[00:00:00] Welcome to Reel Nerds Podcast! Do I still say unofficially the official podcast at Denver Comic Con 2014 now?
[00:00:26] We do. It's just that it's over. Man, it's over.
[00:00:29] It came and went real quick.
[00:00:31] It did. It was like the first time you got into pussy. It come and go faster than shit.
[00:00:36] Oh gosh, this is the worst. Oh man.
[00:00:40] Right away.
[00:00:41] I miss it already. I really do. I was actually depressed come Monday morning.
[00:00:45] Like really? I wasn't going to kill myself.
[00:00:49] Let's not get any letters in this week, but I'm just saying.
[00:00:53] We get letters in saying, I heard James was depressed and all he needs to do is reach out and kill someone.
[00:01:00] Yeah.
[00:01:02] I'm Ryan. To my right is James. To my left is Brad.
[00:01:07] And we are the Reel Nerds Podcast. If you have never listened to Reel Nerds Podcast before,
[00:01:12] we go see a new movie every week and we talk about it. This week we saw the internship
[00:01:17] and we talk about it. Hopefully you enjoy what we have to say.
[00:01:20] Finally getting back to the normal format.
[00:01:22] I know. I can't believe we don't have a guest this week.
[00:01:24] There's no guests. There's not a lot of crazy stuff we got to worry about.
[00:01:27] I know. It's like a down week.
[00:01:29] It's like normal. It's like, hey how about we just go see a movie and have fun and see what happens?
[00:01:33] It is. We're going to have to course Brad into having a good time because Brad got a new laptop
[00:01:40] and he's not very happy with it right now.
[00:01:42] Yeah. That's okay.
[00:01:44] And my mic wasn't on for when I...
[00:01:46] Oh boy.
[00:01:47] I'm just having a great time with sound right now.
[00:01:49] It's alright.
[00:01:50] It's alright buddy.
[00:01:51] We're gonna be okay.
[00:01:52] Brad, come sit on my lap. I'll give you something that will make you really happy.
[00:01:55] No.
[00:01:56] It's a chunky.
[00:01:58] What?
[00:01:59] What are you doing with your pants?
[00:02:01] I actually had a candy bar in there for a second.
[00:02:03] Yeah, I did too.
[00:02:04] That was an old office joke. It's one of my favorite ones.
[00:02:07] It's a chunky.
[00:02:09] We also talked about what we've been watching.
[00:02:11] Hit some movie news, box office numbers, stuff that's coming out.
[00:02:15] James has a comic book for us this week in Comic Book Corner.
[00:02:17] I do.
[00:02:19] Yeah. Before we get going into fan mail, I was just gonna kind of gauge you guys'
[00:02:25] overall now we've had a week to think about it and how did Denver Comic Con treat you?
[00:02:30] It was great. It was really good.
[00:02:32] We had some rough spots.
[00:02:34] We did.
[00:02:35] But dude, we got to talk to George Jonte and Joe Kelly and Ben Tempel Smith and Mike Rage
[00:02:43] and all these wonderful people.
[00:02:44] I had so many people coming by the booth.
[00:02:46] Actual fans.
[00:02:48] All the people that we wish would write in every week during the fan mail section,
[00:02:52] they were all coming up saying, oh, I've been listening to you guys for forever.
[00:02:55] Josh and Joe and James and other people whose names started with a J.
[00:02:59] and then came up and were really nice. It was fantastic.
[00:03:02] Never got out to the floor to look at comics though.
[00:03:04] That was like my one big regret was like, I didn't get to spend just 20 minutes
[00:03:08] looking through a box of comics I don't want or need.
[00:03:11] It was weird. We were really busy this time.
[00:03:14] I was told by many people and me and Brad did a live radio show called Rhino Radio.
[00:03:19] CBS News Rhino Radio is pretty cool.
[00:03:23] He was saying that he was impressed about how many people were always at our table.
[00:03:27] Amy from Tsunami says we're the most professional looking podcast she's ever seen.
[00:03:31] That's why she sends us on to do things.
[00:03:34] It's all the farce.
[00:03:36] We sort of learned that last year was like, you know, if you just put in a farce around the booth,
[00:03:40] people think you're more than you are.
[00:03:42] Because last year we were nothing and we went out there and had this nice looking booth
[00:03:45] and it makes a lot of people stop.
[00:03:48] I'm proud that there is a lot more podcasts and we did really well.
[00:03:53] Yeah, it was good.
[00:03:55] So I don't think I talked about it last week.
[00:03:58] You might remember, Brad, I have a listen to the new episode and I was so tired on Sunday.
[00:04:03] One of my, I had two really favorite parts from Devra Comic Con.
[00:04:08] I was given the privilege of moderating five panels and so I was always busy.
[00:04:15] So I got to the Phil Lamar panel early.
[00:04:19] Obviously I always get there early just to, I don't know why I do this.
[00:04:22] Every time I go to a panel early to meet the celebrities, they never show up on time.
[00:04:26] Right, but it would be way worse if you were late and they were on time.
[00:04:30] So on Saturday I was doing the Phil Lamar panel and Phil Lamar is a really accomplished actor.
[00:04:37] He's in Pulp Fiction and he was on Mad TV for a while
[00:04:41] and he's now a big voice actor.
[00:04:45] And so he was late and I didn't know what to do.
[00:04:51] So I just kept on saying, oh, is he coming?
[00:04:53] And they had like this back area for the main events hall, which was like the kitchen.
[00:04:58] But you guys never got over to the main events, did you?
[00:05:01] Oh no, I never left the...
[00:05:03] It was weird. Like, you know where we did our podcast panel?
[00:05:06] Yeah.
[00:05:07] You had to take a left and then go like another hundred feet and go downstairs to like this huge ballroom.
[00:05:12] Huh.
[00:05:14] And so when I was up there, they said, hey, you need to run interference.
[00:05:19] Because these people are going to start eating each other if Phil Lamar doesn't show up right now.
[00:05:24] And I go up there and I'm like, what the fuck am I going to talk about?
[00:05:27] And so I just said that I'm up here to sing and dance, but I'm not really going to sing and dance
[00:05:33] and I was booed by a couple hundred people for not singing or dancing.
[00:05:37] And then I did my old Chris Farley joke where I act like I'm dead in a coffin.
[00:05:42] Well, the joke really is that you say you're going to do an impression of Chris Farley
[00:05:45] and everybody's like, oh yeah, he kind of looks like Chris Farley.
[00:05:47] He's going to do the down by the river thing.
[00:05:49] Yeah, yeah, you know, or a freckin little coat.
[00:05:52] Like this guy can totally rock a Chris Farley joke.
[00:05:55] And then I just act like I'm dead.
[00:05:57] And he crosses his arms over his chest and then closes his eyes.
[00:06:01] And what was really cool is how he's doing it.
[00:06:04] It took him a while to get it.
[00:06:06] We'll put up the panel eventually because I recorded it.
[00:06:10] But it took about a second for people getting this all of a sudden like, oh, boo.
[00:06:16] And this huge boo and the loudest boo was coming up from the middle of the aisle
[00:06:21] and that was Phil Lamar.
[00:06:22] And he was coming up and as he is coming up and he was shaking my hand,
[00:06:27] he said thank you so much for distracting people.
[00:06:29] That was great.
[00:06:30] And he sat down.
[00:06:31] That's so cool.
[00:06:32] And then afterwards he even like talked to me for a few minutes
[00:06:35] and saying how nice it was that I helped him out.
[00:06:37] He's like, dude, come on now.
[00:06:39] I really didn't do anything.
[00:06:40] And actually my picture with him is my, well,
[00:06:43] my second favorite picture with a celebrity because Claire Kramer smelled great.
[00:06:47] Buffy the vampire Slayer actors smell great.
[00:06:50] Yeah.
[00:06:51] And she was also a nice one.
[00:06:52] Erin Gray was awesome.
[00:06:53] She answered my Jason goes to hell question.
[00:06:55] Oh, did she?
[00:06:56] What'd she say?
[00:06:57] Well, you know, it was kind of funny because she was actually early
[00:07:01] and but she was on the phone.
[00:07:03] I also wanted just to talk to her really quickly and just say,
[00:07:05] hey, just there's something you want me to talk about.
[00:07:07] They said, oh, you know, just ask me what I'm doing now.
[00:07:10] It turns out she's an agent and she teaches Tai Chi.
[00:07:14] No way.
[00:07:15] And so she taught everybody Tai Chi.
[00:07:16] It was pretty interesting.
[00:07:17] And when she opened it up for questions,
[00:07:19] no one was really jumping at it.
[00:07:21] So I said, I asked her, I said, you know,
[00:07:24] you're one of the first Friday 13th characters that I cared about
[00:07:26] that they died in this series.
[00:07:28] And she was actually like impressed that I knew that she was in that.
[00:07:33] And by the way, she's like 60 something and she's still pretty good looking.
[00:07:38] And so she was really funny answering the questions and how she really didn't want to do it,
[00:07:42] but she was a big to do it.
[00:07:43] And she was promised that when people went and saw it,
[00:07:46] they'd have a good time and she was right.
[00:07:48] And she went south a bunch of audience members and everybody was cheering.
[00:07:52] And my second favorite thing is talking to Joe Kelly because it was weird.
[00:07:58] You introduced me to his actual name through I killed Giants.
[00:08:02] Yeah.
[00:08:03] But I've been reading his comics for a while.
[00:08:05] Right.
[00:08:06] And it was just really cool finding out that he's his favorite character,
[00:08:10] Spider-Man.
[00:08:11] And you can tell in his writing when he wrote Spider-Man that he had a really strong
[00:08:14] connection with the character and he was just such a nice guy.
[00:08:17] Oh yeah.
[00:08:18] Really gracious with his time.
[00:08:19] He told some really fun stories.
[00:08:21] Yeah.
[00:08:23] That was that was a highlight for sure.
[00:08:25] Yeah.
[00:08:26] And you weren't there for Fiona Staples,
[00:08:29] but getting to talk to Fiona Staples twice was really cool.
[00:08:33] She's so adorable.
[00:08:36] It's cool because she's somebody who's sort of really blown up in the last year or
[00:08:39] so, year and a half.
[00:08:41] And you can tell because when you talk to her,
[00:08:43] especially in a context like that where you're sort of interviewing her,
[00:08:46] she's still really timid and shy and like, you know,
[00:08:51] it's all clearly very new to her.
[00:08:54] Like it's not new to us but you know.
[00:08:56] But that was a cute picture you have with her.
[00:08:58] She's little.
[00:08:59] Yeah.
[00:09:00] Yeah.
[00:09:01] She is adorable.
[00:09:02] And I think that's why I'm here.
[00:09:03] I'm here to thank James for finding Joe Kelly.
[00:09:06] Not that.
[00:09:07] Yeah.
[00:09:08] Thank you, Joe Kelly.
[00:09:09] James has found him and Joe Kelly was cool because we originally said,
[00:09:14] hey Joe, you might be in on the show for like 10 minutes
[00:09:16] and he was there for like 40 minutes.
[00:09:18] Well, I left it open to him because you know,
[00:09:20] anytime I pull somebody over,
[00:09:21] I know that they're not getting paid to be at our table
[00:09:23] and they're getting paid to be at their booth.
[00:09:25] You know, like the longer,
[00:09:26] the more they're at their booth promoting their stuff,
[00:09:28] the more money they're going to make for the weekend, all of that.
[00:09:31] So yeah, I kept telling him.
[00:09:32] I was like, oh, you know, it's 10 or 15 minutes
[00:09:34] and if you know, if you need to go or anything,
[00:09:36] you just give us a signal and he's in it.
[00:09:38] But he was like, no,
[00:09:39] I got somebody watching my booth.
[00:09:40] I'll be okay.
[00:09:41] And so he just went and I think he was having a good enough time
[00:09:44] just having a little chat with us that he didn't mind it all.
[00:09:46] We ended up being the ones who wrapped it.
[00:09:48] Yeah.
[00:09:49] And it's cool too because you know,
[00:09:50] George is and Joe Kelly and Ben Templesmith said,
[00:09:53] we asked really good questions even though with Ben Templesmith
[00:09:55] I was never as sure if I was doing the right thing.
[00:09:58] Ben Templesmith is so interesting because he,
[00:10:00] he's one of those guys and I knew it was going to be a problem
[00:10:02] and I tried to warn you but he's one of those guys
[00:10:04] who can just talk circles around you
[00:10:06] and really put your own foot in your mouth.
