[00:48:58] are on
[00:49:00] a ship captained by
[00:49:02] Captain Flint
[00:49:04] who what we learned in the first episode
[00:49:06] or so is that he
[00:49:08] is aware of a
[00:49:10] Spanish galleon that is full of like
[00:49:12] you know I think they at one point say
[00:49:14] that it's like 5 million dollars in gold
[00:49:16] which of course to them is like
[00:49:18] 5 billion dollars in gold
[00:49:20] and
[00:49:22] and it's floating out there
[00:49:24] and they
[00:49:26] he had figured out the ship that had a schedule
[00:49:28] of where that boat was gonna be
[00:49:30] and the show starts with them attacking that ship
[00:49:32] and when
[00:49:34] while they're attacking the ship we meet
[00:49:36] John Silver
[00:49:38] and John Silver sort of
[00:49:40] survives the attack
[00:49:42] and ends up on this ship
[00:49:44] with on Captain Flint's ship
[00:49:46] and it turns out he had actually
[00:49:48] he knew what was going on and he had stolen
[00:49:50] that paper and so there begins
[00:49:52] this sort of intrigue of like
[00:49:54] okay because when Flint gets onto the ship
[00:49:56] he finds the book that he expects
[00:49:58] scheduled to be in and it's not there
[00:50:00] and it begins this whole intrigue of like
[00:50:02] who has this information
[00:50:04] the fact that they've been
[00:50:06] basically hunting information rather than
[00:50:08] hunting ships that have actual
[00:50:10] treasure on them of course starts sort
[00:50:12] of a mutiny on Flint's ship and this is all
[00:50:14] in sort of the first episode
[00:50:16] and it starts setting up this idea that
[00:50:20] Flint is more intelligent
[00:50:22] than most of the other pirates
[00:50:24] he's clearly like an educated guy
[00:50:26] his girlfriend back
[00:50:28] in Nassau
[00:50:30] he likes to go and just spend time with her
[00:50:32] like reading poetry in the field
[00:50:34] like he's a smart guy and what he
[00:50:36] understands is that their way of life
[00:50:38] is going to start coming to an end and that
[00:50:40] as more and more
[00:50:42] British colonists and British military
[00:50:44] come over like it's gonna be much harder
[00:50:46] for them to live this free life that they live
[00:50:48] so he really wants to
[00:50:50] find this ship so that he and all of
[00:50:52] his guys can
[00:50:54] get enough money to basically
[00:50:56] make Nassau into its own country
[00:50:58] get enough guns that when that happens
[00:51:00] they can defend themselves and continue to live
[00:51:02] this lifestyle
[00:51:04] and it's just a really cool idea for
[00:51:06] show the production values are really good
[00:51:08] I mean it's only
[00:51:10] 8 episodes long but it's a neat little
[00:51:12] story
[00:51:14] there's things about it that I don't
[00:51:16] there's one
[00:51:18] one who's like black and it's like full
[00:51:20] frontal all the time
[00:51:22] that's the only thing I know about the show
[00:51:24] she does it online all the time
[00:51:26] it's like here's the give of her
[00:51:28] like holding the sheets up this week
[00:51:30] it's like every single week it comes up
[00:51:32] it's true there's a lot of new today in the show
[00:51:34] yes
[00:51:36] I love me some stars they love new to be on that
[00:51:38] every time
[00:51:40] yeah so I definitely would recommend
[00:51:42] it I mean it's pretty short
[00:51:44] if you have a chance to check it out
[00:51:46] I think it's pretty cool
[00:51:48] so I would definitely be looking for a second season
[00:51:50] and it's pirates like it's hard
[00:51:52] it's hard to not make pirates fun to be completely honest
[00:51:54] like I was
[00:51:56] I was pretty sure I was going to be okay with it
[00:51:58] I know they did it on on Stranger Tides
[00:52:00] yeah I was going to say is there like a wacky
[00:52:02] pirate that has fun and holds a jar of dirt
[00:52:04] because if not I don't care
[00:52:06] no there is no
[00:52:08] there is no Jack Sparrow
[00:52:10] equivalents
[00:52:12] we're out
[00:52:14] oh no wait there's naked chicks
[00:52:16] I'm in
[00:52:18] I'm in for it
[00:52:20] I'm balls deep
[00:52:22] so
[00:52:24] damn it
[00:52:26] I'm sorry Carol
[00:52:28] always have to apologize to my mom
[00:52:30] apologize to my parents too
[00:52:32] as a primer for the big conversation that's coming
[00:52:34] I went and saw Jurassic Park
[00:52:36] at Redbrox this week
[00:52:38] one of the like night time showings
[00:52:40] right
[00:52:42] okay so yeah Jurassic Park
[00:52:44] dude that movie is fucking awesome
[00:52:46] the script is so tight
[00:52:48] like when you really get to sit down and watch that movie
[00:52:50] it just it feel like it gets better every time
[00:52:52] that I really like give it a give it a time
[00:52:54] I feel like it goes faster every time I watch it
[00:52:56] well this time it didn't because I was really tired
[00:52:58] because it wasn't over until like 1130 so by the time
[00:53:00] I was getting near the end I was like
[00:53:02] I'm so tired because it was after a day of work right
[00:53:04] so I was pretty worn out
[00:53:06] but yes I do agree with you that like
[00:53:08] especially though because I love the first half
[00:53:10] so much I love all the part where there's no dinosaurs
[00:53:12] that part's over so way too fast
[00:53:14] I know because actually it's funny
[00:53:16] I was flipping through channels at work the other day
[00:53:18] and it was on I just left it on
[00:53:20] and the part where Tim is following
[00:53:22] Dr. Grant through like the cars and stuff
[00:53:24] and what car are you gonna be in
[00:53:26] whichever one you are yeah that's great
[00:53:28] I love it
[00:53:30] it was really cool like so
[00:53:32] the good things about seeing a movie at Redbrox
[00:53:34] were things like the scene when
[00:53:36] when Jeff Goldblum gives a speech about
[00:53:38] you know what you call discovery I call the rip of the natural world
[00:53:40] when that scene starts
[00:53:42] the whole audience started to cheer
[00:53:44] because they which to me is so insane
[00:53:46] and is such a
[00:53:48] a token of how great David Kep's script is
[00:53:50] that like a scene that everybody knows
[00:53:52] that's not true
[00:53:54] that's not true
[00:53:56] the
[00:53:58] a scene that is just people talking
[00:54:00] everyone was so excited
[00:54:02] for it like that is a really cool moment
[00:54:04] the problem is is that I'm pretty sure
[00:54:06] I would rather have
[00:54:08] like all of the skin peeled off my back
[00:54:10] than ever go see a movie at Redbrox
[00:54:12] ever again because
[00:54:14] the seats are uncomfortable
[00:54:16] no it's not that it's because you were surrounded by
[00:54:18] fucking drunk assholes the whole fucking time
[00:54:20] who like I'm fine
[00:54:22] I love going to the Esquire to a midnight screening
[00:54:24] I've said before that my favorite
[00:54:26] the most fun I've ever had seeing Pulp Fiction
[00:54:28] was at the Esquire at midnight
[00:54:30] you have an audience full of people who appreciate that movie
[00:54:32] they know it like the back of their hand
[00:54:34] and yeah they're gonna comment every now and then
[00:54:36] and they're gonna like you know make a joke or whatever
[00:54:38] I'm fine because at least they're interacting with the movie
[00:54:40] dude there was a girl
[00:54:42] who like was just far enough away from me that I couldn't say anything
[00:54:44] who would just go
[00:54:46] uh uh uh
[00:54:48] you didn't say the magic word
[00:54:50] at the wrong time at one point she screamed out
[00:54:52] where's the goat
[00:54:54] it was not the part where the goat
[00:54:56] disappears
[00:54:58] she just remembered that at some point
[00:55:00] in this movie there is a goat
[00:55:02] like shit like that where I'm like oh my god
[00:55:04] where they would
[00:55:06] quote the movie
[00:55:08] like you'd hear them say the quote of the movie
[00:55:10] and they would get it wrong
[00:55:12] just in that way
[00:55:14] just wrong enough that you were like
[00:55:16] you think you're smart and know this movie really well
[00:55:18] but you clearly fucking don't
[00:55:20] I do love the opening scene with Nedry too
[00:55:22] oh yeah yeah
[00:55:24] man it
[00:55:26] anyway movies are really good
[00:55:28] people should see Jurassic Park
[00:55:30] except not at Red Rocks
[00:55:32] so I also this week went and saw Jurassic World
[00:55:34] because of course like between the two of you
[00:55:36] I was like
[00:55:38] hey I need to see it because I like Jurassic Park a lot
[00:55:40] and I like the Lost World a lot
[00:55:42] and
[00:55:44] I was never much of a fan of Jurassic Park 3
[00:55:46] so I was like okay I gotta
[00:55:48] I gotta figure out where
[00:55:50] am I gonna land between
[00:55:52] Brad and Ryan right
[00:55:54] so drumroll
[00:55:56] he's gonna be such a pussy
[00:55:58] no actually I like it less than either of you
[00:56:00] I really
[00:56:02] really don't like
[00:56:04] I was okay with it
[00:56:06] I think when I walked out of the theater
[00:56:08] and then the more I think about that movie the less I like it
[00:56:10] why
[00:56:12] I wanna get off my chest
[00:56:14] no I wanna get off my chest first
[00:56:18] the thing that pissed me off the most
[00:56:20] is that this score is embarrassing
[00:56:22] Ted too
[00:56:24] uses the score to Jurassic Park better
[00:56:26] than Jurassic World does
[00:56:28] and when Michael Jiquino's name came up
[00:56:30] at the beginning of those trailers
[00:56:32] I was so fucking pissed at him
[00:56:34] I was like what is this shit
[00:56:36] remember that part where they're walking in the hotel room
[00:56:38] and it has like the huge part of the score
[00:56:40] just before he opens the doors
[00:56:42] I'm like is it odd place for this
[00:56:44] well
[00:56:46] it's so misuse
[00:56:48] thing we've always seen
[00:56:50] and they're walking into a room
[00:56:52] and I'll give him some of it's not his fault
[00:56:54] because he has these moments when he knows
[00:56:56] okay here's the helicopter shot
[00:56:58] recreated
[00:57:00] going to the island right
[00:57:02] so he's like this is where I have to use that
[00:57:04] I have to use that piece of music
[00:57:06] but the shots not long enough
[00:57:08] so I can't actually fit it in