[00:10:08] Because like as you ask the question,
[00:10:10] he'll like cut you off and make you look stupid
[00:10:12] and you're like, oh fuck.
[00:10:15] But really a nice guy and I think it may not play
[00:10:18] in that interview, that interview, when we put that up
[00:10:20] we might just look like assholes.
[00:10:21] I don't know, I don't care.
[00:10:22] But it was really cool that like as soon as it was over
[00:10:26] he stood up and shook our hands and he was like,
[00:10:28] was that all right? Was that pretty good?
[00:10:30] And we were like dude yeah, that was great.
[00:10:32] Like it's funny as hell no matter what it is.
[00:10:34] Yeah because he would say the most unusual things
[00:10:37] and I never knew because I was talking to Brad earlier
[00:10:41] and Brad brought up that you know maybe he gets
[00:10:43] tired of those softball questions.
[00:10:45] Right.
[00:10:46] But for me, you know it's a way for me to get in
[00:10:48] to the person without, I mean obviously I know
[00:10:52] who Ben Templesmith is but I didn't know
[00:10:54] what his influences are, why he decided to get into art
[00:10:57] and you know I said so you know what's your inspiration
[00:11:00] for art and he told us burning babies.
[00:11:02] Yeah.
[00:11:03] He doesn't burn them, he just watches them burn.
[00:11:05] And then at first, okay, so what is it about
[00:11:09] the burning babies?
[00:11:10] And then you realize you can joke with him?
[00:11:11] Yeah.
[00:11:12] I mean he was a really nice guy.
[00:11:13] It's funny because like that's just sort of
[00:11:15] our interviewing style is that we'll ask one
[00:11:18] or two of those softball questions
[00:11:19] and if they give us enough then we can pluck
[00:11:22] from their answers and really then dig deeper.
[00:11:25] I mean that's how you did like what one and a half
[00:11:27] hours with Jonathan Tearston like because he you know
[00:11:32] you can just find little things and then
[00:11:35] dig a little bit further with the follow-up questions.
[00:11:38] But if his answers are all burning babies
[00:11:40] you're just like fuck now what do I do?
[00:11:43] But the one thing I will say about Ben Templesmith
[00:11:45] is he cares a lot about his fans.
[00:11:47] Oh absolutely.
[00:11:48] He dresses really nice for his fans and he
[00:11:50] purposely makes how he draws at his table
[00:11:52] more interesting than just a pen and a
[00:11:54] piece of paper which I thought was really cool.
[00:11:56] Oh yeah.
[00:11:57] And he says and he's told us that it's because
[00:11:59] I want them because it's for the fans.
[00:12:01] It's not for me and yeah there's like a
[00:12:03] showmanship to it which is really cool.
[00:12:05] It's really cool.
[00:12:06] And just so you guys know, well you
[00:12:11] guys know our fans out there,
[00:12:13] Zach Howard, Joe Kelly and George S.
[00:12:15] Chanti might be making an appearance in
[00:12:17] one of the real nerds pod show episodes.
[00:12:19] Yeah.
[00:12:20] Yeah.
[00:12:21] There might have been something that we filmed.
[00:12:23] We may have thrown something together last
[00:12:25] minute that we're all really proud of that
[00:12:27] I think is really cool.
[00:12:28] So eventually you're going to get to see
[00:12:30] something real neat out of that con.
[00:12:32] Absolutely.
[00:12:33] So yeah thanks Denver Comic Con looking
[00:12:35] forward to 2014 which is a 75th anniversary
[00:12:37] of Batman which I'm pretty sure Batman
[00:12:39] is a theme if you look at their logo
[00:12:41] they already have for it.
[00:12:42] Next year it's Bat Wings.
[00:12:43] So what's our money on Adam West
[00:12:45] being there?
[00:12:46] I mean that's...
[00:12:47] That's gotta be sweet.
[00:12:48] That's gotta be locked right?
[00:12:49] Like that's gotta be their number one get.
[00:12:51] Well hopefully and then we'll see if
[00:12:53] we can get him on the show.
[00:12:54] Oh hell yeah.
[00:12:55] I don't know if I can't even do
[00:12:57] Adam West.
[00:12:58] So it's my favorite part of the show
[00:13:04] and that's fan mail.
[00:13:06] Fan mail!
[00:13:11] Hey got some fan mail this week.
[00:13:14] Cool.
[00:13:15] Some stuff is really cool.
[00:13:18] Right off the bat thank you everybody
[00:13:22] who decided they were going to follow us
[00:13:24] and talk to us at the con because
[00:13:27] without our fans we would not be...
[00:13:30] Well we'd still probably do this but it
[00:13:31] makes it more fun when we have them.
[00:13:33] Oh yeah.
[00:13:36] So I asked...
[00:13:40] So Reggie sent us a tweet about
[00:13:42] he's gonna come on the show.
[00:13:44] Cool.
[00:13:45] So we're gonna see a movie with
[00:13:46] Reggie who's one of the first guys who
[00:13:47] sat down and talked to us last year
[00:13:49] Denver Comic Con and this is the
[00:13:51] first time we saw him again.
[00:13:53] So he said, of course I'll hang out
[00:13:55] with you guys on your show man
[00:13:57] just let me know the time and place.
[00:13:58] You know what Reggie?
[00:13:59] Anytime any place let us know.
[00:14:02] Well not any place.
[00:14:03] Well don't do close to here.
[00:14:05] Like Mexico.
[00:14:07] I don't want to go see a movie in
[00:14:08] Mexico.
[00:14:10] We also got an email from Joshua
[00:14:15] who was on our show a couple weeks ago.
[00:14:17] He is the artist and writer of
[00:14:19] Trashman and he had a really cool
[00:14:21] Joker print at Denver Comic Con.
[00:14:23] Yeah.
[00:14:24] I won't read it word for word because
[00:14:26] it's like kind of self congratulatory
[00:14:28] for us and I don't know if people
[00:14:30] want to hear that.
[00:14:31] But basically he's saying that
[00:14:33] he had a great time.
[00:14:34] He sold a bunch of books at the
[00:14:35] convention and he hopes it went
[00:14:39] well for us and yeah.
[00:14:42] So thanks Joshua.
[00:14:44] Thanks for sending us an email and
[00:14:45] thank you for saying we did a good
[00:14:47] job.
[00:14:48] I'm glad it went well for you too.
[00:14:50] Because that's got to be nerve
[00:14:51] wracking having your own artist
[00:14:53] table right there.
[00:14:54] Well you know like I walked through
[00:14:55] it now obviously we were pretty busy
[00:14:57] but I walked through the artists
[00:14:58] section quite a few times.
[00:15:00] It's one of those things where
[00:15:01] sometimes you can just get
[00:15:02] blinders on and you end up not
[00:15:04] catching everything you're looking
[00:15:05] at but he was in a really good
[00:15:06] place had some really great
[00:15:07] artists with him.
[00:15:08] A lot of people were stopping.
[00:15:10] So yeah it's good to know
[00:15:13] well.
[00:15:14] So yeah so he said he was busy
[00:15:17] so that's a good thing.
[00:15:18] That's a good thing for him.
[00:15:22] We also met this girl Rebecca
[00:15:25] sent us an email about Nairate
[00:15:26] which is an app that you can get
[00:15:28] for your tablet soon to come to
[00:15:30] iPhone.
[00:15:31] I think you get it already for
[00:15:32] the Android she said but it's
[00:15:34] a motion comic that you can buy
[00:15:36] and it's created by artists
[00:15:39] and it's totally free and you
[00:15:40] earn points by watching it.
[00:15:42] You'll have to go to the app to
[00:15:44] get the exact details of it
[00:15:46] but I download it's pretty cool
[00:15:48] and everybody should check it out
[00:15:50] it's called Nairate it's N-A-R-R-8
[00:15:52] and Rebecca said that it was
[00:15:56] nice to meet you at Denver Comic
[00:15:58] Con and to get to chat about
[00:15:59] her stuff it was nice to meet
[00:16:00] you.
[00:16:01] She really reached out to us
[00:16:02] and really wanted to do an
[00:16:03] interview so it's cool that
[00:16:04] they were able to sit down
[00:16:06] and say hi.
[00:16:08] Yeah that's Nairate, that's
[00:16:09] 8th the number not N-A-R-R-8
[00:16:12] the number.
[00:16:14] Get it?
[00:16:16] Yes I do.
[00:16:17] Good.
[00:16:20] We also, I don't know if you've
[00:16:21] ever heard of this guy
[00:16:23] his name is Joe Kelly.
[00:16:25] Oh yeah.
[00:16:26] He's from Man of Action.
[00:16:27] Yeah.
[00:16:28] I think we have his email address.
[00:16:29] We do have his email address.
[00:16:30] We also have George's
[00:16:31] Johnty's phone number.
[00:16:32] Yeah we do anytime.
[00:16:33] Anytime.
[00:16:34] Just give him a call.
[00:16:35] Okay you want to get a beer?
[00:16:36] George's?
[00:16:37] I just had a fun picture with
[00:16:40] Joe and I just tweeted to him
[00:16:42] and he says hey Joe thanks for
[00:16:44] coming on and I said great time
[00:16:46] guys thanks for letting me
[00:16:47] ramble so that was really nice
[00:16:49] of him and of course he's a
[00:16:50] really nice understated guy.
[00:16:52] Yeah.
[00:16:53] And if you haven't read I Kill
[00:16:54] Giants yet.
[00:16:55] Oh my god.
[00:16:56] I asked him what his, the
[00:16:57] work that he's most proud of
[00:16:58] and he said I Kill Giants
[00:16:59] because it's so personal.
[00:17:00] Yeah.
[00:17:01] Well he sort of said
[00:17:02] everything but
[00:17:04] if you had to pick one.
[00:17:05] Yeah.
[00:17:06] Don't read that book in
[00:17:07] public you'll cry in public.
[00:17:08] Yeah.
[00:17:09] And it's you know.
[00:17:10] We also
[00:17:11] debuted
[00:17:12] our first episode
[00:17:14] of the pod show at open
[00:17:15] screen night and it was put up
[00:17:17] on YouTube on our own YouTube
[00:17:18] channel and Greg
[00:17:20] Brigettes of
[00:17:22] Midget Zombie Takeover and
[00:17:24] To Die Is Hard which I loved.
[00:17:26] He said he says great
[00:17:27] work real nerds on our
[00:17:29] YouTube channel so.
[00:17:30] Yeah.
[00:17:31] So thanks we appreciate it.
[00:17:32] Thanks Greg.
[00:17:33] Coro saw it and said it was
[00:17:34] really epic.
[00:17:35] Yeah and Coro saw it so it
[00:17:36] was epic.
[00:17:37] John Ekstrom our good old friend
[00:17:38] John said James
[00:17:40] Hedgier is not a rocketeer
[00:17:41] helmet.
[00:17:42] Ha.
[00:17:43] So Brad was worried that that
[00:17:44] line didn't play and you know
[00:17:45] what it played on somebody
[00:17:46] Brad so that's good.
[00:17:48] Yeah.
[00:17:49] Thanks everybody who wrote in
[00:17:52] we've already had a couple
[00:17:54] more requests
[00:17:55] for coming on.
[00:18:00] Dan Connor.
[00:18:02] Yeah I met him at the show
[00:18:03] he did.
[00:18:04] He's a cartoonist based in
[00:18:05] Lakewood he wants to come
[00:18:06] and
[00:18:07] on our podcast.
[00:18:08] So yeah Dan
[00:18:10] send us an email when it works
[00:18:11] for you.
[00:18:12] Anybody who wants to be on our
[00:18:13] podcast if you're in Colorado

[00:18:19] time and a place
[00:18:21] and you can be on our show
[00:18:22] unless you're like some kind
[00:18:23] of crazy Nazi dude and then
[00:18:24] we'll just we'll just like
[00:18:25] skirt.
[00:18:26] Nazis need not apply pretend
[00:18:27] like we're always busy talk
[00:18:29] about washing our hair.
[00:18:31] I mean you wouldn't understand
[00:18:32] because you're bald.
[00:18:34] Yeah.
[00:18:35] The Nazis.
[00:18:36] OK.
[00:18:37] Because they're skinheads so
[00:18:38] they don't wash their hair.
[00:18:39] Gotcha.