[00:57:10] so it's just like shoved in there
[00:57:12] all half assed like and then he moves away
[00:57:14] and it's just jarring
[00:57:16] and
[00:57:18] I went into the movie like not
[00:57:20] super looking forward to it just being like
[00:57:22] you know what I wanna see a fun dinosaur movie
[00:57:24] you gotta see it
[00:57:26] I think the movie is just really a mess
[00:57:28] like I hate those kids
[00:57:30] oh I do too the kids are the worst part of the entire film
[00:57:32] I think their subplot is completely botched
[00:57:34] like I think that I think the idea
[00:57:36] of their subplot
[00:57:38] the idea of I mean I would agree with
[00:57:40] the story that you wrote of like look
[00:57:42] they're kind of telling the same story we've seen again
[00:57:44] but
[00:57:46] the difference here is that the idea of here's two kids
[00:57:48] that actually like
[00:57:50] their mom even says
[00:57:52] I don't want them left alone together
[00:57:54] the older brother's gonna pick on the young one
[00:57:56] to death like
[00:57:58] they can't be left alone
[00:58:00] and then we don't see that
[00:58:02] it's so inconsistent so sometimes he's mean
[00:58:04] and sometimes he's not
[00:58:06] then there's this train scene
[00:58:08] where the young one breaks out crying
[00:58:10] and my parents are getting divorced
[00:58:12] that plot goes nowhere
[00:58:14] it means nothing and it's just frustrating
[00:58:16] and so I end up not caring
[00:58:18] you know why the kids are in a Jurassic world though right
[00:58:20] yeah cause they like dinosaurs
[00:58:22] no the parents sent them there
[00:58:24] so they could get a divorce while they're not around
[00:58:26] do you know what
[00:58:28] guys
[00:58:30] you know what doesn't matter
[00:58:32] that fucking detail
[00:58:34] like those characters are not in the movie
[00:58:36] so why should I care
[00:58:38] like I'm supposed to care about those two kids
[00:58:40] like
[00:58:42] those are the kids I'm supposed to care about and I don't
[00:58:44] I'm supposed to care about Chris Pratt
[00:58:46] yeah and Chris Pratt is fine
[00:58:48] like Chris Pratt is just fine
[00:58:50] the other thing here is
[00:58:52] I'm picking on these guys and they don't like movies
[00:58:54] whoever decided
[00:58:56] like I understand Stan Winston is dead
[00:58:58] it's one of the biggest tragedies in Hollywood
[00:59:00] in the last 20 years unfortunately
[00:59:02] whoever decided that they shouldn't use animatronic
[00:59:04] dinosaurs pretty much at all
[00:59:06] should be fucking fired because the fact
[00:59:08] that they use CGT
[00:59:10] like velociraptors when the velociraptors
[00:59:12] heads are locked in a cage
[00:59:14] is a fucking idiot none of it looks real
[00:59:16] watching Jurassic Park
[00:59:18] a movie that is 22 years old
[00:59:20] this week like this year
[00:59:22] that whole movie looks more real
[00:59:24] than everything I saw
[00:59:26] in Jurassic World none of it feels
[00:59:28] grounded at all
[00:59:30] and I like movies with CG
[00:59:32] it's not a jaded thing at all
[00:59:34] no no no wait wait wait because you guys
[00:59:36] always say this stuff but you should go back
[00:59:38] and really watch
[00:59:40] I fucking did there are shots in that movie
[00:59:42] that don't hold up
[00:59:44] let me tell them mine
[00:59:46] so you guys like the animatronic
[00:59:48] do you remember with the animatronic T-Rex
[00:59:50] in Jurassic Park? Yeah
[00:59:52] the two legs that stand and don't move
[00:59:54] yeah I remember that too
[00:59:56] but you know you don't really notice
[00:59:58] do you remember
[01:00:00] what I noticed too in Lost World
[01:00:02] is when they hide the T-Rexes behind trees
[01:00:04] because you don't want to see the whole body
[01:00:06] I remember stuff like that
[01:00:08] do you remember how amazing the sequence is
[01:00:10] with the Triceratops
[01:00:12] when they go up to it and touch it
[01:00:14] and it moves and it feels so real
[01:00:16] that everything those characters
[01:00:18] like those characters are reacting
[01:00:20] to a real animal
[01:00:22] and they're reacting the way they would
[01:00:24] if they really had a dinosaur in front of them
[01:00:26] and nothing rings true in Jurassic World for me
[01:00:28] none of it dies
[01:00:30] how long was that a pet-a-sourced death scene?
[01:00:32] oh uh yeah
[01:00:34] hung on to that so long
[01:00:36] long enough that you could pick apart
[01:00:38] you know CGI
[01:00:40] and animatronic
[01:00:42] and okay the other thing is
[01:00:44] I think
[01:00:46] I don't know that Bryce Dallas Howard was bad
[01:00:48] but I don't know that she really had
[01:00:52] she doesn't build a character that I'm
[01:00:54] terribly interested in
[01:00:56] well like here's my point with it, in the beginning
[01:00:58] you have the three storylines, you have the kids storyline
[01:01:00] Chris Pratt storyline and her storyline
[01:01:02] and the only one I really cared about was Chris Pratt storyline
[01:01:04] because like Bryce Dallas Howard
[01:01:06] she gets good but in the beginning
[01:01:08] she kind of has this very emotionless
[01:01:10] kind of character in a way
[01:01:12] she's like I'm very business oriented and I just want to make sure that everyone's
[01:01:14] having a good time
[01:01:16] we're making money, that's all she kind of cares about
[01:01:18] the kids storyline
[01:01:20] is bullshit
[01:01:22] potentially awesome but poorly
[01:01:24] oh yeah, my problem with it is that
[01:01:26] in the very beginning of the film, especially the teenage kid
[01:01:28] you have him
[01:01:30] leaving his girlfriend
[01:01:32] and she's like I love you and texts me every day
[01:01:34] and he says I will text you every day, I love you
[01:01:36] and then he proceeds to I fuck
[01:01:38] the little girl that looks at him at the park
[01:01:40] which is just a fucking awkward thing
[01:01:42] yeah I was like okay listen
[01:01:44] he's a teenage kid
[01:01:46] the fact that he's dating someone
[01:01:48] and then you see that he's dating someone
[01:01:50] and then he's purposefully cheating on them
[01:01:52] I'm like okay
[01:01:54] it's not even that though
[01:01:56] my wife told me Chris Hemsworth is a don
[01:01:58] you guys, he's got to accept things from life
[01:02:02] there's one other piece
[01:02:04] of this that really rubs me the wrong way
[01:02:06] and this is
[01:02:08] I want to be upfront, this is totally
[01:02:10] no no, I'm not going to say anything about Mad Max
[01:02:12] this is totally me being
[01:02:14] a fucking nerd
[01:02:16] and if you say dinosaur feathers
[01:02:18] not even nitpicking anything
[01:02:20] in fact I'm going to go the opposite way
[01:02:22] the best written sequence
[01:02:24] and the smartest sequence in this movie
[01:02:26] is the scene
[01:02:28] where BD Wong gives a speech explaining
[01:02:30] that they've never been fucking dinosaurs
[01:02:32] they've always like
[01:02:34] he explains away the whole argument for anybody who comes to this movie
[01:02:36] and is like this is stupid like why is the main bad guy
[01:02:38] like not a real dinosaur
[01:02:40] they've never been dinosaurs
[01:02:42] they've always been genetic freaks
[01:02:44] and science stuff
[01:02:46] they've never really been dinosaurs
[01:02:48] his speech there is so good
[01:02:50] I hate two things
[01:02:52] oh and first let me say that the fucking
[01:02:54] what are your name like four things you hate
[01:02:56] but I mean things that they do
[01:02:58] to the canon
[01:03:00] I hate that the guy who runs Jurassic Park
[01:03:02] he rewrites everything that John Hammond says at the end of
[01:03:04] the Lost World
[01:03:06] to say oh no no John Hammond decided
[01:03:08] that he wanted me to run this park
[01:03:10] that's fucking the opposite of what he says at the end of the Lost World
[01:03:12] which is a beautiful little speech he gives
[01:03:14] and two
[01:03:16] they make fucking Henry Woo into a bad guy
[01:03:18] and I hate that
[01:03:20] I rewatching Jurassic Park
[01:03:22] I love that character so much
[01:03:24] he's innocent
[01:03:26] he's the embodiment of everything that
[01:03:28] really in Jurassic Park for like five minutes
[01:03:30] but he's the embodiment of all of the
[01:03:32] innocence that
[01:03:34] that Jeff Goldblum
[01:03:36] is talking about in that speech that I referenced earlier
[01:03:38] right?
[01:03:40] we're talking about like
[01:03:42] yep I don't want him to
[01:03:44] that's what I'm saying this is me being nitpicky
[01:03:46] and geeky
[01:03:48] I like that character
[01:03:50] you fucked with that character because you thought it would be fun
[01:03:52] and I don't like that
[01:03:54] no I just I don't like it
[01:03:56] it rubs me the wrong way
[01:03:58] remember when I told you that
[01:04:00] I don't but yeah
[01:04:02] what's his name it's not for his character
[01:04:04] I
[01:04:06] surmised that he
[01:04:08] turned off the thermal detector so that the
[01:04:10] the dominance would get out
[01:04:12] and the scratches were just a diversion
[01:04:14] I like that way better than the actual story
[01:04:16] I didn't realize because I was distracted
[01:04:18] the first time I saw it
[01:04:20] Dr. Woo
[01:04:22] he gets in the helicopter and he says like am I going to be taken care of
[01:04:24] and so I finally realized
[01:04:26] the whole time they were working together
[01:04:28] to get the dinosaur to break out
[01:04:30] so that he could use the velociraptors
[01:04:32] on the dinosaur and like build his
[01:04:34] that's such a convalescent fucking story though
[01:04:36] but I didn't
[01:04:38] when you told me it was like oh yeah the
[01:04:40] dominance just got on its own it's like
[01:04:42] no it was totally
[01:04:44] Danofrio
[01:04:46] no but that's not what happens because
[01:04:48] because what actually the reason it gets out
[01:04:50] is because some dumb guard
[01:04:52] opens a door
[01:04:54] he sabotaged
[01:04:56] hoping that
[01:04:58] I don't know
[01:05:00] I think that the movie that I saw
[01:05:02] says that that thing has like some kind of
[01:05:04] what did he pay Dr. Woo to do then
[01:05:06] I don't know just make dinosaurs
[01:05:08] but the
[01:05:10] owner of the park paid him to make dinosaurs
[01:05:12] dude I don't fucking know
[01:05:14] what was stuck to him?
[01:05:16] I think the movie is a mess
[01:05:18] he helped him turn off the thermal thing
[01:05:20] that could be
[01:05:22] it doesn't make it more interesting
[01:05:24] no I'm just saying
[01:05:26] it's a theory that doesn't come across very well
[01:05:28] yeah so this
[01:05:30] I'm gonna say the thing that Ryan's really gonna hate
[01:05:32] which is that I think it's a tragedy to me
[01:05:34] that this movie ends with like
[01:05:36] two giant dinosaurs
[01:05:38] and a bunch of raptors fighting each other
[01:05:40] and I don't feel any of it
[01:05:42] three giant dinosaurs
[01:05:44] you're already forgetting the pool one
[01:05:46] oh yeah and the pool one you're right
[01:05:48] so three giant dinosaurs
[01:05:50] fighting each other and
[01:05:52] it
[01:05:54] it kind of feels like the end of Incredible Hulk
[01:05:56] where you just have like these big things
[01:05:58] smashing against each other
[01:06:00] just out of problem
[01:06:02] yeah because it doesn't swell
[01:06:04] in me the way that
[01:06:06] just that one shot of the T-Rex
[01:06:08] at the end of Jurassic Park does
[01:06:10] and again it is entirely unfair
[01:06:12] to compare any movie
[01:06:14] to Jurassic Park except for
[01:06:16] one that is a sequel to Jurassic Park
[01:06:18] like for me
[01:06:20] it just doesn't feel
[01:06:22] real at all and I don't know
[01:06:24] entirely that that's a CG and not just the staging
[01:06:26] I don't know that Colin Trevor obviously is a good
[01:06:28] choice for making a big action movie
[01:06:30] when he had only made one small
[01:06:32] one small comedy
[01:06:34] right because I do think
[01:06:36] I think that like the pacing
[01:06:38] I think the way that that movie is set up
[01:06:40] they release that dinosaur
[01:06:42] way too early if you compare it to
[01:06:44] something like the original Jurassic Park
[01:06:46] where they spend most of the time setting things up
[01:06:48] and talking about those scenes that last week
[01:06:50] I talked about loving so much
[01:06:52] about like
[01:06:54] how wonderful dinosaurs are
[01:06:56] I should have had 20 minutes with just those kids
[01:06:58] going around and seeing dinosaurs
[01:07:00] and being amazed by them
[01:07:02] and I get like some little shots
[01:07:04] and nothing that really
[01:07:06] impresses me nothing that reminds me
[01:07:08] that I love dinosaurs
[01:07:10] and that's too bad
[01:07:12] I mean like that's also not what they're trying to make either
[01:07:14] which is a shame because like Jurassic Park
[01:07:16] that was supposed to be like a thriller
[01:07:18] like a horror film like you know it's like
[01:07:20] some like deep messages to it
[01:07:22] like some deep themes to it they don't want to do that
[01:07:24] because that would take too much effort
[01:07:26] they just want to make a monster film that's going to make a lot of money
[01:07:28] which it totally did and like
[01:07:30] they achieve what they wanted to do and it's a shame that they don't want to make anything better
[01:07:32] but it's the fact that we live in a world
[01:07:34] where like Hollywood
[01:07:36] is 90% business 10% art now
[01:07:38] and so
[01:07:40] I think the shame is that in the same way that they don't want to
[01:07:42] like expend any effort
[01:07:44] in telling a better story
[01:07:46] I don't want to spend any effort in trying to love this thing
[01:07:48] like that's the problem
[01:07:50] so anyway
[01:07:52] I was
[01:07:54] very disappointed and
[01:07:56] basically was yelling in my car
[01:07:58] the whole way home from the theater because just because things would come to me
[01:08:00] and I'd be like why the fuck did you do that
[01:08:02] and like I just didn't I didn't get it
[01:08:04] and it's too bad because
[01:08:06] I didn't feel that way when the movie started
[01:08:08] so anyway
[01:08:10] that's how I feel about Jurassic World
[01:08:14] sorry
[01:08:16] Ryan what are you even watching?
[01:08:18] I apologize for how you feel
[01:08:20] movies are subjective art James
[01:08:22] you can like them or not like them it doesn't matter
[01:08:24] no I was apologizing because Jurassic World is a bad movie
[01:08:26] it's not a bad movie
[01:08:28] it's not the worst
[01:08:30] it's well made just not well intentioned
[01:08:32] it's not the worst but I told my parents to wait for the blue way
[01:08:34] okay um Jupiter sending
[01:08:36] it's not a bad movie
[01:08:38] oh yeah Jupiter sending it
[01:08:40] Jurassic World is not a bad movie
[01:08:42] did you like my movie more than
[01:08:44] Jurassic World?
[01:08:46] I actually liked the first half of your movie more than the first half of Jurassic World
[01:08:48] I really did like some of the ideas
[01:08:50] there as far as people breaking in
[01:08:52] and that kind of stuff
[01:08:54] it's like you said in your article
[01:08:56] it's like you said in your article at least it was not the same plot
[01:08:58] it wasn't just
[01:09:00] hey here we're in the park
[01:09:02] and I was fine with that part of it
[01:09:04] but other two movies are different
[01:09:06] you know this was them revisiting that original idea
[01:09:08] um
[01:09:10] and putting a twist on it
[01:09:12] it's just that the main problem
[01:09:14] is that they spend a lot of time in Jurassic Park
[01:09:16] setting up characters that I like
[01:09:18] and they don't, it's not because they spend
[01:09:20] a whole lot of time on it it's details
[01:09:22] it's little tweaks it's you know
[01:09:24] it's a scene on a helicopter
[01:09:26] where they have some witty dialogue with each other
[01:09:28] that's all I need and I need it to feel real
[01:09:30] um and that's what I don't think
[01:09:32] so James doesn't like the movie because they didn't make it
[01:09:34] for him is what he's saying
[01:09:36] yep
[01:09:38] I don't have to apologize for that
[01:09:40] you don't have to I told you
[01:09:42] movies are subjective are you doing like it or not
[01:09:44] I want a movie with characters that I like
[01:09:46] you could be wrong about it but you know
[01:09:48] but I'm not, I'm not wrong
[01:09:50] would you watch this with Gran?
[01:09:52] I watched a few things, I watched
[01:09:54] have you guys seen Whiteout?
[01:09:56] oh yeah, the Kate Beckinsale movie
[01:09:58] yeah the one where she gets caught
[01:10:00] in the snow and there's like a cable
[01:10:02] she's a murderer, yeah she's a US Marshal
[01:10:04] and Artica and there's a murder
[01:10:06] and she investigates it
[01:10:08] it's an awesome idea for a movie
[01:10:10] it's a really cool graphic novel
[01:10:12] the graphic novel is wonderful
[01:10:14] the movie is okay
[01:10:16] I think it actually suffers from
[01:10:18] not good directing unlike Jurassic World
[01:10:22] where
[01:10:24] my biggest problem when you make
[01:10:26] because in essence this is like
[01:10:28] a Mdrama slasher movie
[01:10:30] and one of my biggest pet peeves is
[01:10:32] when people constantly use slow motion
[01:10:34] when they show killers and stuff
[01:10:36] the director uses it a lot in it
[01:10:38] that doesn't build tension for me
[01:10:40] there's some great scenes where
[01:10:42] Kate Beckinsale is trying to escape from the killer
[01:10:44] and she's in Antarctica and the wind is blowing
[01:10:46] and it's a blizzard, you can't see the killer
[01:10:48] and she's connected to like rope
[01:10:50] because that's how they get from station to station
[01:10:52] because they can't see and the killer is on her
[01:10:54] and she doesn't have her gloves on
[01:10:56] and she's like frostbite and rips her skin off her hand
[01:10:58] and that stuff's awesome
[01:11:00] and then the rest of it is
[01:11:02] ho hum little better than
[01:11:04] CSI
[01:11:06] it's got Kate Beckinsale in it
[01:11:08] and she's nude at the beginning
[01:11:10] I don't understand the scene at the beginning
[01:11:12] she literally walks in and takes a shower
[01:11:14] oh yeah, no it's simply a
[01:11:16] hey we need Kate Beckinsale to take clothes off
[01:11:18] but they do that too where the steam is covering
[01:11:20] all the naughty bits so it's really obnoxious
[01:11:22] so you can put it in the trailer
[01:11:24] but no one else can
[01:11:26] yeah exactly, she probably has pasties on
[01:11:28] it's just a cock tease
[01:11:30] so
[01:11:32] it's a comic book movie
[01:11:34] it's not the worst one
[01:11:36] it's so close to being good
[01:11:38] but it's just an average movie
[01:11:40] because again I think it suffers
[01:11:42] from a director who doesn't know how to build tension
[01:11:44] except in a couple scenes
[01:11:46] it's such a cool idea
[01:11:48] that it's one of those that if they had really taken it
[01:11:50] from that point of view of being like a mystery
[01:11:52] of like really making it a mystery film
[01:11:56] it would be like
[01:11:58] it would be one of the best mystery movies
[01:12:00] it's such a cool idea
[01:12:02] and there's great scenes with Kate Beckinsale and Tom
[01:12:04] Scarrett just talking
[01:12:06] and she's you know
[01:12:08] there's just great moments there
[01:12:10] and it's just kind of lost
[01:12:12] it could have been like the thing only without a thing
[01:12:14] yeah exactly
[01:12:16] I do like the special features because
[01:12:18] Robert Downey Jr's wife produced the movie and she's in them
[01:12:20] and she's a really nice lady
[01:12:22] but
[01:12:24] but yeah it's an okay movie
[01:12:26] it's nothing special
[01:12:28] but I mean it's not a horrible movie
[01:12:30] I got it for $2.99
[01:12:32] it looks nice on Blu-ray
[01:12:34] I also watched Sleepaway Camp 3
[01:12:36] after I watched Sleepaway Camp 2 last week
[01:12:38] it's not quite as good as Sleepaway Camp 2
[01:12:42] but it's still if you like
[01:12:44] people getting butchered
[01:12:46] and an 80s slasher film
[01:12:48] it serves its purpose
[01:12:50] I don't
[01:12:52] and doesn't have our buddy Jonathan in it
[01:12:54] so it doesn't matter
[01:12:56] so yeah it was fun it's a Scream Factory Collector's edition
[01:12:58] so again they produce like an hour long
[01:13:00] documentary about it
[01:13:02] that part's really fascinating
[01:13:04] I watched
[01:13:06] 51st States with Adam Sandler
[01:13:08] and Drew Barrymore
[01:13:10] I've been watching an Adam Sandler movie
[01:13:12] lately I don't know why
[01:13:14] and it's cute I forgot how cute the movie is
[01:13:16] they do have really good chemistry together
[01:13:18] those two
[01:13:20] the plot's really silly
[01:13:22] but I mean it's great
[01:13:24] I don't know how you can go to sleep and just forget instantly
[01:13:26] I don't either
[01:13:28] but there's some really cute moments in it
[01:13:30] where she's starting to remember who Adam Sandler is
[01:13:32] and I really enjoyed it
[01:13:34] it's one of those movies where the premise is really fun
[01:13:36] and then every now and then you realize
[01:13:38] how twisted some of the shit that happens
[01:13:40] in that movie are and you're like
[01:13:42] especially at the end when she comes out of the boat
[01:13:44] like a four year old daughter or son
[01:13:46] or whatever and you're like holy shit
[01:13:48] what was it like when she was pregnant
[01:13:50] and she'd wake up
[01:13:52] and be like oh god
[01:13:54] oh god where am I
[01:13:56] yeah
[01:13:58] and the last thing I watched was actually the most fun
[01:14:00] thing I watched this week
[01:14:02] which is Flash Gordon
[01:14:04] which I have never seen before
[01:14:06] and I know
[01:14:08] because of the Queen's song
[01:14:10] about I know things of it
[01:14:12] you know
[01:14:14] and the opening credits are so amazing
[01:14:16] because that song is going over
[01:14:18] and it's like flipping through the comic book
[01:14:20] and it's showing you like being the destroyer
[01:14:22] and all the alien races
[01:14:24] and it's cheesy but it's still
[01:14:26] a really cool movie
[01:14:28] I don't know how to describe it
[01:14:30] it's like a Ray Harryhausen movie
[01:14:32] where it's really cheesy
[01:14:34] but you kind of love it
[01:14:36] I mean there's just, have you seen it?