[00:18:40] Yeah.
[00:18:41] Are Nazis and skinheads the
[00:18:42] same.
[00:18:43] Mostly.
[00:18:44] They're very similar.
[00:18:45] Like skinheads are like you
[00:18:46] know neo Nazis usually.
[00:18:49] So if you've wondering like
[00:18:51] hey how did these great people
[00:18:52] like Joe Kelly and George's
[00:18:53] John T. retweet and tweet us

[00:19:31] Yeah.
[00:19:32] If you don't like the pod
[00:19:33] you can look forward to
[00:19:35] some video interviews of
[00:19:37] some of the comic artists.
[00:19:38] Right.
[00:19:39] Yeah.
[00:19:40] We've got video of the Fiona
[00:19:41] Staples.
[00:19:42] I haven't seen I was I was
[00:19:43] moderating the Will We in
[00:19:45] Felicia Day panel.
[00:19:47] So I'm kind of jealous for
[00:19:48] that one because
[00:19:50] you know what I said at the
[00:19:51] Will We in a Felicia Day
[00:19:52] panel.
[00:19:53] Nothing.
[00:19:54] Absolutely nothing.
[00:19:55] I said here's Will We in
[00:19:56] a Felicia Day and then at
[00:19:57] the end I try to say we
[00:19:59] have time for one more
[00:20:00] question then will we in
[00:20:02] and that was it.
[00:20:04] And that's all I said at the
[00:20:05] Will We in Felicia Day
[00:20:06] panel when you did a good job
[00:20:08] anyway.
[00:20:09] I'm sure.
[00:20:10] I mean I mean he I don't
[00:20:11] think he was like yelling at
[00:20:12] me.
[00:20:13] I think he was being funny.
[00:20:14] Yeah.
[00:20:15] Maybe maybe he didn't like
[00:20:16] me.
[00:20:17] The job of the moderator is
[00:20:18] to be that asshole at the
[00:20:19] end that's like we only have
[00:20:20] time for one more question
[00:20:21] and then everybody throws
[00:20:22] stuff at that guy.
[00:20:23] So yeah.
[00:20:24] Will We it says no no you
[00:20:25] don't get to do that.
[00:20:26] So that's fine.
[00:20:28] I knew that was going to
[00:20:29] happen in fact when I
[00:20:30] was up there for their panel
[00:20:31] no one was coming to the
[00:20:32] mics and I was about to say
[00:20:33] hey you know there's mics
[00:20:34] to the left or right and then
[00:20:35] Will We in said it for me
[00:20:37] and then they just started
[00:20:38] talking.
[00:20:40] And it was really funny too
[00:20:41] because before it started
[00:20:42] the camera operator says hey
[00:20:43] you know you can sit really
[00:20:44] close to them if you want
[00:20:45] to be on in the picture
[00:20:46] like no I mean why the
[00:20:48] fuck would I sit next to
[00:20:49] them.
[00:20:50] And nobody's nobody's
[00:20:51] watching online at home
[00:20:52] going like oh I really I
[00:20:53] really like staring at
[00:20:54] that one guy on the right
[00:20:55] who's that moderator he's
[00:20:56] doing a great job listening to
[00:20:57] look at how look at the way
[00:20:58] he just sits there.
[00:20:59] He really he's like a thinker.
[00:21:01] Yeah there was a really great
[00:21:02] moment though I did have a
[00:21:03] fun moment when Will We in
[00:21:05] was talking about being a dog
[00:21:06] or something acting like a
[00:21:07] dog and it was really funny
[00:21:09] and I was laughing and then
[00:21:10] at the end everyone was
[00:21:11] laughing and Felicia Day
[00:21:12] like leaned back and like
[00:21:13] mouth are you OK to me.
[00:21:15] I'm fine.
[00:21:16] I'm fine I'm sitting on
[00:21:17] same rule in Felicia Day.
[00:21:19] I got like a front row seat
[00:21:20] to this panel.
[00:21:21] Yeah exactly.
[00:21:23] So yeah thanks everybody
[00:21:24] who wrote in appreciate it.
[00:21:26] It's awesome.
[00:21:27] Also if you have not gotten
[00:21:28] your shirt yet first of all
[00:21:30] thank you to everyone and
[00:21:31] anyone who bought a shirt.
[00:21:33] They the ones that have to
[00:21:34] get mailed will get mailed
[00:21:35] out this week.
[00:21:37] So just keep on tune.
[00:21:38] Yeah they're coming with
[00:21:39] your bonus prize.
[00:21:40] Yeah with all your bonus stuff
[00:21:42] if you got bonus stuff or
[00:21:43] if you got bonus stuff.
[00:21:44] Natalie Natalie.
[00:21:46] OK cool.
[00:21:48] Stuff we've been watching
[00:21:51] so yeah this is stuff
[00:21:53] we've been watching.
[00:21:55] Did you watch a lot this
[00:21:56] week.
[00:21:57] Not too much.
[00:21:59] I did get a new Robert
[00:22:00] Danny Junior movie.
[00:22:01] What.
[00:22:02] Yeah.
[00:22:03] Because it's at this point
[00:22:05] now where I really just need
[00:22:06] his independent stuff
[00:22:08] and or really like not
[00:22:10] high obscure print DVDs
[00:22:12] of his.
[00:22:13] Yeah.
[00:22:14] And so I always check
[00:22:15] every day obviously on well
[00:22:17] not every day about once or
[00:22:18] twice a week on Amazon
[00:22:20] and last week arrows
[00:22:22] was two ninety nine on DVD
[00:22:24] arrows like E.R.
[00:22:25] S.
[00:22:26] And usually that DVD is like
[00:22:28] 14 ninety nine.
[00:22:29] Like sweet.
[00:22:31] And it's actually
[00:22:33] three short films
[00:22:34] by three different directors
[00:22:36] and writers all about love
[00:22:37] and it's all about like yes
[00:22:38] sex.
[00:22:40] No.
[00:22:41] It's supposed to be like
[00:22:42] erotic but me.
[00:22:44] And the first one was a
[00:22:45] Taiwanese film.
[00:22:46] I forget
[00:22:48] the director something
[00:22:49] Wong I think it's Lee
[00:22:50] Wong or something like racist
[00:22:53] I'm serious I think that's
[00:22:54] like the real name.
[00:22:56] And it was interesting it was
[00:22:58] about this
[00:23:00] Taylor who
[00:23:03] got his first break
[00:23:05] and he was getting close for a
[00:23:06] madam like a prostitute
[00:23:08] and she gave him a hand job
[00:23:10] and she said
[00:23:12] she was basically telling
[00:23:13] him that she has to fill this
[00:23:14] way he has to fill this way
[00:23:15] if he ever wants to be a
[00:23:16] Taylor and he has to know
[00:23:17] what it's like to touch a
[00:23:18] woman
[00:23:19] and then he kept on going
[00:23:20] back to her and she never
[00:23:21] repaid him and
[00:23:23] it was actually pretty good.
[00:23:24] It's really hard to describe
[00:23:26] the movie.
[00:23:27] So she gives him a hand job
[00:23:29] to teach him
[00:23:30] how to Taylor close
[00:23:33] and he goes he has to remember
[00:23:34] that that you fork filling
[00:23:36] because making closes like
[00:23:38] getting a hand job.
[00:23:39] Yeah.
[00:23:40] And then he keeps going back
[00:23:41] to get paid back
[00:23:42] like you're to pay her
[00:23:43] but like he wants to give
[00:23:44] her a hand job.
[00:23:45] No he's in love with her
[00:23:46] but oh OK.
[00:23:47] But she's always seeing people
[00:23:48] it's but she's busy
[00:23:50] giving other guys
[00:23:51] jobs.
[00:23:52] It's really hard to describe
[00:23:53] you have to kind of watch it
[00:23:54] because she's she's running around
[00:23:55] telling everyone if you want to
[00:23:56] do your job right you have to
[00:23:57] remember what it's like to get a
[00:23:58] hand job for me.
[00:24:00] Yeah you'd have to watch it
[00:24:01] it's really hard to describe
[00:24:02] but it's pretty well done.
[00:24:03] It's awkward.
[00:24:05] The Robert Downey Junior one
[00:24:07] is written and directed by
[00:24:08] Stephen Soderberg dude
[00:24:10] it stars him and Alan Arkin
[00:24:12] OK.
[00:24:13] Yeah I'm totally in now
[00:24:15] it takes place in the 50s
[00:24:16] and he's an ad guy
[00:24:18] so it's like Mad Men
[00:24:19] before there's Mad Men
[00:24:20] and
[00:24:21] so he plays
[00:24:24] a guy who's trying to figure out
[00:24:25] how to sell an alarm clock
[00:24:27] and Alan Arkin is his
[00:24:29] psychiatrist
[00:24:30] and he's trying to
[00:24:32] break through and it's
[00:24:34] it's really just these two guys
[00:24:35] talking the whole time
[00:24:37] and of course
[00:24:39] I mean those two are amazing
[00:24:40] in it
[00:24:42] and it's shot really well
[00:24:43] because it's Soderberg
[00:24:45] it starts off in color
[00:24:46] it's really weird
[00:24:47] it's called equilibrium
[00:24:49] and it starts off in color
[00:24:50] and this lady's just naked
[00:24:52] and then it cuts to black
[00:24:53] and white with him talking
[00:24:54] to
[00:24:56] Alan Arkin saying how his
[00:24:57] equilibrium is always messed up
[00:24:58] and he doesn't know what's going on
[00:25:00] all the time
[00:25:01] and
[00:25:02] Is it like in different
[00:25:03] like the way Memento does that
[00:25:04] where it's in different time zones
[00:25:06] or not time
[00:25:07] it's like in different
[00:25:08] settings or different time periods
[00:25:09] Yeah kind of
[00:25:11] and it's just really fascinating
[00:25:13] because
[00:25:14] he's trying to get this break
[00:25:15] through so
[00:25:16] Alan Arkin is trying to
[00:25:17] get him to talk
[00:25:18] and while he's talking
[00:25:20] Alan Arkin is like
[00:25:21] trying to
[00:25:22] he's checking somebody out in binoculars
[00:25:24] and so first he starts with
[00:25:25] like these little binoculars
[00:25:26] and then
[00:25:27] Robert Downey Jr. is telling
[00:25:28] this dream he's been having
[00:25:30] because Alan Arkin says
[00:25:31] well this dream might be
[00:25:33] your breakthrough
[00:25:34] with your ad
[00:25:35] and so while
[00:25:36] he takes these little binoculars
[00:25:37] and they're not good enough
[00:25:38] so he runs across while
[00:25:39] Robert Downey Jr. is telling
[00:25:40] this dream and he gets these
[00:25:41] really big binoculars
[00:25:42] and it's a really good movie
[00:25:43] it's like
[00:25:45] maybe only 25 minutes long
[00:25:47] and
[00:25:49] I can't tell too much
[00:25:50] because it kind of spoils
[00:25:51] what happens in it
[00:25:52] but it's really
[00:25:53] I mean the acting in it is
[00:25:54] obviously awesome
[00:25:55] and they're really the only
[00:25:56] two people in it
[00:25:57] besides the naked chick
[00:25:59] so
[00:26:00] yeah and then the third one
[00:26:01] was horrible
[00:26:02] it was
[00:26:03] some Italian one
[00:26:04] by Michelangelo
[00:26:05] something
[00:26:07] and it was trying to be like
[00:26:08] erotic and sexy
[00:26:10] but it wasn't
[00:26:11] like
[00:26:12] No handjobs
[00:26:13] No
[00:26:14] this girl was wearing like
[00:26:15] a see-through shirt
[00:26:16] like any sense why she was
[00:26:17] wearing it
[00:26:18] just as like an excuse
[00:26:19] to show her boobs
[00:26:20] were like the
[00:26:21] the Sadeberg one
[00:26:22] was this girl was naked
[00:26:23] but she was like in a dream
[00:26:25] so
[00:26:26] I think
[00:26:27] that
[00:26:28] so that one
[00:26:29] and it was all
[00:26:30] shot really well
[00:26:31] so it was basically
[00:26:32] Robert Downey Jr. trying
[00:26:33] to figure out
[00:26:34] why he kept on having this dream
[00:26:35] and so you saw her
[00:26:36] like
[00:26:37] in the distance
[00:26:38] through a mirror
[00:26:39] and then it was
[00:26:40] I mean it was well done
[00:26:41] and I don't think
[00:26:42] it was ever supposed
[00:26:43] to be like titillating
[00:26:44] that she was naked
[00:26:45] and this one is just
[00:26:46] blatant and
[00:26:47] I mean there was a part where
[00:26:48] like the Italian one
[00:26:49] ended with these two girls
[00:26:51] that were in love with this
[00:26:52] one guy
[00:26:54] and they were both
[00:26:55] then they both ended up
[00:26:56] dancing naked on a beach
[00:26:57] and then they met each other
[00:26:58] it was really stupid
[00:26:59] it was horrible
[00:27:00] it didn't fit the rest of them
[00:27:02] I mean even though
[00:27:03] I didn't describe the Chinese
[00:27:04] handjob one very well
[00:27:06] No I think you did a great
[00:27:07] Jeff
[00:27:08] It was well done
[00:27:09] I don't know how to
[00:27:10] describe it without it
[00:27:11] It's weird
[00:27:12] Like yeah
[00:27:13] It means all the
[00:27:15] Yeah it means more
[00:27:16] when you
[00:27:17] because it starts
[00:27:19] the Chinese one starts
[00:27:20] at the end
[00:27:21] and then it tells how it got there
[00:27:22] so the end is replayed again
[00:27:24] so the beginning of
[00:27:26] of the film makes more sense
[00:27:27] and it's more poignant
[00:27:28] Right
[00:27:29] Because it's not
[00:27:30] it's not about the handjob
[00:27:31] it's about the relationship
[00:27:32] we had
[00:27:33] Oh it's about the handjob
[00:27:34] It is
[00:27:35] So yeah overall
[00:27:36] I mean
[00:27:37] two out of three is not bad
[00:27:38] So that's probably why
[00:27:39] Well at least the rubber denigin
[00:27:40] one is good
[00:27:41] Yeah and that's probably why
[00:27:42] 58% or something
[00:27:43] because two out of three were good
[00:27:45] and of course
[00:27:46] the worst one was the last one
[00:27:47] so it makes it
[00:27:49] watching it straight through
[00:27:50] kind of difficult
[00:27:51] Well or easy
[00:27:52] you can just turn it off
[00:27:53] once rubber denigin goes away
[00:27:54] Exactly
[00:27:56] Yeah I just wish
[00:27:58] the Rob Downing Jr.
[00:27:59] and Alan Arkin one was longer
[00:28:00] because they're both great actors
[00:28:01] For them to just
[00:28:02] basically have monologue
[00:28:03] after monologue is great
[00:28:05] That sounds good
[00:28:06] So yeah
[00:28:07] I mean check it out
[00:28:08] I mean of course
[00:28:09] I got it for $2.99
[00:28:10] I don't know if I'd spend
[00:28:11] more than that on it
[00:28:12] because I mean it's
[00:28:13] Yeah
[00:28:15] I also got
[00:28:18] I watched the Naked Gun
[00:28:20] again for the first time in years
[00:28:22] and that movie is freaking brilliant
[00:28:24] It's really funny
[00:28:25] I don't know if I've ever actually seen it
[00:28:27] Oh you really should
[00:28:29] I mean I'm not like
[00:28:30] I never thought airplane was really funny
[00:28:32] I know that's like sacrilege
[00:28:34] but all that Leslie Nielsen
[00:28:36] If I want a Leslie Nielsen movie
[00:28:38] I'll go watch Forbidden Planet
[00:28:41] I don't know
[00:28:42] That stuff just never really struck me
[00:28:44] It's for people to know
[00:28:46] he plays a bumbling cop
[00:28:48] in it and
[00:28:49] it's
[00:28:50] I mean it's really funny
[00:28:52] and I mean
[00:28:53] it's one of those zany comedies
[00:28:55] that's really well revered
[00:28:57] and the guy who plays Khan
[00:28:59] is the bad guy in it
[00:29:00] Ricardo Mondo on it
[00:29:02] Does he have a big plastic fake chest on?
[00:29:04] No he doesn't
[00:29:05] Oh that's good
[00:29:06] He plays a bad guy in Priscilla Pressley's in it
[00:29:09] as the love interest
[00:29:11] and there's
[00:29:13] so many things that are happening so fast
[00:29:15] in it
[00:29:16] It's definitely one of those movies you have to watch again
[00:29:17] and it's really easy to watch
[00:29:18] I think it's like 82 minutes
[00:29:19] So I mean it just goes by so fast
[00:29:22] and at the beginning is funny
[00:29:23] there's like all these terrorists
[00:29:25] in this room
[00:29:27] and they're talking about how they're gonna
[00:29:28] you know get rid of America
[00:29:30] and all the terrorists are
[00:29:31] you know parodies of real people
[00:29:33] I'm like oh he's dead
[00:29:34] he's dead
[00:29:35] he's dead
[00:29:36] he's dead
[00:29:37] No you don't feel bad for Gaddafi dude
[00:29:39] don't feel bad for him
[00:29:40] Yeah
[00:29:41] But my favorite line in the whole movie
[00:29:44] is there's a part where Frank Drebben
[00:29:46] who's played by Leslie Nielsen
[00:29:48] has kicked off the police force
[00:29:50] and
[00:29:52] he's all bummed down
[00:29:53] he's all pissed off
[00:29:54] and his captain comes up
[00:29:55] and says
[00:29:56] Frank, Frank what's wrong
[00:29:57] he says well I'll just tell you
[00:29:58] now I know the next time
[00:29:59] I shoot somebody
[00:30:00] I could get arrested for it
[00:30:01] and stuff like that's funny
[00:30:03] and he killed a bunch of
[00:30:04] Shakespeare in the park people
[00:30:07] and then kicked off the force
[00:30:09] yeah so you should see the naked gun
[00:30:10] it's really funny
[00:30:13] I also
[00:30:15] rewatched Predator
[00:30:16] I got that on Blu-ray
[00:30:19] and you know that was the first
[00:30:21] like guilty pleasure movie
[00:30:23] I remember watching when I was little
[00:30:24] Really?
[00:30:25] You would call it a guilty pleasure?
[00:30:26] I don't know
[00:30:28] I don't know how to describe my father
[00:30:30] I guess my first adult movie
[00:30:31] is a better movie than this one
[00:30:32] Oh okay yeah
[00:30:33] Like a movie that was rated R
[00:30:34] that you shouldn't be watching
[00:30:35] but you were watching anyway
[00:30:36] yeah my dad said
[00:30:37] you could watch this
[00:30:38] it's not like watching Flavor of Love
[00:30:39] where you're like
[00:30:40] this is trash and I watch it
[00:30:41] totally
[00:30:42] religiously yeah
[00:30:43] so yeah so it was kind of
[00:30:44] every time I watched it
[00:30:45] I loved that movie
[00:30:46] because my dad loved it
[00:30:47] and it was the first rated R movie
[00:30:49] I really remember watching
[00:30:50] yeah
[00:30:51] and that movie is pretty gory
[00:30:54] watching it again
[00:30:55] I mean I remember that stuff
[00:30:56] but obviously watching that one dude's head
[00:30:58] explode
[00:31:00] when the Predator shoots him
[00:31:01] yeah
[00:31:03] the movie's really good
[00:31:04] and it still holds up pretty well
[00:31:05] oh it does
[00:31:06] some of the Predator vision stuff
[00:31:08] I think is a little bit schlocky
[00:31:09] yeah
[00:31:10] now but
[00:31:12] yeah but you know
[00:31:13] I mean the whole premise of it
[00:31:15] I mean I think going in
[00:31:16] I remember being a kid and watching
[00:31:19] and you think it's a traditional
[00:31:20] like war movie
[00:31:22] and then it kind of takes that turn
[00:31:23] for there being hunted
[00:31:24] and
[00:31:25] you know a really cool
[00:31:26] monster by Stan Winston
[00:31:28] and yeah
[00:31:29] it's too bad
[00:31:30] it's too bad they've never
[00:31:31] really made a sequel to that movie
[00:31:32] that really lives up to the
[00:31:34] how awesome that character is
[00:31:36] yeah I think Predators is pretty close
[00:31:38] I think Predators is pretty cool
[00:31:39] you're right Predators is pretty cool
[00:31:41] you know it's got a little bit of a
[00:31:43] like a B movie action flick
[00:31:46] I think the only thing where Predator struggles
[00:31:48] where Predator is really good
[00:31:50] is the characters in Predator are really cool
[00:31:52] they all have such a defined
[00:31:54] character arc you know
[00:31:56] it's the Native American who can track anything
[00:31:58] and he's going to take on
[00:31:59] the Predator by himself
[00:32:01] and yeah I think the only thing
[00:32:05] watching it now the only thing
[00:32:06] Goofy is the girl in it
[00:32:08] where you know it seems like she's just there
[00:32:10] to be saved
[00:32:11] to be a girl yeah
[00:32:14] but yeah I mean it holds up really well
[00:32:16] but watching it again
[00:32:18] there's a couple scenes that are like
[00:32:19] out of focus
[00:32:21] and it's really I don't know if it just
[00:32:23] showed up because it's on blue right now
[00:32:24] yeah for up conversion
[00:32:26] but I still get a
[00:32:27] I could still get a kick
[00:32:29] the time when you know Schwarzenegger
[00:32:31] is in the water and he's crawling out
[00:32:33] in the mud and you see the Predator
[00:32:34] drop in and he pops up
[00:32:36] for the first time and he's looking for him
[00:32:38] and it's a
[00:32:40] I remember that sense of oh my god
[00:32:42] he can't see him because he's not giving
[00:32:43] off a heat pattern
[00:32:45] or something and it's just badass
[00:32:47] oh yeah and the whole last fight
[00:32:49] scene is awesome
[00:32:51] it's funny when I was a kid I always thought that like
[00:32:53] like around the time that alien versus Predator
[00:32:55] came out I was like all the Predators
[00:32:57] so the cooler creature like
[00:32:59] because you know I thought that the alien franchise
[00:33:01] it just sort of killed itself
[00:33:03] and then I grew up and rewatched the alien
[00:33:05] was like no
[00:33:07] see I think Predator is a cooler character
[00:33:09] I think his designs cooler
[00:33:11] he does cooler things
[00:33:13] well he's got more intelligence to him
[00:33:15] you know like he is more of an actual person
[00:33:17] whereas the alien is just
[00:33:19] a xenomorph is a killing machine
[00:33:21] like you know it's more like
[00:33:23] it's more like a dog
[00:33:25] well we agree to disagree I think Predator is cooler
[00:33:27] yeah I'm just saying
[00:33:29] cool cool that's why I watched this week
[00:33:31] I didn't see a lot
[00:33:33] because
[00:33:35] anytime we go to a con
[00:33:37] the next week I sort of turn into a hermit
[00:33:39] and as soon as I get home from work
[00:33:41] I just want to go to bed
[00:33:43] but I did I'm still watching lots and lots of Dick Van Dyke
[00:33:45] I think I'm almost done with the second season now
[00:33:47] I finally get to
[00:33:49] it may look like a walnut
[00:33:51] which is the episode where they
[00:33:53] because obviously they're
[00:33:55] because obviously that show was being made around the same time
[00:33:57] the Twilight Zone was
[00:33:59] crazy popular
[00:34:01] and this is episode where
[00:34:03] he and Laura
[00:34:05] are watching like a
[00:34:07] Twilight Zone show
[00:34:09] as they're going to bed and then he ends up having
[00:34:11] this dream where
[00:34:13] because she thinks she's going to
[00:34:15] have nightmares about it and then he ends up having nightmares where
[00:34:19] everybody is an alien that
[00:34:21] only eats walnuts and it's just really funny
[00:34:23] it's really well done
[00:34:25] that's one thing I love about that show
[00:34:27] is it obviously the first show that
[00:34:29] really took those kind of chances where
[00:34:31] they'd have dreams and the first season
[00:34:33] it was he had the dream where Laura was
[00:34:35] controlling him as a puppet
[00:34:37] I think it was the first season 2 where they had
[00:34:39] the one where he was like
[00:34:41] worried about being a man
[00:34:43] and he came home and was like I want
[00:34:45] my dinner
[00:34:47] and his son was working down
[00:34:49] they always had those kind of surreal episodes
[00:34:51] and maybe like a walnuts probably the best one of them
[00:34:55] I would say that the thing I've sort of figured out
[00:34:59] the thing that I maybe love the most
[00:35:01] I really like Sally
[00:35:03] and the reason is
[00:35:05] I think her story is probably
[00:35:07] really ahead of its time
[00:35:09] it's also of its time
[00:35:11] in that she's older
[00:35:13] and the idea that every woman
[00:35:15] should get married and have kids
[00:35:17] and have that family and that she's feeling all that pressure
[00:35:19] but the fact that they were telling a story like that
[00:35:23] of this woman
[00:35:25] who's not middle aged or anything like that
[00:35:27] but she's getting a little bit older and she's still not married
[00:35:29] I don't even want to call her desperate
[00:35:31] but it's something she worries about
[00:35:33] it's not the time when
[00:35:35] there's a man coming to the office
[00:35:37] and she gets excited because maybe he'll like her
[00:35:39] it's not that stuff as much as the episodes where
[00:35:41] like her birthday episode
[00:35:43] it just kills you
[00:35:45] you really feel like
[00:35:47] they're doing some serious drama
[00:35:49] talking about this issue that
[00:35:51] at the time I don't think a lot of people were talking about
[00:35:53] and even now you go back and watch her story
[00:35:55] and I think it's really special
[00:35:57] yeah
[00:35:59] and that's picking out
[00:36:01] one of the little pieces of drama in that show
[00:36:03] that they do really well
[00:36:05] everybody's got an arc like that
[00:36:07] but I think that's one of the things that has surprised me the most
[00:36:09] my favorite episodes
[00:36:11] actually of Dick Van Dyke
[00:36:13] are the ones where Rob's jealous
[00:36:15] because being hit on by certain people
[00:36:17] oh like when they're putting on the play
[00:36:19] yeah
[00:36:21] and they keep recasting the characters
[00:36:23] because everybody's significant
[00:36:25] other doesn't want them kissing somebody
[00:36:27] yeah, yeah, no, it's great
[00:36:29] yeah, and you know I love the
[00:36:31] Danny Thomas in that it may look like a moment's really good
[00:36:33] I have perfect