[01:14:38] no
[01:14:40] episodes of the
[01:14:42] part of it I think
[01:14:44] there was a show at some point anyway
[01:14:46] I mean there's parts where
[01:14:48] so it opens with
[01:14:50] being the destroyer
[01:14:52] who's played by Christopher Plummer
[01:14:54] he's targeting Earth
[01:14:56] with earthquakes and volcano eruptions
[01:14:58] from his space station I guess
[01:15:00] which one of those is like Barbara Rillett's
[01:15:02] it's not supposed to make sense
[01:15:04] so he's hitting all this stuff
[01:15:06] and Flash Gordon is
[01:15:08] a cool football player
[01:15:10] for the New York Jets
[01:15:12] or giants
[01:15:14] and so he's about to fly
[01:15:16] I forget what he was going away for
[01:15:18] but he's about to fly
[01:15:20] with a reporter and she's afraid of flying
[01:15:22] and as they're flying
[01:15:24] mean the destroyer makes
[01:15:26] hot hail
[01:15:28] so it's like lava rocks falling from the sky
[01:15:30] and
[01:15:32] so they're flying
[01:15:34] and
[01:15:36] they start turbulence start
[01:15:38] and Flash Gordon comes up front and he says
[01:15:40] hey guys we doing okay here
[01:15:42] and the pilot say yeah just like turbulence
[01:15:44] hey Flash do you mind signing this
[01:15:46] time magazine for my son
[01:15:48] sure I'd love to
[01:15:50] and so he goes in the back and he's about to sign it
[01:15:52] and his this reporter
[01:15:54] lady is really cute
[01:15:56] and she says oh man
[01:15:58] I'm so nervous and he says don't worry
[01:16:00] I've I started taking flying lessons
[01:16:02] and it's nothing to be worried about
[01:16:04] happens to be able to
[01:16:06] this is important to the plot though
[01:16:08] he mentions that he's taking flying lessons
[01:16:10] and then before you know it the pilots are sucked
[01:16:12] out of the windshield and so Flash
[01:16:14] Gordon has to fly the plane
[01:16:16] so they're stuck out the window but Flash Gordon can handle
[01:16:18] not being sucked out
[01:16:20] exactly and so he crashes into
[01:16:22] this scientist research lab
[01:16:24] where he's predicted that
[01:16:26] people from the moon would attack
[01:16:28] earth and make it or they blow up them
[01:16:30] I don't remember something like that
[01:16:32] no the scientist guy so
[01:16:34] when Flash crashes
[01:16:36] he can also predict the future
[01:16:38] so when Flash crashes into the
[01:16:40] science lab conveniently
[01:16:42] with a guy who has a rocket that can go to the moon
[01:16:44] to stop the evil people from killing earth
[01:16:46] so
[01:16:48] he goes in there and the one guy
[01:16:50] scientist leaves because he says the other scientist is crazy
[01:16:52] but I need someone to push the big red button
[01:16:54] in my rocket
[01:16:56] but then Flash and the reporter lady
[01:16:58] show up so he courses
[01:17:00] into the rocket
[01:17:02] that he says the phone's in and when he get in there
[01:17:04] he pulls out a gun
[01:17:06] and he says I don't need you Flash
[01:17:08] you can leave and then Flash says ok see you later
[01:17:10] I'm like whoa he's just leaving the chick here
[01:17:12] but sorry guys he's the hero
[01:17:14] he comes back and he punches
[01:17:16] the guy so hard that his head hits the red button
[01:17:18] and it takes off
[01:17:20] convenient so he
[01:17:22] didn't do anything except punch the guy so hard
[01:17:24] anyways so then it goes on to this moon
[01:17:26] and Timothy Dahlins in it and they have this
[01:17:28] huge fight on this
[01:17:30] like
[01:17:32] if you seen Karate Kid part 2
[01:17:34] or it's 3 when he's in the middle of the
[01:17:36] arena and he's fighting the guys
[01:17:38] and there's spikes and everything on the other side
[01:17:40] and water
[01:17:42] that's 2 so it's like that
[01:17:44] but it's being controlled by these barbarian guys
[01:17:46] so they're having spikes come up
[01:17:48] and the platform is moving up and down
[01:17:50] and he's fighting Timothy Dahlins
[01:17:52] and yeah so it's really fun
[01:17:54] and my favorite scene is when he meets Ming the destroyer
[01:17:56] for the first time and he says
[01:17:58] well who are you and he says I'm Flash
[01:18:00] Gordon starting quarterback
[01:18:02] New York Jets and
[01:18:04] and then he starts getting
[01:18:06] his ass kicked by all the guards
[01:18:08] and then some guy throws
[01:18:10] flash like this
[01:18:12] green egg and it's shaped like a football
[01:18:14] of course and all of a sudden he goes
[01:18:16] oh I got this now
[01:18:18] he's like blue boy dude blue boy
[01:18:20] he's throwing the green thing hitting him in the head
[01:18:22] like stiff farming him tackling him
[01:18:24] like football so you can't stop him
[01:18:26] the movie's ridiculous but it's really fun
[01:18:28] you heard that
[01:18:30] Matthew Vaughn has signed on to make a remake of it
[01:18:32] really sweet I love Matthew Vaughn
[01:18:34] cause that was before they announced they're going to do Kingsman 2
[01:18:36] so I don't know what he's planning on doing now but I just know
[01:18:38] that he does want to make a flash Gordon remake
[01:18:40] so yeah I would recommend Flash Gordon if you like
[01:18:42] cheesy 80s movies because
[01:18:44] I do it's really cheesy but it's fun
[01:18:46] it's in a fun way
[01:18:48] yeah so I'd recommend it
[01:18:50] and the special effects look pretty cool for
[01:18:52] 1980s movie
[01:18:54] like all the backgrounds kind of look like you're inside a lava lamp
[01:18:56] and there's lizard people
[01:19:00] there's in Q from the 80s
[01:19:02] I just thought it had like a
[01:19:04] screen factor a couple of like I think about a year ago now
[01:19:06] really? yeah it was like from the 80s
[01:19:08] it's those ridiculous horror films I've
[01:19:10] ever seen it takes place in Manhattan
[01:19:12] and there's a dragon
[01:19:14] that just flies around Manhattan
[01:19:16] and there's these two cops they're investigating these murders
[01:19:18] they're like what could it be
[01:19:20] like this guy got to cap it while cleaning windows
[01:19:22] probably not the dragon
[01:19:24] I mean the dragon's here with pro let's be real
[01:19:26] it's not the dragon
[01:19:28] you just sold me on this movie a dragon that
[01:19:30] flies around and decapitates people
[01:19:32] it's an episode of CSI there's a dragon in the background
[01:19:34] that makes CSI more exciting
[01:19:36] the only part I didn't like about the
[01:19:38] Flash Gordon Blu-ray is it has art
[01:19:40] by Alex Ross on it
[01:19:42] and then they talk about
[01:19:44] then Alex Ross has an interview on there
[01:19:46] where he talks about how he loves Flash Gordon
[01:19:48] and how great his art is
[01:19:50] I love Flash Gordon
[01:19:52] have you seen my art
[01:19:54] look at it
[01:19:56] I like Alex Ross in the early 90s
[01:19:58] when he was doing cool stuff
[01:20:00] and now he's just blah
[01:20:02] that's what I watched this week
[01:20:04] Flash
[01:20:06] ah he's a master of the universe
[01:20:10] please don't sue me queen
[01:20:12] what are we doing next?
[01:20:14] I don't care news
[01:20:16] it's
[01:20:18] real news
[01:20:24] first news of the day who farted
[01:20:26] no
[01:20:28] um
[01:20:30] well what do you
[01:20:32] let's start with some happy stuff huh
[01:20:34] Spider-Man got cast this week
[01:20:36] tell me about Tom Holland
[01:20:38] Tom Holland is a British actor
[01:20:40] who was amazing in The Impossible
[01:20:42] and I mentioned earlier he made me cry
[01:20:44] because he's calling out for his little brother
[01:20:46] he's like Lucas
[01:20:48] and then his little brother sees him
[01:20:50] and they run and hug and it's really cute
[01:20:52] he's one of the better actors of the six
[01:20:54] that they said
[01:20:56] better than fucking Nate Wolf
[01:20:58] I had a lot of fun reading the article
[01:21:00] because he did so well
[01:21:02] that they brought in Robert Downey Jr
[01:21:04] to screen test with him
[01:21:06] I don't see how well their chemistry is
[01:21:08] and it worked out so well
[01:21:10] that they immediately flew him to be on the set
[01:21:12] of Civil War
[01:21:14] dude that's cool
[01:21:16] so he tested with
[01:21:18] Robert Downey Jr
[01:21:20] and then for a second screen test
[01:21:22] they brought in Chris Evans
[01:21:24] and then they said okay cool you're going to Atlanta to be on
[01:21:26] the set for Captain America Civil War
[01:21:28] yeah so yeah that's awesome
[01:21:30] that's pretty cool
[01:21:32] it makes me really excited because I love Spider-Man
[01:21:34] anytime
[01:21:36] anytime he's in the news it makes me excited
[01:21:38] that's fascinating that I just thought was interesting
[01:21:40] he's older than I am
[01:21:42] is he really?
[01:21:44] yeah because I'm 18 he's 2 months older than I am
[01:21:46] man we're like very different
[01:21:48] like body and voice wise
[01:21:50] we're very different people
[01:21:52] yeah he's uh
[01:21:54] but he still looks really young
[01:21:56] besides Asa Butterfield
[01:21:58] he looks the youngest of the six
[01:22:00] they want to do a couple movies
[01:22:02] where he's in high school
[01:22:04] and I'm guessing the first movie
[01:22:06] and they hired this really unusual director
[01:22:08] to direct it
[01:22:10] what's his name?
[01:22:12] Spider-Man movie?
[01:22:14] John Watts
[01:22:16] and I didn't know anything about him
[01:22:18] and then I heard one of the reasons is
[01:22:20] his new movie called Copcar is coming out
[01:22:22] and Kevin Feige like loved it
[01:22:24] and so I said oh man I'm going to watch a trailer for it
[01:22:26] I had no idea what it was
[01:22:28] and it's about two kids who steal a cop car
[01:22:30] and Kevin Bacon is a corrupt sheriff
[01:22:32] and he's chasing them down because he stole this cop car that has something in it
[01:22:34] so I'm like that sounds pretty cool
[01:22:36] but you're not revealing what's in it
[01:22:38] or like do you
[01:22:40] I don't know if she knows
[01:22:42] no I do
[01:22:44] but I'm playing it cool
[01:22:46] but like uh
[01:22:48] in the trailer it's a little spoilery
[01:22:50] yeah because I was like I'm not sure if it's supposed to be a spoiler in the film
[01:22:52] so I didn't want to say it straight out
[01:22:54] but check out the trailer
[01:22:56] because one Kevin Bacon is sporting
[01:22:58] like a wicked mustache in it
[01:23:00] and I love like evil Kevin Bacon
[01:23:02] and so the movie looks really fascinating
[01:23:04] onion sports dome
[01:23:06] he made a short
[01:23:08] called clown that Eli
[01:23:10] it was like a parody and it said it was made by
[01:23:12] Eli Roth and Eli Roth really liked it
[01:23:14] so Eli Roth produced
[01:23:16] a feature length of it that he didn't direct
[01:23:18] about a man who puts on
[01:23:20] a clown costume for his kids
[01:23:22] birthday but he can't take it off
[01:23:24] when he takes it off it like grows back on him
[01:23:26] so there's an actual
[01:23:28] horror film I haven't seen it and I when I looked up on Amazon
[01:23:30] like DVD is like
[01:23:32] $28
[01:23:34] so I kind of want to check it out
[01:23:36] so he's a really interesting director
[01:23:38] but they really want it to be funny
[01:23:40] so I'm excited because
[01:23:42] I love my Spider-Man movies but I would love to see a happy
[01:23:44] Spider-Man movie
[01:23:46] because I mean like I really
[01:23:48] I actually liked the movie
[01:23:50] more than a lot of people did
[01:23:52] I know you like that was like your number one
[01:23:54] film from last year right?
[01:23:56] I liked him a lot more than a lot of people liked him
[01:23:58] but I will say they had like very like
[01:24:00] slow moving tones
[01:24:02] so I'm hoping that this one's going to be quick
[01:24:04] it's going to be fun I would love to see
[01:24:06] like a goofy villain like the Shocker be the villain
[01:24:08] in it or maybe
[01:24:10] like the Legion of Losers where it's the Shocker
[01:24:12] the kangaroo and stuff and Spidey has to fight him
[01:24:14] the kangaroo
[01:24:16] right
[01:24:18] so yeah I think it's really exciting
[01:24:20] news that
[01:24:22] my favorite thing I read about it
[01:24:24] was Kevin Feige was talking about it
[01:24:26] because there's a great interview with
[01:24:28] him and Paul Rudd on Hollywood
[01:24:30] Reporter and he talks about
[01:24:32] you know why Edgar Wright left and all that
[01:24:34] stuff and
[01:24:36] but he also says
[01:24:38] that we're producing it Sony's
[01:24:40] distributing it
[01:24:42] so to me that sounds like Sony's
[01:24:44] not doing it yeah there's a Marvel's going to
[01:24:46] he's going to make money yeah so
[01:24:48] he's going to make money Marvel's going to make the movie because they care
[01:24:50] about Spider-Man so much yeah and they should
[01:24:52] he's you know they're fighting a character
[01:24:54] I mean like it's a win-win too it's not like they're going to be like
[01:24:56] oh we're not making the money off Spider-Man
[01:24:58] I mean Spider-Man he's going to be in other
[01:25:00] like Marvel movies which they're going to be making money
[01:25:02] exactly and part of the deal is in the interview
[01:25:04] I read I didn't know this is that the Marvel heroes
[01:25:06] can show up in Spider-Man
[01:25:08] so who knows what's going to happen
[01:25:10] it's good he's such a big part of the Marvel universe
[01:25:12] and it's really just going back to
[01:25:14] before Marvel was their own studios
[01:25:16] because remember they is Fox, Paramount
[01:25:18] and Sony released all the Marvel movies
[01:25:20] so I'm excited
[01:25:22] yeah go Spidey
[01:25:24] alright well we'll swing hard to the other side
[01:25:26] you're going to do that right away
[01:25:28] yeah
[01:25:30] James Horner died this week
[01:25:32] in a plane crash
[01:25:34] no Harrison Ford
[01:25:36] oh man
[01:25:38] yeah which is of course
[01:25:40] a shame I spent some time
[01:25:42] he scored the amazing Spider-Man
[01:25:44] he did
[01:25:46] Apollo 13 and like
[01:25:48] dude I even went back and listened to some
[01:25:50] Titanic because you know what
[01:25:52] that fucking score is good
[01:25:54] you won an Oscar for it
[01:25:56] interview this week there was a whole round
[01:25:58] on James Horner scores
[01:26:00] so you had to listen and figure out what movie
[01:26:02] was playing right
[01:26:04] and so I started writing down Glory
[01:26:06] and Titanic
[01:26:08] and then the next two came up
[01:26:10] and it was actually Glory
[01:26:12] and Titanic so the two that I had already
[01:26:14] written down were
[01:26:16] I think Clear and Present Danger
[01:26:18] and Avatar for Titanic
[01:26:20] and the Avatar score is almost identical
[01:26:22] to the Titanic score
[01:26:24] both James Cameron movies
[01:26:26] the Avatar score is not that great
[01:26:28] but
[01:26:30] Avatar is not that great
[01:26:32] very fair
[01:26:34] he's an amazing work though
[01:26:36] especially in the 80s and 90s stuff
[01:26:38] with the exception of Avatar
[01:26:40] all the ones you just listened to
[01:26:42] he's a great action movie
[01:26:44] music guy
[01:26:46] Clear and Present Danger one is great
[01:26:48] I adore
[01:26:50] Star Trek 2 Rathakans
[01:26:52] I already mentioned it
[01:26:54] but I adore his Apollo 13 score
[01:26:56] that's what it was
[01:26:58] it was Apollo 13
[01:27:00] that I mistook
[01:27:02] for Glory
[01:27:04] then quickly realized my error
[01:27:06] he's really good
[01:27:08] it's a bummer

[01:36:38] Lucy's pretty good. I mean, I thought I mean, I don't think it's great
[01:36:40] I think it's very I liked it more than a lot of it
[01:36:42] But like it goes out like 10% around tomatoes. I mean around 20
[01:36:47] That's worse than Aloha and low did you guys see a loa? No, that's one of the worst movies I've seen this year
[01:36:53] I've seen 54 films released in 2015 like it's like in the top ten bottom. So wow
[01:37:00] Cameron Crowe I know and I like I really want to like it but like okay as spoilers are you don't see this
[01:37:06] Aloha fuck it. Um, I'm gonna see it
[01:37:08] They're like the moment the moment that supposed to be like the re-likes me like Bradley Cooper's a great guy now
[01:37:14] It happens. I'm like Bradley Cooper. You're a dick
[01:37:17] What happens is he blows up a satellite?
[01:37:21] And I'm like, okay, so that's millions of dollars down the drain
[01:37:26] So you could get an MS. Don't pants like did you say worth it? Oh, huh when he does it
[01:37:36] But yeah, it's it's the one of the worst he's like the low hot bitches hi. Goodbye
[01:37:43] Because Aloha means hi and goodbye, okay, I don't know if I'd explain the joke to anybody. No
[01:37:49] No, you didn't it's funny or not that you explained it though good. Yeah, no, it's not
[01:37:55] Alright, that's news. Oh what comic book do you have for us this week, sir?
[01:38:00] Sup nerds it's the comics quarter
[01:38:02] Well, do I need to pause no, okay, um, I stuck it in
[01:38:11] Unlike I don't like whenever I like listen to like the show and whenever you recommend a thing
[01:38:15] It's always like an older comic that like I forgot find
[01:38:19] This one I want to make it kind of like a newer one because it's one that's currently running
[01:38:22] And I feel like it serves more love. It's uh, it's ghost racers
[01:38:28] Have you guys seen this? Hmm?
[01:38:29] It's uh, it's the continuation of all new ghost writer, which have you guys read all new ghost writer?
[01:38:35] No, you should definitely pick it up. It was one of my favorite Marvel now series. Oh, it's good
[01:38:39] It's really good
[01:38:40] I think the art cell turned a lot of people off on it really because I thought so was the best part in my opinion
[01:38:44] Well ghost writer looks a little goofy in it
[01:38:46] He looks goofy but like it fits cuz like it kind of fits to the tone
[01:38:49] Yeah, cuz it's like so basically all new ghost rights a new ghost writer named Robbie Reyes
[01:38:54] Who's a instead of a motorcycle?
[01:38:56] He has like a muscle car messes goes right
[01:39:01] Already cooler and like in like part of is that like he gets spirit of vengeance and spirit of vengeance is kind of evil
[01:39:08] It's another person's arm working a lot
[01:39:11] And so he has to deal with that kind of thing meanwhile
[01:39:13] He's raising his brother by himself who's like paralyzed
[01:39:17] And so I said deal with like that kind of issue
[01:39:19] It was like 12 episode 12 12 issue kind of thing
[01:39:22] Don't pick it up at least the first five issues because then the artist leaves the kid a new artist in some kind of style
[01:39:27] But the first five is by Trabmore. He's one of my favorite artists, but you should only check that out and then ghost racers
[01:39:33] It is so much fun. It's the most fun of having to comic in a long time
[01:39:36] Sweet. It's all of the ghost
[01:39:39] It's like extra after a secret wars happens and the whole like combining the universe happens
[01:39:43] And so doom has this arena as like NASCAR
[01:39:47] That's all of the ghost fires like racing each other and whoever wins is not tortured
[01:39:52] It's so it's like it's like death race only with ghost riders. It's wacky races meets the style of Mad Max
[01:40:00] So, alright, I'm on and so and like but you I feel like you need to read all new ghost writer first
[01:40:05] Because the main character of ghost racers is Robbie Reyes
[01:40:07] And he's also we got the guy you kind of root for he's like the popular one
[01:40:10] But like if you're a ghost writer fan
[01:40:12] You will definitely like it just because like they throw like the only ghost writer that's not been in it yet
[01:40:17] I can't raise the name right now, but like he's one that's supposed to be like take place in the future
[01:40:20] But it has like Robbie Reyes
[01:40:24] Oh god
[01:40:26] Phantom rider who's like the cowboy?
[01:40:29] Johnny Blaze. It has Danny catch and it has
[01:40:34] Alejandro Blaze and so it says like those five also racing
[01:40:37] They all have their different styles of like battling each other on the field and just like an entire issue of just like wacky races meets Mad Max
[01:40:43] It is so much fun
[01:40:46] I don't hear anyone talking about them and I feel like it's it deserves to be talked about so very very cool
[01:40:52] Yeah, I love it a ghost writer book
[01:40:55] That's neat. Yeah, let's check that out. I bet you can get it at Colorado Quince Grads and Collins
[01:41:00] Yep talk to Andrew Andrew will be on the show July 17th for Ant-Man very cool
[01:41:07] I keep on bugging him every week. I'm like you're coming on dude
[01:41:09] Don't fucking cheat out on us now. Well, you've been promoting it for like three weeks
[01:41:13] Yeah, I know I so like now he has to or else there's gonna be backlash
[01:41:16] So next time you tweet us make sure you mention that Andrew is gonna be on the show because I don't worry. I will I told him
[01:41:20] I said dude, I'm telling everybody. Don't you fucking let the fans down?
[01:41:23] He says oh, yeah, just I'm gonna watch so many DC movies that week and I'm just gonna fucking trash them
[01:41:30] There's a little preview of Andrew being on the show
[01:41:34] That's exciting. Yeah awesome great. I've heard good things about it
[01:41:38] I haven't picked it up yet. I have so many deli's check it out
[01:41:41] If like really at least three the first five issues of ghost all new ghost writer
[01:41:44] And then you can and then like that because the first five is just interesting
[01:41:47] Is second half is like when the evil cycle starts taking over and then Johnny Blaze comes in and starts like you know
[01:41:52] You need to watch yourself they get like a huge fight
[01:41:55] Like that's like a three issue fight sweet and then that kind transitions into the whole like battle race very cool
[01:42:03] These are the box office projections for this week
[01:42:09] This is the box office
[01:42:13] Did you want to say something Brad?