[00:36:35] 2020
[00:36:37] 2020 vision
[00:36:39] and
[00:36:41] and Dick Van Dyke
[00:36:43] being scared is great
[00:36:45] I don't know if you've gone to it
[00:36:47] it might be season 3, Ghost of a Chance
[00:36:49] is really really good
[00:36:51] I haven't seen that one, I have seen the one where there's the thief
[00:36:53] in the neighborhood
[00:36:55] and there's like
[00:36:57] 10 minutes of them just
[00:36:59] wandering around their house at night
[00:37:01] thinking somebody's in the house and then scaring each other
[00:37:03] like yeah
[00:37:05] oh that's the episode where they get a gun
[00:37:07] yeah, oh man
[00:37:09] it's great, it's really good
[00:37:11] it's one that because I'm watching it like as I fall asleep
[00:37:13] and so I miss bits of episodes and things like that
[00:37:15] I'm gonna re-watch this show
[00:37:17] a few times, I'm sure
[00:37:19] um
[00:37:21] is that a re-watchable
[00:37:23] uh, show
[00:37:25] yeah, yeah
[00:37:27] and of course I'm still watching all of my shows
[00:37:29] that are on right now, Hannibal is really good
[00:37:31] and Game of Thrones killed a bunch of people this week
[00:37:33] yeah that's what I heard
[00:37:35] I haven't read anything because I think I'll try to watch it
[00:37:37] but I'm sure he'll be spoiled for me eventually
[00:37:39] yeah, I picked a fight with a friend of mine on the internet
[00:37:41] I saw that, I didn't read your
[00:37:43] comment thread because I didn't want it to be spoiled for me
[00:37:45] but yeah
[00:37:47] well I was never talking about the specifics of it
[00:37:49] but
[00:37:51] in trying to defend it
[00:37:53] some people did
[00:37:55] yeah, I guess it happened, does it happen in the book
[00:37:57] George RR Martin was on Conan
[00:37:59] and he was watching people's reactions
[00:38:01] yeah, I saw that same clip
[00:38:03] um, which like
[00:38:05] I watched that because I wanted to see the funny clips of people like reacting to the show
[00:38:07] which were hilarious
[00:38:09] there are obviously people who
[00:38:11] they would read the books and knew that this thing was going to happen
[00:38:13] so they were filming their friends who had not read the books
[00:38:15] in order to get their reactions
[00:38:17] I think my favorite part of those reactions though
[00:38:19] were the couple of videos
[00:38:21] where there was somebody sitting on the couch
[00:38:23] and the thing would happen and they were just staring at it like
[00:38:25] okay
[00:38:27] because I was like, hey, that's me
[00:38:29] I'm in these videos, that's pretty cool
[00:38:31] but what was frustrating
[00:38:33] was that when Conan
[00:38:35] introduced it, he was like
[00:38:37] this is one of the most shocking things
[00:38:39] that I think most of the many of us have ever seen on television
[00:38:41] I'm like then you're not watching television
[00:38:43] this is what, what, it's not
[00:38:45] no
[00:38:47] man, just a hater
[00:38:49] no, it's not that, I am seeing
[00:38:51] gross shit I've never seen on television or in movies
[00:38:53] ever, in Hannibal every week
[00:38:55] there's, doesn't even compare
[00:38:57] does not even compare
[00:38:59] man, stuff is going to give me nightmares
[00:39:01] not the cool nightmares
[00:39:03] where, you know, ET
[00:39:05] chases you, the bad ones
[00:39:07] well we all can hope for that
[00:39:09] yeah
[00:39:11] anyway, that's me
[00:39:13] Brad?
[00:39:15] I didn't watch a lot
[00:39:17] I basically moved on from Kitchen Nightmares
[00:39:19] to Ramsey's
[00:39:21] best kitchen or best restaurants
[00:39:23] what is that one?
[00:39:25] it's refreshing
[00:39:27] it's where everyone is actually really good at being a restaurant
[00:39:29] oh
[00:39:31] the chefs are talented
[00:39:33] and they make good food every time
[00:39:35] wow
[00:39:37] it's actually rewarding good behavior
[00:39:39] rather than rewarding bad behavior
[00:39:41] exactly, that's what I like about it
[00:39:43] it's reality TV where people do good things
[00:39:47] they're talented and they get to show it off
[00:39:49] so
[00:39:51] yeah, that's about it, he goes to
[00:39:55] he uses the whole season to
[00:39:57] do a competition
[00:39:59] for the best Italian restaurant
[00:40:01] the best Chinese restaurant
[00:40:03] the best Mexican restaurant
[00:40:05] so two restaurants
[00:40:07] in those genres
[00:40:09] those food
[00:40:11] categories
[00:40:13] they'll square off
[00:40:15] first he'll go and sit down and eat
[00:40:17] and complete reverse of Kitchen Nightmares
[00:40:19] he always enjoys the food
[00:40:21] so far at those places
[00:40:23] and then
[00:40:25] he'll invite
[00:40:27] 30 of his
[00:40:29] personal diners
[00:40:31] to come and flood the restaurant
[00:40:33] to see how they handle a
[00:40:35] large dinner service
[00:40:37] really test their ability around the kitchen
[00:40:39] and then
[00:40:41] he'll kind of grade them on that
[00:40:43] and then
[00:40:45] he'll invite them later
[00:40:47] to come to his office
[00:40:49] and sit down and watch some
[00:40:51] a recording that they didn't know about
[00:40:53] where after he left after that dinner service
[00:40:55] a couple days later he sent in a secret diner
[00:40:59] to get a personal experience
[00:41:01] that they weren't expecting
[00:41:03] and then that's when their weakness will show
[00:41:05] someone didn't
[00:41:07] greet them
[00:41:09] consistently
[00:41:11] does he pay attention and try to figure out
[00:41:13] what their weakness is so he can make sure that
[00:41:15] that person tries to exploit it
[00:41:17] to see if they
[00:41:19] no, he tries to correct them
[00:41:21] when he sends in that secret diner
[00:41:23] and then he'll tell instructions like
[00:41:25] hey, ask for this thing
[00:41:27] because that's the thing they usually have a problem with
[00:41:29] it's at the discretion of the secret diner
[00:41:31] if the diner is having a really great experience
[00:41:33] they'll try to throw a curveball
[00:41:35] let's see if I return this
[00:41:37] three times
[00:41:39] let's see how they handle it
[00:41:41] usually they're really gracious
[00:41:43] and no one's been like
[00:41:45] you gotta pay for this
[00:41:47] or no we're not gonna get you a new
[00:41:49] all the ones I've seen
[00:41:51] they're pretty nice about it
[00:41:53] but yeah, they'll try to throw curveballs in there to test
[00:41:55] how far they like
[00:41:57] what they can get away with
[00:41:59] and then
[00:42:01] so
[00:42:03] something in their service will suffer
[00:42:05] like yeah, they didn't greet
[00:42:07] or the food is cold or something
[00:42:09] and then the next stage is
[00:42:13] he invites them to cook in his own
[00:42:15] personal restaurant in Ramsey's
[00:42:17] and then they'll cook
[00:42:19] the diners and then
[00:42:21] also the front of the house
[00:42:23] the serving staff will get to sit and eat
[00:42:25] as part of that group
[00:42:27] so they'll have to watch everything go down
[00:42:29] but they can't do anything about it
[00:42:31] and then by the end
[00:42:33] he decides
[00:42:35] which of the two restaurants did their best
[00:42:37] and
[00:42:39] yeah, it's refreshing to see everyone doing a good job
[00:42:41] when you watch that show
[00:42:43] you realize that he's pretty much a nice guy
[00:42:45] as long as the food's good
[00:42:47] and the service is good, he's pretty nice
[00:42:49] there's one really cool one
[00:42:51] I think
[00:42:53] the first episode
[00:42:55] is the two Italian restaurants square enough
[00:42:57] and the other Italian restaurant is these two brothers
[00:42:59] and their weakness was
[00:43:01] that the restaurant was really run by their parents
[00:43:03] and their parents would never give them
[00:43:05] the feedback from the actual customers
[00:43:09] and they were really experimental with their
[00:43:11] cuisine
[00:43:13] so they would cook fish
[00:43:15] and plastic bags
[00:43:17] so that
[00:43:19] it would be cooked but the texture would be raw
[00:43:21] and all the customers were really confused by it
[00:43:23] they would just think it was raw
[00:43:25] food, even though it's totally
[00:43:27] perfectly cooked
[00:43:31] they never knew about that
[00:43:33] because their parents were too protective
[00:43:35] of their creativity
[00:43:37] these really creative dishes
[00:43:39] I don't know what they combined
[00:43:41] but I think there was liquid nitrogen
[00:43:43] so you could put stuff
[00:43:45] in your mouth and then
[00:43:47] smoke would come out of your nose
[00:43:49] as you ate it
[00:43:51] that gastro
[00:43:53] whatever they call it
[00:43:55] gastro science
[00:43:57] gastro cuisine or something
[00:43:59] but they eventually won
[00:44:01] that round
[00:44:03] the best from each of those
[00:44:05] types of food
[00:44:07] I haven't gotten to the finals yet
[00:44:09] so I'm still working on it
[00:44:11] that's funny they don't do
[00:44:13] huge marathons of that on BBC America
[00:44:15] so I've never actually watched it
[00:44:17] I'd never heard it
[00:44:19] Netflix had put it right next to
[00:44:21] that means it has like 8 different shows
[00:44:23] it has a ton
[00:44:25] it's still another one where you globetrot
[00:44:27] Gordon Ramsay's Great Escapes
[00:44:29] I've seen bits of that
[00:44:31] because I've just been working on tons of stuff
[00:44:33] I'm not investing myself into narratives
[00:44:35] I'm just like here's these people
[00:44:37] in their lives
[00:44:39] they're just doing delicious food
[00:44:41] that I'll probably never get to eat
[00:44:43] that looks fantastic
[00:44:45] I think I might
[00:44:47] I'm going to Vegas for
[00:44:49] at the end of July and he's opening up a new restaurant
[00:44:51] out there
[00:44:53] I might have to check that out
[00:44:55] I'm going with my dad
[00:44:57] I don't know if he'll really want to sit down
[00:44:59] for you know
[00:45:01] I don't know how much it'll cost
[00:45:03] I would go if I got
[00:45:05] to see him actually prepare something
[00:45:07] some chef he selected to run that
[00:45:09] Vegas restaurant
[00:45:11] but the only draw for me
[00:45:13] was to like
[00:45:15] actually try food that he prepared himself
[00:45:17] so
[00:45:19] or if I was like
[00:45:21] trying to cook myself and he was just yelling at me
[00:45:23] that'd be fun too
[00:45:25] totally I want him to call me a donkey just once
[00:45:27] what are you doing
[00:45:29] you gotta kill somebody
[00:45:31] it's raw
[00:45:33] I ate this
[00:45:35] that's all I've watched
[00:45:37] cool

[00:49:00] and after bill time
[00:49:04] we also see more money stuff
[00:49:06] box office numbers
[00:49:10] this is the box office
[00:49:14] that was a good segue
[00:49:16] poor will smith
[00:49:18] now you see me did way better than people thought
[00:49:20] it did 27 million
[00:49:22] 28 million 27
[00:49:24] 29 29 million
[00:49:26] Fast and Furious 6
[00:49:28] 35 million
[00:49:30] I was reading projections
[00:49:32] and I was thinking that now you see me would do like 18 to 20
[00:49:34] huh
[00:49:36] so they obviously did a great job with marketing none of us really impressed
[00:49:38] with the movie but
[00:49:40] they must have really thought after earth was going to take everything
[00:49:42] yeah it's got the money behind it
[00:49:44] it should have
[00:49:46] but after earth didn't make as much money made less money than john carter
[00:49:48] so yeah
[00:49:50] am I the only one who thought the poster for after earth looked
[00:49:52] like
[00:49:54] like a dark version of kid in play