[01:42:16] Nope, oh you picked up the microphone and looked at me like I'm gonna say something
[01:42:20] Well, it's when I was listening to last week's show. I was like do we need to re-record the nerd thing because
[01:42:25] He says like the box office stats, but now that the box office projections
[01:42:29] Cuz I'm also gonna do the box office stats. So, you know
[01:42:34] So I was also thinking
[01:42:37] Should we make this like a pool like we should all predict
[01:42:41] Yeah, I think I was close as like I thought those was gonna be like we each say what we think are gonna be like the top five or whatever
[01:42:47] So it's a reveal. I suck at that don't want to do like prices right with it
[01:42:51] Whoever's or can just be like who like who what's gonna be number one and what you think it's me the number wise
[01:42:55] So yeah, whoever's closest gets
[01:42:59] Right has to pay for next week's movie. Yeah, fuck no that's like $40
[01:43:06] So last week Jurassic World number one with a hundred and six million dollars the second highest grossing movie
[01:43:12] I mean, that's the biggest second weekend in movie history really on
[01:43:17] But the biggest news actually is inside out gross 90 million
[01:43:21] Yeah, which is the highest original Pixar movie ever and it's also the first Pixar movie. That's never opened number one
[01:43:27] Jurassic World is that American hustle of dinosaur movie? No, I'm just kidding
[01:43:32] David O'Resse
[01:43:35] Dope actually outperformed at 6.1 million they're pegging up for I think four to five. Yeah, cool. Um, yeah
[01:43:42] So that's I mean for a little movie like that. I mean, I'm sure yeah
[01:43:46] They probably who it costs? I think eight million to make yeah, and so like they're definitely gonna make their money back
[01:43:52] That wise I think like they said like like advertising when I was like 20 million
[01:43:56] No, but I think they'll definitely make that back eventually
[01:43:58] Oh, I'm sure they will and it's getting so many good reviews that I think yeah, it'll be one of those movies
[01:44:02] It has really long legs. Yeah
[01:44:05] You don't check out that yeah, so yeah inside out way overperformed originally there
[01:44:12] Predicting is gonna do like 74 million. So the box office is doing really well right now because
[01:44:18] Usually they're pretty spot-on on their projections now
[01:44:21] But the last couple weeks they've been off by like 10 15 million dollars because the Sundays have been
[01:44:27] performing a lot better
[01:44:30] Than traditionally
[01:44:31] So right now as it stands there's
[01:44:37] What do we want to make predictions or are we just grabbing that do you want to make predictions?
[01:44:41] It's not my show so I probably shouldn't find
[01:44:45] So I think be fun. Yeah, so we have one well two new movies Ted 2 is the big one
[01:44:51] Okay, so Yuri knows some of the well, yeah
[01:44:54] I'm like oh, so we should all know that and then make the prediction
[01:44:57] I know I'm gonna tell you so I'll tell you where do me tell you where they're projected to go
[01:45:01] And then you guys can tell me what you think they're gonna end up exact number. Yeah, cool
[01:45:05] So we have
[01:45:07] Ted to
[01:45:08] Right now is on its way to gross
[01:45:13] Just below
[01:45:15] 50 million so they're projecting it from like 40 to 47 million
[01:45:20] But they don't think it's gonna be enough to take out Jurassic World or inside out
[01:45:24] It's a great our movie. Yeah, I think that right now
[01:45:28] I think they're saying inside out might make more in its second week than Jurassic World in this third
[01:45:34] So with that knowledge
[01:45:36] we have
[01:45:38] so you're gonna have to predict above
[01:45:41] The Ted 2 at 45 million basically so I actually I think Ted 2 is I think it's gonna hit 48 million
[01:45:48] Around 48 I'm gonna say 48 point 1 million. That's my prediction 48 point 1
[01:45:53] Okay, you guys were not prices right me and say 40
[01:45:57] 019 I think it'll make a dollar
[01:46:01] So only doing the one movie sure not the other two. Okay. Yeah, that makes sense
[01:46:08] Joe me tell you how much it made they're projecting it to make today
[01:46:11] Because it made like 13 million last night in it. It may be two million last night and they're saying high teens today. All right
[01:46:19] I
[01:46:25] Go with
[01:46:28] I'll go at 35 35 million
[01:46:31] 52 52 yeah, I'm gonna say because of a million days of a million ways to die in the West
[01:46:38] South McFarlane's yeah, I'm back up
[01:46:40] So I think that the majority of family guy fans don't even know that like those two movies are linked in any way
[01:46:46] I think most of them saw Ted and we're like oh yeah Ted. So I yeah, I think it's going to be the Riffin Bear really well
[01:46:54] I'm gonna do 40 40 so we got 40 35
[01:46:59] 52 48 point one
[01:47:02] All right, well, we'll revisit next week. I'll tweet out the actual numbers tomorrow
[01:47:07] Yeah, well they'll have the predicted numbers. It'll be pretty close. Yeah
[01:47:12] Cool, I'm waiting for actuals bitch cool. So month and Monday morning Monday morning. I'll tweet out the actuals a
[01:47:18] Monday morning we all lose when max gets 100 million
[01:47:22] Oh, I've got to tell you when I was at a
[01:47:25] Seeing Jurassic Park or World 3d. I got there and there's like two long lines at the stairs
[01:47:31] It's like shit. I can't I
[01:47:33] Was gonna suck and then I saw people like carrying around 8 half by 11 sheets paper
[01:47:38] And I was like what's what's these lines for they said, huh?
[01:47:42] Special screening so it's a screen you have max. Yeah, and then that line became like five lines
[01:47:47] So there's like five lines of people for this hero dog movie that I had never really even heard of until
[01:47:54] Here's like well came on the movie doesn't make any money off that. I guess all free tickets
[01:47:59] Yeah, so like that's not gonna like just sell like five lines
[01:48:01] That's not gonna mean well they would what they want people to do is like I loved max
[01:48:05] Yeah, and then they'll start if you see when they start putting people's Twitter responses like as reviews
[01:48:11] Really? Yeah, it's like that's the best you could get
[01:48:15] Like people coming out on Monday night for that movie. It's like
[01:48:18] Yeah, there's way more interest in that movie than I thought there would be they're saying it's gonna be fair
[01:48:22] Like because I go to like advanced screens whenever I can
[01:48:25] It's always people that only go see those movies because they're free. It's not people that actually want to see the movies
[01:48:30] It's just like hey
[01:48:35] Yeah, the same reason why I saw here comes the boom a year in advance
[01:48:43] James
[01:48:47] Religion above Paul Blark. Yeah movies still turn like
[01:48:51] Oh, yeah
[01:48:52] No, yeah, I emailed happy Madison saying hey, I was scripted for Paul Blark three space cop
[01:48:59] By me for five dollars. Just give me Ryos credit. I haven't heard back yet
[01:49:02] Well, the funny thing is I because I've been watching Adam Sandler movies
[01:49:06] I went back and I looked at his box office performance is he's really consistent
[01:49:10] I mean his movies make like 150 million dollars almost consistently the one movie. I I saw I was like, you know that Jack and Jill
[01:49:18] Look so stupid as the only Adam Sandler movie. I haven't seen saw in theaters. Did you?
[01:49:23] Ironically and I said man, I don't know if I want to see I'm like was that movie even popular
[01:49:28] 147 million dollars. You know that huge opening weekend
[01:49:31] I remember yeah, I cannot believe it. I was like that's not supposed to rain over me made like 10 million dollars its whole run. I
[01:49:39] Know um anyways, this is what's coming out on Blu-ray next week. Oh, I got one coming
[01:49:48] Is the one you have coming Sean Penn's the gunman on Blu-ray oh, yeah, cuz you're such a big Sean Penn fan
[01:49:54] Yeah, you and me man
[01:49:56] I was reading blu-ray.com's review of that it comes with no special features really yeah, none
[01:50:01] Did they just not film a special feature? They're like it's gonna be shitty. They're just not even special about it
[01:50:07] You know what special feature I would like I'd like a cut of the film without Sean Penn in it
[01:50:12] So get hard is the big blu-ray release of this week. Are you is that the one you're getting? No, okay?
[01:50:17] His last night starring Morgan Freeman and Clive Owen
[01:50:21] Which I think is actually a night's movie. No, that's kind of I'm slightly can I it's yeah like tonight's movie last night
[01:50:29] Yeah, like yeah like the dark can I it last tonight?