[00:49:56] look at
[00:49:58] look at
[00:50:00] the black
[00:50:02] old house party
[00:50:04] like the way the gradient at the top
[00:50:06] like hits their hair
[00:50:08] looks like they have the kid in play
[00:50:10] I know what you're saying
[00:50:12] but they just look depressed
[00:50:14] but you also said the dark version
[00:50:16] which
[00:50:18] yeah I was reading an article about
[00:50:20] studio analysis and people who
[00:50:22] actually track this stuff
[00:50:24] they said the problem is as will smith
[00:50:26] is all sad and depressed
[00:50:28] and morose in like the trailers
[00:50:30] and barely in it
[00:50:32] whatever he says in the trailer
[00:50:34] and that jaden smith is not
[00:50:36] good enough to carry a movie by himself yet
[00:50:38] yeah but which is the only thing that's unfortunate
[00:50:40] is their blaming
[00:50:42] shamanlon for it but he's really just
[00:50:44] a director for hire for this one so
[00:50:46] it's a bummer
[00:50:48] yeah I gotta see it
[00:50:50] I'll probably see it when it's at the Elvis
[00:50:52] cinema for two rollers
[00:50:54] I don't want to make any statements about what I think
[00:50:56] is wrong with that movie
[00:50:58] until I actually see it
[00:51:00] or why I think it failed
[00:51:02] that's just what movie people were saying
[00:51:04] you know track that stuff
[00:51:06] what do they know more than me
[00:51:10] box office mojo
[00:51:12] thanks for your wonderful website
[00:51:14] for easy to read
[00:51:16] movie grosses
[00:51:18] is it easy to read Ryan
[00:51:20] it is
[00:51:22] the next week
[00:51:24] we're gonna go on the line to find
[00:51:26] digital
[00:51:28] and what's coming out
[00:51:30] for us to purchase
[00:51:32] are you having a stroke
[00:51:34] on the line
[00:51:36] from the movie
[00:51:38] like your movie
[00:51:42] DVD release in blu-ray
[00:51:46] kind of a big week for movies
[00:51:48] I'm gonna buy everything this week
[00:51:50] the biggest movie
[00:51:52] it's gonna be very powerful
[00:51:54] comes out on blu-ray dvd
[00:51:56] and blu-ray 3D
[00:51:58] me and James are excited for Hansel and Gretel
[00:52:00] witch hunters
[00:52:02] I literally pre-ordered my copy as we were sitting here
[00:52:04] I'm really excited
[00:52:06] what did you tell me it's 15 bucks
[00:52:08] 15 dollars for the blu-ray
[00:52:10] there's an uncut version
[00:52:12] hopefully it comes with a theatrical version too
[00:52:14] I don't want them to fuck that movie up
[00:52:16] it's probably just more violent
[00:52:18] probably yeah it's probably some gore
[00:52:20] maybe Jeremy Renner is fucking that chicken
[00:52:22] upon a little longer
[00:52:24] oh yeah cause it's already rated R
[00:52:26] there's already nudity in it
[00:52:28] but you know it could be
[00:52:30] underworld unrated is way better than
[00:52:32] the theatrical cut
[00:52:34] because they give you like 20 minutes more of
[00:52:36] story that makes
[00:52:38] it more sense
[00:52:40] yeah it could be maybe that movie is one of those where the producer is really
[00:52:42] meddled with it and there's a lot of stuff missing
[00:52:44] I almost don't care cause I really liked it
[00:52:46] honestly I can't see that
[00:52:48] in that movie I'm guessing it's more gore
[00:52:50] yeah I would say so too
[00:52:52] and more fucking
[00:52:54] what else comes out James?
[00:52:56] the newsroom the first season of the newsroom finally comes out
[00:52:58] oh finally Olivia Munn's show I really want to watch
[00:53:00] oh come on actually she's not bad on it
[00:53:02] I'm not a huge Olivia Munn fan
[00:53:04] but she's not bad
[00:53:06] it's one of those things
[00:53:08] so it pisses me off that it takes so long
[00:53:10] they wait so long to put those DVDs and blu-rays out
[00:53:12] cause they want to use it as promotion for the new season
[00:53:14] but I'm like I could have been watching that show
[00:53:16] for the last 8 months
[00:53:18] you've had them sitting in a warehouse somewhere
[00:53:20] honestly I forgot that that show was renewed
[00:53:22] for a second season
[00:53:24] well and I think they're taking like 14
[00:53:26] months to put out another season of it
[00:53:28] cause it aired like in March
[00:53:30] last year March or April
[00:53:32] or started I should say
[00:53:34] there's also a DVD of House of Cards
[00:53:36] which is the Netflix show
[00:53:38] I thought they were never releasing those on DVDs
[00:53:40] yeah I didn't think so either
[00:53:42] clearly they're gonna let you actually have
[00:53:44] a copy of it and you could own a copy of it
[00:53:46] which I mean cause it's a show
[00:53:48] it's like $34 for the DVD
[00:53:50] so
[00:53:52] it probably makes dollars sense
[00:53:54] for Netflix to do that cause
[00:53:56] people who are actually a big fan of it
[00:53:58] and want that on their shelf
[00:54:00] they'll pick it up and they'll make plenty of money on it
[00:54:02] or $8 a month for life
[00:54:04] yeah you're right
[00:54:06] but that movie is already there
[00:54:08] the people who watch
[00:54:10] that show on Netflix are already subscribers
[00:54:12] and probably are already gonna keep their subscription
[00:54:14] whereas the people who
[00:54:16] are Netflix subscribers and really big fans
[00:54:18] of House of Cards and want the
[00:54:20] DVD on their shelf
[00:54:22] it's an easy $35
[00:54:24] maybe there's special features
[00:54:26] and stuff people really want
[00:54:28] that's true yeah cause there's no special features on Netflix
[00:54:30] they gotta find a way to fix that
[00:54:32] especially for their stuff
[00:54:34] Dwayne The Rock Johnson's first film in 2013
[00:54:36] Snitch
[00:54:38] comes out this week
[00:54:40] I thought it was a pretty good movie
[00:54:42] yeah it's fun it's decent
[00:54:44] Wrong
[00:54:46] the Blu-ray of wrong which is that movie
[00:54:48] I really wanted to see that but
[00:54:50] Brassie the only one who saw it in theaters
[00:54:52] the poster's really cool
[00:54:54] cause it's got like
[00:54:56] you can see into the guy's brain
[00:54:58] and the brain kinda looks like a dog
[00:55:00] it's good I'm gonna get it
[00:55:02] I'll probably get it too
[00:55:06] there's also a documentary from last year called
[00:55:08] How to Survive a Plague which is about 8
[00:55:10] but people said it was really good
[00:55:12] there's not a lot of lists of movies
[00:55:14] that you missed from 2012
[00:55:16] that you should be really sorry about
[00:55:18] as well as a little indie western movie
[00:55:20] called Dead Man's Burden
[00:55:22] that I've seen trailers for for the last year or so
[00:55:24] and it looks really cool but I'm gonna have to check it out
[00:55:26] that was sweet
[00:55:28] yeah big week
[00:55:30] you left out Emperor's New Groove on Blu-ray
[00:55:32] well I didn't want to waste a lot of time
[00:55:34] but yeah no there's a Blu-ray release
[00:55:36] of Emperor's New Groove and Cronk's New Groove
[00:55:38] which I think is one of the
[00:55:40] better later Disney movies
[00:55:42] I think it's one of the best better later Disney movies
[00:55:44] does Lila and Stitch also come out
[00:55:46] yeah
[00:55:48] yeah no Emperor's New Groove is great
[00:55:50] there's like Coyotes howling
[00:55:52] outside my house
[00:55:54] and my dogs are not
[00:55:56] they're freaking your dogs out
[00:55:58] they've been out there for hours
[00:56:00] they're probably eating some little
[00:56:02] a la sa opso with only one eye
[00:56:04] aww Rich
[00:56:06] sweet thanks digital bits
[00:56:10] yeah
[00:56:12] if you could think
[00:56:14] by clicking on the box art which will take you to Amazon
[00:56:16] and by buying it you support
[00:56:18] the digital bits
[00:56:22] cool unspooled real news James
[00:56:26] it's real news
[00:56:32] so there's a couple things that we actually missed from last week
[00:56:34] but it's not
[00:56:36] it's not a lot of stuff
[00:56:38] the guys who created
[00:56:40] or directed Kanteke
[00:56:42] are getting signed on to direct Pirates 5
[00:56:44] which I think is
[00:56:46] really exciting hopefully Jack Sparrow fights
[00:56:48] some like fucking monsters at sea that'd be awesome
[00:56:50] no how about
[00:56:52] I would rather just Jack Sparrow fights
[00:56:54] the most realistic shark anyone's ever seen
[00:56:56] like that's all I want
[00:56:58] that's the thing that impresses me the most
[00:57:00] but I still haven't seen it but the trailer
[00:57:02] just looks
[00:57:04] phenomenal
[00:57:06] I want another
[00:57:08] Pirates movie that actually spent some time on the sea
[00:57:10] and it looks you feel like oh yeah
[00:57:12] these guys are pirates again
[00:57:14] it's not so much just like
[00:57:16] like slap sticky chases through
[00:57:18] European streets
[00:57:20] honestly I have an itch to see on Stranger's
[00:57:22] Tide again because
[00:57:24] I didn't like it
[00:57:26] I mean it was okay when I saw it
[00:57:28] and I feel like I should watch it again
[00:57:30] cause I like the pirate movies
[00:57:32] but I don't know
[00:57:34] that franchise has gone so off the rails
[00:57:36] from how good the first movie is
[00:57:38] I mean the first movie is phenomenal
[00:57:40] especially as like
[00:57:42] just a summer blockbuster movie
[00:57:44] so much fun
[00:57:46] really good story in there
[00:57:48] it's cohesive
[00:57:50] and they have completely lost that in the series
[00:57:52] and so I'm hoping that
[00:57:54] get some little indie directors in there
[00:57:56] who kinda want to show off
[00:57:58] and have a bigger budget and stuff like that
[00:58:00] and try to do stuff at sea
[00:58:02] and try to keep their budgets low
[00:58:04] cause you already know they can film on sea with a no budget
[00:58:06] imagine them filming on sea with a big budget
[00:58:08] I say
[00:58:10] just stop using
[00:58:12] Jack Sparrow as your crutch
[00:58:14] oh yeah, that's a big part of it
[00:58:16] cause as soon as Jack Sparrow becomes
[00:58:18] the center of
[00:58:20] of the story
[00:58:22] it just sort of falls apart
[00:58:24] we've done four with him
[00:58:26] tell a different story
[00:58:28] about the pirates out there
[00:58:30] as much fun as he is in the first three
[00:58:32] The Heart and Soul is really
[00:58:34] with Elizabeth
[00:58:36] and what's his face
[00:58:38] like that's really
[00:58:40] yeah, it will
[00:58:42] they're really like your emotional core
[00:58:44] and then you've got this wacky
[00:58:46] comedic character dancing around them
[00:58:48] as soon as they're gone
[00:58:50] one of the biggest parts about Stranger Tides
[00:58:52] agreed
[00:58:54] cause then you have to work in
[00:58:56] and the guy falls in love with the mermaids
[00:58:58] and bullshitt
[00:58:59] I don't care, come on
[00:59:01] move on
[00:59:02] NBC renewed Hannibal
[00:59:04] which made me happy
[00:59:06] also I didn't believe it was going to happen
[00:59:08] but
[00:59:10] that's good
[00:59:12] I think the show is buzzy enough
[00:59:14] that they were stupid if they would have let it go
[00:59:16] oh yeah, yeah, they've got people talking
[00:59:18] even if not everybody is saying good things
[00:59:20] even if a lot of people are
[00:59:22] writing and going like this is horrible
[00:59:24] killing my children
[00:59:26] I don't know why people are letting their children
[00:59:28] watch that show but still
[00:59:32] it's good, anything that
[00:59:34] gets in there and actually stirs up
[00:59:36] network television gets them to pay attention
[00:59:38] again, I agree
[00:59:40] speaking of stirring up network television