[01:50:34] While we're young which is that movie with those people being like see that
[01:50:39] It's Mark Ruffalo right no while we're young guys
[01:50:42] Begin again. Yeah, yeah begin just don't worry about
[01:50:45] While we're young is actually really funny so I think you just to see that movie and we decided not to see any movies that people
[01:50:50] Tweeted us that week. Yeah, some Maggie so yeah, we saw Maggie. God damn it. I should listen to you
[01:50:54] I think that the movie you have coming is vanilla skies Tom Cruise
[01:51:01] That's my Penelope cruise that was awesome good. That's pretty good. Well, I'm getting really excited because
[01:51:08] That well originally that move for vanilla. It's funny. I can show you on my Amazon account
[01:51:13] I literally ordered this movie 10 months ago
[01:51:16] Really? It was supposed to come out and then Cameron Crowe before it came out
[01:51:20] It's like I'm gonna put all new special features on it and I just read on blu-ray.com
[01:51:24] There's new commentary a new ending
[01:51:27] Another commentary with somebody else and then he does a commentary with the composer and she
[01:51:34] Live plays commentary music during it. Well, it sounds cool and it sounds really fascinating
[01:51:40] I haven't seen this movie since I saw in theaters, so I'm interested to see it again
[01:51:43] It's funny that like I was so sad about us talking about Aloha and then I made fun of it vanilla skies
[01:51:49] So clearly Cameron Crowe is kind of hit and miss
[01:51:51] I've liked almost all of Cameron Crowe except Aloha which I distinctly hated
[01:52:00] I think oh there is a scream factory release this week, which is a double feature of ghost house and witchery
[01:52:05] Which are both pretty cool covers. They are but
[01:52:09] I look those up. I've never seen them and their IMDB ratings are like 4.0. Oh, yeah means it's probably not very good
[01:52:15] Okay, so ghost house
[01:52:18] There's a house right and in front of it is this ghostly figure of a girl like floating and her eyes are all wide
[01:52:24] She's like an all freaky looking and in her lap is the disembodied head of a clown with sharp teeth
[01:52:31] And she's holding a cassette tape
[01:52:34] So she's so she like hold it so the heads in the lap heads on the cassette tape just hold
[01:52:39] She's holding it like this like just what's up? You know, yeah, like just hey man. I got this cassette tape
[01:52:45] I'm a feed this cassette tape
[01:52:51] You know, that's just the sound like ghost make when they're like fucking
[01:52:55] To
[01:53:01] Yeah, I don't know what she's doing with the cassette tape
[01:53:04] You people need if you're listening to this go look up the cover to ghost house and figure out what the fuck this girl is doing
[01:53:10] With a cassette tape
[01:53:11] It's kind of like that scene in Men in Black where you just see it and you're like she's I don't know what she's doing
[01:53:15] With that cassette tape, but she's up to no good like I don't get it and then okay, so witchery
[01:53:21] He's just it's Linda Blair same thing house girl in front cleavage pouring out
[01:53:27] She's running she's in like a robe and then above it is just a big picture of some woman getting her lips sewn shut
[01:53:35] And her eyes are all whiteed out just like in ghost house, so she's probably also like
[01:53:44] Pretty cool covers so I don't know that anyone should see the movies, but whatever
[01:53:48] Cover is cool. Well, it's green factor have features on them. Yeah, I'm sure it's you feel like horror films. Yeah
[01:53:56] This week we saw Ted to
[01:53:58] And Risha people go see Ted to
[01:54:01] Okay, I'll purpose this by saying I'm not like Ted one
[01:54:04] I thought I'm the one of the very few people that thought what million ways down to which was okay
[01:54:09] I will say this film if you like their films and like stuff the car and scott humor words
[01:54:14] Just like joke joke joke joke joke and not a really like
[01:54:18] Moving story then check it out. Otherwise. I would say you can probably catch it
[01:54:22] What's on TV or something like that just to have it hear the jokes, so cool Bradley
[01:54:30] Yes, I felt like it was
[01:54:33] Like a live-action family guy cartoon I
[01:54:36] Remember liking the first movie but not enough to buy it. Yeah, and this one is I don't know
[01:54:44] I actually thought it was a little more of a
[01:54:48] Serious script, but also still funny
[01:54:52] But yeah, I had fun
[01:54:55] Yeah, I'm sort of in the same camp
[01:54:57] I think the movie is there are a lot of scenes in the movie that are hilarious and I laughed
[01:55:02] so hard at
[01:55:04] The times when it's trying to tell me a story are fucking atrocious and boring
[01:55:08] But honestly, they aren't that long and they don't come up that often
[01:55:12] So the majority of the movie is just really funny and there's some great jokes in there that are are worth seeing if you're if you're somebody who
[01:55:21] Like traditionally just hates family guy and I'm kind of like that
[01:55:26] Then maybe just wait for a blue ray
[01:55:29] But otherwise like if your friends are going to see Ted to like go see Ted do with them
[01:55:32] You'll have a good time. Yeah, I had lots of fun watching the film. I thought it was pretty funny
[01:55:35] I think what's amazing about it before we put the trailer is how much Ted feels like he's in the real world
[01:55:42] Mm-hmm. I think it's a great hands off to those
[01:55:46] visual effects guys they did a better job this time of his
[01:55:49] CGI model or whatever yeah, he felt like yeah, yeah, he felt like he had weight
[01:55:53] You know what I mean? Yeah, that makes any sense. Yeah textures more crisp
[01:55:57] I guess and his facial expressions. Yeah anyway, here's the red band trailer for Ted to
[01:56:10] Okay, you ready oh shit. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, here it comes. Okay. Okay. I'm ready. Let's all go to court
[01:56:17] Hey, you lawyer guys, you don't know me and joining you watching you while we're high
[01:56:27] That was fucking that felt smooth listen. I got some big news to tell you oh, yeah
[01:56:32] What's that Tammy Lynn and I are gonna have a baby to that's fucking awesome?
[01:56:36] Congratulations, baby. How do you guys? That's the thing we we got to find a sperm donor
[01:56:43] That we can get a lot of trouble. Can you think of someone better than him? We'll be a sweet-ass fucking baby
[01:56:50] Tom fucking Brady for Super Bowl rings guaranteed Hall of Fame now
[01:56:54] Let's give my hand job into this red plastic cup
[01:57:07] Take your teddy bear with you. Oh, oh shit a perfect spiral
[01:57:13] Hey Johnny, thanks for yanking out a sample for me. I'm the buddies for life remember
[01:57:19] What is that getting ready dude you got your hand on your dick? What are you doing?
[01:57:22] I'm trying to get it half-hunch when I get in there. I can just bust it out
[01:57:25] Sitting out here in a public jerking off where you think you are red lobster
[01:57:30] Teddy if we want to have a baby you're gonna have to prove you're a person in a court of law
[01:57:33] They said I'm property well like garbage a piece of shit and maybe more like a hammer or an orange
[01:57:38] It's just a word that I asked my ancestors one minute you in Africa
[01:57:42] You in the river washing your clothes to this just hanging this thing, you know
[01:57:45] You're getting fucked by Thomas Jefferson Wow you make history come alive
[01:57:50] Johnny what are we gonna do? We're getting a lawyer and we'll sue the fucking government for your civil rights
[01:57:56] Look it's head. Do you mind if I ask how old you are in 26?
[01:57:59] What you know, I just don't want my lawyer singing frozen songs during the open arguments
[01:58:03] We really appreciate your time, but I think what we're probably gonna do is just take a seat and get to work
[01:58:08] I'm sure you completely yeah, we really feel like you've got a lot to offer. I get migraines
[01:58:11] I'm gonna get a huge migraine in the parking lot in about 20 minutes
[01:58:16] Ted you're special
[01:58:18] But what defines a person is making the contribution to society
[01:58:25] Would you get for fucking exercise and
[01:58:29] Can I use your laptop yeah, go ahead what the fuck what's going on?
[01:58:33] There's so much porn. I've been meaning to clear some of that out
[01:58:36] Look at the organization here clockwise rim job counterclockwise rim job
[01:58:40] Sometimes you like seeing the tongue go the other way chicks with dicks. Oh my god
[01:58:45] Have a disease all right. I need help there are no chicks with dick strong the only guys with kids
[01:58:54] Yeah, so in the movie it you know that there is one inconsistency in the movie
[01:59:00] Besides a talking teddy bear in the first head remember
[01:59:03] He's like nailing Tammy Lynn in like the back so he obviously can have yeah, I thought he had a dick
[01:59:08] Yeah, but then you think about it. Maybe he just was wearing a strap on I don't know
[01:59:12] Well, maybe it's just like anyways intent to I mean the trailer is pretty much set it up
[01:59:17] He is he gets married to Tammy Lynn and they want to have a baby
[01:59:21] They can't because actually one of my favorite throwaway lines was Dennis Haysbert plays a doctor in it
[01:59:27] And they go in and he says
[01:59:31] Like you can't have babies and they show it like an x-ray. She says oh that looks pretty good. It's like, oh, yeah
[01:59:37] I'm sorry. That's not yours. This is yours and he flips it on his has all these black masses over it
[01:59:42] And this is my favorite part. She says you've seen that before right? It says no
[01:59:45] I threw up and I thought about quitting medicine
[01:59:49] And he just says it so fast and not going for a joke at all. It's just it's just really
[01:59:54] Well done. Yeah, anyway, so they then they decide they're gonna adopt and when they fill out adoption papers
[02:00:00] It's revealed that they don't view Ted as a human being or a living person
[02:00:05] And so it's his fight to prove that he is living and
[02:00:10] And it's it's really funny
[02:00:12] I think too the only weird part too is Ted one was all about getting together with Mila Kunis and then it's like
[02:00:18] Oh, she's not in this one and it's just weird because he's really sad about that divorce
[02:00:22] Yeah, because isn't Mila Kunis and Seth McFarland like really good friends and he's in she's like an all-is-one
[02:00:28] She was busy filming Jupiter ascending. Is that why?
[02:00:32] Yeah, she's doing something else so
[02:00:34] Maybe she was having a baby. You're right. She was having a baby
[02:00:38] Also, it just negates the first movie a little bit. Yeah, they went through all that trouble for nothing
[02:00:42] Yeah
[02:00:42] I get at the end of the day
[02:00:44] It doesn't really matter because it's just like any cartoon where nothing is carries over and it
[02:00:50] Doesn't matter this movie that has cutaways to Ted in like a hooker outfit giving blowjobs
[02:00:55] Yeah
[02:00:57] My wife sits there and she's laughing and I always laugh at my wife because she says she hates movies like this
[02:01:02] She hates movies like this, but she's in there telling me. She's like I like the first head
[02:01:05] I said so you like family guy. She said no, I said Ted is literally Peter Griffin. Yeah, it's the same voice
[02:01:10] It's the same voice. Yeah, same character
[02:01:12] Like it is not family guy because I don't like family guy and watch family guy
[02:01:17] I don't know the last time so you don't know the last time I was James
[02:01:20] The last time I was frustrated and watching a cartoon at the same time
[02:01:24] It's still funny, but how often is marky mark and family guy, so right there you go
[02:01:29] I know marky mark is the saving grace
[02:01:33] And marky mark is really good in it like he yes, I oh my god
[02:01:36] I love this scene when he's going when he's walking down the hallway because he's trying to get back into dating
[02:01:41] He's walking down the hallway
[02:01:42] He's hitting on the woman who is like leading him to the room where he's gonna jerk off into the cup
[02:01:46] It is so like perfectly awkward and like oh, yeah, he's really good
[02:01:52] There's no checks with decks only dudes with boobs
[02:01:58] Yeah
[02:02:00] I mean that's that's like the family guy humor though. He's like oh you gotta mash this
[02:02:06] Laptop and they match like so it's good like no people can still get it
[02:02:09] Let's go bury in the Hava and something like scuba dive to the bottom of Boston Harbor to bury it
[02:02:15] Anything's like that but those aren't even those aren't the jokes that I ended up laughing at the most the jokes
[02:02:20] I ended up laughing at the most were like the fish
[02:02:29] I love like the Jurassic Park song all the Jurassic Park have the audience didn't get it no
[02:02:34] I got right like oh distinct theme that's use it starshit. Oh, oh
[02:02:39] Yeah, yeah a lot of times the kids to my right row is like whispering like
[02:02:43] Why are they laughing I don't get it what assholes? Yeah
[02:02:47] They are assholes. They're talking much, but
[02:02:51] When you're such a nerd and you know they do the close-up of Ted at that party's like they're moving in her
[02:02:58] Just need to say it like I got the joke
[02:03:02] I think that joke was there for those people who still didn't get yeah cuz I was dying laughing like
[02:03:09] They hadn't even started the score yet
[02:03:11] But they it was just those two little beats as the sound starts to build and I watched Jurassic Park this week
[02:03:16] So it was really obvious to me and I just started dying laughing a rave sitting next to me
[02:03:21] He's just like what is happening? Why is James dying and then the score kicked in he was like
[02:03:28] But there's also like there's to me. I think the best parts of the film too are the little like throwaway jokes really fast
[02:03:34] Yeah, you know when oh my god mark Walberg's on the witness
[02:03:38] Stand and the other lawyers are like nobody been fucking like you man
[02:03:48] Or leave nice and try to bite tricks
[02:03:54] When they tell Amanda say free that she has golem eyes
[02:04:00] That rings my precious it's so bad because for a second you look at me you go holy shit
[02:04:06] But the thing she thought she looked really pretty in this movie does and I never gonna be able to look at it
[02:04:11] They're the same again. I've never really thought you I mean they always thought she was cute
[02:04:14] But for in this movie man, she's pretty attractive
[02:04:16] And they mean they riffed on the breakfast club and oh yeah, that was good a bunch of things the movie started out
[02:04:22] I was like
[02:04:23] Looking at Patrick Warburton and the other guy
[02:04:26] I'm like that guy looks so familiar with where have I seen him before and then by the time they got to
[02:04:31] Comic-Con and he's it's Michael Dorn dressed up as war if I'm like oh
[02:04:35] That's right. That's him. He's like so skinny. Yeah, well even then too like at the beginning like fuck you. Yeah, fuck me
[02:04:41] Let's go
[02:04:46] I'm gonna team up to like kick around nerds
[02:04:56] When that happens you kind of feel like a jerk
[02:04:58] Should I be laughing at this? Yeah, they're kind of brutal. Yeah, and I'll pretend I'm not looking at your dick
[02:05:04] Oh what the fuck there shit on his pants
[02:05:09] Like my whole thing about was that like I thought like when it first started I really liked it
[02:05:14] I thought like this is the best
[02:05:15] Something parlin film yet
[02:05:17] But then like once it got to the whole like you're not a person thing and it began started having like that kind of message of
[02:05:24] Like racism and like equality that was like, okay. This is not the right film
[02:05:34] It's a day where that story is actually kind of interesting important right and I'm sitting there going like
[02:05:40] Can we go back to like the fart? Can you go back to drawing peat misspelling penis?