[00:59:42] Dan Harmon is coming back to community
[00:59:44] for what is probably going to be
[00:59:46] the last season but they have seen
[00:59:48] sort of the ratings drop
[00:59:50] and a lot of the critics at least
[00:59:52] become middling if not
[00:59:54] soured towards that show
[00:59:56] and so they
[00:59:58] re-approached Dan Harmon and said
[01:00:00] sorry we fucked up
[01:00:02] I'm sorry we fired you, do you want to come back and run this show
[01:00:04] and he said yes
[01:00:06] I don't think they've got everybody contracted in
[01:00:08] he's sort of on Twitter said something like
[01:00:10] well I really hope that Joel McHale and Alison Brie
[01:00:12] and Jim Rache
[01:00:14] and all the other people are involved too
[01:00:16] but I'm definitely going to be there
[01:00:18] it's going to be really interesting to see
[01:00:20] obviously Jerry Chase won't be back
[01:00:22] yep he burned that bridge
[01:00:24] yeah in the last few episodes
[01:00:26] it was really weird they didn't really address it
[01:00:28] like he just was gone
[01:00:30] yep
[01:00:32] yeah that was just bizarre
[01:00:34] but I'm excited I just want him to
[01:00:36] have a show back yeah it'll be fun
[01:00:38] yeah
[01:00:40] anyway that's the news
[01:00:42] sweet
[01:00:44] yep nothing exciting
[01:00:46] not really
[01:00:48] we stop
[01:00:50] nerds it's the comics quarter
[01:00:52] I
[01:00:54] need to talk some more about Joe Kelly
[01:00:56] but
[01:00:58] he's got this really good book that nobody ever talks about
[01:01:00] called Four Eyes
[01:01:02] and it's about a boy and his
[01:01:04] dragon and basically takes place in this world where
[01:01:06] there's all this underground
[01:01:08] dragon fighting
[01:01:10] it's like dog fighting but with dragons
[01:01:12] and sort of
[01:01:14] his dad is dead and he's going to try to get revenge
[01:01:16] so it's a story about him
[01:01:18] training up his dragon
[01:01:20] which it has four eyes and it's the title of the book
[01:01:22] like dragons just
[01:01:24] anyway
[01:01:26] and it's about him training up this dragon
[01:01:28] and trying to get into this underground
[01:01:30] so that he can find out
[01:01:32] what kind of stuff his dad was into
[01:01:34] and why what happened to happened
[01:01:36] it has a really fun interesting
[01:01:38] story the art is just beautiful
[01:01:40] and it's one of those little seeper
[01:01:42] books that nobody really talks about
[01:01:44] especially Joe Kelly
[01:01:46] he didn't say anything about it I don't think the whole
[01:01:48] interview but it is
[01:01:50] really good so you should check it out
[01:01:52] and you can pick it up because it's in
[01:01:54] trades now you can pick it up 20%
[01:01:56] off Colorado coins, cards and comics
[01:01:58] anything with dragons fighting is awesome
[01:02:00] we've mentioned that in Rain of Fire right
[01:02:02] oh yeah I saw this list
[01:02:04] this week it was all like the most creative
[01:02:06] ways that people have destroyed the earth
[01:02:08] Rain of Fire number one it just said
[01:02:10] motherfucking dragons
[01:02:12] it's true
[01:02:14] it's cool
[01:02:16] I like dragons yeah who doesn't
[01:02:18] tell you what you don't like dragons stop listening
[01:02:20] this fucking show just kidding
[01:02:22] everybody hasn't told their own opinion
[01:02:24] except for the people who don't like dragons
[01:02:26] right? everyone has a title
[01:02:28] with their own opinion especially when it comes
[01:02:30] to what movie we've been watching this week
[01:02:32] we once saw the internship
[01:02:34] Brad should people go see the
[01:02:36] internship
[01:02:38] you know what I thought it was a lot of fun
[01:02:40] I was entertained
[01:02:42] I don't as far as the theater goes
[01:02:44] if you went to the theater
[01:02:46] watch it it wouldn't be the worst experience
[01:02:48] it's also
[01:02:50] a movie you could easily watch at home too
[01:02:52] so
[01:02:54] James?
[01:02:56] yeah I think this
[01:02:58] movie it reminds me a lot of Wanderlust
[01:03:00] last year
[01:03:02] where it's a really good
[01:03:04] fairly simple
[01:03:06] movie like you know it's really
[01:03:08] entertaining and fun
[01:03:10] but it's one of those that I think a lot of people are
[01:03:12] gonna forget or dismiss
[01:03:14] that being said I loved
[01:03:16] this movie
[01:03:18] by the time it was done I was really into it
[01:03:20] and I don't know I think I was a little bit
[01:03:22] sensitive
[01:03:24] at the time we watched it
[01:03:26] I don't know why but by the end I was like
[01:03:28] I really liked those characters
[01:03:30] I really liked the story they were telling
[01:03:32] and yeah it was simple
[01:03:34] you've seen the story before
[01:03:36] it was a very derivative
[01:03:38] anyone could write the plot
[01:03:40] itself
[01:03:42] but the way those characters are written and acted
[01:03:44] and all that stuff I think
[01:03:46] it got to me
[01:03:48] by the end I was like oh I like these guys
[01:03:50] yeah I mean it was a fun movie
[01:03:52] I'm with Brad I had a lot of fun watching it
[01:03:54] do you have to go out and see the theaters?
[01:03:56] probably not but I mean it's still fun
[01:03:58] if you want to have just a fun time in the theaters
[01:04:00] I think you should go see it because it's not
[01:04:02] groundbreaking
[01:04:04] you know Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are so good together
[01:04:06] that
[01:04:08] you kind of root for them
[01:04:10] and they're really not playing outside
[01:04:12] a type at all
[01:04:14] Vince Vaughn is a fast talking salesman
[01:04:16] and Owen Wilson is the
[01:04:18] G Shucks guy who everybody likes
[01:04:20] so yeah here's the trailer for
[01:04:22] oh do you want to say something else before the trailer starts
[01:04:24] sorry I just want to say it's another PG-13 comedy
[01:04:26] this year too
[01:04:28] it's another comedy you can take your folks to
[01:04:30] there's a few dirty jokes in there
[01:04:32] nothing real bad so yeah
[01:04:34] trailer
[01:05:04] welcome to Google
[01:05:06] you know what launch this was from
[01:05:08] I thought it was some web page you could go to
[01:05:10] type things in and such Francis
[01:05:12] your interns
[01:05:14] you're so old though
[01:05:16] we're looking at some sort of
[01:05:18] mental hunger games against a bunch of genius kids
[01:05:20] for just like a handful of jobs
[01:05:22] you will be broken up into teams
[01:05:24] find some geniuses
[01:05:26] hello scamford
[01:05:28] you college, university, no, on me
[01:05:30] you're coming with me, you're all I got
[01:05:32] you're a group, you're meant to the leftovers
[01:05:34] come on one of the team managers
[01:05:36] count me
[01:05:38] come on bro fist me
[01:05:40] we'll talk fist each other right
[01:05:42] I may have a south
[01:05:44] Stuart, Yo Yo Santos
[01:05:46] how about a high five
[01:05:48] did you get beat up a lot in school
[01:05:50] I was homeschooled by my mom
[01:05:52] did you get beat up a lot in homeschool
[01:05:54] your first challenge, man name the health line
[01:05:56] I'm not very good with gmail support
[01:05:58] for you is this kind of like teaching a kid the alphabet
[01:06:00] teaching a kid a letter
[01:06:02] just one letter
[01:06:04] you will fail
[01:06:06] sometimes the long shots pay off the biggest
[01:06:08] my team's a joke
[01:06:10] this reminds me of a little girl from a steel town
[01:06:12] who had the dream to dance
[01:06:14] she reached up and pulled the chain to nowhere and doused herself with water
[01:06:16] flash dance, we're talking about the movie from the 80s
[01:06:18] yeah you're damn right I am
[01:06:20] oh boy
[01:06:22] there's still some dreams floating around out there
[01:06:24] it's not too late, just gotta reach out and grab
[01:06:26] we have rules
[01:06:28] we have rules
[01:06:31] red means no, green means yes
[01:06:33] dating a fellow intern
[01:06:35] you can't date an intern
[01:06:37] so we'll say no to love
[01:06:39] yes, is the one night stand considered dating
[01:06:41] why don't the two of you guys go and find the programmer
[01:06:43] his name is Charles Xavier
[01:06:45] he's a professor
[01:06:47] he's in a wheelchair
[01:06:49] Charles Xavier, you found me out
[01:06:51] Cyclops, Rogue, we're all here
[01:06:53] now come closer
[01:06:55] oh my god
[01:06:57] this is dangerous and total
[01:06:59] yeah
[01:07:01] you know what it's like a really long info Marshall for google
[01:07:05] going into it, the trailer
[01:07:07] just felt like it's really douchey
[01:07:09] oh yeah
[01:07:11] like I was gonna expect it to play to every
[01:07:13] cliche for that kind of movie
[01:07:15] and the story arc is
[01:07:17] one that
[01:07:19] these kinds of movies have done
[01:07:21] time and time again
[01:07:23] but it's just in the characters and how they act
[01:07:25] and portray everything that
[01:07:27] sets it apart
[01:07:29] yeah like they don't make caricatures out of
[01:07:31] well I mean they make caricatures
[01:07:33] out of the villain and things like that
[01:07:35] but they don't make caricatures out of the
[01:07:37] because you even got an accent
[01:07:39] to make him more evil
[01:07:41] your accent's fake
[01:07:43] yeah that moment was great
[01:07:45] but out of like the other
[01:07:47] nerds in their group
[01:07:49] they don't make caricatures so much out of them
[01:07:51] they in fact even have
[01:07:53] some kind of nice little
[01:07:55] deep moments where those
[01:07:57] people open up a little bit
[01:07:59] like oh okay this is cool
[01:08:01] you're actually making these people into people
[01:08:03] yeah as I was watching it remind me a lot of the sitter
[01:08:05] because it's a movie
[01:08:07] that's really funny but has kind of
[01:08:09] heart to it where
[01:08:11] in this movie they had
[01:08:13] all those conversations with the people that
[01:08:15] the one guy who hated everything
[01:08:17] and I actually
[01:08:19] really liked that scene where Owen Wilson's like
[01:08:21] you can look up and like things
[01:08:23] you don't have to hate stuff it doesn't hurt your credibility
[01:08:25] and
[01:08:27] it was fun
[01:08:29] there's little throwaway lines like me and James
[01:08:31] laugh when they said
[01:08:33] bangerang
[01:08:35] they were playing quidditch
[01:08:37] that quidditch match was hilarious
[01:08:39] it was great
[01:08:41] the little gold thing comes out
[01:08:43] what the fuck
[01:08:45] the one F bomb for the PG-13
[01:08:47] oh that's right
[01:08:49] and there's also part 2 where
[01:08:51] they're describing
[01:08:53] each one of the team
[01:08:55] for the interns
[01:08:57] and I forget who he was saying it's like the pretty one
[01:08:59] and it goes to Owen Wilson and he shakes his head
[01:09:01] oh thanks
[01:09:03] and
[01:09:05] you know Will Ferrell, I did a Will Ferrell
[01:09:07] in this movie, they had
[01:09:09] a little cameo but as soon as he was in the match
[01:09:11] store and I saw him I knew it was Will Ferrell
[01:09:13] I heard his voice before they showed him
[01:09:15] and I was like oh man here we go
[01:09:17] what was it saying
[01:09:19] what was the tattoo
[01:09:21] what was it saying
[01:09:23] make some choices
[01:09:25] but it was more
[01:09:27] pointless than that
[01:09:29] because it wasn't just make the right choices
[01:09:31] it was like make
[01:09:33] some other adjective choices
[01:09:35] it just made it less important
[01:09:37] yeah, where it's like
[01:09:39] make right decisions
[01:09:41] and it was like a decision to have
[01:09:43] and Owen Wilson says that sounds like really bad
[01:09:45] like a black tattoo
[01:09:47] and you know what's funny about Will Ferrell
[01:09:49] is he always kind of plays that guy
[01:09:51] where he's kind of like the dick
[01:09:53] and I don't know, I always laugh at it
[01:09:55] I think they did a good job
[01:09:57] as far as like
[01:09:59] I honestly was not sure how these guys
[01:10:01] were going to fit in
[01:10:03] or succeed
[01:10:05] when they were first starting the internship
[01:10:07] I thought
[01:10:09] they're way out of their league
[01:10:11] yeah, they were so out of their league that I just wasn't sure
[01:10:13] how are they actually going to prove themselves
[01:10:15] or is it going to fail on that
[01:10:17] issue like is this movie
[01:10:19] going to rely so much on some kind of McGuffin
[01:10:21] where they sort of fall
[01:10:23] into success that it just
[01:10:25] falls apart but then
[01:10:27] it's that quidditch match when they first
[01:10:29] because they
[01:10:31] that's right after they all get sent
[01:10:33] they get sent to find
[01:10:35] Professor Xavier and we first
[01:10:37] start saying like oh this group is falling apart
[01:10:39] you know and so then it's that quidditch match
[01:10:41] it's the first time where they get brought together
[01:10:43] and they have to learn how to work together
[01:10:45] and you realize like that's the key
[01:10:47] these guys are the ones that
[01:10:49] can really get these kids to
[01:10:51] work together and become an actual team
[01:10:53] and that was when I was like oh okay, I'm into this
[01:10:55] and I really like the kid who played Lyle
[01:10:57] he had like these really funny lines
[01:10:59] into it when he was talking
[01:11:01] to
[01:11:03] I don't know if it was Vince Vaughn or Owen Wilson about the
[01:11:05] dancer and he says
[01:11:07] yeah she's a part of the Lyle High Club
[01:11:09] yeah I was gonna see if she wants to join the Lyle High Club
[01:11:11] yeah it's just
[01:11:13] goofy throwaway lines like that
[01:11:15] I really appreciate that stuff in movies where
[01:11:17] you don't always pick it up
[01:11:19] yeah I mean it was fun
[01:11:21] and
[01:11:23] I even liked
[01:11:25] spoilers that
[01:11:27] the big boss guy
[01:11:29] the Indian guy
[01:11:31] Asif Monvi he like
[01:11:33] had this big doubt about him you found out he was a guy who like okayed them to come there
[01:11:35] yeah that's a nice little
[01:11:37] yeah it was a good little twist
[01:11:39] yeah
[01:11:41] and I think the app that they
[01:11:43] developed sounds like a cool idea for an app
[01:11:45] I mean I don't drink or anything but
[01:11:47] half an answer a tough question
[01:11:49] when you're drunk before you can make a
[01:11:51] a dial is
[01:11:53] can you still operate the app while you're that drunk
[01:11:55] I think that's the point of it
[01:11:57] it seems like it would be something where like your friend
[01:11:59] would take your phone and turn the app on
[01:12:01] and then you know
[01:12:03] not let anybody else play
[01:12:05] with your phone until you were able to answer those questions
[01:12:07] and what did that the Asian guy
[01:12:09] say at the end he says
[01:12:11] do you see I actually grew some balls there
[01:12:13] touching my ankle
[01:12:15] oh he was great
[01:12:17] oh man that whole sequence
[01:12:19] in the dance club
[01:12:21] where he gets drunk
[01:12:23] and is like dancing in that like weird foggy
[01:12:25] glass cage just one shot what's the worst that can happen
[01:12:27] yeah
[01:12:29] and then he basically turns into the Hulk
[01:12:31] oh man
[01:12:33] he tells off his mom
[01:12:35] yeah his dad's like yeah
[01:12:37] he pulls his eyebrow
[01:12:39] his eyebrows completely gone
[01:12:41] and Owen Wilson's showing
[01:12:43] the next scene Owen Wilson's drawing an eyebrow on
[01:12:45] doesn't even address it like the line
[01:12:47] he has is something about something else
[01:12:49] and he's just there drawing the kids eyebrow
[01:12:51] like okay well no reason
[01:12:53] just doing it
[01:12:55] so that was a fun little movie
[01:12:57] it was better than I thought it would be
[01:12:59] because you know I
[01:13:01] was like man I kind of want to see the purge more
[01:13:03] but you know I'll go see this
[01:13:05] internship it's always fun to find
[01:13:07] movies to laugh at well I didn't know you wanted to see the purge
[01:13:09] I mean yeah sure that would actually ask
[01:13:11] the question I just assumed
[01:13:13] that's what we were saying no that's fine
[01:13:15] I mean I can see the purge at any time
[01:13:17] you know cool
[01:13:19] mm-hmm I ever because I didn't
[01:13:21] I love the comedy ones because it's hard
[01:13:23] to you know critique the comedy ones
[01:13:25] just like yeah it's funny yeah the guys had great
[01:13:27] chemistry together
[01:13:29] I will say this too though
[01:13:31] the you know the jokes in the trailer
[01:13:33] worked better in the movie because they're a little bigger setup
[01:13:35] and they went on a little longer some of them
[01:13:37] yeah some some fell flat just because I knew
[01:13:39] them so well because I've seen that trailer so many times
[01:13:41] that I'm like you know
[01:13:43] but you know the scene where they're paying off the kids
[01:13:45] so they could be use the library
[01:13:47] oh yeah
[01:13:49] oh yeah the whole interview over the computer I think is
[01:13:51] funnier than the movie
[01:13:53] because it's just cut a little bit differently
[01:13:55] what were they doing
[01:13:57] what
[01:13:59] you turned us into the size of a nickel
[01:14:01] now we're escaping we're saving lives
[01:14:03] what
[01:14:05] oh well we're the size of a nickel right
[01:14:07] so we'll just lay down and let the breeze hit us
[01:14:09] from the blades
[01:14:11] and here's the thing
[01:14:13] they're doing that whole thing and I'm confused
[01:14:15] because I'm like what's supposed to be
[01:14:17] the right answer like yeah what are you
[01:14:19] supposed to say there I don't think they ever addressed it
[01:14:21] no they did at some point there's a
[01:14:23] there's a throwaway line where they're like
[01:14:25] they're the only morons who don't know that if you were
[01:14:27] shrunk down to the size of a nickel that your
[01:14:29] strength to weight ratio would allow you
[01:14:31] to jump out of the bit the the
[01:14:33] the blender on your own
[01:14:35] that's the correct answer
[01:14:37] the correct answer is that if you're
[01:14:39] shrunk down you're like an ant and you can jump
[01:14:41] three feet high
[01:14:43] which is silly what is this John Carter
[01:14:45] on Mars
[01:14:47] totally
[01:14:49] it's a good movie yeah it's fun
[01:14:51] next week we're seeing The Man of Steel
[01:14:53] which I'm really excited to see
[01:14:55] I've never been excited for Superman
[01:14:57] movie ever me either and this
[01:14:59] every time I see something about this movie I want to see it
[01:15:01] more yeah each year that comes out
[01:15:03] doesn't diminish my
[01:15:05] anticipation for it just makes it stronger
[01:15:07] so that should be fun it's also
[01:15:09] going to be the start of our official second
[01:15:11] year of a podcast third year third
[01:15:13] year sorry third year this is our
[01:15:15] second year third year
[01:15:17] be at times yeah we're
[01:15:19] wrapping up our
[01:15:21] our second year today so real quick
[01:15:23] what do you want to see
[01:15:25] come out of the third year
[01:15:31] man what do we need to
[01:15:33] improve on what do we need to change
[01:15:35] I think I want to see
[01:15:37] you know an idea for a live show start
[01:15:39] to take shape yeah hopefully they'll
[01:15:41] start happening
[01:15:43] continue to grow the podcast
[01:15:45] and you know find new fans
[01:15:47] that's my goal all the time yeah
[01:15:49] I got to look into figuring out
[01:15:51] I would like to find a way where
[01:15:53] every week when we
[01:15:55] when we all get together
[01:15:57] and go see a movie where we're
[01:15:59] at least taking a picture or tweeting about it
[01:16:01] and getting a little more
[01:16:03] active on that stuff because I think
[01:16:05] Ryan and I have realized
[01:16:07] like oh the truth is we have way more followers
[01:16:09] on Twitter why are we spending so much time on Facebook
[01:16:13] which is probably smart
[01:16:15] not necessarily because
[01:16:17] I have a lot to say and stuff like that but
[01:16:19] because it gets people to react and I want more
[01:16:21] I want more
[01:16:23] listener input into stuff
[01:16:25] you know because that's
[01:16:27] you know that's what I want
[01:16:29] I want more people sending in questions like
[01:16:31] hey what do you think about this movie from 1994
[01:16:33] or how do you feel about
[01:16:35] this thing in movies
[01:16:37] do you like when
[01:16:39] characters get killed for no reason
[01:16:41] yes
[01:16:43] fuck you
[01:16:45] brad
[01:16:47] I think
[01:16:51] I want to start a game
[01:16:53] portion of the show because people seem to
[01:16:55] oh yeah
[01:16:57] even though I thought it was terrible but
[01:16:59] the people we talked to at Comic-Con said they enjoyed
[01:17:01] the game we played
[01:17:03] on the 100th episode
[01:17:05] or the skits anytime when we do more like
[01:17:07] you know yeah or skits
[01:17:09] but that's really the pod show
[01:17:11] well that's true
[01:17:13] but like when we read that little bit of a script
[01:17:15] yeah that was fun having
[01:17:17] guests in there doing that sort of thing
[01:17:19] yeah yeah yeah
[01:17:21] especially on get that's what we could do we could have it
[01:17:23] so that there's always a game that we play so when there's a guest
[01:17:25] there's some little trivia thing
[01:17:27] yeah
[01:17:29] because even like when we were on the Rhino thing
[01:17:31] is kind of cool having the five questions
[01:17:33] yeah the like
[01:17:35] fast five
[01:17:37] but yeah it'd be fun because then it's also
[01:17:39] it also gets like the listeners
[01:17:41] like subconsciously kind of playing along too
[01:17:43] oh yeah that's an old good device
[01:17:45] I believe fast five
[01:17:47] figure something out
[01:17:49] it's just got to be the right thing
[01:17:51] I don't want to steal anybody else's thing
[01:17:53] I don't want to just start doing
[01:17:55] a thing religiously that we're not totally into
[01:17:57] but I do agree with you
[01:17:59] we'll pick a
[01:18:01] over the course of time we'll create our own game
[01:18:03] but to get the ball rolling maybe we'll just
[01:18:05] do some tried and true stuff
[01:18:07] yeah
[01:18:09] then also I think last year I said
[01:18:11] we're hoping for a female
[01:18:13] voice on the show and like your wife's done a good job
[01:18:15] stepping up
[01:18:17] and Cora it would be nice to have her on all the time
[01:18:19] but she's you know Durango so
[01:18:21] yeah
[01:18:23] that's still an option out there
[01:18:25] so you want a fourth member
[01:18:27] yeah
[01:18:30] not like a consistent fourth member but just more like a female
[01:18:32] perspective on the show you know
[01:18:34] it's a big sausage fest
[01:18:36] well that's why we sit so far apart on the couch
[01:18:38] the sausage fest is why we sit so far apart on the couch
[01:18:40] yeah I know
[01:18:42] so are huge dicks don't touch
[01:18:44] and that's a good place to end the show
[01:18:46] no I'm just kidding
[01:18:48] cool
[01:18:50] no no I hear you I agree