[02:05:54] Totally totally that that would have been really good. Yeah totally. Yeah, it just totally loses itself during those moments
[02:06:00] And it gets it gets it back real fast and like yeah
[02:06:03] They usually end those little sequences with like Mark Wahlberg saying something really dumb
[02:06:08] Yeah, I'm getting a good laugh, but yeah, but like my problem is that it was this very like I
[02:06:14] Guess I just know what I wanted to be because I had like those very serious moments
[02:06:18] We would have that kind of scene then I don't have that one throwaway joke
[02:06:21] Then I'll go back to like a silly scene then it would go back to another serious scene
[02:06:24] And it was like what do you want me to feel about this like I don't I don't think that it was
[02:06:29] I don't think it genuinely wanted to be taken seriously like it
[02:06:33] Still a movie with a talking teddy there the problem is that like that is their excuse for a plot
[02:06:37] Yeah, the different but like it's hard to make it like
[02:06:42] racism or equality the excuse for a plot and
[02:06:46] Make it a joke at the same time if they wanted to like do something like this
[02:06:49] I think it would have been better who's just like because like at the end had more to be like we have to prove
[02:06:52] Like you're a good person. I think it would have been cool if like they said well
[02:06:55] You're not a person but you need you qualify yourself as a person if you do these good things
[02:06:59] And the film followed Ted and like Mark Wahlberg trying to do good things turns into like my name is a role
[02:07:06] But said has to go around like it's a courtroom drama now like so, but we also got some really good
[02:07:19] Like I said like I liked it. It was really the funniest
[02:07:23] Film that he's made so far. I laughed the most out of all of them
[02:07:26] But like my only thing is that like it is just this joke this joke this joke words like comment
[02:07:32] Is that like I like or like this is a joke that will affect this later and like that kind of thing
[02:07:36] And like each joke kind of affects the plot in a way where it's just like like it's like family guys
[02:07:40] So it's like if you like family guy, you'll probably like this kind of thing works like I still love family
[02:07:44] Yeah, like and so like in like that's like I don't like family guy
[02:07:47] And so it's not my film. So
[02:07:51] Again, is that like something you can say
[02:07:54] What was the I think was the second case
[02:07:59] Ted and
[02:08:00] Mark Wahlberg were
[02:08:02] What were they talking to each other about cuz I felt like there's a set-up for something
[02:08:05] It was gonna come later and then it didn't happen. Damn it. What was it say like erection?
[02:08:10] No, no, it's
[02:08:12] No, they reference somebody like yeah, that is only was that too is they had the second courtroom thing and it like immediately ended
[02:08:19] Yeah, I guess you don't have to see it again because I don't need to sit through another speech about equality
[02:08:24] Yeah, I mean, yeah, I mean he gave the I mean Morgan Freeman gave the speech but I know it seemed weird
[02:08:29] There's nothing about the voodoo shit or something like don't mess with that wizardry. What was he talking about? Damn it
[02:08:43] Mmm, yeah
[02:08:48] And I also want to give props to Seth Macfarlane he wrote that moon song
[02:08:54] He loves that stuff he loves big show tunes and that's why the opening
[02:08:57] I maybe some people be confused but he loves openings like that he loves Fred Astaire and oh it's definitely confusing
[02:09:03] There's I don't know why that seems there, but it's really good
[02:09:05] I mean like when I saw just like okay, so it's clear they like they're like
[02:09:09] We need to have like the opening credits at some point and like the film like each line and like even though where they were joke lines
[02:09:15] They were like kind of progressing the film and I know there's a lot more into this movie
[02:09:20] That's been edited out because I've been telling James that or maybe it's brown
[02:09:24] I remember that the the trailer shows like cars exploding in a car chase
[02:09:28] Yeah, and he also has like a song and dance number
[02:09:31] That's in the trailer that didn't make it so maybe the movies another 30 40 minutes. Yeah
[02:09:35] I was the Beetlejuice thing
[02:09:38] Come on Michael Keaton
[02:09:42] I was thinking that too, I felt like so my kids gonna be one of the celebrity cameras list
[02:09:46] Yeah, or he's gonna come back like the end of the movie or something
[02:09:49] He says you know be able just three times and the door opens. Whoa, Ron courtroom
[02:09:56] Crickets yeah
[02:09:58] Ron courtroom
[02:09:59] But Liam Neeson's cameo was amazing. Yeah, that was really like Ted one and both both Ted one and
[02:10:05] Million ways they both have a lost celebrity cameo. So it felt like it did not have nearly as many
[02:10:09] Mm-hmm, like you have like the like the three or whatever it was as Liam Neeson
[02:10:15] This is I can't remember anybody. Oh Michael Dorn Michael Dorn
[02:10:19] Sam Jones flash Gordon John Slaughter is from Mad Men
[02:10:23] Yeah, but I mean like those are like can't those are like actual characters like I mean that the well
[02:10:27] Like that guy he is always people being themselves. Yeah. Yeah, but like in the first one there were like ton of them like
[02:10:33] Yeah
[02:10:35] So no Patrick Stewart. Yes the narrator. Yeah
[02:10:39] Can we talk about how awesome the family guy porn looks? Oh geez
[02:10:44] Cuz I was like I really want just a DVD of just the non-sex sections of that do you really I
[02:10:51] That was like you want on display in your house. I think I do. Yeah, like it's just bad
[02:10:57] I
[02:10:59] Like James, you know hates family guys. So I lean versus. Yes
[02:11:02] Yeah, see it takes geniuses to write family guy because that's people who don't know how to write family guy trying no
[02:11:06] No, no, honestly that show it felt exactly like no way
[02:11:10] Except for the acting was worse. It felt like family not even close
[02:11:14] Well and that they were all grabbing their dicks during every scene
[02:11:19] Well, like I mean another thing about like that family guy like porn parody
[02:11:22] I'm not sure if you notice it like every scene was like cartooning and headset
[02:11:27] Except the sex scene with the wheelchair guy. Yeah, these an actual room for that. I was like wait a second
[02:11:33] I was just a porn set. Yeah, no, it's bad. You it's not even close if we're not going about getting to critiquing a porn
[02:11:42] No, I mean it's just it's when amateurs try to write it and you're not as funny
[02:11:47] Well, I don't think people are watching shame on shame on you with a porn industry
[02:11:52] Make a parody of a porn of sechaux at least make it good
[02:11:57] Don't be shitty. Well, that's the problem is you know, you got people that aren't funny actors like that
[02:12:02] Who's a dude who's quagmire? Yeah
[02:12:06] He's just moving his head back and forth and going giggy and even he was doing giggy, right? Yeah
[02:12:11] You you heard him porn industry Ryan wants you to not be shitty. Yeah
[02:12:16] Yeah, Ryan will direct it for you. I will start as Peter Griffin. I have a better P Griffin voice
[02:12:25] Kind of lowest was kind of hot in it
[02:12:32] Dude how bad was like the chicken fight come on. Yeah, I was like, why?
[02:12:37] You're a porn why
[02:12:40] Because there was a chicken fight in a porn
[02:12:43] That's about the actual movie itself like in the comic-con scene. There was a guy wearing a chicken suit
[02:12:47] I was like, yeah, I just have like a
[02:12:50] Peter Griffin look alike and the chicken guy fighting in the background of that brawl
[02:12:53] Oh, that would win good they didn't do it Ralph Garmin was a stormtrooper if we know one caught that
[02:12:59] Cool nice
[02:13:02] Go see Captain Kirk. I'm sorry you guys have to deal with that
[02:13:05] I
[02:13:11] Yeah, next week we're seeing Terminator Genesis. Yeah, you're not seeing minions or that's magic Mike X
[02:13:18] Minions is the following week. Oh, is it? Yeah, I think it's the 10th. I'll be not anywhere near
[02:13:24] You don't need station make a mania's movie
[02:13:26] I'm taking the comic-lipped characters from a comedy movie and giving them their own movie where they can't talk
[02:13:30] So this doesn't make sense to me. I know they fall in love of fire hydrants and shit
[02:13:34] I say, but they really the comic relief or just like a symbol for everything that's wrong with children's entertainment today
[02:13:40] I think they're I think they're cute movies
[02:13:43] Well, the games in like Jurassic world is taking me moves are fine. The means are the worst part of it though
[02:13:49] Agreed
[02:13:53] Everybody else loves them my wife is excited for it
[02:13:56] Really? Yeah
[02:13:59] Don't judge my wife
[02:14:01] No, she doesn't like her books are the most depressing shit you'll ever see you know, why do you read stuff like that?
[02:14:07] Yep, you've known her for so long too. It's just like she always reads the most depressing crap
[02:14:12] Yeah, I can't wait to see Terminator Arnold fight Arnold. I've been waiting for you. I
[02:14:18] Hope it's as good as Maggie I
[02:14:20] Hope it's as good as Terminator 2 like James Cameron promised it is yeah
[02:14:27] James Cameron said it was good and he swears he didn't get paid
[02:14:31] Well, James Cameron's money
[02:14:33] Cameron's an asshole so if he's right, I believe him if he says it's good
[02:14:37] That doesn't actually sway me one way or the other because he made avatar. Yeah, that was your number
[02:14:42] Three movie. Yeah, but that movie is not amazing. No that movie is about on par with Jurassic world
[02:14:48] Avatar yeah
[02:14:50] you hate spewed Jurassic world for like 12 minutes and
[02:14:54] Avatar was in your top 10 movies from yeah, but I was dumb back then
[02:14:58] He's a dumb kid. That was a dumb kid man five years actually
[02:15:02] I would rather know actually I would rather watch avatar than
[02:15:05] More years till we eclipse that
[02:15:08] Yeah
